Really interesting read if you’re familiar with Michigan’s AuSable River. Miller did a great job of capturing odd fishing tales and stories dating from 1850’s to 1950’s. He also talks about the glory days of fishing for grayling, a fish that has since disappeared from the river. He documents the efforts to rejuvenate the river and explains, through witness accounts, why the fish disappeared.
Although this book was published in 1963, it gives a timeless view of this special area of the world. The book jacket claims that, "The reader will be fascinated by the material this book contains, and will long remember it. It would not be surprising at all if he [or she I would add] should decide to visit the beautiful Au Sable and its historic regions." I certainly agree with those words.
