Rivals, fakers, and doppelgängers have been scourges to Sonic for years, but Dr. Starline’s newest creations pose an entirely new threat.
New challengers Surge and Kit were designed for a single to replace Sonic and Tails as the world’s greatest heroes! And that means it’s not just the Blue Blur and his friends who should be wary—Dr. Eggman better watch out too!
But has Dr. Starline gone too far this time? Will his master plan succeed, or will these imposters prove impossible to control? One thing’s for Surge and Kit mean to make a splash, and Sonic’s world will never be the same!
Doctor Starline's latest plot to defeat Sonic and prove himself better than Eggman involves two new characters, Surge & Kit, who are basically the Anti-Sonic & Tails. But before he can unveil his new creations, he needs to make sure they know their place!
For a four issue mini-series, this one goes around in circles a few times. I suppose that's kind of the point, given the premise of the series (Starline testing Kit & Surge and erasing their memories each time), but after the second issue it does grate a little.
The saving grace is that Surge & Kit are actually pretty solid characters. Surge is angry, yes, but she's not just yelling and screaming at everyone without a brain to back it up, and Kit's hero worship to the point of servitude is so upsetting I'm surprised Sega okay'd it. Oh, and Starline's still an arrogant ass, I do love watching him set himself up to be knocked down.
The art's Sonic art - I don't really comment on the main series art, and this mini-series is more of the same. It does the job, and it looks like Sonic stuff.
Imposter Syndrome might spin its wheels despite the short running time, but the strength of its characters keeps it from running entirely in place.
So we have Dr. Starline's big plan which is to create his own version of Sonic and Tails which is an interesting idea but a bit of a let down but I do like the design of Kit as she looks cool and she has cool powers but the other one was just annoying. It was funny seeing that this plan backfired on Dr. Starline.
This was an incredible study on parallel characters and symbolism, and one of the best issues within the entire series. I was not expecting to like Surge and Kit nearly as much as I do, but they were both incredibly written.
Absolutely peak fiction, and I'm very excited to see how the series will turn from here.
overexpository dialogue, weak pencil art, and odd page layouts make for an exhausting read in way of imposter syndrome. not without its charms! the new not-scourge character, surge, shares a similar backstory with shadow - but it makes you wonder, is that all they have to cook up? with a throwaway line she said to metal sonic ("you're not even good enough to be my fake"), and the act of surge and what's-his-name being legitimately sonic & tails clones if not for brainwashed mentalities and a palette swap, it feels like we're running out of ideas and we're running out FAST...
hoping this was just a dip in IDW. scrapnik island ROCKED!
solid mini, really love kit and surge, does a good job hyping up whats to come, has some really good moments, and the mystery about them is pretty gripping and the rest of their origins is far less predictable than belle's was
I love Surge and Kit but the overall plot line and action of this miniseries felt very repetitive. Probably could have been two issues instead of four.
