The Beast Wars rage on! After the Maximals' assault on the Predacon base, both sides are looking for a win. But they find more than they anticipated, as a treasure trove of energon and the secret behind the aggressive mutant animals that inhabit the planet are unveiled and the Children of the Vok make themselves known! Can Optimus Primal and Megatron bring their teams together, or will Cheetor, Nyx, Waspinator, Blackarachnia, Rattrap, and the rest fall one by one?

Erik Burnham

Erik Burnham is a Minnesotan writer and artist that first broke into comics with a series of humorous short stories in the Shooting Star Comics Anthology. These stories featured his original creation, Nick Landime, and culminated in a one-shot: Nick Landime vs. the World Crime League, published by Shooting Star in 2005.

Off and on, in this same time period, Erik also produced a short run of an online strip, The Down Side, until technical issues wore him down. He aims to return to the strip one day.

In 2007, Erik found produced work for two other anthologies – a short humor piece for History Graphics Press’ Civil War Adventures #1, and a horror story for Gene Simmons’ House of Horror #3, produced by IDW Publishing.

This lead to several other projects for IDW, up to and including his critically acclaimed run on the ongoing GHOSTBUSTERS comic book.

Erik has worked on other projects not related to comic books, and hopes one day to share those with the public at large. In the meantime, he still lives quietly in Minnesota; any rumors about this being because he’s completely afraid of the forty-nine other states (and Canada) remain unverified at this time.

The Vok have one final test for the Transformers, and it'll take the combined might of the Maximals and the Predacons to win the day!

Ah, Beast Wars, we hardly knew ye. These final five issues bring the story that Erik Burnham was trying to tell to a hasty conclusion, for better or worse. He manages to preserve the character interactions that have made this run so much fun, and having the two sets of rival 'formers together is a delight. The ultimate conclusion to the story is solid, if not really an 'ending' as much as a 'To Be Continued'. It's a shame, but it's certainly better than just having no resolution at all.

Also included is the Beast Wars Annual, which includes some shorter stories focusing on different characters. None of these are particularly impactful on the main story, but they're fun little side pieces - there are a lot of reasons why I wish we'd had more time with this series, but more time for fun little things like this would definitely be on that list.

It's a shame to see Beast Wars come to an end when it was really just getting started, but it is what it is I suppose. This final volume does a decent job of rounding things up if not completely then at least in a fairly satisfying way.

A bit bummed to find out this marks the ending of Beast Wars as the Transformers license prepares to transfer back from IDW to Hasbro and where ever else they might ship comic adaptations to next. This last issue feels a bit hurried and doesn’t offer up a super satisfying conclusion, but I still greatly enjoy how this series continues to play around with expectations around how this fits into the only cartoon series of anticipates the arrival of the Beast Machines show. I honestly would have been just fine continuing to read this series for many more volumes to come.

Only disappointment is that it had to end so soon.

Gone too soon, Was nice while it lasted.
Excellent use of the toy exclusive transformers too! Why IDW, Why?
Well done considering how rushed the series was.
Fair warning cliff hanger present
