“You gave me hope, Eyden. And now it’s drowning me.”

I received this ARC and I will forever be grateful. And before you think “you just saying that because it was free” ➡️ I finished it and IMMEDIATELY preordered the hardcover on Amazon ‼️

But I digress. The book. THIS BOOK BLEW MY MIND. High fantasy like I’ve read few. Perfect world building. Two POVs but not love interests… how refreshing is that?! Now, now. You know I’m a romantasy person so I wouldn’t be going crazy here if there wasn’t any romance. And boy, did we ever had romance: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn, forbidden love 👀

The plot. My sweet baby llamas. How the dominos fell so perfectly 😱 can someone please read this super fast after release so I can discuss it?! I need you, bookish friends!

The characters. Amira, my sweet summer child, I want to hold you, I want to tell you everything is going to be ok. I want you to break free and grow strong. But if I liked Amira… Lora is my absolute ride or die. I have, however, a feeling El is going to put a good fight to win this battle for my heart. Eyden, I don’t believe that piece of hot garbage. You’re perfect. Rhay, what am I going to do with you?! Rhay kind of reminds me of ACOTAR’s Lucien 🤔 if Lucien drank more and was best friends with a psychopath. Talking about psychopaths… Karwyn… go dië somewhere. Far. I’m also going to take 10 baths tonight because for a moment there I thought maybe there was a dark but kind soul under all of that. Brrrr. I disgust myself sometimes. *sigh* Eyden, I wish you didn’t need convincing from El but alas let’s save Lora. NA. 5 FREAKING stars ⭐️

P.S.: El and Amira, right?! 👀😏

Through Fire and Ruin is a NA fantasy novel told in a dual POV. Lora, a half-fae, has to travel to the fae world to find a cure that will hopefully save her family from the deadly virus that's slowly killing everyone around her. Once there she makes a deal with fae trader Eyden in the hopes of finding a cure.
The fae princess Amira can finally escape the wrath of her half-brother by marrying the future king. But after arriving at the palace, Amira realizes that she might just traded one hell for another.

First and foremost, I haven't read a high fantasy book like this in months. The synposis drew me in right from the start, as soon as I heard fae I was entirely sold. But this novel is so much more than just that. There was intrigue, dark secrets, court politics executed in a fantastic way (!!!) and even romance, which I didn't expect at all.

The dual POV really knocked this out of the park for me. It gave the overall story such an interesting twist and left me on edge more than once. Some chapters ended on a small cliffhanger and when the next chapter changed to the other character's view, I really wanted to scream 😂 To see how the two different characters are somehow connected in this singular world just added to the atmosphere. Especially the relationship between Lora and her fae companion Eyden was so well done. It was more on the slow-burn side but it never felt forced or unnatural. Their chemistry built over time as the story progressed and fit everything perfectly.
My heart bled for Amira, that poor girl has to go through some serious trouble. And some characters left me quite unsure if they're good or act like it with bad intentions in mind.

The ending was mean though!! I'm so so curious to see how this story continues! Until then I can highly recommend this story if you enjoy fae/high fantasy, court intrigue and politics, enemies/strangers to lovers or arranged marriage.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

-"'There’s nothing good between us,' he said. His voice had turned husky and Lora’s thoughts emptied as the fire inside her took over.
'Nothing but insanity,' she breathed.
'Nothing but ruin.' He said it like a dare."-

loraeyden slay so hard..... i want em

-------------------------

Calling all my friends and followers who share the same book taste as me, who've read books on my recommendation, who are not against reading indie pub books, who KNOW there are hidden gems and especially the charlie travesty fans bc this reminded me of that serial so much. You know who I'm referring to. I'll tag y'all if I have to, to bring attention to this. book.

Don't go on the cover. I know it's ugly (sorry) and the synopsis isn't that captivating either but the reviews seemed geniune, there was geniune excitement for the story and characters and there you go. I was in. The hefty length took me surprise but I'm here to erase all your fears, it was worth it!!! Not a single word was extra. The chapters were pretty short and I finished the book in LESS THAN TWO DAYS. It didn't feel like a long book?? I was just giddy I could be on this journey for more time than usual. This is a debut novel and I'm shook. The writing was so natural. After so long, I've read something refined come out of the indie world. I'm so impressed. It takes years for people to attain this level of smooth sailing. You know I'm a sucker for good dialogue and this delivered.

It's labeled as NA fantasy and the characters are in their 20s but they read like a YA fantasy, late teens to be exact. The club scene was as tame as the one in percy jackson. It didn't read adult-ish, the characters were teens in my mind. I think it would've been better marketing as well to put it in the YA category. Ofc in the later sequels, it may progress to be more NA. This has potential to be a huge YA seller.

The world building wasn't phenomenal but honestly I really don't care sjjdjsj the fae were interesting enough for me. They weren't the sjm-type hormonal territorial faes no sir!!! I'm happy with that and so should you be.

I'm literally mush right now bc a) found a good urban fantasy after so long b) the plot twists?!&@*@( this could easily go in spoiler territory but i will refrain for now bc i want my oomfs to read it first.

lemme quickly make a list for those who Have read it:
- lora and eyden MY LOVES you know its a good ship when not many tropes apply to them. if i had to label it would be reluctant partners to lovers and they were re-luc-tant to the T. I loved the natural progression. I was squealing. Oh, and it was so close to having a one-bed trope but eydan made her sleep on the couch? damn you eyden. anyway the little things that were special to them like trust, lies and promises 😥
- amira didn't have a love story and i was pleasantly taken back?? at one point i thought karwyn would have some kind of redemption and He'll be the love interest but HELL NO. he remained a mean bitch and will continue to be.
- amira is a sweetling but i admit sometimes she made some dumb moves and i wanted her to get a grip. she could've easily avoided karwyns and wyrens wrath if she tried to but nah she let rhay distract her.
- RHAY at first i was convinced he'll be the friendly guy who jokes his out of duty and he was that on the exterior, but i know He'll play a major role and i do love him and relate to him. his relationship with karwyn and amira is a tangled mess and im all in. he reminded me of raffaele from the young elites. and lora was like scarlet from the lunar chronicles
- elyssa x amira ?! sapphics in book two exactly!
- speaking of book 2, when is it coming? how long do i have to wait

At first glance, the premise might feel a bit familiar: (modern-day) humans and fae, separated by a magical border, distrustful of each other after years of conflict. But the authors breathe new life into this classic setup by blending high-stakes politics, intricate power plays, and rich character-driven drama.

The plot is driven by two fascinating and contrasting main POVs. Lora is a human willing to risk it all to find a cure for a deadly virus sweeping across Earth. She brings a fierce, desperate energy to the story. Her journey is filled with deception and the need to survive in the fae world where humans are unwanted. Lora's interactions with Eyden, a mysterious fae trader, are laced with tension as she balances her promises to both her family, the lies she tells to protect them, and her slow-burn feelings for him.

Amira is a low-magic fae pledged to the acting King and tormented by her sadistic brother. Her perspective offers a different kind of tension: a quieter, more psychological one. Trapped in a strange palace, bound by her brother's machinations and her engagement to the brooding and malevolent future High King, she’s a character caught in a gilded cage. She is torn between her friendship with one of the King's friends, her brother's control, and her future husband's indifference. She finds dark secrets hidden within the palace walls, forcing Amira to confront her morality and past.

What makes the two POVs particularly fun is how these two storylines intersect in both large and small ways. The authors do a great job weaving Lora and Amira's paths together, creating a sense of upcoming collision as things escalate. The underlying political intrigue and power games keep the plot moving at a fast pace, and the dark magic lurking in the background adds a layer of suspense.

The romance elements are nicely handled, too. There’s an undeniable chemistry between Lora and Eyden and their attraction is one of mutual fascination with hidden motives. They are both sweet, vulnerable, and passionate at times.

I also really appreciated the world-building. It's detailed enough to feel immersive without being overwhelming, and the history between Earth and the fae domain added interest. The human rebellion subplot, with Elyssa at its core, is another highlight—bringing a raw and rebellious energy that contrasts nicely with the courtly intrigue of Liraen. Plus Elyssa is fab. Love her.

This is definitely darker than I initially expected. It doesn’t shy away from exploring darker themes of control, manipulation, and a thirst for power, and it delivers them with maturity.

I'm hooked and I’m excited to see where the authors take this series next. Thanks to R&R Booktours and the authors for the opportunity to read and review. This review is based on a complimentary copy and it is voluntary. All opinions are my own.

This book stole my soul, ripped out my heart and crushed it between the very pages. Wow.
I fell in deep right on the get-go when Lora was introduced. A strong, stubborn female lead that is sure to keep things interesting wherever she goes, because to the places she goes no one she knows can follow. I got sucked through the portal right along with her as she entered the fairyland and fell into the arms of Eyden.
Oh my gods how I loved Eyden!! And I loved Rhay. I absolutely hated Amira’s brother and despised Karwyn. So many emotions all mixed up in a perfect book cocktail. I never wanted it to end! Why did it have to end?!

Lora is a perfectly normal human girl with a perfectly normal secret. Oh wait, she aint all that normal and her secret is the only thing able to save her mother when she fell sick with a deadly virus. Her only purpose is to find a cure and get back home safely. Only the cure is across the border in a Fae world full of dangers and safety is never guaranteed. Making a deal with what might as well have been a devil, Lora plunges into her quest in a stubborn rush. Only, Eyden is digging deeper into her heart the longer Lora stays in the fairy world and her priorities get mingled up with new missions. Eyden dug deep into my heart, too! With every remark and word play they exchanged my heart beat faster for them! And oh my god, the fire those two harbored makes me blush.

Eyden gave me, at the beginning when him and Lora just met, an older uncle vibes . No idea why, don’t ask me. That quickly changed once they started to get to know each other better with one sarcastic comment after another. Really loved every bit of him and I’ve got so many questions. So many!

Amira has a whole lot of problems, keeping her mother safe is just the tip of the iceberg. Only, Amira’s mother needs no cure for a deadly illness and the only way to keep her safe is following the commands of her cruel brother and marrying an even crueler tyrant. Oh yes, Amira has an amazing life as a half-fae princess without any power to speak of. She gets pushed and pulled around like a puppet on strings. The only positive thing in her life in the foreign court is Rhay. Rhay the king’s best friend, the very same king Amira is supposed to marry. Rhay the fae that quite likely has fallen in love with her. Rhay that has got to keep a secret bigger than loving his best friend’s bride! Oh my god! And that’s when my heart screamed.

Rhay!! So many good scenes with him. I love him to bits, I really do. Drowning his worries in sarcasm and alcohol is Rhay’s way to live. And ofcourse the parties. Endless parties. But despite being the best friend of a cruel ruler, Rhay has a good heart and that’ll get him in trouble. So much trouble! You’ll just have to find out for yourselves!

All in all, reading Through Fire & Ruin was a rollercoaster ride and it was waaay too short for my liking! There’s got to be more coming and now! I need it right now!

Through Fire And Ruin is my debut novel and the first in a New Adult fantasy romance trilogy.

I wasn't sure if I should rate my own book. But the thing is, if I wasn't proud of it and if I didn't think it deserved 5 stars, I wouldn't be publishing it. So here I am ;) I may be a tiny bit biased, but I love the story and the characters Alice and I have created.

To anyone reading this, I hope you love TFAR as much as I loved writing it. Thanks for picking up my book!

I absolutely loved this book. It is obvious the amount of work that went into perfecting this story following the two MC's whos worlds collide in the most unexpected way. As the stakes are raised for both Lora and Amira, their emotional journey heightens gripping the reader and when the bombshell drops at the end I was speechless. *chef's kiss*.

I can't wait to see what's next in the adventure for these two and I would highly recommend this indie debut to anyone who loves well developed, adventure romantic fantasy with a character driven plot and a dramatic ending which leaves you wanting more.

Rating 4.8 stars - When I tell you how blown away I am - I WAS BLOWN OUT TO SPACE. I am SO impressed with this novel!!

Blurb:
Lora is on a mission for a cure for the virus that has plagued the humans in their realm and ends up in the Fae world, tangled with a Fae she isn't sure she can trust but has the answers she needs. While hiding her own secrets.
Amira has spent years abused by her brother, now sent off as the fiancé of the high King of Liraen. What she thought was an escape turns into more darkness and secrets.

We have 2 POVs of two FMCs - Lora and Amira (which let me just say how refreshing it was to not have POV from both love interests).

Plot: When I tell you I have not read a book that flowed so seamlessly like this is quite some time. The plot developed perfectly, the chemistry and relationship between characters developed at the most natural pace. This had all the plotting and politics I want in a fantasy novel.

Pacing: No lull for me. The chapters end on a cliff hanger so I was pulled in the entire time.

World building: It is a moderate-high fantasy level book. Super easy to follow as it was written exceptionally well.

Characters: LISTEN - IT WAS GIVING GAME OF THRONES - You have your characters that are just tortured emotionally and physically that you are rooting for, you have your badass female character. You have the man with secrets we are all swooning for. You have another man that is completely broken but has so much potential to be better. AND THEN YOU HAVE THE MOST EVIL, VILE human.
I am so invested in their stories.
And it was amazing to see how the two MFC become intertwined.

My only gripe: It was advertised as NA - but was giving very much YA in regards to spice and character maturity (at times).

Overall: Read it - this was OUTSTANDING and felt different and refreshing for fantasy.

Through Fire and Ruin is being told by Lora and Amira. Lora comes from Earth while Amira is from the Fae world called Liraen. Lora has been warned about the fae her entire life, but what if her only choice is to go to the fae world to find a cure for the virus that is plaguing humanity? Amira has spent years trapped by her asshole of a brother (Wryen) and her only chance of escape is to be engaged with the soon to be High King of Liraen (Karwyn).

✶ Lora makes a deal with Eyden to cross the border between Earth and Liraen, to find the cure of the plague. Honestly, I prefer reading Lora’s POV than Amira, however, I still enjoyed both POV. There was just more going on with Lora than Amira. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EYDEN because of what he fights for. I enjoyed his banter and interactions with Lora. I do wish that both were more truthful with each other, specially after some time of being in each others company. I also LOVE Eyden’s sister Elyssa. Elyssa is a total badass who does not let her hearing impairment get in the way. Then there’s Amira’s torturous life. I mean can a girl get a break? I truly hope she gets her retribution in the next book!

✶ I initially thought Karwyn was just bad on the surface but deep down he might be good but boy was I wrong! Him and Wryen can both go rot in hell because honestly WTF?!? Then I thought I liked Rhay because he was there for Amira (well most the time) but then he ignores all the bullshit that is going on in the palace and again WTF!?

☾ You might like this book if you like:
✶ One bed trope
✶ Force proximity
✶ Enemies to lovers
✶ Fae

☾ What I initially liked about this book:
✶ Map
✶ A list of kingdoms
✶ Pronunciations (this is by far my favorite)

I will start this review by thanking the author for providing me with a copy of the book to read and honestly review! ‘Through Fire and Ruin’ was everything a debut fantasy novel ought to be, and it kept me on my toes until I reached the last page!✨

I think what made me enjoy the most was the dual POV and the fact that it was between two characters that weren’t love interests! I grew attached to both Amira and Lora (though I ended up adoring Amira a tiny bit more!) and I was continually rooting for them pushing past their limits and finding their way through the intricate fantasy world. The plot and the world building are very well constructed and every detail connects perfectly to every other! I loved how the romance was subtle and how I have already decided which couples I’m absolutely aching for! Finally, some appreciation for Rhay (am I the only one who got Lucien X Magnus Bane vibes??)

All in all, TFAR was a wonderful start to what will surely be a fascinating fantasy series! Really enjoyed! 4 stars⭐️

This book was so cool! The authors managed to write both a modern human world and a magical fae world existing simultaneously in a clear, exciting way. My favorite character is Elyssa for sure because she’s an utter badass who doesn’t let her hearing impairment stop her from doing whatever she wants and as someone who has severe hearing loss, this meant a lot to me. I also wanna give a shoutout to my king Eyden because I’m actually in love with him, thanks!! This book is def worth giving a shot if you like fae fantasy! It ends on quiiiiite the cliffhanger so I’ll be waiting with baited breath for the sequel. 🤓

Firstly, thank-you to Jennifer and Alice for the ARC of your debut novel. Secondly, wow. This book really truly ticked all the boxes.

Through Fire and Ruin is a fantasy romance novel that takes place in the Fae world Liraen. Let me first say that it’s written using dual POV, check number 1. But it’s different from what I typically read as this story follows the independent stories of two strong women simultaneously, as they embark on their own unique and imperative missions. I loved being able to live through both the strong and stubborn minds of Lora and Amira as they interact and build relationships with other characters, check number 2. The character building is strong but the relationship building stole my heart, and I cannot wait to see where they go in both romance and friendship, check number 3.

I should also mention that the world building was intricate, but not confusing. It was articulated clearly, and the transition between plots and perspectives was seamless. And that’s check number 4!

If you love fae fantasy romance filled with romance, magic, friendship, and exhilaration I highly recommend picking up/ordering Through Fire and Ruin on May 6th, 2022! I am already itching for the second book in this planned trilogy and the first hasn’t even released yet. But mark my words when it’s out, I will be.

Woweeee are we sure this is a debut novel??? It reads so smoothly and it’s such a great story. The fantasy elements are a bit basic, but I love the mix of human and fae worlds and the setup for the novel.

The main character is Lora, a half human half fae who enters the fae world through a portal to get a cure for a virus that’s spreading across the human world. The book follows her journey through Liraen as well as that of Amira, a princess who’s engaged to another fae.

I will say, I thoroughly enjoyed Lora as a character and her adventures with Eyden. I loved Rhay’s friendship with Amira but nonetheless her chapters felt a little repetitive and circular. I’m really interested to see where this story goes as there is quite a bit of action and reveals at the end that had me feeling anxious for the fate of these characters.

Loved this!

Thank you Jennifer Becker and Alice Karpiel for providing me with the eARC for this!

Drawing me in from the synopsis is what this book did, literally anything to do with fae's is a yes in my book and this not only had that but so much more.

If you are looking for a high fantasy, two POV's that literally are not love interests (this is something you don't see everyday) and fantastic world building you should totally pick this one up.

Stunning writing and the way it made me have more then one feeling ugh! love it. Lora and Eyden FAVES!!!! Amira such a sweet person but maybe she needs to think before making some moves?

I cannot wait for book two! Would love to know when it is coming!?!?!?

Wow 🤩 this book was awesome!! I definitely enjoyed every minute of it. The debut novel is everything and more. If your a fan of Intricate world building, Fae, and romance you came to the right place.

This story is basically two in one. It follows two characters that lives seem to weave together in a twist of fate.
Lora a human and half fae that leaves her world behind in an attempt to save the ones she loves. She meets Edwyn a Fae that is willing to help her but has himself so closed off that two find themselves having difficulty trusting each other. Although their seems to be lack of alternatives and they must learn to work together.

Amira is a princess that find herself leaving one horrible existence to what she thinks is freedom from under the thumb of her brother. Only to find out the new kingdom holds many terrible secrets. She holds on hope that she will be able to make an impact and change the course. Although it seems that may prove harder to accomplish than she anticipates.

It’s a book that will have you wanting to stay up to continue reading. It has some spice 🌶that I would say is on the mild side. It’s definitely slow burn 🔥. There is adventure and forged friendships and mystery. Overall I give this 5 ⭐️ it’s a great debut NA novel by two wonderful authors.

I highly recommend preordering and reading!!

I received an arc in exchange for honest review. 💕

This beauty gets a 4.5 stars!

What a debut!! I'm completely blown away by this story. There's so many layers to it, especially following two MCs. We get so many interwoven plots and intrigue, and so many moving parts in this grand puzzle of a book. Where do I even begin?

Eyden. He seems like a great place to start. Omg I love him so much!! And I was totally shipping him & Lora the entire way! But omg he is such an enigma of a character. Just like Lora, you're never 100% certain you can trust him, and always figure there must be some ulterior motives, but what could they be? I love how complex he is, and other characters as well. And that alone makes me appreciate a book so much! Fully formed characters are what I live for! And they're all so unique and complex, and yet I feel like there's soooo much more we have yet to learn about them. Like we just got a couple layers from them in this book, and yet there's soo many more to peel back in the next. Especially Eyden and Rhay. And I can't wait to see it!

As for the plot, which is equally as complex and always changing, I can't say too much cause I don't want to spoil anything. But I will say, there are quite a few twists that I just didn't expect and I'm so here for it! More often than not I guess things well in advance, but this story kept me guessing on some things until the end, and then just threw out punches on other things that I didn't even know I should consider :P

On a totally different note I'm shipping Amira with Varsha >_> But I also don't think that's where things are going, but I'm hoping it does hehe. But poor Amira needs some LOVE in the next book! My god she goes through so much hell :( You just want to reach into the book and give her such a tight bear hug and tell her things will get better *sniffles* I'm really crossing all my fingers that poor sweetie gets some blessings in the next book instead of all the curses.

There's just soooo much to that happens in this book, so much to talk about, and yet I think my brain is still trying to process it all =O And I'm just hoping the next book won't be too long of a wait :P

My only qualm was PANDEMIC!! Made me twitchy lol. But it's only the first couple chapters that really focus hard on it.

I have so many thoughts and questions and I really need that sequel ASAP!

✨Have you ever beta read for someone before? ✨

I had the absolute pleasure of reading Through Fire and Ruin by Jennifer Becker and Alice Karpiel this summer and I’m here to tell you to add this book to your 2022 TBR list immediately.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Becker and Karpiel have a way with their writing that no one else does. Through Fire and Ruin follow Lora a human who ends up in this Fae world trying to find a cute for her mother who is ill and Amira a Fae princess who is trying to find an escape to her life. I fell in love with both Lora and Amira and was rooting for them while they both struggled to overcome what life threw at them.

This NA novel had everything I love and more such as amazing world building that’s done so well that you don’t get overwhelmed, adventures where you’re transported to a place where anything and everything is possible, romances where you don’t know who exactly to root for because you love all the characters.

✎ Review:
I absolutely loved this book! Reading this reminded me of why I love fantasy so much. I really enjoyed reading about the world and the religion in this. I found it so fascinating.

I already miss all the characters that I got to know and I cannot wait to get to know them better in the next book! I liked the different perspectives we got to see the world through. It made me understand the world in a better light. I liked how the perspectives came together in the end and I cannot wait to see how they combine more in the future.

Some things were a little predictable but I honestly didn’t mind. Not everything ofc. It was just enough in my opinion. I really recommend this book and I hope you pick it up!

Now is the perfect chance to start the book because book 2 comes out June 23! I’m definitely going to continue this series!

4.5 stars! This is such an intriguing and cool mash up of urban and high fantasy. Two stories running parallel, seemingly not connected, but as the book progresses, we discover things are much more connected than they ever seemed.

For Lora, half fae living in the human world and hiding her fae side entirely, her priorities are her family and making it day to day while a horrible pandemic ravages the world, killing millions, with no cure in sight. When the illness hits home, she’s faced with the difficult decision to go in search for a cure from the fae, even if it is forbidden, and often deadly, to cross through the portal that links the fae and human realms. Lora connects with a black market dealer on the fae side who agrees to help her search for a cure, but he’s got secrets of his own, and neither of them really trusts the other. Lora is used to a world of technology and advancements, none of which are found easily in the fae world, so she relies heavily on those she meets to guide her and help her save her family.

For Amira, a fae princess, all she wants is to be free of the abuse and tyranny of her step brother, who is now king. An arranged marriage to the soon to be King of Liraen seems to be a way out, until she realizes that she is apparently only changing out one darkness for another, and the freedom she desperately desires may be out of reach forever. As she navigates the intrigues and mysteries of this new kingdom, she uncovers things that surprise and terrify her, and she is determined to wrest back control of her life somehow.

I loved seeing how these stories slowly started to touch and cross each other, little moments that gradually increase in frequency and importance, and by the end of the book, even without them realizing it, the two stories are completely interconnected. The secondary character development is fascinating and complex. Friendships and alliances are built, but there is a constant question of loyalty and motivation. Betrayals and revelations are everywhere, and come from even some unexpected places. The cliffhanger left me completely second guessing my opinion of certain characters, while solidifying and affirming my theories on others, and I love that it all still kept me guessing to the end. We are left on a very intriguing precipice. Both Lora and Amira are in positions where they could lose any hope, and the way they are handling their situations seem to be starkly different. But there are a lot of open doors in this plot, and I am very excited to see which ones we go through and where they’re going to take us!

I'll start by saying that i'm so grateful to have been selected to beta read this manuscript because it means I got to read this absolute gem of a book!

When I tell you that i BINGE read the manuscript in literally 3 days (I had actually been on holiday so it took a little longer than expected) it was probably the most focused i've ever been on reading an almost 600 page book. Through Fire and Ruin is a duel-pov book following Lora and Amira and the challenges they both overcome in their respective storylines.

We start the book meeting Lora, a nice girl living in the human world trying to live life and help her family while a contagious sickness spreads across the world. We follow her journey of adventure as she enters into the Fae realm to try and put an end to the virus. She meets Eyden, a tall, dark and handsome fae trader who ends up reluctantly helping Lora along her adventure in the Fae world.

Amira is a Fae princess, trying to escape her brother's cruelty and find meaning in life. When her arranged marriage ends up worse than expected, she tries to make connections with the people around her while attempting civility with her new husband, Karwyn.

This book is phenomenally written by both Becker and Karpiel; the mix between the duel point of views are fluid and the dialogue is full of realistic emotion and not melodrama like some fantasy books. This book felt very real to me, it was very easy to read - and keep reading - and I really understood all the flaws in each character which made even the most horrible Fae very human.

I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who loved Fantasy, High fantasy and New Adult fiction. I never felt overwhelmed with info-dumping because little snippets on info about this different Fae world was sprinkled throughout the book which made it a very fun read. There is a couple of plot-twists and cliff-hangers in this book so if you like to be kept on your toes and surprised with something you would never expect, you will probably love this book.

This book is a definite 5 star read for me and even though I read it many months ago, I still think about it to this day. Both Lora and Amira (and my favourite side character Elyssa) are awesome and I will be buying both this book and the sequel as soon as I'm able to.

3.5/5⭐️

I was very fortunate to receive this as an e-book ARC and I can confidently say that I was pleasantly surprised throughout this read.

Jennifer and Alice work hard to create an interesting and fresh world, following two different POVs of Lora and Amira. I found this to be amazingly unique, following two POVs who weren’t love interests but stories overlap down the track.

Set initially in a human world wrecked by a plague impacting the world, we follow our first protagonist Lora strive to find a cure for her sick mother. I lowkey got Defy the Night vibes but where it grabbed me was when Lora’s heritage allows her to travel to fae world. There we met the charming/grumpy Eyden. I loved this dynamic play out as the plot develops. Whilst simultaneously reading about an arranged marriage of Amira to soon-to-be king Karwyn. Here we read of a flirtatious friendship with Amira and Rhay and I must say Rhay has a little bit of my heart.

THIS IS HOW YOU START A SERIES!

Wow.

The tension between the main characters is unmatched. The enemies to almost something to betrayal to maybe almost something and back again. It's incredible because you clearly know the love interests feel something very strong for each other, but they stick to their paths and don't let their feelings change who they are or what they want.

The way the plot twists are layered in and come completely by surprise will kick you right in the gut.

Anyway, I'm obsessed. I can't wait for the next installment.

I was absolutely thrilled to be one of the beta readers for this book. I gotta say, Jen and Alice definitely took my breath away.
I remember sitting down to read this book and the literally being so taken away by the story that I finished the whole manuscript in 2 days and kept wanting more of it. Written in 2 POVs, this book let me live through both Lora and Amira's eyes for a while and boy oh boy I have no complaints(*cough* Rhay *cough* Eyden).Like I said, NONE. This is definitely one of those books where you absolutely cannot choose one favourite character because everyone is so precious in their own way. I honestly cannot wait for this wholesome, badass, thrilling story to be out in the world. And I personally cannot wait for the sequel. *cries in cliffhanger*

Through Fire and Ruin tells the story of a world split in 2 by a border, on 1 side is the magical Fae and the other is the human world which is overcome with a deadly virus. Lora, a human, travels to the Fae world in search of a cure for her mother who is ill from the disease. Amira, a Fae Princess, tries to escape her brother who controls her life and before she knows it is forced into an arranged marriage.

First of all I just want to say a massive thank you for being sent this ARC copy and how amazing this book was for a debut novel by new writers! The dual POV of 2 amazing and powerful female main characters, Lora and Amira, was a joy to read and each chapter of their POV kept me wanting more meaning it was hard to put down. The portrayal of both of their relationships with other characters was so well written and their developments were fantastic, obviously talking about their relationships with Eyden and Rhay!! I have become such a big fan of fantasy recently so I got through this book quite quickly, I loved every character and hated every character that we should *cough* Karwyn *cough* he is the literal devil! The ending has left me wanting more😍🤩

Let me start off by saying thank you so much to the authors for sending me an ARC of this book. I absolutely love adult fantasy and the way this book pulled me in...I had to read it all in one sitting😭 lemme tell yall, you're not ready!!

This debut novel is about two female main characters, Lora and Amira. Lora is from the human world whereas Amira comes from a fae world called Liraen. It's written in dual POV and it's amazing to see how each chapter is different in setting and retrospective.

Lora's world has been plagued with a virus that is killing humanity, when a family member falls ill, she has to venture into the Fae world in hopes to find a cure.

Amira is a Fae princess who is trying to escape her brother's cruelty and find meaning in life. When her arranged marriage ends up worse than expected...

Whilst the plot is quite complex, I won't say too much because I don't want to spoil anything, but the story was easy to read, gripping and is told beautifully.

There were definitely some twists that I didn't see coming and the ending was left at a cliff hanger so now I have to patiently wait for the sequel🥲

What I really liked about this book were that there is an amazing map, a detailed list of kingdoms and pronunciations!! 🎉 You can tell there was so much thought gone into the way this world was created.

I also find it really cool how the authors managed to write about Fae in a modern human world as well as a magical fae kingdom in parallel with the story!

I cannot wait for the sequel and I hope we don't have to wait too long before it comes out 😭

Through Fire and Ruin comes out on May 6th so get pre-ordering! - I know I ordered the physical copy immediately after finishing the ebook 🙈💗

This book should be a bestseller, hyped all over Instagram. Really, you all need to go and read it ASAP.

This is a fantasy series first book, book two is also out, and I tell you, you would want to jump to it immediately.

The pace of this book is perfect, the writing excellent, and it keeps you engaged from the first page, with great deep and lovable characters and a layered villain that you both are eager to know more about and completely hate.

The romance is wonderful. The chemistry and attraction between the characters increase through the story in a very realistic way, and you fall in love with them at the same time. There is a sprinkle of spice at the end, really well done, that would make you flush.

I am not one to obsess over ships, but even though Amira and Elyssa only meet for a couple of minutes in this book, I am absolutely obsessed with them. Like, there are absolutely no other couple who are better suited for each other.

I also loved how diverse the cast is, including disability (hard of hearing) and queer characters in various ways.
So if you like fantasy, romance, court intrigue, witches, fae, and a bit of spice, read this.

This is the first book in a new adult fantasy trilogy and it is going to take Bookstagram by storm! If you love a great forced proximity, enemies to lovers, or one bed trope then this one is for you.
Long ago a hole was torn in the universe between Earth and the realm of the fae, Liraen. Humans were enslaved until the witches placed a powerful spell on the border keeping the realms apart. Only death awaits those who try to cross. Now a pandemic is spreading in the human realm and the only hope for a cure lies with the fae in Liraen. There are rumors a child of both races could cross. When the mother of Lora, a half-fae, falls ill she must make a difficult and forbidden decision.
Told from multiple POVs and filled with magic, mystery, action, romance, rebellion, twists, and court politics-Through Fire and Ruin has something for everyone. The world building is excellent, character development is astonishing, and the story will leave you awake until the early hours of the morning saying "Just one more chapter!"

Let me start by thanking the authors for sending me an ARC of this book. Everyone who knows me knows that I’m extremely critical of fantasy books and rarely find ones I truly love. This book pulled me in; I read it in one sitting and couldn’t let it go at all. On one side, we have Lora, a strong female lead living on the human side of the world where a deadly virus has been sweeping the streets. When a family member falls ill, Lora has to venture into Faerie to save her family. On the other side, we have Amira, a princess hoping to find comfort and safety in her future husband’s kingdom. The authors have managed to create an enchanting and intriguing woven story full of magic, love, friendship, fantasy and excitement. I can’t wait for book 2 and I can’t wait for everyone to read this and be blessed by this absolute gem of a book🤍
