The City of Perfection had remained hidden for over 300 years, encased in a glass pyramid with walls too thick to see through. Many had encountered the pyramid, deep within the forest, but ignored its presence. It appeared to be nothing more than a dilapidated remnant of the old world. No one could have guessed that it housed an entire city of women, each identical to one another. Claire is just one of hundreds of clones in Perfection who believe that the world had been destroyed by a nuclear war. Certain death awaits any woman who goes outside. She detests her job and lack of individuality, but finds solace in forbidden books until her best friend threatens to turn her in. Claire is distraught, but when she finds a tunnel leading out of the pyramid she sees a way to end her suffering. She leaves her home behind, expecting instant death, but instead finds herself surrounded by life.

For the past three hundred years, a secret city named "Perfection" has been hidden inside a giant glass pyramid with impenetrable walls. Most who encountered it believed it to be an abandoned relic and simply ignored it. However, the truth was, the inside was filled with hundreds of identically cloned women, living in their own highly structured world. The women in this city believe that the world outside was destroyed in a nuclear war and that if they step out of the pyramid, they will die. At the beginning of our story, Claire becomes the first woman to realize that none of this is true. Claire is a janitor in Perfection and has an all-access key to the city. One day, Claire finds a door she's never been through, and finds an exit to the outside.
This story was so riveting and fast-paced. It reminded me a lot of The Giver, and other similar dystopian novels. However, this was a lovely original story with many delicious plot twists that I never saw coming. Claire is an extremely likable character and I could probably read 100 books narrated by her. I truly hope there will be a second book because there's so much more I want to know!

I would recommend this to anyone who loved The Giver or who loves post-apocalyptic worlds.

This is a wonderful science fiction YA tale of a society of clones in the future where a young woman searches for her identity and purpose in the world. A delightful first novel. Looking forward to seeing more from her!

I didn’t expect to love this book this much. I enjoyed reading this one especially cuz it’s fast-paced. I need the next book ASAP.
I’m rooting for Milo, even if he doesn’t end up with Claire on the next one I want him to find someone that would love him as much as he deserves and I hope he doesn’t die.
They need to find Millie 🥹
Even though she’s a bad friend to Claire she’s still Claire’s best friend and she loves her like a sister.
Also….The betrayal at the ending!? 🤯

Loved the concept, the characters and the start to what I hope is a series. Was an easy and captivating read. I love post apocalyptic stories and loved the take on this genre.
The story is set 300 years after a near extinction event has occurred. Parts of USA is under water, the capital is buffalo and it's ruled by a monarch. No one knows how to operate the technology of the past and people live with simplicity. The focus is on a township called Frozen Lake where there aren't any rules or laws, but people operate with common sense and kindness. One of the main characters Yvain keeps to himself on his farm, is a bit of an outsider in this town and he holds his secret. One day whilst fishing, he hears a woman screaming, goes to investigate in the forest nearby and finds Claire passed out. Where did she come from? Who is she? What was she doing in a forest all by herself? And then the story continues... Don't want to give too much away.
I particularly liked that after such a tragic event, people had come together to build communities. It was nice to read that people just knew their roles and what their place in that community were. This wasn't just another survival story and it was interesting to see the various groups of humans in how they rebuilt society. There were hints of conflict that are to arise, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out in a future book.
I do like Claire and all the learning she has to do. She is somewhat childlike in everything she doesn't know, especially when it comes to love. Milo is great and I hope he gets more development. I can see Yvain turning into a full on warrior or protector of the people, though will have to wait to see how his story grows.

I very much enjoyed this book. It is highly imaginative and is set in a very compelling world, the history of which only becomes all the more rich as the tale progresses. The stage for the pending sequel is set up in such a way that I am not only eager to read it, but confident that it will be even better than the first; not because this first book was lacking for anything, but because of the tension that is set to be released by all of the opposing forces that are, by the end, on the precipice of collision.

I couldn't put this book down. It was so faced paced and exciting. The characters were so interesting and I am looking forward to the sequel.
