Marry well. Start a family. Make them all proud. What more could you want? Having grown up as the youngest child in an affluent and socially prominent family, Tabatha Martin understands what her parents expect from their only daughter. But the life of a frivolous, high society socialite is the last thing Tabatha wants, and the mounting pressure from her parents for her to marry is quickly becoming unbearable. As the sheriff of Birch River, Donald Ross knows his role and purpose in the world. Yet something is still missing from his life – someone for him to share it with. So, when she expresses her intention to come visit him in Birch River, Donald is hopeful for what it could mean for their future together… If only he can convince her to stay. The Lonely Sheriff’s Mail Order Bride is a charming romance about fighting for what you want most. Can two people from different worlds ever find happiness together? Or will their differences keep Tabatha and Donald apart?
I am a shameless romance addict with no intentions of ever kicking the habit. Growing up I dreamed of entertaining people and taking them on fantastical journeys with my acting abilities, until I came to the realization as a college sophomore that I had none to speak of. Another ten years would pass before I discovered a different means to accomplishing the same dream: writing stories of love and passion for addicts just like me.I have always loved romance stories and I try to tie all the elements I like about them into my writing.
Tabatha Martin is the daughter of socially-conscious, power-driven, wealthy parents. They expect her to marry well and they will choose her husband. She is miserable. Donald Ross is the sheriff of Birch River. With no family, he realizes that his is a lonely life. Seeing the love and success of the pastor’s marriage to a mail-order bride, he decides to give it a try. He received many responses to his letter, none of which peaked his interest until he heard from the debutante. She openly admitted to having led a pampered life and doesn’t know how to cook, clean, sew; anything necessary for a wife in the west. He writes back. I enjoyed seeing the characters again from the first book in the series. The storyline is good, peppered with life lessons. I think I would’ve been able to connect with the characters if there was a different Audible narrator. In my ear her voice sounded monotone without much expression. Her reading seemed stilted and a few times there was little difference between the characters’ voices. And she mispronounced a word here and there. Very disappointing. The book would have a higher rating if not for the narration.
Tabatha Martin is a southern belle from a very wealthy family in Richmond Virginia. Her family ignores her and expects her to marry to enhance their business and financial status, caring less than nothing about her feelings. She writes away to be a mail order bride, answering the ad placed by lonely Sheriff Donald Ross, in Birch River. After they correspond with a couple of very interesting letters, her father tells her that she will marry a wealthy man that is twice her age and very unappealing. She sneaks out of the house late at night after taking money from her father's office, and catches the train headed west. Donald is excited to receive her brief telegram and starts preparations for her arrival. This is the second book in the Birch River Series, and is a fun and interesting story, blending characters that make it even more interesting. There is a lot happening in this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This is book 2 in the series. It can be read as a stand alone book. I know I read this one first because somehow I purchased the first one but never got to read it. I'm going to remedy that before the month is over. Donald is the sheriff of Birch River. He is lonely and placed an ad for a mail order bride. He gets lots of replies but none he liked until he read the letter from Tabatha. Tabatha comes from a high society family where there is certain expectations. The Lonely Sheriff is the second installment in Ameilia Rose’s Birch River Brides series. In it, Ms. Rose chronicles the romantic journey between Tabitha Martin, a mail-order bride, and Donald Ross, the sheriff of Birch River. Tabitha is a high society socialite and debutante from West Virginia. For most of her life, she has been overlooked until the time her father deemed it was advantageous to marry off. She secretly corresponded with Donald Ross. He proposes in his letter and she accepts without telling her parents. On the night her father reveals his plans, she took money from his desk and ran away. The journey takes several weeks and then she meets her intended. Will Tabitha adjust to life in the west? Will Donald be patient with her? Will he found out she took money from her father? To find out, you must read this book.
Ms. Rose does an outstanding job with this riveting western mail-order romance. Her plot line captures the female lead characters courage and determination as well as the challenges and uncertainties presented by their decision to marry. She also demonstrates optimism and hope as she leaves her old life to create a new one. Ms. Rose paints vivid scenes that pull her readers into the story. Through dialog, both conversational and internal monologues, readers glean Tabitha’s courage and determination shine as she tackles challenges and uncertainties.
Complete Opposites! That is what Donald and Tabatha are. She is a high society miss from Richmond Virginia and he is the sheriff of Birch River. What they do have in common is a lonely existence but this changes when they begin writing to each other and because of an impending forced marriage she feels compelled to make a sudden change in her life. It is a really sweet story with both of them trying to make a good life together and a real friendship begins. They have to overcome a few hurdles but they succeed as their love pulls them through to their happy ever after. I read an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book and my review is given voluntarily.
This is a sweet and tiny bit humorous mail order bride love story. Donald is the sheriff, with no family left, and is lonely. Tabatha is a young debutant and even with her parents and four married older brothers she is lonely too. Her parents accept a marriage proposal for her from a much older very rich man and she wants no part of it. She decides being a mail order bride with an unknown husband is better for her that what her parents have lined up for her. She arrives in this normally quiet town to a rash of crimes and gets shot in one of them. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.
This was a great read. A lonely sheriff looking for love and have his own family one day. A young and rich young lady, trapped in a family who are quick to arrange a marriage for her with no love. She is looking and wanting a real marriage and love and the two end up writing to one another and the rest is history, which a bit of surprises. I truly can't wait to read the next book. The only downside was I wish they would of mentioned Missy from the first book of this series. A close knit town series should really let us readers know about the whole town and the characters introduced to us. Just interesting that way.
I enjoy Amelia Rose's novels very much; however, "The Lonely Sheriff's Mail Order Bride" was not up to par. (Spoiler Alerts) The Sheriff was not very smart and did not follow through with his belief. The mail order bride was a thief and did not return her father's money as she should have. The Sheriff was upset she stole her parents money but in the end did not ask her to return it. The story ended with really nothing being resolved. This was a mediocre story at best, leaving the reader feeling disgust with the main characters. I like the author's novels very much and will not let this story stop me from reading more of the her books.
Tabatha Martin was trapped in a rich Virginia family where marrying for money was more important then marrying for love. Her parents are about to set her up with a man 20 years her senior, when she runs off to marry a Wyoming sheriff she met as a mail order bride. She runs away in the night taking some of her father’s money.
Sheriff Donald Ross is handsome and kind as he introduces her to his small town. Having no homemaking skills, the women are eager to teach her. Tabatha gets shots in a robbery, delaying the weddiNg, but ending the crime spree in town.
Book 2 of Amelia Rose's Birch River series tells us the story of the local sheriff whose mail order bride, who runs away from her father forcing her into a marriage that is more wealthy company merger than new loving family relationship.
Clean. Sweet. Can be read in any order.
Birch River Series as of August 2022...not right on Goodreads: 1. The Pastor's Mail Order Surprise 2.The Lonely Sheriff’s Mail Order Bride 3.The Mayor's Stalked Mail Order Bride 4. The Widow’s Mail Order Husband 5. The Doctor’s Mail Order Bride
This is good story about two lonely people. Tabitha's parents are selling her out to an old man, and Tabitha takes the opportunity to escape when she receives a letter from the man she has been corresponding. Donald is the sheriff and it seems when Tabitha comes to town, all these exciting things happen. As Donald and Tabitha come together, they learn that things aren't always easy, but it takes choosing to love to make things work.
Forced to wed! Tabatha was unseen by her affluent, society family; outspoken and having her own dreams wasn't how a "lady," conducted herself. The only solution , her family decided, was to arrange her marriage. However, this didn't sit well with Tabatha who decide to "arrange," her own destiny. That's when things get interesting, including the sudden crime wave! Good, easy western. The Birch River characters are engaging as is the storyline! Enjoyable reading. 3 1/2 stars.
The Lonely Sheriff's Mail Order Bride by Amelia Rose and Kate Whitsby was an interesting read.
There were a few comments throughout the story that came across more like expressions of modern slang that took me out of the story.
For instance, one comment was, "But I won't leave you hanging. If you need an assistant to teach the children, or at least keep them all organized, I'll come and help you. I just hope the pay is good."
I read this book as an ARC. The story line was easy to follow with well written dialogue and character development. I wish the situation with Tabatha’s family had been handled differently. But that’s more personal preference. I felt the ending was rushed and that is the only reason not to give five stars. Overall a well written clean sweet romance with a HEA.
This is an exciting romance that brought 2 of the kindest people together. It was such a delight that they fell in love. They go through some rough times, but things really change when you're about to lose someone. Another interesting, well written clean romance by this author. I received this as an ARC member for my honest opinion.
An enjoyable story with endearing characters and a well developed storyline. Tabatha was being forced into a disastrous marriage by her parents, while Donald is sheriff of a small town feeling lonely without a family. Will two people from such different backgrounds be able to marry and make it work?
This author does something I love besides writes a great story. She lists the characters at the beginning of the book and shows the date at the beginning of the chapters. Love it. This story was a continuation of the Birch River series. I loved the characters and the storyline of this book. I look forward to reading more from this author and this series.
I liked how the lonely sheriff got a feisty outspoken lonely young woman to answer his ad in the paper. It was interesting to see how this young lady who described herself as a debutante was so willing to learn and try to become a bride who the sheriff would love as herself. They both wanted someone who would keep the other from being lonely. Interesting story!
Another winning mail-order bride for Amelia Rose! Tabatha was inspiring the way she took charge and was independent. Donald was the best supportive partner and sheriff. With the challenges they faced separately and together, it made for a quick read. The west had its infamous bandits and hardship. It’s the small town strength that had me hooked. Book gifted to me.
Great read to anyone who enjoys Early American history. I personally love the stories with the Indian culture blending into the modern age of America. Our lives are so much richer and thefilled when we can blend all our lives together.
You take one lonely young woman who dislikes her family wealth. She doesn't want anything to do with that life. You take a lonely Sheriff who wants more from life. He wants a family. He decided on looking into a mail order bride. His ad is noticed by one lonely young lady who is intrigued. They write, they met and the rest falls into place.
A young woman from a wealthy society family is ignored by her family and promised in marriage to a much older man. She leaves in the middle of the night to go west in answer to a mail order bride. Both of them must work together to make the marriage work and find an enduring love.
Tabatha does not want to marry the older man her parents want her to. She answers Donald's mail order bride add. She flees for him in Wyoming after stealing money from her father. This is where the fun begins. You have to read this very well written book to find out if she lives happily ever after.
This was another great story of a lonely sheriff finding happiness through the mail order bride. Tabitha ran away from home after she found out her father was marrying her off to a man twice her age. She arrived in Birch River waiting to meet Donald, the sheriff. Enjoy their story.
Was a great book,, i enjoyed it . Shows what money can do to those who have to much! I was with Donald and wanted to go after her father. ! What a horrible mean .man . You always write such great stories. I always feel I'm in the story 😄😄 love it . Respectively Joyce Lichtwald
A wonderful story that brought tears to my eyes yet had a very happy ending. Tabitha and Donald grew to love each other even though they came from very different backgrounds. I enjoy Ms. Rose’s stories and look forward to the next in this series.
Another wonderful story by Amelia Rose. I enjoy her mail order bride stories because I feel like she understands the fears of both parties, trusting the unknown isn’t easy for either one. This book contains the romance, humor, interesting plots and twists that I expect from this author.
The Lonely Sheriff's Mail Order Bride. From Amelia Rose is a well written clean romance. As always, it's a great story with a lot going on with a beautiful ending. A wonderful book for a few relaxing hours.
Amelia Rose has created yet another successful mail order bride tale. Howard and Tabatha are believable characters who encounter problems and joys as they get to know each other.
As in most of these books I find a enjoyable story. With all the problems in the world right now it is great to be able to sit and get your mind on something relaxing. These books do that. ENJOY !
