Breathe Again is book 6 of the Sons of Sin series and the conclusion to book 5, Shed My Skin, which must be read first.
From International Bestselling author Nola Marie comes a Rockstar romance like you've never seen.
From the flames of sin I rose, by her virtue, I fell...
I found her in my eleventh hour. My whiskey-eyed canary. Quinn .
Call it Fate or destiny or whatever, but she is the melody to calm my madness. With her, the demons inside me quiet. She doesn't have a hold on my heart, she owns it. She is my everything.
I've been given a second-chance and I’m not about to squander it. This time, I’m not fighting to let go. I’ll fight the past, my darkness, and my fear and hold on.
To her, only her, and to our future.
This book is not for the faint of heart. It will tear your heart out and stomp on it before putting it back together. The characters are not perfect and the heroes are flawed. If you’re looking for sunshine and rainbows, I suggest you try another book. But if you want real emotion with a happily ever after, then you’ve found your book.
Mature audiences only. Refer to Nola Marie's author web page/sons-of-sin for full CW.
Louisiana-born and raised Nola Marie loves spicy crawfish, rock music, high drama, and all the glitter, despite being extremely introverted with a severe case of anxiety. As a child, she preferred her imaginary friends to real ones and fiction to reality, a condition that has lingered and grown, and in 2019, she decided to share the voices in her head with the world.
When she's not writing, she can be found with her nose in some other fictional world or having conversations with people no one else can see, but it's okay. She's a writer ;-)
Feel free to find her and yell about her dramatic character through Instagram or Facebook. She loves to hear from you.
4.25 STARS This is part two of Maddox’s story. The previous book “Shed my Skin” left on a big, emotional cliffhanger. This book picks right up where it left off. The characters are shocked and scared, not all are reacting well to the scary uncertainty of Maddox’s situation. Some judgment and bad behavior happens between friends and band mates towards Quinn. It’s very chaotic and emotional for everyone. There are time jumps and they flow well, giving insight slowly to events and feelings that are so important to this heart wrenching and beautiful story and characters. The characters are survivors, they struggle so much and every small victory feels so big. Maddox is so tortured, yet he is the center and glue for his band mates and close friends. Quinn and Maddox are very broken people who truly understand each other as no one else does. They have a beautiful connection and love. The first half is filled with angst, fear and plenty of drama. It’s a big story, I was entertained AND I felt a lot of emotions for and about the characters. Though, I was a bit less emotionally connected in a sense than the previous book, it’s hard to pinpoint honestly. However, it didn’t keep me from enjoying the story. I love the characters, the issues that they have are deep, interesting and important to recognize. I love the way everything slowly unfolds and the “big picture” becomes clearer. It’s a very unique book and characters. I love the way this story played out and was very satisfied with the way it ended. The characters are really one of a kind. They and their story is a bit gritty and dark with light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll definitely be reading more of this new to me author. Her writing style is unique, I haven’t been able to put a name or description to it yet.
My Rating 5 stars ✨ Breath Again is book 2 of the duet for Maddox Masters and Quinn's story. It's book 6 of ( Sons of Sin series) I loved this duet so, so much! Gah tears galore 😭 I was patiently waiting for the conclusion of their story, and it was worth the wait! Thank you for writing a story so raw about mental health, it's really important. This was probably the best books that Nola wrote from the ones I've read so far. Where Shed My Skin was dark, heartbreaking, emotionally complex layered. Breathe Again was a new light, hope, believing in a future, forgiveness, trusting, love, accepting who you are it was so emotional but in a different way so so freaking good. I highly recommend but to get the full impact you should read the series it's awesome. His character is a very complex one, and he has all the right to be who he turned out to be. Quinn is his callming to the raging storm inside his head and body, now that is all changing. He has some work to do still, but I believe in these two, they have a HEA their love is beautiful. I loved seeing the whole crew come together again and be a family. Girl that ending F-EPIC💚 🙌🙌! Can't wait to see what you give us next you are one of my favorite authors.
Thank you for giving me the chance to read these masterpieces of yours. Review was given voluntarily!
Let me tell you, Breathe Again is emotional terrorism at its finest, and I'm still not over it. By the way, you have to read Shed My Skin first as this book picks up from there. Since it is a continuation, I'm not giving the deets away, so you'll just have to read the blurb, and/or read the actual story. Nola Marie is very talented & writes with a realistic touch which is why the story was so emotional for me. It's more like real life with real life struggles that have no pat answers so you've been warned. I won't lie, the supporting cast had me ready to burn things down with the way they treated our big hearted heroine so on top of eye leakage, I got enraged as well. I know, this review is super vague, but why read reviews when you can just experience it for yourselves?! So yeah, grab a box of tissue, and hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Breathe Again is the sixth book in the Sons of Sin series and it's the much anticipated conclusion to Maddox Masters' story. From the beginning of this series, Maddox was a character that stood out to me. He was one that I hoped to get the full story on and what a complex story it is.
Maddox's mind is a dark and cluttered space and he has a lot of demons to contend with if he has any hope of a second chance. Quinn is his calm, but the future that awaits them and any thought of losing her is his biggest fear. This time though, Maddox is determined to hold on and to fight.
At the beginning of this story, I found myself getting frustrated with Quinn and disappointed with some of the characters that I've previously loved. Meanwhile, my heart was breaking for Maddox. As the story progressed, my feelings about Quinn changed too. Although there is a good amount of angst and steam in this book, I didn't feel quite as much emotion here as I did with the first half of Maddox's story. Don't get me wrong, there are some heartbreaking moments here, but none that brought the tears for me this time around. By the end though, I found this to be the perfect ending for this couple.
Oh, and I do have to say that one of my favorite parts of this story was the song lyrics that were woven into it. I wish that Sons of Sin was a real band, because I bet that they would be one of my favorites!
Can they find Maddox in time ? The people who love Maddox are scared and looking for him. Quinn is with them and they might know where he has been. Great characters and storyline Amazing book. Highly recommended. This book deals with mental illness and addiction in such detail, and the people who love them trying to be there for them. The twists and turns in the book are intense. The character development is excellent. Read your trigger warnings. Love this book
WOW. Beyond amazing read. Once I started it , I couldn’t put it down till I finished it . It’s sucks u in from the beginning and keep you going to the end of the book . If I could rate it higher then a 5 I would give it a 10 stars .
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I’m sorry I really didn’t like Maddox’s story part 1 or 2. I actually wondered if there’s something wrong with me because I see so many people giving it 5stars.
I’ll focus on part 2 obviously. The story starts where book one ends, which would have been great if I haven’t had to wait months in between. However with so many characters in this series that continually play a role in each others lives you need to know who’s who.
I wish I was fresh off part 1 when I read it, it would have the book slightly more enjoyable because I was honestly lost for the first few chapters trying to figure out who everyone was.
Unfortunately with my TBR list growing longer by the second I honestly can’t be reading books that I didn’t love twice.
The main reason I didn’t like this book is because the author spent so much time describing Maddox’s mental state in part 1. I really thought part 2 would explore the couples connection and yet here we are talking about both the traumas and how they trauma bonding.
I felt the couple went from 0-100, it came across as f**k buddies who were saying “I love yous” every other chapter and trying there best at domestic life. I would have loved a chapter or two in Ryders POV instead of Bastian. Especially since Ryder and Maddox have come so far.
Overall, my favourite book in the series was Ryder’s story (Book 4) left me in a reading slump was that good & Jake’s story as a close second (Book 3)
Unfortunately, this is another case of an author writing a story then classing it as romance because there are a few sex scenes. I repeat Maddox’s story is not a romance not sure what genre I would class it as but it’s not dark romance at all.
In “Breathe Again” by Nola Marie, Maddox and Quinn’s story picks up where it left off in “Shed My Skin”. I highly recommend reading the latter first in order to have complete picture of the story. I was surprised by the reactions of some in the group as they are made aware of things regarding the couple that they had no knowledge of. Especially my book boyfriend Dane! Nola how could you!?
I can honestly say that I have never read a character more deserving of a happy ending than Maddox Masters. An overall great wrap up for the series and a peek into what is coming. I believe the following quote from Maddox to Quinn sums it up best.
“From the moment our eyes locked, I knew my heart was never really broken. It was incomplete. You were holding all the missing pieces, and it had been waiting to find you”.
I received an ARC copy from the author, and this is my honest review.
"I can't lose you, Quinn. And I'm so fucking terrified if something happens that I will".
I don't even know how to describe what I read or felt while reading it. This book sends you through a gut-wrenching spiral of every emotion possible. A story worthy for the man Maddox Masters and all that he is. I love that the road for him is and will be always slightly bumpy and not clear and straight without any problems. Otherwise, it would not be as real as the story is.
“Maddox won't be alone”, Heaven tells me. “We'll take turns staying with him".
I am and will never be ready to say goodbye to this series. The characters have grown on me so much. I will miss the dialogues and the harsh comments and unfiltered words from Ryder and Maddox. It was perfectly brought to the end of Maddox´ road so far. And, if possible, I loved Quinn more than in the first book. This is no fairytale, thank God, because life isn't so. Some problems will stay with you. That I liked, it is real. I could easily adapt to the thoughts and feelings that Maddox has as well as Quinn has.
“You're in for the long haul, huh?" "I 'm in forever".
And Ryder, yeah, he doesn't beat around the bush. Straight out as always, doesn't matter the circumstances. And it was needed. He took Madsy´s part from his own story. That is a part what their bond is about. Quinn fitted in perfectly in Maddox 's world. Even if it took some time. But she is what he definitely needs, in many ways. I think I sure have forgot to mention some things, but not with intention.
“I can't believe you're here after what I said. After learning how fucked up I am”.
I cried after I finished it, simply because it was over. It shows us that you can get your HEA, but your past can't be erased you have to deal with it, and some issues can't and must not be fixed, for that to happen. They are a part of you, some maybe forever. But that's life.
The love that Quinn and Maddox share, the way they complement each other and the length they go for the other one is special, unique and adorable. Memorable. Forever.
Thank you soo much Nola for sending me your book to read and review.
WOW This is secnd of Maddox's Book and boy was it incredible.
I knew from reading book 1 that Maddox's story would not only be heart breaking and emotional but i could never have imagined just how freaking Amazing this book was.
This book picks up right where Shed My SKin left us. Maddox has been shot and Bastian the rest of the guys and Quinn are all there trying to help the man that holds the glue together, that they all love as part of their family or as the other part of their soul.
Quinn wow I loved her from book 1. Maddox's canary. She is beautiful, intelligent, patient and empathetic. Even in the darkest times in this book when people are screaming shouting not having all the facts or understanding her and Maddox's relationship, she gives them time. Time to calm down, to hear everyone of them out. She went though a lot before her relationship with Maddox but throughout this story she goes through a hell of a lot more. This woman is the most incredible female Character I have ever had the pleasure to read.
Maddox the main man, Th heart and soul of Sons of Sin. He has so many demons that he carries with him. He holds everything inside and tries to deal with it so that he doesn't hurt anyone. he is always there to helps others but this time he needs them even if he doesn't want to admit or accept it. I loved the true growth of the man Maddox becomes in this story. He has to admit to things he never wanted to and face them head on. He truly is magnificent and I just adore the pants off him.
This couple seriously deal withs so much but throughout it is clear that the love and adoration they have for each other is what keeps them both alive and surviving. they need each in ways that neither could of imagined and it was the most amazingly told beautiful story i have ever read.
I seriously thought Shed my Skin was incredible and a work of Art, but this Book is better in ways i could never have imagined.
The passion and the Love, the sorrow, the hurt and pain. You feel ever single thing that is written. I actually don't think there is a good enough adjective to describe this book. It was an absolute pleasure to read and i will be reading this whole series again I am sure especially Maddox's story.
But NOLA WHATS NEXT??? how are you going to top our boy maddox?
My Overall Rating is 5 + 💋💋💋💋💋😍 My Passion Rating is 5 💋💋💋💋💋
Finally Maddox gets his HEA!!! A must read of an emotional journey from tortured soul, to spicy, to heartbreaking, to self acceptance, and HEA!! Captivating and gut wrenching but a beautifully written finale.
This book was the perfect mix of what you need to be completely consumed by the storyline and characters in this book. What can I say other than you need to make sure you are following Nola Marie, because she can give you a intense, gritty, and raw rock star romance that is unlike anything else. If you have any triggers check the TW but if not get ready to finally see what lies ahead for Maddox and his Whiskey eyed canary Quinn in this second part of their story.
If you love complicated, raw, tortured, vulnerable MMC you will inevitably fall in love with Maddox. He's a flawed man who has lived through a lot of tragic incidents that cause him to have a savior complex/white knight syndrome with his friends and family. He takes on others pain and wants to make them happy and whole, but struggles to put himself first or to find his own happiness because he's never sure if he truly deserves it. Tons of twists surround his journey and you will be completely consumed till the very end!
Quinn was a character you finally see step out from her own struggles to help the man who's demons called to her own at times. Yes these two have struggles with past incidents that help them fully understand what the other is plagued by and how to help. They have an instant connection and others seem to think it's just a whirlwind fling, but these two become so much more in this book. Quinn faces a lot of adomositiy from Maddox's friends/band mates but she never lets them take away her love for him. I love that you see these two work through issues and not have it glossed over. Yes you can still expect the hot and spiciness this author brings, but also this emotional and heart wrenching story of two flawed people looking to find their HEA.
I just loved this book and series. You get the dark rock star vibe and heartbreak of the past with a ton of twists to keep you glued till the very end. I highly recommend this book for any reader who just wants an emotional story that is gritty and raw, but gives you some hope for a HEA. This is a Must Read this Year! Nola Marie is a ONE-CLICK author for sure.
Is it really over? Now that I've ugly cried over the thought, let's talk about this book. This is going to be long so...
If you're someone who loves the emotional roller coaster of a good book, binge this series and the River City collection. You will not be disappointed. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
First of all - the playlist… get on it, so brilliant! This book once again pulls at the heart strings from the very beginning. Maddox torment is palpable. This book truly shines a spotlight on mental health and I applaud the writing for this. Although Maddox is surrounded by people who love him, it is that simple for him and he cannot see that love. The fight for each others love is amazing. Although this book was a hard one to read due to the deepness of the storyline, I truly loved this book!
THIS FINAL BOOK IS THE CONCLUSION OF MADDOX AND QUINN'S STORY. LAST BOOK LEFT OFF WITH MADDOX BEING FOUND IN A POOL OF HIS BLOOD BY A GUN SHOT WOUND.
I WAS SAVORING EVERY PART OF THIS STORY. YOU JUST WANT MADDOX TO CARE FOR HIMSELF AS HE CARES FOR ALL THOSE HE LOVES. HIS MIND IS FILLED WITH DISTRESSED, ENRAPTURED AND YET BEAUTIFUL EUPHORIC THOUGHTS. IT JUST MADE ME FALL THAT MUCH MORE IN LOVE WITH MADDOX MASTERS.
QUINN IS THE ONE WOMAN THAT SEES HIM FOR THE BEAUTY HE IS AND JUST MAYBE CAN MAKE HIM BELIEVE IN HIMSELF. THIS SERIES IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST AND ALREADY AM MISSING THE MEN AND LADIES OF SONS OF SIN.
This is Maddox & Quinn's second book. I found her in my eleventh hour. My whiskey-eyed canary. Quinn. Call it Fate or destiny or whatever, but she is the melody to calm my madness. With her, the demons inside me quiet. She doesn't have a hold on my heart, she owns it. She is my everything. An interesting read. And am voluntarily leaving my review.
Gah!!! This book! It's honestly the perfect ending to Sons of Sin and even more for Maddox Masters. The little side character I first met in Violent Life has turned into an epic, larger than life book boyfriend I will ever forget. (A fact he'd probably consider only right lol). But seriously, this book has all the feels. After the devastation of Shed My Skin, it has a certain lightness I, for one, absolutely needed. (Okay, maybe not at the beginning, which picks up where Shed My Skin left off, but later). But it wouldn't be a Nola Marie book if there wasn't just a smidge of darkness, angst, and gut-wrenching, soul-destroying truth. Believe me, there was. And I cried. Pretty sure Nola Marie is the only author capable of making me cry regularly.
Of course, there's also the steam. Lots and lots of steam. As Maddox likes to say, his Quinn is a kinky little freak. And he takes full advantage. Anywhere and everywhere.
I love the relationship between Maddox and Quinn. We enter this book knowing so little about them together, and as their secrets come to light, their emotions become so very apparent. Strong and true. Soul-deep. Neither are perfect. Neither one is the all-powerful rock the other must lean against. They both have demons and moments of weakness, and they both stand up for each other. Each sees the other truly, and loves each other because of the darkness as much as because of the light they both have within their souls.
The only other thing I can say without giving anything away is that, especially for fans of the entire Sons of Sin series, the ending is absolutely perfect.
While reading this it felt like I stopped breathing for a moment cause the hurt and the dark story is so well written.
This has to be one of the best books I've read this year and be sure to read the trigger warnings and also make sure to have plenty of tissues cause you will need them.
I am 100% satisfied with this book! Definitely the closure i needed, the relationships in this book is amazing! Romance and family love is everryyythinggggg
This novel was a very intense emotional read. There was almost every kind of emotion wrung out of you upon getting to know the ensemble cast of characters and all their individual idiosyncrasies. Besides the romance, there was action adventure, suspense and historical mysteries to solve.
Excellent story line and depth of character unraveling.
Breathe Again ripped my heart out and stomped all over it. Then picked it up, whispered sweet apologies into its ear and then delicately sticker it back up one agonizing stick at a time.
There was so much build up to Maddox’s story and Nola absolutely crushed it with his happy ending. I can’t find one single thing wrong with this novel, other than I won’t ever be able to read it for “the first time” again.
Quinn was the absolute perfect match for Maddox and to allow him and her to have their beautiful happily ever after.
Breathe Again by Nola Marie is the 2nd book of her duet of Maddox Master’s story: Part 2 which is the 6th book of the Sons of Sin Rockstar series. Breathe Again is the continuation of Shed My Skin which tells two stories. One story contains all the backstories of the physical and emotional traumas that Madsy dealt with that transformed him into Maddox Masters, the man as well as the famous rockstar. The second storyline in Shed My Skin tells how Maddox is dealing with his present life after his most recent suicide attempt. After going off the deep end in his fragile mental and emotional state; he runs away to figure things out. Shed My Skin book comes to an end with him taking drugs, drinking, writing out his life story, and goodbye letters, him bleeding from a gunshot wound. Breathe Again begins with Maddox coming back from near dying again when found by his friends and family. The road to recovery is rough but with his love, Quinn by his side, he learns he wants to try to live, even with the demons that torment him. There are twists, turns, and surprises throughout the story. I cried, I wanted to punch some of the characters and hug others. I read to the last page, but I did not want the story to come to an end. Out of all the characters written by Nola Marie, (I loved all of them) Maddox holds my heart! I will never forget him and always want updates. Nola Marie is the “Queen of Rockstar Romance” out of all the other known rockstar authors as she is able to wring out a story of brokenness and turn all the broken pieces into a beautiful, even if flawed life of a man known as Maddox Master who learned he could “breathe again”. Nola Marie only writes masterpieces! Breathe Again is only her most recent written masterpiece.
I need to start off by saying you need to read Shed My Skin which is the first book in this duet about Maddox and believe me that book was a five-star read as well. In Breathe Again we see this emotional story with Maddox trying to put his life back together again. With Quinn by his side I could only pray that this man would want to choose life. The journey through darkness can be deadly or having you try to live again on terms you can deal with.
What a wonderfully emotional story that made this book one I couldn’t put down. With the Sons of Sin coming to an end I can’t wait to see what this author can serve us next. I know, I for one, will be there front and center.
Wow this was a heartbreaking beautiful and emotional story full of all the angst and drama I love in a rockstar romance story! Nola Marie is a new to me author and I’m so glad I discovered her I will definitely be going back and reading all the other books having just read Maddox and Quinn’s books Shed My Skin and this one I was able to follow along with their story without reading the others first but I’m so excited to read them I absolutely loved a lot of the characters in this series and I can’t wait to read their stories! This was definitely another gem I found!

Part two of Maddox and Quinns story, maddax has a lot of healing to do going forward but it's not smooth sailing with termoil all around Quinn is left to keep the pieces together but who will be there for her? Well written the story has depth, desires emotion, hard themes and more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This took a lot to get through as some touched base, but a good story. Touching romance. Only wish I knew who died that they were talking about and went to the funeral, no names.
I am absolutely in love with Maddox and Quinn. I loved this book so much! I could not put it down. So many emotions reading this book. I am so glad that all of the Sons of Sin got their HEA. This book was so beautifully written and an incredible story. It fits the incredible character of Maddox Masters. As sad as I am to see the series end, this was a perfect ending!
Wow wow wow!!!! I waited for this book for so long, and it was so worth it. This is not your average fairytale, it is real, raw, and honest. So many people suffer with mental health issues, and this book doesn’t shy away or sugarcoat it. All of the pain he carried that he hid behind his smile was heartbreaking. Maddox has been one of my favorites since the first book in this series. He is such a beautiful broken soul. I Loved Quinn. Maddox and Quinn didn’t have it easy but they loved each other and held each other up. He had to figure out that he was worth fighting for and she was there every step of the way. He had so many people that loved him. I have always loved the relationship between he and Ryder, I loved how he was front and center and fighting for Maddox. I am so thankful that he got the hea he so deserved .I can’t wait to get glimpses of them in future books.
