Tropes:
- age gap (7yrs)
- bodyguard romance
- forced proximity
- suspense
- one bed
- slow burn

POV: first person - dual (prologue is in 3rd person)

Type: stand-alone

After the eldest son of the most notorious crime family in Portugal is killed, a price is put on the head of the man who committed the crime. Now Milena has to deal with the consequences of her father’s actions. Her life is turned upside and the person in charge of ensuring her safety is all she has left until all threats are eliminated. But Vincenzo has another thing coming if he expects Milena to follow his orders without giving him a hard time in the process.

Right from the beginning I really struggled to get into this. Maybe it’s a me thing but I really don’t like long paragraphs and this book consisted of very long paragraphs.

My biggest issue was the heroine acting immature. She’s a 23 year old adult in a life/death situation and was acting like a child. The amount of times she rolled her eyes was unbearable. If one were to take a shot every time she rolled her eyes they would be more drunk than she would get.

Because this was slow burn (too slow), we never really got to see them as a couple. The dynamic never really shifted from protector/ward to lovers until the very very end.

The jump from the last chapter to the epilogue was quite abrupt. In my brutally honest opinion, it didn’t feel like a genuine HEA. Yes, they do end up together but not until the epilogue (which was short, to say the least).

*There is some dialogue in various languages that are not translated. I didn’t have trouble with it since I understand Spanish, which is similar to Portuguese, but it might be difficult for others.*

If you are looking for a small age gap (7 years) bodyguard romance with tropes like forced proximity, one bed, very slow burn then this book is for you.

This was my first Dominique Wolf book and I was not dissapointed. While I usually go for young adult books, every now and then I pick up a new adult like this one. Filled with turns, plot twist, sweet romance, and a happy ending, I loved every second of this book.

The pace was perfect and the tension building up between the characters is amazing. It has a little enemies to lovers too.

I can not wait to read Dominiques other books!

4.5*

I finished this at like 1 am the other day and let me tell you this book has EVERYTHING. Like the list is just never ending we have nightmare trope, hurt comfort, "we shouldn't do this" trope, one bed trope, forced proximity, betrayal, different language nickname trope, the headboard trope 😏iykyk, enemies to lovers, wound cleaning, "im here to protect you" and bodyguard trope, LITERALLY EVERYTHING. Theres so so so much more.

Although I wish we had more of the two as a couple towards the end, I felt like the ending was a bit rushed and I wouldn’t have minded a few more chapters.

I definitely see myself coming to reread this book again, it just has so much of stuff that I love that I would consider this the newest addition to my comfort reads. I highly recommend this book for reading slumps as well, It contains the perfect pace and it got me out of a semi-reading slump.

I knew this book was going to be from the minute I learned the main characters names were Vincenzo and Milena and then I learned it was a dual POV body guard romance and I was ready to risk it all for this book before even opening it. Add to that the forced proximity, age gap, forbidden romance and touch her and I kill you with banter and tension between these two and you will be in love. Dominique wrote a badass female MC and the character development of Milena made my heart break for her and I couldn’t turn my pages fast enough to see how she was going to grow. After reading this book I’m even more convinced everyone should have their own body guard, famous or not, just to live out this fantasy and I would love to specifically request Vincenzo for ALL the services he provided in this book!

Bodyguard and mafia romance? say less
I really enjoyed the book, the bodyguard trope is one of my favorite tropes ever and I loved following the tension between the two main characters.

Milena is a strong but also stubborn woman.
I'm honest sometimes I really could have punched her because she put herself in unnecessary danger.
However, I learned to liked her more and more as the book progressed.
To see her past, explained a lot of her behavior and made me understand her even more.

Vincenzo on the other hand is hot, sporty, progressive and a bodyguard!!
He would do literally anything for his loved ones and started his job in the beginning just for his grandma due to lack of money.
He really has a heart of gold!!

The tension between them both was literally perfect.
The one bed trope also brought a lot of tension and charging to both sides.
I had a lot of gasping and shopping moments.
Vennie would do anything for Milena and Milena anything for Vincenzo.
Watching them botg fallin in love with each other was really heartwarming and I especially enjoyed that both had a development during their time together.

One thing i wished that would be different:
However, I would have wished that the Spanish words would be translated, as I understood almost none Spanish word.
I would have also wished for more details in the epilogue because in my opinion some detalils were left out.
All in all i really enjoyed the book and loved how it made me feel so many different emotions at once.

I honestly barely have words to be able to describe how much I enjoyed this book. The sexual tension was HEAVY, but boy did she really deliver with the spice scenes! I thought the pacing was wonderful, and I was on the edge of my seat for the last couple chapters! I thought she did so good with this story! So many good tropes, and quotes and ugh it was just such a good read! I’m so glad I was apart of her ARC team and I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy!

thank you to Grey's Promos and Dominique Wolf for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Guarded follows Milena Neves, a notorious party girl, and Vincenzo De Rossi, her newly hired bodyguard. After an altercation between Milena's father and one of the biggest mafia families in Europe, Milena and Vincenzo are forced to outrun her death sentence while keeping their feelings for one another at bay.

first off, let me just list all of my favorite tropes in this book:
-one bed trope
-dual pov
-forced proximity
-forbidden love
-"touch her and i'll kill you" (*swoons*)

i absolutely loved how action-packed the plot was, it was actually not as unpredictable as i was expecting. that being said, the writing style is what put me off. it was too simple and almost wattpad-ish?? for a published book in my opinion. the characters kept repeating their thoughts in short sentences, just wording them differently. it was almost robotic at some points which made their feelings lose the intended depth and passion. i did devour this book in less than a day because i loved Milena and Enzo's dynamic, and i was dying to know where Milena would end up. i liked that Milena wasn't your typical "not-like-other-girls", and how confident she was with her sexuality. however, i do wish she wasn't so childish at some points because i do expect a 23-year-old to make more rational decisions than the ones she made when her LIFE is on the line.

if you've enjoyed action-packed mafia books on wattpad, then you'll LOVE this one! i definitely recommend picking this up when it comes out !

Tropes:
Bodyguard
One bed trope
"touch her & I'll kill you"
Forced Proximity

Dual POV (My personal favourite)

I wanted so badly to love this book, but it fell short for me.

Firstly, Milena was one of the most infuriating FMCs I'v ever encountered.
She was so childish/immature & I found myself getting annoyed at her a lot (especially during the 1st ACT). Considering she was the FMC, I almost feel bad for really disliking her throughout most of the book 🙈

While it did take a while for the MCs to get together 🥵... when they did, it was HOT!

I loved that the book was filled with plot. And as for that plot twist Enzo didn't see coming... It was just perfect! I'm usually really good at seeing those sorts of twists coming along, but I really didn't see it coming at all!

Overall, it was an enjoyable read, but I did find myself frustrated at times, which lead to me feeling like I was pushing through the read.

I was asked to give my honest review on this books and I most certainly will.

First of all the bodyguard trope is growing on me book by book and I think Guarded was the book that hit me hard I love that it was featured with some mafia trope but Melina’s family weren’t the big dog mafia family. They went through a lot and tried to survive as a family. Seeing how it all started with her father making a mistake and leading it to her being on the run was an absolutely amazing idea.

Vincenzo is my favourite fictional bodyguard (I’m sorry Rhys Larsen 😬) but it had to be said because the emotions that Vincenzo was facing is exactly what I wanted from this book. What Dominic Wolf did by being able to portray Vincenzo’s emotions correctly is pure genius. I can’t truly tell you I was so attached to the characters my heartaches when they faced road blocks in their relationship.

Ok spice level ummm is like HOT hot
🌶🌶🌶🌶/5
That’s how good it was
It’s definitely not a one bed trope (thank god)
But the tension and the slow burn of a build up between Melina and Vincenzo is phenomenal. It had me in my feels. Just the close proximity and him protecting her and doing way more than that 😩.

The reason I gave it 4 ⭐️ is because maybe I’m craving a book 2 and need more of Melina and Vincenzo I don’t think I got enough of them together and need that extra few chapters of them together and what their future holds.

Definitely a must read if are looking for:
Bodyguard trope
Banter
Forced proximity
Strong women
Age gap
Love interest falls first
‘No one else is going to touch you’ trope
And of course pure smut

This is what Darkest Temptation by Danielle Lori thought it was doing but failed because this book captured Mafia forbidden romance really well!

A mafia dark romance, slow burn, enemies to lovers book that captured me from the very beginning. I wasn’t as invested in the characters but still really enjoyed it! A very fast paced easy to consume book.

Trope Check:
One Bed ✔️
Forced Proximity ✔️
Bodyguard ✔️

Vincenzo’s job is to keep Melina safe and bring her to reunite with her family, but she doesn’t make it easy on him. Following directions is not her strong suit. While he finds her frustrating and difficult he slowing begins to see another side to Milena. One she keeps hidden from everyone.

Milena is a stubborn, opinionated Portuguese woman who is now having to live a life on the run while taking orders from her devastatingly handsome tattoo’d Italian bodyguard. Did I mention he also has dimples? 😮‍💨

Together they bring out the best in one another and soon they are not only fighting for survival but for love.

The tension between them was as delicious as a Pastel de nata. I want my own Vincenzo now, please and thank you 🥵

First off the book starts off with a playlist of songs and you can’t go wrong there.

I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish, if you a lover of any of these tropes….
- enemies to lover
- one bed
- alpha protector
- romantic suspense
You need to read this book!

Milena is home from the summer from school to see her parents. Dark long hair, brown eyes, and a attitude to drive you crazy. She protects herself from the pain of loss by putting up walls. When her father does something horrible she is forced in a situation that breaks down those rules while falling for her protector.

Vincenzo is tall dark Italian with tattoos and a beard, but inside he can be teddy bear. He is assigned to protect Milena who fights him at every turn. Things change when they are forced on the run and feels happen.

This book is full of action and twists that you don’t see coming. It’s a slow burn romance that turns up the spice. The main characters have so much detail in them you feel everything.

“All of this would be so much easier if I did hate you, Milena but I’m incapable of that.”

Love love lovedddd this book, took longer than usual but first time reading on a kindle.
Some of the best tropes, one bed, forced proximity, slow burn I’m a sucker for the build up of tension. What a badass female character also Milena never backs down especially not with her stubbornness. A bodyguard romance is always great but Vincenzo is next level protecter, he’d kill for Milena and that’s what he did, anything to keep his tesorina safe.

Where do I begin, I've read all of  dominique wolf  books and let me tell you guarded is my favorite.  This book is different from dominique wolf's other books. Once I had this ARC book I literally couldn't stop reading it, I wanted to learning and read everything about both characters, I got so hooked on this book and finsihed in almost a day. She given us something different then her normal writing style. And queen you did amazing this book is everything. There's so many things I could say about this book. But I'm just gonna keep it short.

I'm just gonna say that Vincenzo de Rossi will forever be in my heart. Both characters are so well developed from the action, to the love, the sex to even the hate they have for each other.

If you love
• enemies to lovers
• bodyguard
•one bed trope
• slow burn
• touch her and I will kill you
This book is for you!!

Milena is home for summer  from school.  she came back home to see her parents.

she beautiful with dark long hair and brown eyes with a personality that will drive you insane.
Milena grew up losing her twin sister though cancer.she started to protect herself from the pain by putting up walls, not having closes relationships with her parents or friends anymore. Melina was reckless not acting as her usual self. She was a girl who was out of control. But When her father was focused to do something that's ended up putting his family in danger, he had no choice but to get her protection ( a bodyguard) but the situation changes when she starts falling for her him, and started letting him in on everything about her life.

Vincenzo De Rossi tall dark Italian with alot of tattoos including a back tattoo of a lion who he believes would symbolize  being strong and bravery. He lost his parents at 8 years old in a car accident that forced him to live with his grandparents. His grandmother  made him learn different languages. His also dominant and possessive over melina he soon realize despite her craziness,  his started to fall for her as well. The chemistry between these two with so much of tension in the beginning to Milena constantly pushing Vincenzo’s buttons as a form of entertainment for herself. She wild and would do anything eventhough she has a target on her back. One thing I love about them both is when they started to open up about each other about their fears and past.

I also loved that no matter what happened to him or her he made a promise to find her. And he did!! After only knowing her for so little time, he knew her better then herself, she trusted him with her life even though he could of betrayed her like his co-worker had betrayed them. But he didn't his ever last ounce of love was all for melina.
He promised that he will kill those to make the world a safest places for.
But did he?
Yes he did,
And he will always keep her from danger.

I highly recommend this book 5/5 ⭐
So gonna read this again once I get it in paperback cause I love melina and Vincenzo story. I look forward to reading more of dominique wolf books.

This is an honest ARC review and I hope that everyone who reads this understand that this is my review with my own description of the book.

Coming back from London was something she didn’t want to do. But because of her fathers actions, Milena Neves has to suffer now. She has to go on a run. Her father hires a bodyguard Vincenzo De Rossi (AKA the sexiest man alive), Enzo has one thing to do and that’s keep Milena safe and alive. But when they are forced to be together with this tension like no other what can you do? They both have to the new norm, but with that how to find a way not to give in to this attraction.

Enzo had no idea that Milena has been this infuriating nor could he have guessed the attraction. He assigned to protect her but what he wants to do is more than that. She unfolds him in a way no one else does, she pushes his buttons like no other. This is the first girl, that gets under his skin, that taunts him, talks back, flirts back and he wants nothing more but become her undoing.

Milena suffered through a lot, the pain and grief she has, well she has dealed with it properly. Because of that her walls are so up she asks no one for help, she is stubborn and strong minded. She is the type of girl who wants danger, adventure and just wants everything to go back to how it was. Before the trauma, before the damage and before she lost a part of her soul. She is someone who is guarded no one can get it, but it takes one to know one right. Enzo is also guarded. Will they be able to stay guarded or will they be able to break the line?

They both felt this attraction, they don’t know what to do because they have never felt this way for anyone.

She pushes him, but he tries to pull away. Is the tension strong enough or is his willpower stronger?

Honestly this book is had everything, the action, the tension, the I want to do this but I can’t, the I need to protect her but I want to get under as well. The twist after twist, the reason why Milena and Enzo are as guarded as they really are. I loved it so much and I love them so much. Milena went through so much, like this girl all she deserves the world and all she wants to be loved. She is lost in the midst of this all, can she be found again. They both feel so much in so little time. This book was needed honestly, I related to Milena and Enzo.

⚠️ SPOILER ⚠️

The dedication is beautiful

“To all the women in my family that have taught me what it means to be strong and independent. If you’re reading this, it’s time to close the book now. If you don’t, enter at your own risk, and we will not be talking about this at family gatherings.”

This hit me like I loved it as soon as I read that dedication. I needed this book, I related to both of them, on how guarded they were. This quote got me

“You can be surrounded by plenty of people and still feel completely alone. I knew that because I had been living the same way. Distant. Guarded in an attempt to shelter myself from anything that could cause me pain again.”

I related to this so much, like this is exactly how I feel everyday in my life. I low-key cried when I read that bit because I felt that paragraph, I felt it so deeply I didn’t know what to do. I love Dominique for writing that paragraph , it is something that will always be in my mind. I finish this book a couple of days ago and I can’t get it out of head. This book was needed and I’m so glad I got this arc.

Milena Neves is tenacious, infuriating, and hides her sadness and anger behind her sarcasm and witty comebacks. When her father puts her in danger, she is forced to run for her life with a sexy, domineering bodyguard who gets on her last nerve. He's the only person in her life right now and the more she learns about him, the more she wants to know about the man behind the tightly controlled facade.

Vincenzo "Enzo" DeRossi is cool, regimented, and promises to protect the challenging and aggravating woman who knows how to push his buttons. Unfortunately, her flirtatious ways are causing more challenges than he expected.

Milena and Enzo are so much alike with their cold demeanors and controlled emotions. They both stay away from relationships and they have never encountered anyone like each other. However, temptation and forced proximity are their downfall as their attraction grows and their walls are torn down. I have to give it to Enzo for holding out as long as he did. He tried to keep it professional, but the heart and body know what they want. Bodyguard Enzo is formidable, but sexy man Enzo is delectable. Milena's mouth gets her in more trouble than not, but she does it to cover up her hurt and grief over her dead sister.  Enzo hides his emotions too because of his losses. Another shared trait between them. Their verbal sparring is funny as well as sexy and when they let go of that tension, it's hot. I love Enzo's innate protective streak as he will give up his life to keep Milena safe. His frustration at people underestimating what he will do has some dark humor to it.  I love Milena's strength through so much trauma, and though she's reckless with her behavior, she is fierce when she is crossed.

Notable supporting characters include Milena's father who makes a grave mistake, but with good intentions, and of course, the villains who make a small appearance at the end.

The story is non-stop action from beginning to end and I couldn't put it down. There are twists and turns as well as anguished love that make a great romantic suspense.

Thank you to Ms. Wolf for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Do you like, the bodyguard trope, slow burn romance, forced proximity, “touch her and I’ll kill you” vibes, and of course… THE ONE BED TROPE?!…. Then look no further because, this book by Dominique Wolf is the one you’ll want to read!

This story centered on Milena and Vincenzo. Two people from two different backgrounds, yet they somehow found themselves forced together by unconventional matters. In other words, Vincenzo was Milena’s bodyguard a.k.a. Her protector since Milena had to go into hiding due to something or more like someone trying to go after her. Vincenzo was a man on a mission, he did everything possible in order to keep Milena safe. I love a protective man, especially when said man gets a bit possessive/ jealous at the thought of the woman he’s protecting ending up with another man! OMG!

Vincenzo and Milena’s chemistry was clear as day through their witty banter and of course Milena constantly pushing Vincenzo’s buttons as a form of entertainment for her. For all the snarky and funny remarks Milena made towards Vincenzo, he never backed down. Vincenzo constantly challenged Milena and for Milena that wasn’t something she was use to, someone standing toe to toe with her. The thing I loved the most about Milena and Vincenzo aside from their sizzling, passionate romance was the way they were able to open up to one another about their past, their fears, and more. The character growth was good, especially with Milena since in the beginning she seemed more focused on trying to block out certain parts of her past that gravely changed her life as well as her parents. This story had a great mixture of everything from humor, banter, emotional moments, growth, a bit of action, romance, and loveable characters.

One thing I think readers will enjoy about this story is that it’s different from Dominique’s previous books in the sense that we see different types of characters and with the whole idea of mafia men coming after Milena, it adds to the suspense and action of the story. I absolutely devoured it in two days, and I want to re read it again because I love Milena and Vincenzo.

I really don’t know where to start with this review for this book.

It was a really great enemies to lovers, push and pull relationship seeing as how Vincenzo, the bodyguard, held himself to a high standard of not wanting to sleep with the client who in this case is Milena.

The book starts off with Melina‘s father having a conversation with the son of the drug lord who is “borrowing” his hotel for business, heavy emphasis on the word borrowing. One thing leads to another and the father shoots the son, ending him which leads to a chain reaction of the drug lords men trying to capture the father and his family and finish them off like they did to his son.

This book was really good. I enjoyed seeing a female main character who isn’t a push over but sometimes she did get on my nerves with the stupid shit she did simply just to piss people off. I feel like the book would’ve been better if she hadn’t tried to run like a wild goose going after a person kicked them in the ankle.

The relationship is close proximity which I really did enjoy. I don’t read much of that trope but when I do it’s really nice to see two people who are fighting their emotions but no they have no chance against it.

When they do give in to each other, ITS HOT. V DOES NOT PLAY when he’s getting down😜.

On the third act conflict hit, I was in a loop. You really never knew what was gonna happen next and then when what happened happened I literally balled my eyes out.

Overall this book with a solid read and I definitely recommend it to anybody who likes bodyguard romances with spicy tension stubborn heroins and big bad men who protect them.

I kid you not this book had me staying till 12pm when I should have been asleep at 9 for school, I literally could not put it down, I just HAD to know what was going to happen next. I do got to say that I could till that wolfs writing was a bit different compared to her first books but I’m not complaining whatsoever. I really enjoyed seeing how the plot played out!! I literally wished it was longer!! And I’m so proud of Wolf honestly <3
➝(Melina) While reading I felt like she was really relatable, having gone through so much she literally deserves the world. I felt like she just needed someone who saw her and who would listen to her and just understand her. She was just really strong for someone who was in a very serious situation.
➝(Vincenzo) Hehe this man OMG!!! He would LITERALLY kill someone for Melina, I’m so in love with this man. Like ahh, even though he was an asshole at times he had his reasons. But just the way he could do ANYTHING for Milena and the way he cared for her even though he won’t admit it. I wished I could quote some of the things he said but I don’t want to spoil it just READ IT!!

Vincenzo/ Enzo & Melina love story is a tense, dangerous, force proximity and very steamy scenes. OH ! and the banter is brillaint and it breaks up the tense storyline too so you have a bit of a relief from all that suspenseful scenes...no spoilers

I love teh 2 opening I love the 2 opening chapters cause is set up the two world's brilliantly we have got one which is full of privileges and another badass security unit who is hired to protect the family. Vincenzo hired to protect Melina and its doesn't start out too well...no spoilers

Melina is a stubborn and childish heroine but she redeems herself with her bravery. She is not afraid to stand up for herself and also escape a car in middle of traffic! My heart breaks for her too especially over her late twin sister and I would become a stubborn ass too IF I lost my sister.

"It's like burying a piece of your soul."

Vincenzo is a complex HOT hero who has a interesting family tree. He knows how to protect people from danger & keep them safe until the danger is over...when Melina is involved that becomes a different matter...no spoilers

You will see these two go through some very tense moments and they grow to love each other & their character development is perfect especially for Melina...no spoilers

Guarded is the first book I have read by Dominique Wolf. It is a standalone story about Milena Neves and Vincenzo ‘Enzo’ De Rossi. An action-packed age gap, forced proximity, slow burn, bodyguard romance.

When Joao Neves made a deal with Duarte Nazario, the head of a Portuguese organised crime family, he never thought he was putting his family’s lives in danger. Over the years Duarte had been pushing the boundaries and making life unbearable for Joao and his hotel. He tries to negotiate better terms with Duarte’s son Antonio but when things take an unexpected turn the Neves family find themselves running for their lives. Joao quickly assigns Vincenzo as body guard to his daughter Milena, when the hit is ordered on the family.

Five years ago Milena suffered a couple of traumas and hasn’t dealt with her grief in a healthy way. She avoids dealing with all the anger and sadness caused. Her relationship with her parents is strained and she has become very independent. She is very defensive, extremely stubborn and refuses any help. Leaving London, she has come home for the holidays so is furious when her life is turned upside down by her father’s actions.

Vincenzo is a serious and brooding bodyguard from Italy. He is employed to protect her, keep her safe and alive but finds her defiant and infuriating. He never anticipated being attracted to Milena.
There is so much tension between them as neither have ever been affected by anyone like this before. They have both lost so much and hide behind a cold, hard demeanour, not showing any emotions. He challenges her unlike anyone else so she always has a sarcastic response and loves pushing his buttons. She doesn’t respond well to orders and feels Enzo is obnoxious and domineering, plus she hates how he tries to control her.

He tries so hard to resist her and as much as she pushes him, he won’t cross the line. She knows they have a connection and she taunts him with her sexual innuendos and flirting. He has never wanted anything more in his life but is terrified as she makes him feel things. Their circumstances couldn’t be worse and they both know it isn’t going to end well as they are constantly on the run and he can’t give her what she wants. They end up fighting for both their love and their lives.

It was fun following their antics as they try to keep one step ahead of her enemies. I liked his determination to do his job but I was frustrated at how childish she was at times. I wanted to shake her until she acknowledged the danger she was in. She goes on about wanting to know what is happening then freaks out when reality enters the bubble Enzo has created for them to keep her safe. The banter between them is so amusing and watch out for a brilliant boxing scene.
There is a good twist near the end which affects them both and the ending is sweet as he fulfils his promises to her. Would have liked a little bit more of them in an actual relationship to just complete their story. Overall an enjoyable read.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!

I loved this book as much as I loved her "More Than" series if not maybe more.
This book has everything. Vincenzo and Milena are my new favourite book couple.

This book follows a normal family that has been through and seen so much loss. They get involved in a notorious crime families business and things go horribly wrong that they have to go on the run.

Their only daughter Melina has a Bodyguard to keep her safe.. Vincenzo.

She is defiant and hell bent on not following instructions, they find themselves in some sticky situations, in the first few chapters they are in a high speed chase and they are being shot at.

Dominique has out done herself with this book. The tension between Melina and Vincenzo is crazy. I loved the dual POV it just made both of them so relatable. I laughed and cried in this book it is really an emotional rollercoaster from the beginning to the end. But overall I loved this book and will be buying the physical copy when it comes out.
