Their vacation quickly turns into another mystery when one of the guests of the hotel ends up dead. To save their friend Bunty’s business, the two queens decide to investigate the crime themselves, but they have put themselves into a dangerous situation once again.
Do you love Agatha Christie and Knives Out?! If so, you have found your next series. Even though there are only two books so far, I'm hoping for a third soon! As much as I liked the first book, All Hail the Queen, I loved this one even more! I cannot get enough of Autumn and Cookie, as well as so many of the other characters. Stephanie knows how to perfectly craft a mystery with a lot of interesting characters without making it too hard to keep track of them all. They are distinct enough to be able to differentiate them, and they had layers that made it possible to accuse any of them at any time. She also clearly did excellent research about the island of Bonaire, and is very well reversed in drag slang. It felt like the book was written by a drag queen! I laughed out loud too many times to count! Lastly, the ending was brilliantly executed, with everything tying together perfectly.
Not only did I love this book, but I also want to shout out Stephanie as a person! She is a local author to Madison, Wisconsin and I have had the opportunity over the last year to get to know her through the local drag scene that we are both major fans of. She deserves to have her books read more widely, so go buy her books online, or request your local library buy a copy!
For me, a great mystery has to have an amazing story, great main characters, as well as supporting characters. This book has it all. The ending has left me wanting more.
I must say that when it comes to the main characters, Cookie and Autumn, they very much remind me of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. An incredible duo with way better fashion sense. They have this chemistry that goes perfectly together, and Cookie is such a southern charmer.
It is a very well-written book from beginning to end and should be on everyone's reading list.
