No Coming Back: Cross Creek Ranch

Rate this book
Don’t have a one-night stand in a small town.
Not unless you’re real comfortable facing down your bad decisions in the daylight.

It’s a lesson Amelie Gable learned the hard way.
Which was turning out to be a recurring theme in her life since it was a string of hard lessons that led to her falling into bed with the first blue-eyed cowboy that said, yes ma’am to her.
Spending the night with Troy seemed like a great idea at the time. He was charming and handsome and clearly up on his anatomy lessons.
Sending him on his way the next morning was harder than it should have been.
But it was still easier than finding him shoveling her Grandma Muriel’s front sidewalk, putting a heart-stopping face to the mystery man who’d been helping her grandmother out.
Now she has to pretend like he hasn’t seen and touched every inch of her skin.
That she doesn’t desperately want him to do it all over again.
But staying in Montana was never the plan. She has hopes. Dreams. Aspirations.
And unlike her mother and grandmother, she won’t let a man get in the way of them.

I was pretty happy with this little book. I say this because the last few in this series have been really lacklustre and read almost like the author didn’t really want to write the story. But this review isn’t about those books, so I will discuss why this book actually worked for me.
It was a fairly straightforward small town romance. Big city girl moves to small Montana town to take care of her grandmother after a bad breakup. She has a one night stand with a hot cowboy with abandonment issues who ends up being her grandmother’s handyman/friend.
Cue them sneaking around behind grandma’s back as they try to renovate her house and make it livable again. This is a standard formula for contemporary small town romance. Meet cute, conflict, forced proximity, personal issues keeping them from trusting each other (her ex cheated, his father and mother abandoned him), third act break up, pep talk by best friends/family, apology/feelings revealed, hea. Yes this was not original at all, but for once this author finally put together all the components of a romance in one book. She didn’t leave out the meeting, bail on the conflict or lose direction mid plot, as she did in the last few I’ve read. So I dunno if she got a new editor (her writing style was also a lot less choppy and obvi story planning and pacing were better) or if she took her time with this (it was launched two months behind schedule). But whatever she did, she needs to keep doing it.
Her heroine was strong and sweet and did everything right. Her hero was a bit broken and desperate but cute and sexy. He gave golden retriever vibes which is what I’m into for 2023. The side characters were great, including some cameos and her funny ott grandmother and her crew of old ladies (the bridge bitches).
So a very cute read by an author I was this 🤏 close to giving up on due to shitty execution and boring plots. She’s always given great female leads, which I like and is somewhat rare, unfortunately. So glad I stuck it out and read this one, I wasn’t going to.
I’m a hard person to win back once I’ve been bored or disappointed, so we will count this simple book as a win. Check it out as an easy read or palate cleanser.

What can go wrong with a story that has a hot cowboy, an independent heroine and a granny gang? Nothing! Author, Janice Whiteaker has once again brought us a book that combines all of these and more in her new book, No Coming Back, the sixth book in the Cowboys of Moss Creek series. Troy is the ultimate “good ole country cowboy” and Amelie is the independent artist from New York. But, when the two meet they are the perfect combination. Both of their back stories will make you cry and laugh and want their HEA. All through the book you will also love Amelie’s grandma and her “Bridge Bitches” who are hysterical and make you crave more of their antics. Ms. Whiteaker has also brought in hidden references to some of her other books that I found amazing (don’t worry, if you haven’t read any of her other books, it is not make or break; just funnier if you have. And, if you haven’t, why not?). You will fall in love with Troy and Amelie’s story and the side characters and won’t want the book to end. It will leave you asking, which characters are next to get their own book? Well done, Ms. Whiteaker, well done.

Book six in the series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in third person from an alternating dual POV.
Troy won me over in a big way. He is a flirt who is looking forever. He has insecurities and a little bit of an abandonment issue. He is charming, kind, hot, strong, and absolutely a perfect hero. Amelie is in Montana to start over after the life she built in NYC imploded. Who better to help her cleanse her palate than the hot cowboy she meets in a bar. And boy does he ever burn away her past with their hot one-night stand. Both are shocked when they meet again at her grandmother’s house just a short time later.
Her grandma and all of the older ladies in this book are a riot. The small town of Moss Creek is a special place full of people unlike any Troy or Amelie have known before. Circumstances keep Troy and Amelie in close proximity and their chemistry cannot be contained. Amelie can’t believe Troy is real: he is too good to be true. But once they both share their insecurities, they realize they have more in common than they expected. Heat, romance, friendship, and some funny moments make up this story. Troy and Amelie accept and heal each other’s hurts from the past and find their happy ending. I love it when a couple helps each other grow and heal. More emotional than I expected, this book was a real treat to read.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

I absolutely loved this book! I fell in love with Troy and wanted to wrap him up and take him home with me. But he and Amelie together are too perfect. Both are broken and in need of family and unconditional love. He’s a ranch hand and she is an artist who’s left her cheating ex and career in New York. He’s a flirt and desperate to find someone who won’t leave him. She’s insecure, is definitely NOT STUBBORN and feels guilty her grandmother supported her and alienated her children in doing so. There is also a grandmother/adopted grandmother who is outrageous. She keeps everyone laughing and scared what will come out of her mouth next. This book is hilarious and heartbreaking and steamy. This one is part of a series but can definitely be read as a standalone. That’s what I did and now I’m going to have to go read the other books. Enjoy!

Yay. Bacon boy has arrived.

Yay. Bacon boy has arrived.

Absolutely loved Troy and Amelie’s book, it has all the feels and is so damn hot 😏

Both are so insecure, you just want wrap them up and love them.

Troy is everything you expect from the Cross Creek Cowboy family. Ever the gentleman. But having never experienced real love he tries too hard to be liked, but isn’t prepared to put his heart on the line for fear of rejection.

Amelie’s been burnt by her last relationship and men are now her enemy. Until she meets Troy, no matter how hard she tells herself no more she just can’t stop.

Janice gave Troy and Amelie a fantastic story. Bringing cross creek and Red Cedar Ranch favourites together, welcoming as ever.

Love the Epilogue cameos 😏.

Can’t wait for more from this series.

As seen on my blog (Jessie's Reading Corner):
DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I met Troy Merrick when he first showed up in Janice’s Crossing the Line (Cowboys of Moss Creek, #5), and he won over my heart with his goofy and flirtatious ways. But, as always, there was more to his story, and I was ecstatic when Janice announced him to be the next hero in this series.

When I started reading this book, I had no other expectation other than it was going to get incredibly hot and spicy, considering it revolved around the couple having a One Night Stand. What I didn’t expect, was the emotional journey Janice took me on in this story! Troy’s story broke my heart, and I loved that Janice chose Amelie to be his heroine! Amelie’s backstory was just as sad, and I loved that they found solace in each other.

I also really loved the reappearance of Muriel. I just loved her relationship with Troy, and with Amelie. And it was hysterical seeing her interact with some of the older women in Moss Creek. Janice is phenomenal when it comes to writing grandmas who are up to no good, lol. And I loved the hints she made to her other series!

I can’t wait to see where Janice takes this series next! Heck, I can’t wait to read whatever Janice writes! Whether it be as Janice Whiteaker, Jemma Westbrook, or Josie Watts!

Thank you Janice and Julie for the advance copy!

I officially have a new favorite book! The previous Cross Creek book presented Troy as a hard-working, helpful young man. Oh he is so much more!!

I love the connection he and Amelie have right from the start. A one-night stand that was both steamy and hilarious. “If you don’t know what I’m doin’ then you’re about to be a very happy woman.”, was an unexpected line, but perfect for these two.

The story has substance beyond the hot dynamics between Troy and Amelie. We learn the true nature of their characters. One or both could have walked away from Muriel and the help she desperately needed, but without hesitation they dove right in. Their shared love for a stubborn, old lady and a deep desire to connect to someone brought them together.

This book is more than just heat, it goes beyond that! I laughed, I cried and I cheered for every character! Once again, Janice Whiteaker wrote a book I couldn’t put down!

I loved No coming back!
Everything from the storyline to Muriel to the marshmallow and the secondary characters! They had me in stitches!
But most of it was the relationship between Troy and Amelie, their vulnerability, past histories, their support of each other everything they stood for as a couple!!
The relationship between Troy and Muriel is beautiful and it’s a reminder that our elders are special, they have lived life, are smart and adaptable and can bring the best out of those they love. And we should be reminded of that!
But it’s also more than that, it’s the how the community rallies around each other, how we get a glimpse of stories to come from side characters, it’s the words on the pages that enthral you and capture your imagination… love this book so much
Thank you Janice!

Sweet & Spicy

No Coming Back is the kind of book you do not want to put down. I read it almost in one sitting (stupid real life with adult responsibilities) and I absolutely loved it.
Troy is just the sweetest of men with the most honorable intentions - and then he meets Amelie.
The burn is instant and it is sizzling in chapter two already!
What comes next is a story about two people who want each other, but need to find the way to make that happen in a small town in Montana.
The side stories in this book are hilarious; Amelie’s crazy flirtatious grandmother, a posse of grandma’s - barn cats with houses and did I mention there’s cowboys?

By the way, do you remember Kenny Rogers?

Back in Moss Creek, this time we get to know Troy. He is cowboy through and through. But he has met his match with Amelie, a city girl, and artist. Together they just work. Great chemistry.
We still get our fill of colorful side characters, and the grannies are a riot. A quick read that had me hooked from the first page.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

A one night stand changes Amelie Gable's life...she and Troy met in a bar, while she was on route to visit her Grandma in a city close by. Troy is the mystery man that has been helping her grandma Muriel by doing chores around the house that she lives in. Once Amelie and Troy's lives become entwined with Muriel and all the other characters, you find yourself involved, laughing and crying, feeling sadness and then joy as each of them find what they are looking for. I really believed in Amelie and Troy, their back stories but also in their potentials and futures. Naturally things don't go smoothly and there are plenty of surprises along the way as true love never runs smoothly does it? Can't wait to find out which couple are next to get their own HEA in this series. Loved it.

I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A one night stand gone oh so very right.
I laughed out loud, I wiped a tear, and I carefully filed each perfectly lusty scene straight into my spank bank. TMI? Sorry, not sorry!

Janice has done it again!

This one brings all the spice and heat 🔥🔥🔥 any romance reader craves. The story is jam packed with comedy, chemistry, and several wholesome connections that left me feeling like the characters were a little too special to let go of once the book ends. The beauty of this authors writing is that the series keeps the characters alive, so I am excited to crack into this whole series and find little snippets of where these two end up in the long run!

The tale of Amelie and Troy is one you’re not going to want to miss.

Prepare to pick the book up, settle in with Troy and Amelie, and race to the end as fast as your eyes can soak these two hard-headed hotties up!

First of all can I just say how much I love this series! This is book 6 and I’ve been a huge fan since the beginning. You can definitely read this as a standalone book, but I would recommend following the series to understand the background and characters that are tied throughout the books. I loved Troy and how he understood/exposed his vulnerabilities throughout the story. I also loved how Amelie was stubborn in a quiet way and how protective she was over those she cares about. Also the bits of humor spun in through out the book just made it for me. Muriel is hilarious and I wish she was my grandma!

Janice Whiteaker is my favorite author and her latest book was just as amazing as all the rest! This book was ~steamy~ yet sweet. Janice does an amazing job writing vulnerable but relatable characters. Plus, I always love a book that literally makes you laugh out loud. You can’t go wrong with a sexy cowboy, a sassy heroine, and a grandma with no filters! 10/10 recommend!

No cheating, HEA, stand alone but with character cross overs with the rest of the series.

One of her best books. So much emotion and sass. A couple with trust issues and abandonment issues turn to each other for a night of togetherness. Not knowing how their paths will cross the following day. Little do they both know the power of Muriel, stray cats and love will help turn thier lives around.

Janice Whiteaker heated things up with No Coming Back.
This story is about two broken people in a small town who really just want to be loved. Throw in some geriatric hilarity, and you get yourself a fantastic read.
This book is so much more than instant chemistry and heat though. It's fun and surprisingly deep. It made me feel for both characters and root for them. The secondary characters will have you laughing as you watch Troy and Amelie find their HEA.

Bacon boy finally gets his HEA!!! Troy and Amelie are both so broken from their past. They are so scared, and stubborn, to trust that someone could actually love them that they keep getting in their own way. Their story had me laughing and crying (happy and sad tears).
I love Troy's advice on dating/finding love "You've just got to find one that likes strays."
Oh, and Troy and Amelie might the main characters but Muriel is a hoot! I love older women that are still firecrackers. It inspires me. :)

Troy and Amelie are such a cute couple. Slow burn romance and oh so good. I also loved all of the side relationships that blossomed with other members of the families and such. There was a good mix of comedy, romance and it definitely kept my attention. They both had issues to iron out and I think they did a good job of helping each other.

As per usual, I got sucked in and couldn’t get out. Too bad my husband is from the suburbs of Philly because I REALLY want my own Montana Cowboy now. These two characters are so imperfect I felt like I could be them or a close friend of theirs - which made it easier to fall in love with them and their story.

Received this as an ARC. Loved this one, might be the best Moss Creek book yet. Troy and Amelie have a special relationship and are prefect for each other. I enjoyed the small peek at what the Pace family is up to, but I enjoyed the dynamic between Troy and Amelie more. And Muriel, I wish she was my grandma. I didn't want this story to end, I just hope there is more to this series so I can peek back into their lives someday.

Bacon Boy Gets His Perfect HEA

No Coming Back is quite possibly the perfect cowboy romance. Janice Whiteaker has the most amazing way of taking beautifully created characters through their ideal journey to find their true happily ever after, infusing steam and swoon that will keep readers up way past their bedtime. Because this book is seriously too good to put down. Troy (Bacon Boy) and Amelie are scorching from the very beginning, and their fire never wanes, making this one seriously steamy, emotional, and even a little angsty read.

True to her strengths as a writer, Whiteaker’s strong yet vulnerable characters fall as much under the spell of each other as the found family they’re surrounded by. Tried and treasured themes of perseverance, pride, and trust bond together to help characters bent on creating their own way find their true selves and their true loves. And that found family element creates some beautifully heightened emotions and builds strong connections not just between the characters, but between the characters and the reader.

Troy is quite possibly one of the most perfect book boyfriends. Not only is he gorgeous and quite capable, but Whiteaker imbues him with elements of longing and consideration that truly make him a multilayered, complex, yet sensitive soul. And Amelie is the perfect spitfire vision of independence, while also maintaining beautiful elements of vulnerability and sensitivity that make her an ideal friend, companion, and soulmate. Plus, Whiteaker’s signature girl gang is in full effect, and not just amongst Amelie and her friends. Muriel, Amelie’s grandmother, is one of the most complete—not to mention amusing, irreverent, and adorable—minor characters I’ve ever encountered in a romance novel.

While No Coming Back is part of the Cowboys of Moss Creek series, this steamy yet emotional tale can definitely be read as a standalone. But once you fall under the spell of Whiteakers humor and heartfelt happenings, you will want to dive in from the very beginning.

“No Coming Back” by Janice Whiteaker

**Spoiler Alert**

This was such a fun read. Muriel and Amelie sass had me choking from laughter.

Troy has all but given up on the “happily Ever After” Finding the one will never happen for him. His history of abandonment holds him back. Will he ever find that someone special who will love him enough to stay?

Amelie finds herself not only heartbroken but also disappointed in life itself. Her life was once what she thought she wanted it to be, but Trevor proved that theory wrong. Her parents all but disowned her because of her career choice. Why could she not just find her feet and become what she most wanted to be?

Troy is very well known around town, but it is not a badge he wears proudly. He needs to get his act together and accept things for what they are. It is what it is… or so he thought…

Amelie needed to forget the hurt and the disappointment in her life. She needs to run for a while, and there is only one place she can think of, but before that, she needs to find herself a cowboy… or so her friend Evelyn demanded she do. It's not a bad thought, especially when this fine specimen of a man catches her eye.

Muriel certainly has a way with words that will never fail to make you laugh uncontrollably. Her sass is just what Amelie needs right now, and the apple didn’t fall far from the tree that’s for sure…

Troy is in for a treat… She is everything he has ever wanted, but there is a problem… she is not here to stay…
Will they find their way to each other again? Will he forgive her for the lie? Will she let him in, or will the past be too much?

There is so much story to read that is filled with tons of humour, sass, angst, wild passion, forgiveness, secrets revealed, and truths told. The characters are very well written with a duel POV and a HEA.

O Bacon Boy, all you want from life is your own person to love you for you. Turns out you didn't get just one person to love you, you got a lot of people.

Troy and Amelie were made for each other. The way they started off, you just knew things are going to get exciting.

To start off, Troy's relationship with Muriel, how he went out of his way to help her, makes me wish there are more of these kinds of people out there. Won't it just make this world a better place? Don't get me wrong Muriel is no pushover either, she has been doing things on her own her whole life and accepting help isn't easy for her, but when she does accept the help, she does so with great dignity and humility.

Then, bang! Amelie is in the picture. After the way Amelie and Troy left after their first night together, running into each other again and where they ran into each other was epic! Going through this journey with Troy and Amelie, with Troy experiencing not just Muriel, but Amelie fighting and standing up for him, you could feel the moment Troy fell in love. Of course there are ups and downs in any relationship and they way these two navigate it is amazing.

Another great read from Janice Whiteaker!!!

Whew! What a ride!
Bacon Boy is Sizzling Hot!
Janice Whiteaker’s cowboys are all steamy and swoon-worthy, but Bacon Boy is so hot he might sizzle right out of the pan.
No Coming Back, the latest standalone installment of the Cowboys of Moss Creek collection, is no slow burn. Troy and Amelie come out of the gate swinging for the fences (yes, that is a vague baseball reference to remind me to google if baseball bats are made of hickory 😜 ) but there is no game playing in this story. What is in this story is an instant attraction—one-night stand that becomes more love story—featuring feisty problematic women of a certain age, small town, chosen family, and a hot cowboy who just wants to find his forever.
I am a fan of this well-written series, and I recommend it to anyone who loves chosen family, swoony cowboys, and well-balanced plot-driven steam.
No Coming Back is book 6 in the shared world collection by Janice Whiteaker and absolutely can be read as a standalone. You'll want to check out the rest of the collection too! All 6 books are available to read free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription.

This was my first book in the Cowboys of Moss Creek and I am kicking myself for not reading this series sooner. No Coming Back can absolutely be read as a standalone. Other characters are mentioned, but they are only integral to this story as family and friends. I did not feel lost at any point and I will definitely be going back to read the other books in this series.

Troy is a ranch hand who has been in Moss Creek for a little over a year and has made his way through most of the single ladies in town. Unfortunately, none of them want a long-term relationship with him. Troy has had an absence of love and family in his life and is searching for someone to give him both.

Amelie is running away from the end of a relationship and travels from New York to Montana to see her grandmother, Muriel, and put her life back together her way. A one night stand with a hot cowboy throws a wrench in her plans.

Troy and Amelie are brought back together when they discover her grandmother and the woman Troy looks after are one and the same. They are forced to unite to help Muriel with her house and they can't keep their hands off each other. This swoony cowboy has a mouth on him! This book has steam, banter and emotion.

The character development of both Troy and Amelie was so well done. They are both struggling with issues and they both falter at times. The conflict makes sense and isn't too angsty. The HEA was perfect.

I saw another reviewer mention the "granny gang" of Muriel and some of the other ladies in town & had to borrow it. These ladies will have you laughing out loud!

I highly recommend this book. It releases on January 30th and will be available in KU.

Thank you Janice and her team for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so good. I love it when two broken souls heal one another. And this one happens with lots of laughs, tears, and steamy scenes. My dream life is in Moss Creek - too bad I'm a suburbs girl.

Troy is a hard-working cowboy who is looking for forever but seems to only find girls who are temporary. Enter Murial, the fun-loving grandma who needs some help but is too stubborn to admit it. They forge an unlikely friendship, and Troy helps her out any time he can.

One night, Troy meets a girl, and he thinks she's different from all the other girls. They have one hot night, and she leaves. He has no idea Amiele is just off a bad breakup or that they have someone in common. Then he sees her again, and all bets are off.

The story of their relationship is hilarious. Watching them heal one another is heartwarming. Of course, there are some tears, but the HEA is totally worth it!

Troy is a cowboy on Cross Creek Ranch.
Muriel is an elderly lady he helps .
Amelie is Muriel’s granddaughter.
Evelyn is Amelie’s friend.

Troy an Amelie meet at a bar and things progress, but Amelie is thinking only for one night. Well things slowly turn a bit sticky, when Troy shows
up ( he is friends with Muriel) at her Grandma’s.

Troy has past issues (of abandonment and being loved for himself).
Amelie has past issues ( with her boyfriend and art gallery).

Will they work together to help Muriel and have and have A Happily Ever After.

This book has romance, intrigue, second chances and lots of emotions.

Great Job Janice Whittaker you never disappoint !!

4.5⭐️.

It was nice and refreshing to see an unintentional playboy who just wants to be loved and doesn’t think he’s “worthy”. Troy thinks of himself as a stray and just wants to be loved and to love.
Amelie and Troy are a beautiful couple mix in with grandma Muriel (who couldn’t love her) and some barn cats and you have the makings of a fantastic story.

What you can find
Cowboy
Found Family
Sad MMC backstory

My only peeve and it’s a personal peeve is the book is written in 3rd person
