From John Louis Anderson, the author of "Scandinavian Humor & Other Myths", a thoroughly Teutonic look at German/ Americans that's guaranteed to produce instant Gemutlichkeit and make you laugh in public! *The New German Gods. (Including BULK, the Goddess of Overeating; BECAUSE,the Gods of Stubbornness; and many more.) *The Kraut-Pleaser. (The Fast-Food Restaurant with an Old-World Menu: The Potato Diet; and Food as Duty.) *A Three-Generation Comparison between Catholics and Lutherans. (Sometimes there's less distance between churches than there is between generations.) *Rehabilitating the Pig. (You can bad-mouth hogs all you want, but no pig has ever been responsible for a Leveraged Buy-Out.) A German humor book that everybody can love!
If you are German/American, work with others who have German ancestors, or are from a small town known for its German settlers, this is the book for you.
Anderson exams every aspect of life (professions, work ethic, language, religion, hobbies, etc) as seen through the efficient eyes of someone with German ancestry.
If you like to make fun of your heritage, this is the book for you!
What a fun book! I suppose you really need to be German to fully appreciate this type of humor, however, this book will keep you laughing from start to finish. And, if you aren't German, I guarantee you will wish you were.
3.5 for the deutsch aware, more like 2 for the non-aware. It's light hearted good pictures, easily skinnable. I laughed out loud a couple times. It was worth it for that.
