She has suffered great loss. She has been betrayed.
And after failing to stop the greatest villain she has ever faced, she’s determined to never be blindsided again.
Her first priority is to rescue a suffering soul from the underworld itself. Though fellow adventurer Iluka Grantham is at her side to hunt down the gold coins that will allow her to cross the river Styx, entering the underworld through the deadly Pluto’s Gate in Turkey remans solely on her shoulders. Survival in the world of the dead isn’t guaranteed, even for Livi Talbot, and this journey will bring her face to face with her greatest failures, her biggest losses, and her inability to save those she loves.
And if she survives? The next goal is to go after every person responsible for the death that caused magic to bleed back into the human realm.
Friend Requests: I am really happy to accept new friends, however there is a challenge question. I realize it sounds bitchy, but I don't like author spam any more than any other reader. I ignore requests that don't respond to the challenge question (unless I *actually* know you in some capacity).
Please don't spam me with invitations to read your book. Thanks.

Award-winning author Skyla Dawn Cameron has been writing approximately forever. Her early storytelling days were spent acting out strange horror/fairy tales with the help of her many dolls, and little has changed except that she now keeps those stories on paper. She signed her first book contract at age twenty-one for River, a unique werewolf tale, which was released to critical and reader praise alike and won her the 2007 EPPIE Award for Best Fantasy. She now has multiple series on the go to keep her busy, which is great for her attention deficit disorder.
Skyla lives in Southern Ontario where she dabbles in art, is an avid gamer, and watches Buffy reruns. She’s naturally brunette, occasionally a redhead, and currently blonde. If she ever becomes a grown-up, she wants to run her own pub, as well as become world dictator. Info about the current series she's working on--which begins with Bloodlines--can be found at www.ZaraLain.com
I have followed this series since it started and while I am always afraid that this will be the book that disappoints, the quality of the writing only gets better. The depth of research that the author must undertake for each story is mind boggling, but it gives them a level of authenticity that makes a fictional story plausible. Visit the underworld to retrieve a soul - of course that’s totally possible! If I have any complaint it is that this complexity inevitably means a longer wait between books, but that is my inner toddler wanting quicker gratification rather than a problem with the series. The author is very clear that this is an action series rather than a romance and there will be no HEA, but that does not stop me from hoping that Livi and West are able to find a way back to each other, even if book seven is the last one published. Bring on book seven!
I was so excited for this book in the series--and it did not disappoint! The stakes have been getting higher along the way, driving tension, and the book had plenty of exciting actions scenes to match Livi's grueling inner journey. By this point the series has several long-running plot arcs and the development I was hoping for happened this book, though there are still more steps to come. Great characters and writing--cannot recommend this series enough.
The body remembers, even when the brain forgets. An excellent journey through trauma, and the choices we make because of it. With monsters, of course. Always with monsters.
