Foul magic stirs in the depths of the sea where sirens are ruled by the whims of powerful water nymphs. But when fever sweeps the watery kingdoms, threatening to destroy the race of sirens forever, a new hero must rise.

Darya, a water nymph, is chosen to find a magical remedy to save her people. But the spell for the cure lies ashore in the Great Library of Nomadia. Forsaking the depths, Darya begins a desperate quest to save her home, her people and everything she loves. But her quest goes awry when she is captured by slave traders who bind her magic.

Nurimil is a legendary hunter known for his skills in procuring magical creatures and artifacts. Unfortunately, a bounty is on his head and he’s on the run with a risky plan to secure his own freedom. A plan that becomes twisted once he lays eyes on Darya.

Araceli the Faun works in the capital city of Nomadia as a librarian. When traveling mages leave behind a mysterious tome she becomes obsessed with it. As she unravels the secrets of the book, it shows her how to summon a dark and devious jinn.

As Darya, Nurimil and Araceli wrestle with their own endeavors, they will soon discover they have the potential to sway the fate of Nomadia. For unrest plagues the empire of Nomadia. A darkness rises, fueled by a cruel sorceress with a hideous desire to throttle magic and rule all races with an iron fist.

Did I pick this one up because it was an epic fantasy written by a Black author? 100% yes. Did I pick up this book because of mermaids, sirens, and nymphs? Also, yes.

Treachery of Water is told from multiple POVs. We have: sea nymph that is destined to prove her worth, a blue faun who is determined to rise above her enslavement, a reclusive bounty hunter that is immune to magic, and an evil sorceress who is hellbent on revenge.

All of the characters are unique and fully developed. The world building and lore is incredible. Oh, and did I mention that there’s a library that houses magical tomes?

If you’re looking for your next immersive fantasy filled magic, lore, and political intrigue then definitely pick this one up!

Oh, and after that cliffhanger...I'll be picking up book two. I can't wait to see what happens next to my beloved characters.

I have read a few of Angela Ford's books, and while I think this was one of her better ones, it still lacked in pacing and character connections.

The author has a wonderful and fantastical imagination with her worlds and diverse mix of creatures which I really enjoyed. The execution, once again fell flat for me. I felt that the pacing was far too rushed to soak in what was happening, and that the characters very surface level, nothing deeper to connect with.

If you're after an epic fantasy of a light-hearted, easy kind, I would recommend this series. Another one of Ford's I unfortunately cannot get into, I think the universe is trying to tell me something.

"The choice is yours. Will you fight for what you want or let everyone step on you on their way to the top?"

That was one of my favourite quotes from this book. So beautiful and so powerful.

Now, let's begin the review. Where do I start? Well, first I want to say that this is my first Angela J. Ford book that I've read and I can't believe I haven't read anything by her until now. She has such a great writing style, I don't even know how to describe it, but it's the type of writing that makes you want to turn page after page. It flows, it helps you envision the world she created in such a beautiful way, it makes you a part of the story and it brings the characters to life. I will definitely check out more books by her after having the chance to read this one!

This book has action set both at sea and on land. If you're a fan of sea creatures such as mermaids, sirens, sea nymphs, then this is the story for you. It starts by following Darya, a sea nymph who is always searching for trouble. One day, instead of doing her duty, she leaves her guarding post because she sees something in the water that catches her attention. While she was away, not guarding the gate, an evil sea witch attacks the sirens and curses the water. The one chosen to go to the land in order to find a remedy is non other than Darya, our troublesome nymph. That's when her quest begins.

The book has multiple POVs and at first it might be confusing, because you won't understand how these characters connect to Darya's story and why you're reading things from their point of view. But as the story unravels, you will understand. Everything has a connection and I loved how the author combined these characters' stories into a bigger picture.

Following Darya and her quest, we're taken on an adventure where we can see her trying to find the courage to become better, to save the sea creatures. We see Darya struggle, grow and become stronger. She makes friends and enemies and she discovers things she didn't think were possible.

Besides Darya, the book follows Araceli's story, a simple librarian that lives in the great city of Nomadia, the capital of the Nomadian Empire. In parallel with Darya's story, Araceli's is one of growing, discovering what's best for her, following her dreams. I loved Araceli's character and how hard she tried to overcome her fears and become a better version of herself.

The book ends with a huge cliffhanger that will leave you wanting more, so now I can't wait to read the second installment in this series! I'm sure that Angela is going to do a great job on the next book, because she nailed this one!

I received this book for free from Author, MTMC Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. You can also find this review at The Reader and the Chef.

Buckle up, my friends for an epic adventure through Nomadia!! There’s always something special about books that include deep sea adventures and epic libraries, which you can both find in Treachery of Water. I mean, this book has everything one could hope for: Sirens! Beautiful Libraries! Jinns!! Romance!! Unlikely heroes! Ugh, I loved it.

The story is told through 3 alternating POVs:
– Darya, our mischievous water nymph who is determined to right her mistake of abandoning her position and allowing a witch to pass through their defenses and curse the entire kingdom.
– Araceli, a precious blue Faun working at the Great Library of Nomadia who may or may not accidentally summon a powerful Jinn. (Araceli is my fave! ♥)
– And Nurimil, a magical creature hunter who only wants to be free from the bounty on his head.

Their stories intertwine and I just LOVED getting to follow along their personal journeys as they grow stronger & fix mistakes, as well as challenging the norms of a magically diverse society full of discrimination based on identity, race and political standing.

Packed with magic and adventure, as well as beautiful world-building and wonderful characters, a Treachery of Water is a page-turner at its finest! Please add to your TBR!!

Wow what a truly magical and enchanting book this is, I loved every minute of it and I don't know how Ms. Ford managed to weave such an intricate tale about so many diverse characters but she really did a great job of this. I found the characters to be so lovable and love the way their lives are all somehow entwined. The dark magic is rising with Elmira wanting to take control of magic and erasing this from Nomadia whilst raising the dark lord. Many have suffered because of magic apart from herself, but many might suffer more where she to succeed. Nomadia is a land of many races and cultures living together but not all were equal, some were sold as slaves, some abused by wizards and some like our blue faun were treated as the lowest of the low. Political intrigue abounds both on land and in the sea realm and our characters are pawns in the game, but change was coming! Whether this be for the good or bad is still to be seen, but the child of prophecy whose tears turn to gold has risen and she did this with a vengeance. I love Darya, the water nymph and Aracelli, the blue faun and Nurimil, a human as well as the Jinn and would love to read further into their adventures as I am sure this series is going to end up being one of a fight between light and dark magic and I really enjoy such magical fantasy tales.

Ooh, I enjoyed this, wish I didn't have to wait for the next installment... Angela J Ford has created an intriguing world here, where, although there are humans, they are not the dominant race and only one of the POV character is of that race. We have mages - good and bad - a blue faun, a water nymph, a bounty hunter and a tortured girl. Plus a prophecy and a jinn. They are all tied together somehow, we see some of the threads in this first book, but others we have yet to discover. It is well written and described and I certainly felt the world-building had been done expertly. The pace is just right and I can't wait to find out what happens to our intrepid characters in book 2.

This is my first book by this author and I can’t believe I haven’t read her books before. This story was absolutely amazing. I loved every moment of it. Had me hooked right away and I couldn’t stop till I finished it. I love all the characters even the bad one. Love how we get each of their points of views too. Cliffhanger was a bit mean. But I can’t wait for book two now. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a good epic fantasy!!

Thank you to Angela Ford for gifting me a copy of the book for my honest and voluntary review.

This book was fast paced and I did not want to put it down! I wanted to find out what Elmira, Darya, Araceli, and Nurimil would do next in their quest. They are all working independently for the same goal all outcasts, outlaws or misfits due to their society.

The world building and story is so rich and there is so much life and fantasy in Nomadia. Can't wait to for book #2

*this book was sent to me by the author to give an honest review in return*
This was an enjoyable book. It’s about three people/creatures who seek to save the empire from a plague and must wrestle their own endeavors as a evil sorcerers rises to rule the empire. I enjoyed this unique story with a new world building. The new world was complex but easy to understand and get into. For me it was a little hard to get into the writing as I felt it didn’t start in the beginning where usually in other fantasy books I would get information about what is going to happen but this one it just started right away with a lack of that information. I enjoyed it but the same time I didn’t as at times it would be hard to get into or a little hard to understand what was happening. The pacing was a little slow in the beginning but it got to its normal pace once the story started to flow. This story also had multiple povs which I enjoyed as you can see how each character is connected to Darya’s story.

I enjoyed the main characters in the story and thought it was amazing to see there were three main characters for this book and a villain. I won’t explain who each characters are because then my review will be super long but I have to say that each character had a great character development and more to come in the next books. There weren’t many side characters in the book but I enjoyed the ones that were involved in the story. I especially love the sorceress villain in the story and seeing how involved she was in the book. There was some romance in the book but not my favorite. I wish we got more of it and seeing a proper development for the couple.

I enjoyed the ending for the book which ended in a minor cliffhanger. I will most likely be reading the next book just to see what happens next. I have read Angela’s past books, enjoyed them a lot and this one for sure didn’t disappoint. I did have some minor problems but I’m hoping to see those change in the next book especially with the romance. Overall this was a great book and I recommend you read it if you love mermaids, sirens, and hunters.

There are four point of views that you get in this book; Araceli, Nurimil, Darya, and Elmira. The story takes place in the kingdom of Nomadia, a fantasy world filled with magical creatures and so far not that many humans.

I preferred Araceli’s story with the jinn, Kaiden over Darya and Nurimil’s. I love their dialogue together. I do hope Araceli becomes less selfish in the sequel. And the last view of Araceli, ah! Ford killed me with that chapter. My baby Kaiden, whhhhy 😭😭😭

Darya is a water nymph and Nurimil a human and they end up being soul mates. I just wasn’t for their relationship. It seemed like the attractiveness is only there because of the bond between them and not because they actually like each other’s personalities. That’s my only qualm though.

It was a nice, light read. Well, should’ve been a light read but took me forever to finish just because I couldn’t really get into it. And then the last ten chapters I really got into it and was devastated with the ending. Now I can’t wait to read the sequel.

I enjoy that Ford writes interracial relationships and that her main characters aren’t what you’d normally find. Nymphs and fauns tend to be side characters while she made them her main characters. It’s a nice change.

Disclaimer: This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

An interesting story of a magical world with many different races and mystical creatures. I enjoyed the world of Nomadia greatly, the different cultures, races and the magic that the book has. I also enjoyed the way the book is written to tie everything together as the book progresses. My heart goes out to the 4 different characters and their perspectives although I feel like the there could be more drive to the current 'villain' character in the book, she feels a little more like a convenient catalyst and I could not relate to her. Still, I am intrigued by the plot and definitely will pick up book 2.

Narration by Naomi Rose-Mock is wonderful. I have enjoyed her portrayal of each characters greatly, and it was not too dramatic that it's intrusive and not too dull. She gave a good balance to everything.

🌻"She couldnt explain why, but she opened her mouth, threw back her head, and breathed in the wizard's soul"🌻

I actually really really enjoyed this book. It's an intense fantasy, with lore for DAYS. The characters are well fleshed out and theres not one I disliked (which is very unusual).

The entire story was captivating, and I flew through this book cause it was just so easy to read. Everything was very well laid out, and the lore was incredibly easy to follow, which is a problem I often have with fantasy books. I loved the story, full of prophecies and magic and all the good stuff.

Kaiden was BY FAR my favourite character, closely followed by Araceli, they were both so interesting and personalised and great.

I'd reccomend this to anyone looking for a nice fantasy read, and I definitely cant wait for the next book!

Treachery of Water is a fantastic start to the Lore of Nomadic series. It's brilliantly written and highly imaginative, I was thoroughly impressed by the world-building. I'm not really a fantasy reader or listener, every once in a while, I only dab my foot in the genre. With her phenomenal writing and character development, Angela J. Ford has split the door wide open to an incredible world for me. Treachery of Water is an adventurous tale and wholly engaging with amazing and fascinating characters. The storyline has it all, magic, action, vengeance, suspense, intrigue, betrayal, and romance. I can't wait to listen to the second book in the series and to find out what comes next.

Naomi Rose-Mock's narration was on point. She breathed life into Ford's words and definitely made the story more engaging. This audiobook was so worth the listen and I'm highly recommending it.

What an amazing read!

This story was so enchanting. With beautiful descriptive settings from on land and under the sea to the amazing magic system that blew me away.

I was hooked from the very first chapter. I loved the multiple POVs and getting to know each character. They all had their own interesting personalities and story lines that will likely all connect in the end.

I loved the different types of characters in the story. Blue fauns, jinns, mages, and nymphs are just some of the species that you will read about.

The author did a brilliant job of bringing all aspects of this story together seamlessly and uniquely. I cannot wait for book two, to see where the characters and the story will go next.

The prophecy of Nomadia talks about a child with golden tears trapped in chains, hurt by the pain, furious with anger. And the day she rises to power, empires will fall and none shall be able to withstand The Golden Teared.

I knew from the start this book was gonna be an epic one and it lived up to my expectations. There's a diverse range of magical creatures starting from the sea nymphs to mermaids, giants to jinns, sorceress to fauns. You name them, and here they are. The book is narrated in multiple pov - which did get a little confusing in the beginning as there were just too many characters to begin with. But it gets better as the story progresses.

There's a foul magic threatening all the sea creatures - the mermaids, the nymphs, the sirens. Someone must rise as the hero to save them all. But for that, one must visit the land to get hold of an age old spell book protected somewhere in the Great library of Nomadia. Darya, a sea nymph of little or no value, was chosen for the task - for losing her to the cause shall make little difference to the sea nymphs. Darya was however determined to get the cure but along the way to the library, she is captured, tortured, sold and kidnapped a multiple times - until a legendary hunter Nurimil takes her under his protection. Together they walk the streets of Nomadia, each with their own purpose. There's a bounty on Nurimil's head and he is on the run.

At the capital city of Nomadia, in the Great Library works a blue faun named Araceli. Araceli had no better life than Darya or Nurimil. Being a blue faun, she was restricted from reading or learning magic. However, her curiosity got the best of her and unknowingly, she summoned a devious jinn.

At someplace far, a power was on the rise. The prophecy of Nomadia of the Golden teared might just come true. Her desire for revenge and to rule over all magical creatures was coming into play. She must be stopped at all cost. As their paths get entangled with each another, secrets shall be spilled, apologies shall be made and relationships might just mend. This dark fantasy set in the magical land of Nomadia will keep you glued to your reading chair.

Like I said, I had expectations and the book lived up to it and how! I am so eagerly waiting for the second book because I need answers for the betrayals this book ended up with. I mean, I didn't see that coming and I am hurt. Aah! I wanna cry my eyes out. The language was pretty lucid and the pace was good too. The world building was fantastic, the characters were written so well. If you are into all things magical? This book is for you.

A whimsical tale of intertwined fates of a sea nymph, a human, a faun, a jinn and a sorceress. I really enjoyed the journey and adventures. Left with a cliffhanger until the sequel, Treachery of Ink comes out in June of 2022.
