Exactly what its title suggests, gives you the basics of investing with explaining pretty much every tool it is available.
But be aware that it also a really 101 book, will be suggesting opinions that are a bit on the conservative side. Although those are probably the best places for an average investor to be, might not be as good if you are a bit more seasoned investor with some experience under your belt, especially on bear markets.

Also a very important note: This book loses its accuracy if you will not be investing through American financial markets. There is a lot of information on laws and systems that may not exist in your country. So would not really suggest to a new investor as what makes an instrument meaningful in the USA, through their tax advantages, may be quite contrary in your country.

Really good to give you the absolute basics of investing. This would be most beneficial to anyone without any accounting or finance knowledge to get them started in investing without overwhelming them with more advanced concepts.

If you do have an accounting or finance background this probably isn't for you.

Madison, şirketinin 401(k) planına, her yıl 2.000'er dolar olmak üzere on Yıl yatırım yapar. Madison yatırımları üzerinden ortalama yıllık yüzde on büyüme oranı bekleyebilir. Erken başladığı ve emeklilikte almadan önce artması için parasına zaman tanıdığından, altmış beş yaşında 556.197 dolar parası olur.

Otuz dört yaşında başlayan Cooper otuz yıl boyunca her yıl 401(k) planına 2.000 dolar yatırır.

Interesting way to dip your feet into investment and sorta/kinda understand how stock markets work.

It's a primer, meaning it's made for idiots; however, it wasn't made for TOTAL idiots like me. I know this because no matter how many times Michele Cagan tries to explain the differences between the different kinds of bonds and bond ETFs, I feel like a little kid feigning understanding the teacher's complicated math problem by nodding slowly and pathetically.

And forget about options, puts, calls, and futures.

If you've already been immersed into the investment world, you will probably understand some of the explanations given in the book. Cagan (which, fun fact, means "they poop" in Spanish) makes a decent effort at explaining concepts in a simple way. I probably just need it more dumbed down than he figured.

Great book. Got a lot out of it, and I'm probably going to come back to it when I actually understand options.

I’m going to be super brief in my review here for Michelle Cagan’s excellent “Investing 101.” This is a fantastic and short book about the basics of investing. I learned a lot and once things are less scary, I do plan on using the tips here to start making some bigger financial moves.

Cagan does an excellent job of breaking down the subject matter in a positive and constructive way. I never felt like I was being talked down to. The sections are neatly organized and make sense.

My criticisms are pretty minor considering how detailed and thorough this book is. One, wish there had been a little bit more of “hey, look out for X,Y and Z things because they indicate a Ponzi scheme/bad stuff.” A little more emphasis on how to protect yourself from bad actors would have been a great addition. Similarly, there’s a section on socially responsible investing, but the advice is mostly limited to environmental practices. While Cagan mentions a few tips on how to make sure the companies in question are good actors, it’s again, pretty limited.

All of the investors mentioned in the pros section are older white men. It would have been a better and stronger part of the book if it had been more diverse.

Overall, this is a fantastic little reference book and I found most of the advice given to be gently reassuring and entirely doable. If you’re like me and you’re feeling panicky about the economy, the beginning section on economics will be oddly comforting. Yes, stuff is scary, but it won’t be forever. Stay safe, friends.

Investing 101: From Stocks and Bonds to ETFs and IPOs, an Essential Primer on Building a Profitable Portfolio is mainly a book of definitions. If you desperately need to know some of the key terminology about investing then this is a great book to start with. It’s not idiot proof because it does take some focus to carry over the definition of one thing into the very next definition, but it was definitely not the most difficult text to understand.

There was a time or two when the author wrote as though investing lingo is something everyone should just know without needing to read this book which kind of defeats the purpose of writing a 101 book, but it didn’t happen all that often. A decent introduction to the words but...

Dithered between 3 stars and 5 stars. This isn't the kind of book I usually read, so it was hard to apply my usual rating system, in which 3 stars is "I neither actively liked nor disliked it" and 5 is "spectacular." I decided that wasn't really fair, though, since this book did what it was supposed to do, I would say, rather spectacularly. That doesn't mean I ENJOYED reading it. But there it is. If you know nothing about investing and want to learn, this is a great book for it. It's quick, readable, and seems full of actionable information (not that I've acted upon any of it yet).

A simple and straightforward book about the basics of investing that included strategies, definitions, and an attempt to put the puzzle pieces together about everything that goes into investing. I found it very informative, but I did think there could have been better chapter organization. There were also a lot of pullouts that broke up paragraphs in a way that was more distracting than helpful but would overall recommend!

Gives the fundemental information for investing, just as the title suggests. The main problem is it's totally US oriented. There was little info for me to apply in my country. That might be the intention of the author, but it should've been implied because it has been translated to many languages as well.

My major complaint about the Personal Finance book in this series was answered with this one. Investment is kind of intimidating to me because I don't know how it works, but this book explained it in a relatively easy to understand way. I still have questions, obviously, and need to do further research, but this book gave me a much better starting point for those questions than I had before I read it.

Pretty solid book, the title is exactly what you get. Super helpful for understanding important topics and terms within the stock market and investing field. The read itself was similar to a textbook which was to be expected; however, I was hoping for a little more advice or direction for someone who is fairly new to the market. But overall solid for gaining familiarity with terms and different kinds of investments.

Great Foundation for Investing Fundamentals

It was an easy read. Introduced and explained investment concepts well. After reading it, I felt more informed, but had a burning desire and need to know more. I felt like a great work in progress as it relates to my understanding of investing. Definitely more to learn.

A decent introduction to these topics, but not a decent introduction to actually building a portfolio. If you read this book and started trading, you'd lose all your money. For better introductions to today's financial world, I'd recommend Simple Wealth, Inevitable Wealth by Nick Murray, or The Little Book of Common Sense Investing by Vanguard founder Jack Bogle. (Other folks will offer up plenty of info, and they're probably right!) If you see terms in Murray's or Bogle's books that you aren't familiar with, give them a Google.

Cagan's book offers some decent definitions of terms, but explaining options trading AND real estate investing in a "101" book is a bit of a tough ask. I'd recommend skimming the first few chapters and then digging in if you're getting something from it.

Not bad as an extremely basic overview, but the book jumps from topic to topic without too much depth yet sometimes the writing seems obtuse and not very accessible. I did appreciate the chapter on green investment which I feel is an important aspect to consider when building an investing philosophy.

I rated this book 3 stars due to the introductory knowledge you get from this book. I didn't learn anything from the book, but someone completely new to the investing world would learn a great deal of basic concepts in a nonspecific fashion. If you already know these basic concepts of investing, you will likely want to skip this book.

101 isminin hakkını veren bir kitap. Yatırım araçları ile ilgili bilgileri bulabilirsiniz. Kötü yanlarından bir tanesi kitabın Birleşik Devletler baz alınarak yazılmış ve oradaki düzenlemelerden bahsedilmiş olması, bunlar ülke sistemine yabancı okurları yer yer sıkabiliyor.
