When prosecutor Michelle Law is arrested for the murder of a young political analyst, the media scrutiny of her life leads her to breaking point.
Criminal defense attorney Tex Hunter agrees to defend his former adversary, digging deep into a case that leads to corruption at the highest levels. Confronting political lobbyist Walter Charman, Hunter finds there’s more to the case than listed in the police files. With Chicago’s most powerful against him, Hunter battles to save his client, working hard to find the evidence that could clear her name.
As the case twists and turns, Hunter is driven to uncover the truth. But to expose the truth, to find out what really happened on the night of the murder, Hunter must risk his own life.
Can he win the case in court? Or will the powerful send him to an early grave?
Losing Justice can be read as a standalone novel or part of the heart-pounding Tex Hunter Legal Thriller series!
O' Mahoney delivers again. A real page turner. A lot of suspense, A surprise ending. I highly recommend this one to those who love mysteries with lots of action.
I enjoyed this read, although not quite as much as the previous, "Freedom and Justice." "Losing" is more predictable and the primary characters, now known, not so interesting. The premise, aloof, successful, female prosecuting attorney is charged and indicted for murder - a body found in the trunk of her car, she blacked out after a night of drinking. She hires Tex, her courtroom rival, to defend her. Well, we might think, this has possibilities, and it does. But the progression is easily anticipated and there are no surprises. The bad guys are early identified and come to their just desserts and the good guys find reward and happiness.
O'Mahoney is a decent crime fiction writer, IMO, and uses, occasionally, some clever literary tricks, which makes the book more worth your while. The book is fast paced and often a page turner as he knows about tension and suspense. O'Mahoney is a criminologist and familiar with courtroom procedure, which gives his books, there are many, a good dose of authenticity, so that should you be interested in such arcane formality, here you can learn something.
I have mostly enjoyed the Tex Hunter series and while the sheer number of editing and grammatical mistakes can be offputting, Losing Justice was the worst so far. I wonder if the author is using ghostwriters or is collaborating with others and just doesn't put the time and effort into polishing up the final manuscript. Also, in Losing Justice, there were ENTIRE paragraphs where the lawyer's name (Tex Hunter) was written as Joe Hennessey (from the Southern Lawyer series). Are entire sections of the book being copied and pasted from his other series? I also find that British colloquialisms are sprinkled throughout all of the books. For example, referring to an elevator as a lift. Not a big deal, especially if the author is from Britain, but it is a bit odd for a series of books set in Chicago. None of this is to say that the books aren't entertaining. They are, or I would have quit after reading the first Tex Hunter book. I enjoy legal thrillers, and the author does a good job of creating interesting court cases, so I have chosen to overlook the annoying errors in each book.
Losing Justice has an enjoyable plot and interesting courtroom scenes, but the editing is absolutely atrocious. With everything from egregious punctuation errors to grammatical mistakes and wrong word usage and more, there are multiple mistakes on virtually every page. The poor editing was enough to ruin my enjoyment of the book. What a shame!
ok you guessed it. so many twists and turns to maneuver keep reading.
So this is a very intriguing and interesting read. First of all whats happening with Tex and Esther and how did Michelle get mixed up in a murder rap??? Will Tex get her off and who else is involved. Well you will just need to keep reading to find out
I have read mixed reviews on the Tex Hunter series, but for me, I LOVE it. I’m glad that it took 8 books to go through Tex’s personal past mixed with his present journey. Just very happy he finally gets everything resolved. Can’t wait to see where his next journey leads him. This is like a tv drama that I am totally hooked on. I hope it keeps on going.
I loved the fact that Tex Hunter stood firm getting Michelle out of prison. I enjoyed his and Esthers relationship as partners, as well as lovers. I enjoyed the bad guys were brought to justice. This is the 3rd book I've read by Peter I'm a honey and looking forward to more. I'd recommend all his stories!!
A very intriguing and entertaining story of crime and a trial to get the accused off.
This is a great story with many twist and turns that will keep you entertained and guessing as to where the story goes next and who is the guilty party.
It's nice to see the progression of this character Ted Hunter! I've been read his novels for 3 years what a writer. Peter sells books by word of mouth! He always keeps me turning into the pages. Read his books!
I believe this is my favorite Tex Hunter book. Tex has finally come full circle in his emotions and matured emotionally as well as professionally. He had to learn patience and perseverance as well as professional loss.
Start with book one of the series, read in order, you won't be disappointed. I am a fan of this author and so far all the books have provided me with hours of enjoyment. Well written, well crafted.
There are few storytellers. I’ve found another. Theme, characters, action, twists. They’re all there with many authors, but storytellers put it all together in a seamless fashion. Great read!!
Michelle Law, prosecutor and Tex’s former formidable opponent, finds herself accused of murdering a young woman. Of course, she asks Tex to defend her. There’s a lot of twists and a big one at the end. Can’t say much without spoiling it. Just read it!
Intelligent, lots of suspense. Characters with good hearts. Good logic behind the plot. A pleasure to read,I hope Peter writes more stories about Tex Hunter. I like him.
I think Losing Justice was the best of the series. I've enjoyed watching the characters develop with their interactions creating little sub-plots. Looking forward to reading #9!
