Hearts for Hire #2

Hopeless for You

Rate this book
Cyan is hired to tutor Griffin in the ways of love. He never expects to become the student. Will their lessons lead to the real thing?

Griffin Clarke
A twenty-one year old virgin college freshman? Yeah, that’s me. But I haven’t waited this long to just throw it away. I dream of the perfect romantic night, straight out of one of my favorite novels. So, I hired a professional to get the job done right. There’s just one hitch; Cyan isn’t the playboy I expected. He's so much more.

Cyan Morrison
I’ve been described as easygoing, charming, and a natural-born flirt. It's for those reasons I’m one of Lucky Match’s most sought-after escorts. It’s also why Griffin Clarke wants to gift wrap his V-card and present it to me on a silver platter. Being with him changes everything I thought I knew about myself. He helps me become more than just the pretty playboy everyone else sees. The trick is to make him want to stick around, but he seems to only want one thing from me: love lessons. How can I make him believe he has more to learn than I can teach him in only one night?

Hopeless For You is a gay male escort romance with an HEA. This sweet heat, friends to lovers story features spicy love lessons, first times, well-meaning friends with terrible advice, and found family.

"He was valuable, and his gift was priceless. And anybody that didn't see it that way didn't deserve to touch him."

Hopeless for You is the second book in the Hearts for Hire series by Raquel Riley, and whilst it is a connected series centred around a gay male escort agency and we do reconnect with characters from book 1 Lucky Match, Hopeless for You can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. This is Cyan and Griffin's story.

The basic premise is that Griffin has decided it's time to lose his virginity, and he wants all the hearts and flowers and the 'perfect' experience. He decides that the only way to do it perfectly is to hire a professional, and so turns to his friend, gay escort Cyan, to get the job done right.

Cyan is focused on making enough money through his escort work to start up his own photography business, and can't allow himself to be distracted by the cinammon roll offering himself up on a platter for his delectation. And Griffin is focused on getting the job done and moving on with his ambitions. But things don't always go to plan....

"I was smarter than this. I was not the guy who fell for unavailable men, be they straight, involved, married, or closeted."

If you love low angst, super cute, super sweet, some steam, friends-to-lovers MM romances, you will LOVE Hopeless for You.

DNF @ 3%. No rating.

I could tell almost instantly that this wasn't for me. Everything about the writing screams 'This Is A Romance Book' and not in a good way. Instead of being immersed in the story, I was constantly being reminded that I'm reading a romance book, and that's not good. Every single thing felt generic and like the author was following formulas and checking things off on a list.

The dialog isn't good (it's not atrocious but a lot of it isn't natural). There's infodumping in both narration and by the characters overexplaining things to each other in a way that's meant to communicate 'This Is Important Information For Readers'. There are too many side characters and the way the author goes into excessive detail about their appearances, personalities and backgrounds makes it clear that they're from the first book in the series or will appear later. Everything about this story felt generic, low effort and formulaic. If you asked an AI to churn out a romance book after feeding it equally bland, generic romances then this is exactly the kind of thing it would come up with. I'm not going to rate it because I only read a few pages so things might have turned around but based on my experience with this type of low effort, generic writing style, I'm probably not going to be disappointed that I'm leaving this one behind.

Reading the comments, I might be the only one rating that "low". I do not have strong adverse feeling about the story and the writing style or the characters, to be honest, it was more about personal taste.
I have read some similar plots that brought more chemistry than these two. I found the characters mega cheesy and I did not connect with them at all.
I won't read more books from this series.

Hopeless for you was a very sweet, sometimes steamy romance, that just left me with a feel good feeling. I have a bit of a soft spot for escort romances, I love how seeing the main characters overcome the career choice and move forward.

This was my first book by Raquel Riley and I enjoyed her writing style. It was easy to follow, engaging but relaxing, and I enjoyed her humour. I loved the idea behind this series, and this book introduced a couple of new escorts so it will be interesting to see if they get their own stories.

I only had one small hiccup with the story, and it was a very small one. At one stage, Griffin has decided to hire Cyan to help him with his problem. It’s all been sorted, even though an exact date is not yet confirmed. However, Griffin spends a long time preparing for the event. Meanwhile, he continues to grow his friendship with Cyan in class. This is all wonderful, except Cyan has no idea what Griffin has done. I don’t know, it’s really really minor, but I just didn’t like it. It seemed dishonest. It would be different if Cyan and Griffin only saw each other in passing, but they were becoming very good friends, both developing feelings, but only Griffin knew the eventual outcome. It just didn’t sit well with me. But as I said, it was really minor, and that part of the story is over fairly quickly, and I really enjoyed the rest.

Hopeless for You can be read and a enjoyed as a standalone. I had not read the first book, although I will go back to it. I am *really* looking forward to Reid and Riley’s story, they played a big and important role in the story, and they really hooked me as characters. I think their story will be amazing.

Overall, I really enjoyed Hopeless for You, it was a fun read with a great cast of characters

The second book of Hearts for Hire series was just as engaging as the first one! Raquel knows just how to grasp the readers attention with her writing style, continuing to engage her readers with every turn of the page. She continues with a fabulous character development, along with updates of previous characters. She paints a beautiful picture with her words, bringing her readers with her throughout the characters journey.

𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗜’𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻.

Cyan and Griffin have an undeniable, yet slow burn connection. The constant flirtatious banter slowly fizzled away for a while after coming out strong, but there was growing mentally and emotionally that was needed for their hea to occur. They experience joy and pain in such a short amount of time, but stick together through it all. And, their chemistry was felt through the pages, building up for an explosive ending!

I have to make note of the obvious chemistry between Riley and Reid in the first book and even more in this one, and I am so excited to finally read their story next!

Cyan and Griffin have a refreshing, young opposites attract romance! Cyan is realistically imperfect and a bit much at times, but you still love him! He is genuinely concerned about being the right one as Griffin's first. I immediately adored Griffin as the book loving virgin! These two were both very likable college age characters and as they became more involved with each other they really did grow! The on-page chemistry is sizzling and fun, and they have some seriously hot encounters before completing the deed! Virgin nerds are definitely my trope! I read an arc and I am now going back to read book one because I enjoyed this one so much! Virgin nerds are definitely my trope!

I didn't read the first book in this series before reading this but I did after. Even though I hadn't read the first book I didn't feel like I missed a really important part of the story so it worked for me. I loved this book, the characters were absolutely wonderful and this had a great storyline. I can't wait to see where the series goes from here and I will look for more books by this author.

I loved this story and thought it was a great addition to hearts for hire. The push and pull back and forth was decent in here. However by the end it just got to be a bit too much drag for Cyan and Griffin to get there. I loved most of the book, the dialogue and style. However I didn't care for the we can't get over this and both just giving each other so much grief. The I'm not good enough and I deserve better dynamic didn't do much. Despite the drag to finding their way the hea was most satisfactory and the story was still good and definitely worth the read. I just wish there was less angst and more working out a solution. I still do recommend this book and series as well worth your time and read.

Hopeless for You is the second story in the Hearts For Hire series! I’ve been anxiously awaiting the second story after reading Lucky Match. Hopeless For You features Cyan and Griffin. Griffin is a sweet and somewhat innocent virgin. Cyan is an escort hired to take said virginity but instead they barter for something a little more. This was the perfect feel good, opposites attract, friends to lovers’ story!! The story also features an amazing secondary supporting cast of characters and I cannot wait for more in the series!! Overall, a great feel-good story! Well written with nice pacing, highly recommend.

Griffen and Cyan ❤️
2.5 stars 🌟

Ok so here goes, this book goes in my eh pile....it was sweet at times, sexy at times but so frustrating!!! I wasn't a fan of this story line...let me explain, you have two men, one being an escort hired to be the others first....these guys begin to form a really sweet bond they both begin to fall in love after spending a lot of time and several romantic moments together yet Cyan is still escorting to build up enough funds to make his dreams come true...which would be fine except his inner dialogue about the things he'd currently do as an escort and enjoy left me uneasy...for Griffen....thus leaving me all out rather than all in on their relationship.....I just couldn't invest in it the way I normally would in a book. I know most have thought this book was great, so maybe it's just me 🤷🏻‍♀️ I will say that I like the writing style of this book and there were some good parts, I would give this author another chance and read the next book in this series because I did enjoy this group of friends.

Hopeless for you is the first book I've read by Raquel Riley and it certainly won't be my last. She blew me away with her writing and the uniqueness of her background and characters. I think the Lucky Match was such a creative concept and something that I have yet to see in a book as far as escort services go.

This book tells the story of Griffin and Cyan. One desperately wants to lose their virginity and the other knows how to take it.

My review for this one is going to be short and sweet. I really enjoyed the connection that we as readers, got to feel between these two characters. Not to mention all of the playful banter between Cyan, Reid, Riley and Lucky. This book made me smile through a hard time in my life and I'm so happy I was able to read this. I can't wait for Reid's and Riley's story, they really intrigued me.

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to smile and playful banter between great characters, and watching two characters, who at first glance might not end up together but do anyway.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

This is a cute, New Adult, escort/client romance and the second in the Hearts for Hire series. I sometimes felt like the characters read a little young or naïve, particularly Griffin, who’s been highly sheltered. For me, there were some logical inconsistencies, like Griffin was a longtime gymnast, but he’s described as being physically weak. Those dudes usually have biceps on their biceps. And, Cyan is suppose to have a single-minded focus on bankrolling his photography studio, but he’s turning down dates left-and-right. There’s also a LOT of focus on secondary characters that slows the pace here. I like connected character stories, but I don’t need to know those other characters’ backstories right now. I also struggled with Griffin’s own business plans—while in college full time. Like, wow. It felt super convenient and just outside of the realm of believability.

I absolutely adored the first book in this series and I think I loved this one even more! This series has been sweet, funny, steamy and super intriguing! Hopeless for you is about Griffin, a sweet college freshman who is still a virgin, and Cyan, a male escort with the Lucky Match Escort Service. Griffin hires Cyan to give him the perfect night and take his virginity. What happens instead is these two men develop a sweet friendship that blossoms into a beautiful love. It was fun to watch their love slowly grow for each other. Their chemistry was off the charts and they had such an amazing friendship first. They were able to tear each other’s walls down with the deep friendship they had. I loved this book so much! I am so excited to continue on this journey with this amazing series!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

I liked this one, but didn't love it, as I was just unable to get past Cyan continuing to work as an escort and having sex with numerous other men.

Add to that, Griffin suffered a personal loss and Cyan was the only one who failed to contact him. I know they'd had a disagreement, but the death of a family member should be above that, surely? Especially if you have feelings for the person.

I do like this group of characters, so I will continue the series, but I fear that the other books will be the same for me. Riley is already coming home to sleep in the same bed as Reid smelling of sex with others. Yuck. I'm nervous to even start their story!

Hopeless For You had some sweet moments and had the right amount of spice. I loved Cyan's honesty with Griffin with regards to sex and how he taught him everything he needed to know without making him feel embarrassed etc. I also felt so bad for Cyan when he cried with shame about his job. Sadly, I just couldn't get past that job. Hearing him talk about hot couples he sleeps with in front of Griffin, or Griffin seeing him out with a group of men who were all over him... and the job continued on for months beyond that... no, it spoilt an otherwise good book.

I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC.
Cyan has it all! Great friends, a job he loves, long-term goals he is working towards, or so he thinks until he gets a job that shocks his senses. Griffin needs help with a delicate problem and seeks out Lucky Match for help. He's very  explicit in what he wants. He wants romance! Cyan is a HAF escort who is sure to be able to fulfill all of Griffin's desires but Cyan quickly learns Griffin is so much more and he plans  to take it slow. Griffin is not a one and done kind of guy. He's a forever guy. Tensions rise and doubts set in.  Can these two accomplish their goals and  have a relationship? The author does an amazing job taking you through their relationship and their HEA.

This book gave me the feels so hard!! Griffin and Cyan are first and foremost friends, but Griffin wants more from Cyan than he is ready to give. You'd think an escort wouldn't have any problem taking someone's V-card, right?? Well, when emotions get involved, it's a HUGE problem. Cyan would love nothing more than to rip Griffin's V-card to shreds but feels completely unworthy of such a precious gift. As these two fumble their way through intense passion, without the much desired actual "deflowering" of Griffin, things get tense and a potentially amazing relationship starts to derail. Can these two manage to get their internal issues sorted before they lose the best thing that has ever happened to them?? Read this book and find out! You won't be disappointed!

This is book 2 in the series and l can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I love this world that Raquel has created with the friendship/housemates. They are truly a wonderful family.

Griffin is a student and working at the school bookstore while working toward his goal of owning a bookstore. Cyan is also a student, working as a escort, and working toward his goal of running his own photography studio. He is not a commitment kind of guy which Griffin is.

Griffin knows Cyan is the person that will help him with virginity as he knows he will handle with care and make it memorable for Griffin. ROMANCE is key.

Their story is definitely slow burn with sweet flirting and miscommunication Great story Raquel and can’t wait for the next in the series.

This was the second story in the hearts for hire and like the first one, I really enjoyed reading it. It's a sweet and low angst college story about Griffin and Cyan. Griffin is an innocent virgin who is determined to lose his virginity before finishing college and hires escort Cyan to help him because he knows him. However Cyan has a crush on Griffin for a while and feels uncomfortable doing it but they end up fooling around and become friends. They fall for each other but Cyan won't commit before he has saved enough money to open his photography studio and can leave escorting behind and fully commit to Griffin. Such a lovely story and I loved all the banter. Can't wait for Reid and Riley's story next.

There’s an awesome amount of care and gentleness, as well as some steam and a bit of humor as well in this story, and it makes for an engaging read with little angst. There’s an interesting mixture of tropes here too: slow burn, escort/client with feelings dynamics, and some strong friends-to lovers energy. Griffin’s approach to the relationship felt, at times, a bit disingenuous— I understand his motivations, but still. Overall, however, the characters are likable and the chemistry is real, which makes for an enjoyable read. The romance can stand alone, but readers who enjoy this book might also want to check out the previous book in the series.

Griffin is a student, wants to own a bookstore and is a virgin. Cyan is a student, aspiring photographer, and an escort. Griffin hires Cyan to "rid" him of his virginity in a romantic way. But Cyan is so attracted to him, he convinces him to string it out with various lessons until he is ready. This book was really hot! The boys inter spread their sessions with silly humor, lots of friend time and charitable works. But what was best was the intense friendship they built along the way with some angst and lots of sweetness and kindness. They were meant to be together. This was the second book in these friends' series. I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.

Griffin loves historical romances & wants romance for himself, but only for one night. What he doesn’t know is that Cyan has had a crush on him for a while now. They work out a trade, & instead of just one night together, they end up spending a few nights getting to know one another.

“Can I borrow a kiss? I promise to give it back.”

They are just so cute with their flirting...

Will Griffin be able to get his happily ever after?

Just a quick note, though... When the song “Lady in Red” is mentioned, I have to say that this is by Chris de Burgh, not Simply Red.

This was a nice, cute story.

Hopeless For You is an extra sweet, friends to lovers story. I love Raquel Riley’s writing style, it’s very easy to follow and flows nicely.

In this book Griffin decides he is ready to lose his virginity and decides to hire Cyan to do it. I was a little put off with the story line because Griffin and Cyan were continuing to become close friends while Griffin was planning to hire him for months and Cyan didn’t know about it.

This book is somewhat of a slow burn, there’s some angst and quite a few miscommunications/arguments as both characters deal with some insecurities. I did really enjoy the side characters, specifically Riley and Reid, I would love to read their story because the build up is amazing!

Overall I enjoyed this story and the characters were very likable. 3/5 🌟

Can’t believe what Griffin and Cyan go through in their story! Joy, pain, heartache and angst! A lot of humor as well for our leading main and supportive cast!

I loved Griffins relationship with his mom and the books he reads! As a person who started out reading historical romances it was a sweet reminder of the dreams of romance I had!

Every page brings you all the things you could want for this story and for hints at the next!

Author paints a picture with words!

Book 2 in Hearts For Hire series. This is a 'new to me' author. I haven't read book 1, in this series, but I plan to after enjoying this story as much as I did. I want to know more about Lucky and Hayes and the business Lucky Match.

This author was able to paint a picture with her words. I felt like I was part of the story instead of just being told a story... I was totally along for the ride. The characters were so engaging. For college age students they seemed to have their heads screwed on pretty straight.

This is an opposites attract, friends to lovers, bookish 21 year old virgin and a flirty male escort, low to medium angst.

So much better.

I enjoyed this one way more than the first. I was able to connect better. I felt for these guys and could understand Cyan’s reasons but felt he could have made the decision sooner. I felt Griffin handled their last disagreement wrong. He knew Cyan was trying to get there and didn’t have a problem before. Patience was what he needed to work on. I can’t wait for Riley and Reid’s book.

Sweet and sassy

Oh wow. I loved book two even more than the first story!! Cyan and Griffin were so good together, their chemistry was off the charts.

This story was filled with so many tropes I loved. Filled with steam, romance and growth, these characters were flawed and relatable.

There was one scene that made me want to hug Cyan and just be there for him... and there were other times I was eager for Cyan to realize what was right in front of him could dissappear. Over all I loved this story and I'm extremely invested in this series. I can't wait for the next book!!!

Super sweet low angst romances are my absolute favourite thing to read and this one just really hit the spot for me. Add friends to the lovers to the mix and you just have me, I was so sold to the premise of this book and this book did not dissapoint me, at all. I just enjoyed reading this book so much, it was so sweet and made me swoona lot. I had a very lovely time reading this book.

Heartbreaking cuteness overload.... for me is the best description of these two....

Griffin, adores historical romances and feels that would be the ideal way to lose his virginity, hes never found the right man to give it to either. Thinking an escort might be best after working out who, they might be he requests the one man that has made his heart flutter, like a heroine in his novels.

Cyan, is using escorting as a means to an end. Yes he enjoys what hes doing and getting money for having fun is great... bit when his crush opens the door to the hotel room and offers his virginity... Cyan decides he needs to sweep Griffin off his feet and hide him away from ALL other prying eyes.

These two make an adorable couple, when they actually .... ya know... talk stuff out...
Ive definatelt loved book 2 in the series and CANNOT wait for book 3
