Broken Justice is a gripping novel with a twist on pride and arrogance, morality, and punishment in the age of the #metoo era. Perfect for fans of James Chandler, Robert Bailey, and John Grisham.
‘We have a problematic situation on our hands’ – A brilliant new detective mystery!
Israeli author T.J. Warsha earned his degrees in law, film, and television and is the founder of Israel’s leading immigration law firm. In addition to practicing law, he lectures at universities and appears on television and is responsible for promoting important laws and precedents. BROKEN JUSTICE is his debut novel publication.
Warsha’s experience as a lawyer dealing with cases of sexual assault provides significant depth to this novel, and he introduces an aging former detective – Harry Mitchel – as a figure who could well become popular with the reading public, especially if the author elects to continue this as a series. Warsha’s writing style is submersive, just the quality that coins the finest detective thrillers.
After a brief but compelling opening chapter dealing with an unexpected death in a Psychiatric Hospital, Warsha warmly introduces his primary characters – ‘Joey tiptoes slowly, quietly into his father’s empty room. Harry Mitchel was asleep on the porch, and old, faded, flat cap over his eyes. He had yielded to the warmth of the sun and the chirping of the birds at noontime. Joey crossed the floor, his steps as silent as he could make them. He approached the dresser where he knew the keys of Harry’s vehicle rested in a coconut bowl. It was a white Jeep, worn with use, but definitely well preserved.’ A recorded loud bark, and a comment from drowsing Harry – “You know the Jeep’s off-limits, Joey. Now get our and let me get some sleep.” And thus we meet the father son team, living in the Everlasting Peace hotel, a quiet beginning as the story is set in motion, related with all the thrust of fine thriller fashion.
The well paced plot is shared in the synopsis: ’When Roman Anderson, a renowned professor, is invited to a weekend retreat at a remote hotel with the Hollywood actors set to star in a new movie based on his book, he feels like he is living the dream. But Anderson is unaware that his enchanting weekend is about to take a sinister turn. Staying at the hotel with them is a group of women from a public relations firm, one of whom, Amy Rogers, accuses Anderson of rape. Anderson immediately pleads his innocence, but the evidence is stacked against him and the noose around his neck tightens as the days go by. The bloodthirsty public and media are crying out for his incarceration, and in a desperate attempt to save himself, Anderson hires the services of former detective Harry Mitchel and his 17-year-old son, Joey. As they delve into the case, skeletons from the past will reemerge, revealing the complicated relations between ethics and law, justice and vengeance, men and women, particularly in the age of #metoo. Will the truth ever be brought to light?’
It is apparent that T.J. Warsha has the talent to become a major figure in the literary world. Writing of this quality is rare – and most welcome! Very highly recommended
The book begins with a rape and brings torment of the rapist. Several characters are quite deep and shows realistic interactions. The ending is very unusual, and all characters bring real actions. I couldn't stop reading until the end and thought wow!
The book contains some good character development and a compelling plot. It also contains some appalling legal inaccuracies. Some things happen in this novel that defy all sense of reality.
