Jade Alters is the author of paranormal romance novels featuring alpha males and feisty women who want a man more than they need him. She distinctly remembers stumbling upon her sister’s romance novel, Daphne du Maurier’s classic Rebecca, at a young age. Boy was she in for a surprise!
Today, after many career twists and turns, Jade spends her days writing - as long as the coffee doesn’t run out, exploring foodie destinations and making questionable decisions. She makes sure her worlds, both real and imaginary, contain a healthy dose of magic.
After her husband goes missing presumed dead Luciana (FMC) whilst working for Doctors without Boarders gets a letter that changes her life. Her father died leaving her a ranch in Australia. A new beginning and a chance to find out more about her father. Living there opens her eyes to more than just her father though. Two brothers that live next door - Warwick and Dane. Dane is secretive and distrustful whereas Warwick is just sweet and flirty. I really liked the relationship between Luciana and Warwick. Yes it was tentative (which is understandable with the brother background) bit it was also steamy in a gentle way. I really liked this book. Its a great read and im looking forward to Dane's book now
An enjoyable story that is a little different to the normal shifter tropes. It is set in Australia, although I did not feel the setting was particularly Australian.
This is a love between a human Phoenix Warwick and a half mortal Luciana.
I'm not gonna spoil the ending for anyone. Read and find out what happened to Warwick's brother. This was a really good book, I enjoyed it. Enough so that I'd go back and reread it just for the fun of it.
Luciana has inherited some property in an isolated part of Australia, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Due to the disappearance of a fellow doctor in Burkino Fasa where they both worked for Doctors Without Borders, she is in the need of some R&R before she gets herself or someone killed due to her inattention. Though she did not know her father well, she is astonished to find that he was running a secret refuge for magical creatures, along with some non-magical ones. Though he left her extensive notes it is easy to read "milk the cows," it is not so easy to figure out how to do it. Fortunately, one of her nearest neighbors offers his assistance. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to be any better at it than she is.
Warwick and his brother Dane are phoenix shifters who have been staying on the down-low for years. When a neighboring property is inherited by someone they don't know they are cautious about introducing themselves, at least until Warwick sees Luciana. He is stunned by her beauty and offers to help her out. For some reason, he can't seem to get himself together when he is around her and makes a less than stellar showing of milking a cow. She is not impressed. When poachers show up at her property and start shooting at her though, Warwick and Dane show up to lend assistance. On the plus side they run off the men, on the minus side, Dane gets shot and dies. Or at least he is dead temporarily before being reborn in his phoenix fire. Oops. That cat is so out of the bag.
I will tell you no more. This was a nice little story and I hope Dane finds his mate soon. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
Luciana is a toxicologist and is working with Doctors without boarders, he boyfriend David died when a flood swept him away, but Luciana keeps seeing what she thinks is David. Then while she is treating a patient one day, she takes off while treating them and chases after who she thinks is David. When she catches up with the object she was chasing, she discovers it’s an animal. So as a punishment, she is sent home. But her father died and instead of returning to Brazil, she goes to Australia where her father was living.
She moves to her fathers farm where she discovers she is now responsible for mythical creatures and her father left her a diary on how to handle them. But across the road from her farm lives two men. But these men are not human. They are phoenixes, and they are very distant at first, that is until Warwick, the eldest decides that he should introduce himself and see if she needs any help. His brother Dane is angry with him. Warwick discovers that Luciana is his mate and is determined to win her over.
They start to explore their feelings for each other after an attack by poachers shoot Dane and he dies before her eyes. But when he revives in a burst of flames, she knows there is something different about them and they discuss their future. Luciana is now looking for an antidote after she learns that the only thing that can kill them is Phoenix poison. Then Dane is kidnapped by Supernaturals and then he is returned to kill Warwick. Luciana discovers that her antidote works. The three of them now need to prepare for the future and always be aware that danger can be around the corner.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and review with my honest and fair opinion.
Luciana is a doctor with Doctors Without Borders. Her fiancé disappeared seven months ago and she has been struggling ever since, and it has been affecting her work, putting herself and her colleagues in danger. She is sent on a month long break so she can get herself together. As she is supposed to leave, she gets a letter saying her father has died and left her his ranch in Australia. Having nowhere else to go, she heads to Australia fully intending to sell the ranch. When she gets there she discovers a ranch full of “mythical” animals that he has been caring for. She never really knew her father and doesn’t understand why he would leave her anything, let alone something like this. Then she meets her next door neighbor, Warwick. She doesn’t know that Warwick and his brother are Phoenix’s and also care for any “other” phoenix creatures that need them. Warwick recognizes Luciana as his mate, but doesn’t want to scare her by rushing her into a relationship. So he offers to come over every day and help her care for the animals. Dane is against the relationship because he fears she may “sell” them out to the hunters and supernatural’s that are constantly trying to kill them. This a fabulous book that I couldn’t put down once I started it. I don’t want to give away the story, but you will be blown away. I can’t wait for the 2nd book to come out.
Luciana works for Doctors Without Borders, and she gets put on forced leave because she left her teammates when she thought she spotted her missing boyfriend. She gets a letter from her father's attorney telling her that he has passed away & she has inherited his land in Mundaring, Australia. Once she gets there she meets her neighbors Warwick and Dane. Warwick is kind and funny, whereas Dane is the serious one. As she spends time with Warwick, her feelings start to grow. However, one day when Warwick is making a pick up of supplies in a larger city Dane is kidnapped. When he shows back up, he's not himself, but a tool of the Supernatural and he's there to kill Warwick. I won't give any more away about the story as it would all be spoilers, and you have to read this one.
The characters are well-developed and written with great world building. Luciana is a strong and independent female lead. Warwick is lovable and will do anything for his mate even die without the possibility of rebirth in the ashes. Ends with an HEA.
Luciana goes to Australia to her father's place after he dies because she needs a break and to decide what to do next. She turns to the next door neighbors Dane and Warrick for help especially when its seems like trouble comes to the ranch. Warrick is drawn to Luciana and wants to help her. They get closer the more time they spend together. When intruders try to steal from Luciana and Dane ends up getting hurt will she learn their secret? Will she turn away from Warrick once she knows what they are?
This is an amazing story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
Mated in Flames, book one in the Burnt Skies series follows Luciana Martinez and phoenix shifter brothers Dane and Warwick. When Luciana’s father dies, he leaves her a ranch down in the Austrailia, though little does she know that the farm is a home for a mix or regular animals as well as supernatural animals. When she meets her new neighbours, Warwick and Dane, things between her and Warwick begin to heat up and Warwick discovers that Luciana is his mate. But when Dane is kidnapped, and everything seems to be unraveling around them, will Luciana and Warwick be able to stay together? Or will something tear them apart?
Who is Luciana? Where do we find her? Who is Alice Lee and why are they running? What is going on? Who are Alex, David, Dane, and Warwick? How does Luciana know or meet them? Where does Luciana go when forced to take time off? Things get interesting fairly quickly in this story! What problem does Luciana offer to help with? What happens when Dane is kidnapped? We find him different when he returns, how and why? What is required of Luciana at that point? What do we discover about her? What does she discover about herself?
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
I love it. This history is full of funny moments, romance and steamy scenes. The relationship between the brothers is awesome they are so different Dane is paranoid and so antisocial, but Warrick is so playful and lovely that is impossible no to love. They always in the run from the supernaturals .Everything chance when Luciana moves in at the farm across the street. Luciana is amazing , she's always looking after other people and trying to understand way their parents keep secrets for her.
This is my first book by this author, and my first book about phoenixes. I liked how they had other animals, other then the phoenixes. That was quite interesting. I enjoyed how they got to know each other, Luciana & Warwick, and how close they got. I liked both brothers and the differences between the two, with Warwick being more fun and laid back, and Dane being more serious and down to business. And I loved how when danger came, they all worked together. Very much enjoyed this!
I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. I loved that Luciana was in Doctors Without Borders and inherited her fathers ranch. I liked Warwick and that he was a Phoenix who knew Luciana was his mate. I loved that the ranch was more than just a ranch. This story did a good job of keeping my interest the whole time and I look forward to more books in the series. I received an ARC and am leaving my honest and voluntary review.
Mated in Flame This is Luciana and Warwick’s story. Luciana’s fiancé disappeared, and her father dies leaving her his property in Australia where she meets her neighbors Warwick and Dane, phoenix shifters. Warwick and Dane rescue magical creatures. I love this tale and the characters, the drama, action and interesting storyline kept me so wrapped up in this tale, I couldn’t put it down. It feels like there’s another story to tell, I hope so. I highly recommend this tale.
She had just put her crew in jeopardy, chasing the ghost of David, the boyfriend that had disappeared. So, they recommended she had a sabbatical, away from the job, that appears to be the only thing she had left. As one door closed, another opens, as so often happens in life, the death of her father and the inheritance of a farm, in Australia, had her moving in a new direction. What she finds there, is astounding, to say the least. Yeah, an excellent read.
I really enjoyed this story. I loved Warwick and Luciana, such great characters. In this genre you don't find a lot of originality but I found in this book I found that. Very impressed with this author. I don't know if there will be a follow up book but I would like to see one. I want to see what happens with Dane.
I enjoyed this read, Luci is a good character, she's strong, independent, and smart as a whip. I also really enjoyed the brothers, their relationship is beautiful and strong and Dane grew on me as he was pulled in more and more. The romance is adorable and the danger is thrilling. Overall this was a quick and good paranormal romance read with a delightful HEA.
This was sweet story. One passionate woman and lots of surprises. Being just dropped into paranormal world she did handle it like a pro. Story was entertaining and idea nice. The world - interesting. The guys - hot and unique. It was enchanting read.
I really enjoyed this one. Phoenix shifters have never really been my thing, but I loved the spin put on this one. I loved the fast pace and change of setting from Burkina Faso to Australia. Great characters, well written and constructed, this is a great read.
There aren't many phoenix shifter stories to find. First mention of human phoenix, fox phoenix, cat phoenix, etc. Wonder if they'll ever discover how her dad found the supernatural animals he had?
I really enjoyed this immensely! A nice easy read but with a bit of a mystery as well. The characters are relatable and I loved the the paranormal element to it. Looking forward to more books in this series.
This is a good well written shifter romance.it starts with a scene from Doctors Without Borders and moves quickly to small town in Australia. It is a good example of why you should keep in touch with family. I enjoyed the story.
Full of heart, this story shows how people can overcome the odds and come out better and stronger. They decided to stay and fight back instead of running away. Love can conquer all. I recommend this story to paranormal romance lovers.
Mates in Flames: An Australian Fancy Shifted Paranormal Romance
Thought I would read this series while I wait for my other book to come out the end of the month. Omg I'm hooked can't wait to download the next book. That is now.
Luciana meets Warwick when she moves to her inherited farm. A journal guides her to care for the various animals, and it also answers many of her questions about herself and her parents. I enjoyed this book very much.
It was a different story - in a good way. It was my first Phoenix shifter story. I want more of those. I want a friend to Dane, if they can’t share.... I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
