Can the treasured bonds of decades-long friendship be restored before it’s too late?
Cilla Prescott faces her golden years angry and alone. Two houses down, her best friend has turned the world away—including Cilla—with much animosity and no explanation. After a childhood of sour lemons that Cilla worked hard to exchange for a life of sweet oranges, this isn’t how things were supposed to pan out.
When a devastating accident shakes their neighborhood to its very foundations, Cilla’s past comes back to haunt, and the women find themselves at a crossroads. Can they set anger and pride aside to find healing and forgiveness before time runs out, or are they destined to live their remaining years bitter and lonely?
This emotionally charged story captivates and inspires with its poignant tale of grief, forgiveness, and the healing power of laughter. In Pullman Station, where life is full of surprises and generations intertwine, the true essence of friendship is unveiled—a bittersweet melody that whispers of hope and second chances. When you find yourself thinking about characters as if they are real people and wondering what they’re up to, that’s some pretty affirming praise for an author. I found myself doing that with this book. Although I really didn’t put it down much. Lol It has the feel good vibe to me of Steel Magnolias and Hope Floats. I immediately cared about the characters and was sad when the story was over. What a great job this author did spinning this tale. Great great book. I was completely riveted throughout. I’m telling my friends and I don’t always do that because I read a lot of books. It takes a lot for me to refer one. I’ve had this book for a day and have told three people i know to get it. And now I’ve told all of you reading this review. Get this book! And you’re welcome. ; )
What a beautiful debut novel spanning generations. So well written and with an easy flow of words bringing the characters to life. A story which resonates with long standing and precious friends sharing laughter and tears. Congratulations Jen Telger!! Looking forward to your next novel.
What a beautifully written, entertaining, and uplifting story. The author has a masterful way with words, the language is easy to read but at the same time witty and ingenious. Great character and story development that had me not wanting to put it down. Totally a delight!
Sweet story set in a small Midwestern town. I loved the characters Cilla, Nattie and the Maple Street kids. Well written to capture the reader. The story pulls at your heartstrings and keeps you smiling with humor. I rarely rate a book 5 stars, but this one was definitely top rate from being to end. Hoping it turns into a series of books. Would make a great movie too!
This is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It’s the story of longtime friends who have a falling out. Cillia and Nattie met through their husbands, who met while at war. When their husbands came home, Cilla’s husband moved them from Boston to Minnesota to start a business with Nattie’s husband. The two had never met but became the best of friends. They both end up losing their husbands around the same time. Instead of leaning on each other through this difficult time, misunderstandings tear them apart. Many years pass until the truth is discovered, but will it be too late to forgive and rekindle what they once had? I highly recommend this book. I will be looking for more books by this author.
I would recommend this book to people my age - Mid sixties, because for me, it brought back so many memories from my childhood, and then through to now. An excellent read, going back to easier days of playing outside, respecting our elders, and genuinely caring about people of all ages. These days today move to fast, and it's sad because there are so many things to learn n see as young people that are right outside your door - not on a computer. I truly loved this book.
This was a great book, especially for those of us fortunate enough to have grown up in this timeline. Memories of childhood freedom, coupled with loving parents and neighbors that fill in family roles seem to be gone now. But the lessons to be learned come shining through in this delightful book! Hope you have as much fun as I did reading it.
