ENCORE 'GOLD' showcases work from across Liam's extensive career, presenting much of the hyper-detailed art in it's black and white unlettered form for the first time in print - from the spectacular high fantasy of THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD: BATMAN AND WONDER WOMAN, to the incredibly intricate sci-fi realms of THE GREEN LANTERN.
Within these pages you will also find many examples of Liam's full-color work - both traditional and digital - which pays homage to the masters of the past whilst also pushing boundaries and breaking new ground in the industry.

The first volume of the collected work of one of my favorite artists includes fine examples of Sharp’s skilled work across a wide variety of genres - fantasy, cosmic, gothic, industrial, and others. All presented in a beautifully produced package which definitely left me wanting more. Looking forward to receiving the other two volumes.
I've respected and admired Liam Sharp's art for years now. This is a great collection of just a small portion of it.Presented well and a beautiful book added to my collection.
A look at an artist who has, according to the forward by comic writer Grant Morrison, multiversatility. And I'm not sure if that's a strength or weakness. I've been thinking about it and I genuinely do not know how to sum up Liam's art. It doesn't fit into any one box.
Funded on Kickstarter, this is the first of Liam's ENCORE art books: Gold. To be followed by Silver (already funded) and Bronze. This particular volume is full of his comic book work: covers and interior pages. Paintings and hand drawn illustrations. My only quality issue is that I do wish some of the older pieces had been touched up as they appear quite dark in the book. (The Deaths Head 2/X-Men poster reprint is a prime example of this.) Primarily you're going to see a ton of muscled up men and monsters in this book.
Aside from the Forward and a brief author's profile there is next to no writing. I don't know that I'd recommend this book to Joe Public. Certainly the quality of Sharp's art is on display here. That said, I do wish the artist was more of a presence in the book. Talking about his art. The choices and techniques employed in their creation.
The book itself is amazing quality with a lot of love put into it thanks to the Kickstarter. Dust jacket, embossed cover, reading ribbon, glossy paper. It's impressive packaging.
The book, like the author, is hard to sum up. I'll just say that when it comes to art, I know what I like. I like this book. I can't promise you will.
