Can this older mountain man protect a curvy girl on the run?

Emma
Sure, I'm an adult, but my life is run by my parents.
Do as they say, live how they say, marry who they say.
I'm content to live the life they chose, until I bump into a big, tattooed stranger who changes my mind about everything.
He's protective, sweet, and hot as hell.
Trouble is, my father would never let a guy that looks like Maddox in the family.
He's too big, too brooding, too... tattooed.
Then again, who says I need my dad's permission?

Maddox

The second I see Emma, I know I have to have her.
She's gorgeous, smart-assed, and has curves for days.
Not to mention, she is in desperate need of help.
It's a combination, I can't resist.
I'll do anything to protect her, and she will be mine.
I won't take no for an answer.

This is a sweet and steamy, age gap romance. As always, this title comes with Khloe’s ‘Easy Escape Seal’, a no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA guarantee.

Brief summary
Emma is a party on Rugged Mountain she isn’t having much fun. There she meets Maddox, a very hot and tattooed mountain main. Maddox is star struck by Emma and he just wants to be with her. They end up together and in love.

I really enjoy when relationships start a little awkward and the two characters don’t really know how to interact with each other yet because they just met and they don’t want to mistakingly say the wrong thing and it was the case in this book and I really really enjoyed that. I thought it was the sweetest thing and I loved how it led to them getting way more comfortable with each other through their conversations. I loved how they got comfortable with each other over the course of the book.

These two were just so sweet together. I loved how they were always complimenting each other and just enjoying their time together, it was just so sweet. I loved how much they just wanted to spent time together, that just really worked for me. I really enjoyed how Maddox was ready to do things that he doesn’t feel the most comfortable doing just so he could spend time with Emma. I liked how he went out of his way to show Emma that he liked her, that just really worked for me. I loved how they both just wanted to time together, that was so sweet and it really worked for me.

Maddox is a tattoo artist and there was a lot of talk about his job and as someone who really enjoys tattoos and getting tattoed, I just thought it was so much fun to read about that.

Emma is from a rich family who has a lot of expectations for her and she’s trying her best to uphold them all. But a lot of this book is her breaking free of those expectations and living the life she wants and I was couldn’t her but cheer her own, I was so happy for her to fighting to the life she wants for herself and I really enjoyed reading about that part of the book.

I absolutely liked Maddox. Very protective men who would do everything to keep their partner safe are my absolute kryptonite in books and he was just the perfect example of that. I loved how protective he was and how he just wanted to make sure that Emma was alright at all time. I just kept swooning over how protective he is.

If I had to say one thing, this book had some social commentary, that I just didn’t really vibe with, thankfully they didn’t really impact my enjoyment of the book but I just wanted to mention them because they weren’t really my cup of tea.

This book is short, which I do enjoy a lot, but I thought that there was a little too many plot points in the story. I just wanted everything to be developed a little more. But it didn’t really impact my reading experience because I had such a good time reading this one.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion

Can they speak full sentences?

I would've given this book a higher rating, but sentences being constantly caught off when one of them is speaking drove me nuts. They never let the other one finish a sentence.

Other than that it's a typical Insta-love story.

This is a quick read. The amount of pages does not allow much in the way of character development, but it's enough.

This man fell hard! And she needs a hero.. This is exactly what an Alpha insta-love is supposed to be.

Don't expect this to have the depth of a 12-thousand word romance read, and you should enjoy this one. 😉

Good short read

Good short story! I liked this heroine a lot more than the first one and the hero was adorable. I’m not usually a fan of shorter stories but I really enjoyed this one.

Somebody lied to me on a Facebook post about what this was about. This was mediocre at best. The plot is semi-developed, and the characters are underdeveloped.

WOW!! I couldn't put this one down. I absolutely love it!! This was a nice quick, short read.

Maddox meets Emma when she's at the bar with her boyfriend, Shane. She's in Rugged Mountain for the final prep for her sisters wedding and her boyfriend, Shane wanted to stop at the bar. Emma doesn't drink much and she is getting bored sitting and waiting for him. So she goes to make a phone call to her best friend Eric who owns the salon she works at. When she tells Eric she is still at a bar in Rugged Mountain he tells her her first appointment in the morning is at one so she doesn't have to worry about being at work early. Before Emma hangs up with her friend she hears someone behind her, Maddox tells her it's cold out. She doesn't even say goodbye to Eric she just slides her phone away. Maddox asks her if she's lost and she tells him she just needed some fresh air. They introduce them and start talking about why she's in Rugged Mountain, he tells her he owns the tattoo parlor next door with his brother. Her boyfriend, Shane soon comes stumbling out of the bar and falls to the ground when Emma tries to help he he shoves her away and she falls. Maddox helps Emma up then goes after Shane for pushing her, Emma tells him to stop that he's her boyfriend and he didn't mean to do it. Maddox notices a cut on her knee and wants to clean it up for her but she tells him she's fine. Maddox tells Emma that Shane should never push a woman, and Emma tells him he's not usually like this he's under a lot of pressure at work. When Shane tells her to let's go, Maddox tells her not to go with him, she's driving but he doesn't want her driving at night in the mountains. Emma tells him she has to go to work in the morning, Shane tells Maddox that they are good. Maddox tells Emma he'll pay for them to stay at the motel, she tells him they're fine. Maddox tells her then he'll follow her back to Colorado Springs, Emma asks him if he'll compromise, she'll give him her number and she'll call him when she is safe at home. Over the next week Maddox reads the message over and over that Emma sent him, that's she's was home and safe then thanked him for looking out for her. Maddox goes to Henry's Restless to watch Raven while his brother takes his wife, Cami out. After Henry and Cami leave he looks to Raven to ask her what he should do, he decides to call Emma. Maddox finds out that Emma broke up with Shane when Eric pipes in, then he tells him she needs a date for her sister's wedding this weekend. Maddox tells Emma he doesn't mind taking her, she tells him he doesn't need to do that, but he tells her he wants to. Emma tells Maddox she's sorry her friend Eric is butting into their business, but Maddox tells her it's fine he was going to look for ways to come into the city until she agreed to go out on a date with him. While on his way home, Emma calls Maddox to let him know he forgot his credit card, he asks her to call him later at night. They talk about the wedding, Emma tells Maddox about her dreams of owning her own hair salon in a small town, she tells him about her family and how controlling her father is. Emma tells him she is going to pay her father back for her education so she can break the hold he has over her. How they had a love that everyone hopes for, but now their children can't find the love of their lives. Maddox confesses to Emma that he can't stop thinking about her, she tells him she can't stop thinking about him either. She tells him how much she loves listening to him, it could put her to sleep, so he tells her to get in bed and he'll talk to her until she does. The next day Emma shows up at his place and they are both ready to go to her sister's wedding, but she walks up to him and they begin to kiss. He trails kisses down her neck, he backs up to the porch and sits, she straddles him. Her father tells her she is to be dating Shane but when she tells him what he did, her father tells her they'll get him some help. Her father tells her he needs to talk to her privately her father tells her this is nonsense, she is to be dating Shane. Emma tries to give her father the money she saved, but he tells her he doesn't want her pennies, she's a disgrace. Then her mother comes and joins them, asking who Maddox is. Emma tells them both she's done, but her mother tells her she's embarrassing them. Emma tells them she's done trying to make them happy, she never will. When her father grabs her Maddox steps in and tells him not to touch her, her father tells him he's her daughter if he wants to grab her he will. Maddox asks her if she wants him to leave she tells him no they are done here. Her father tells her if she's done she can leave she's no longer welcomed at the wedding. Emma tells them she's not leaving she's here for her sister. Then her sister is standing behind them, her sister, Kayla tells them she's not getting married. Her father tells Kayla yes she is getting married, Kayla tells him that Ryan is cheating on her and doesn't make her happy. Her father tells Kayla she doesn't get a choice everyone is here, she's getting married. Kayla tells him she's not getting married, Emma grabs her sisters hand and tells her parents they're leaving. When they turn her father blocks them, but Maddox is bigger, taller and he tells her father, they're leaving. Maddox goes and gets his truck and they leave, Emma gives the money to her sister. Maddox tells Kayla he has a friend who has some cabins she can stay in until she gets herself together. After they drop off Kayla at a rental cabin his buddies owns, they head to Maddox's home. Emma thanks him for helping them today, she's never had anyone protect her like he has. Maddox tells her she's his, he protects what's his. Maddox pulls over and then Emma tells him she's a virgin, he wants to take her back to his home but she tells him she needs him now. Maddox tells her that he loves her and Emma tells him she loves him too. Emma tells him about the property for sale on Main Street he knows about it since he owns it with his brother, Henry. She tells him what her idea is to open a hair salon, he tells her she can have the place. She tells him she has enough saved up, he tells her it's her conversation over. Six months later, Emma is opening her hair salon, Maddox is there when she puts the finishing touches on. The bell rings over the door, and Eric walks in with the last of the supplies she needs. When they turn they see a line of customers waiting for her to open. The first one to walk in is her sister, Kayla. Emma tells Maddox she has a gift for him she's been wanting to give it to him all morning. He tells her she didn't have to get him anything. When he opens the box it's a pregnancy test that's positive. Maddox asks her if she's pregnant and she tells him yes, he's happy. Maddox isn't sure what he did to deserve her love but he knows he's never leaving her go.

Talk about meeting at the right time. Just when Emma is trying to figure her way out of a few toxic situations in her life, she meets Maddox. Maddox wanted to help and protect Emma from the start and I absolutely loved that, no questions asked he just wanted her to be happy. I was so happy Emma was able to stand up for herself, help her sister and follow her dreams. The best kinda insta love story!

Their gazes meet and time freezes

Broken is the second book in the Rugged Mountain Ink series and is a nice addition and extension to the first book, Restless. Emma Wordhill is twenty-four years old and lives in the Springs, which is a two hour drive from Rugged Mountain. She is on the mountain with her boyfriend Shane to help get the venue ready for her sister Kayla's wedding in two weeks. They finished things several hours ago but Shane wanted to get a drink and it is now late and he is completely drunk, and wanting to drink even more. Kayla is the second daughter of the richest man in Colorado Springs and rebelled while growing up. But when she wanted to go to beauty school and needed money from her father to do it she all of a sudden found herself under his thumb, and that meant being paired up with Shane. Maddox and his brother Henry own Rugged Mountain and all the buildings in the town, including the tattoo studio which they opened together and work at. When he spots a young woman on the street outside the local bar in town he is drawn to her, but not sure why. So when a man comes out and is not only belligerent towards her but also pushes her which knocks her down he is ready to teach him a lesson on how to treat a woman. Thus he meets Emma and her douche bf Shane. Maddox ends up getting Emma's business card and calls her the next morning to make an appointment to have his hair cut, as he will be in town, not likely but he is not about to tell her that. All Maddox knows is that he needs to pursue this lovely woman that speaks to his soul, as he knows she is meant to be his even though he has never felt like this before.

This is an entertaining story with a fast pace and an engaging story-line. I liked Maddox and Emma and the journey they both go on to end up together. It may not be conventional but it is true love and gets them their HEA.

The things we do for others Emma is planning her sister’s wedding with man she doesn’t really want to be with, but her father felt it was his place to pick who his daughter date, but this man isn’t a nice person he is an abusive drunk who likes to hurt her and one evening while he was hurting her this sexy man helps steps us to help her. Maddox a sexy as all get out mountain man cares for others, the moment he lays eyes on the most beautiful girl he has ever seen he knows she is meant to be his and when he sees the jerk hurt her it takes everything in him not to go on the war path. He can’t help to wonder why she is with such a horrible man, but the moment she is strong enough to stand up to her father waking away from that jerk Maddox is there to help put her back together, he will do everything to show her that she belongs with him will he convince her, how will her father take her standing up to him losing his control, and can she find happiness?

2nd in the Rugged series. This features Maddox who is brother to Henry in the first story. Basically, the heroine Emma is in town with her “boyfriend”. She is there as her sister is going to get married at a venue in this mountain town. She is from a wealthy snooty family and often bucks her family’s ideas except where it comes to the boyfriend who has been handpicked by her parents. Now she has been with him for awhile, but they have never consummated their relationship.

Anyhoo, the Hero meets the h at the local bar as her boyfriend gets drunk and a little abusive. He is instantly taken with her. He ends up seeking her out a week later in her own hometown. They pair up for her sister’s wedding to the chagrin of her controlling parents. It seems her sister is also unhappy with her parents’ controlling ways and dumps her groom as well. (Of course she will get her own mountain man in the next book!)

KS gives up insta love fantasy with an age gap(complete with tingly crotches and huge endowments). There is a sweet epilogue. This is quick hour spent over morning coffee.

Emma and her boyfriend were at a mountain location for her sister's wedding when Shane decided to stop for a drink. This turns into more than one drink, and he ends up knocking her down outside. Maddox was outside talking to Emma before her boyfriend rushed outside and knocked her down. Maddox isn't happy about it especially when he learns she has a boyfriend and asks her to call him once they arrive home safely. Emma ends things with Shane and goes back to her normal routine of cutting hair. When Maddox makes in appointment for her to do his hair its just an excuse to see her again. What he learns has him happy because now he can pursue her. Will Emma go against her parents and be with Maddox? Can they have a future together?

This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Book 2 in Khloe Summers' Rugged Mountain Ink series, Broken, is a fast-paced, steamy short instalove. Emma has grown up in a life of privilege, but at the mercy of her controlling parents she has been a caged bird. When the older, tatted up Maddox rescues her from her parent-approved boyfriend's bad behaviour, Emma quickly realizes that maybe chasing her dreams is not an impossibility. Maddox feels protective over Emma from the moment they meet - along with a whole lot of other impure feelings. Will the large-bodied and equally as big-hearted alpha be able to help his young, innocent beauty spread her wings and fly? A well-written, engaging, fast-paced sexy and sweet instalove romance you won't be able to put down.

Really like

Emma was with her drunk boyfriend that her father wanted her to be with. She goes out for some air when she sees tall dark, handsome, tattooed guy. When her boyfriend comes out and pushes her Maddox defends her. This is the start of something wonderful. When she breaks up with her boyfriend, she noe needs a date to her sisters wedding. Her co-worker actually asks Maddox to go with her. After finishing up his haircut, he agrees to go.
At the wedding her father corners her and harassed her about bring Maddox.
Turn of events happen. Emma stands up to her father letting him know she is leaving with her boyfriend, Maddox. Her sister isn't getting married. Emma, Maddox and her sister walk out of their parents lives. Once broken, Emma is now whole with Maddox by her side.

Book two in this series. Maddox comes to Emma’s rescue when he sees her with her boyfriend. Now he can’t get her out of his mind. Emma has never felt the love or caring from her parents or the men her father sets her up with to advance his business. One look from Maddox has her wishing for more and feels he’s one of the good ones and not the bad boy he comes across as. This was a fast paced read with characters who had lots of chemistry and truly cared for one another. Maddox was protective of Emma but knew she was strong enough to accomplish anything she set her mind on. Emma was hardworking and knows what she wants and won’t stop until she gets it. Can’t wait for book three. Hopefully Kelly gets her HEA next. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In all honesty the title "Broken" made me envisage something more dramatic but if it was referring to the lead female character of Emma I don't think I would have labelled her that. I really liked Emma and thought she had a rather under-stated sense of resiliency and strength. Another issue I liked was reference to the old saying of "don't judge a book by its cover" in regards to our hot tattooed lead male character of Maddox and his whole sense of chivalry towards women. But for a quick romantic read it was really enjoyable. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Emma & we get Maddox's story. When this book opens we find Emma doing what she always does following her parents decisions for her life. When she goes to the bar with her parents choice for her she meets Maddox while outside for some air. There is something about this man that she can't forget. Maddox knows he shouldn't have let her go but he couldn't force her to stay. Now he wants forever with her. Can their get the HEA or will too many issues stand in their way?

Amazing story. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone

This is the second book in this amazing series and is Maddox and Emma’s story. Maddox is sweet, protective, broody, and tattooed, while Emma has her life controlled by her parents which is toxic. Maddox comes to Emma’s rescue one night, and there is an instant connection between them, but she knows that he is definitely not someone her parents would approve off. This is a well written fast paced story which is sweet, and with romance, engaging characters, and love, which leads to a entertaining and compelling page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I would love a Maddox!!

Emma has been under the thumb of her wealthy parents her whole life. Until one day, when she sets outside of a bar and meets a tattooed, gorgeous alpha mountain man. Maddox has longed to find the love of his life. He dreams of having someone to love and protect. One look at Emma, and he knows that she's the one for him. But, when they meet, Emma has a boyfriend. So what happens now? And can Emma pull away from her controlling parents? I loved this story!!

What a great love story

I did enjoy a good mountain man love story. This was a good one. I could visualize the area,, Maddox's tattoos, Emma's stupid parents and ex-boyfriend and the mountain's hometown area. Who wouldn't love to have a man like Maddox sticking up for you. Also glad Emma's sister didn't marry the man her father set her up with. Strange family dynamics, good story line there. All I can say is read the book and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Written by Cindy :)

Oh my was this book really and truly fantastic. Having a strong sexy older mountain man step up and want to help and take care of you, making you realize you dont need to deal with the bad in your life. This short story will make you swoon and fall in love with these two.
Emma has tried to make her parents proud but soon realized no matter what she they will never change unless she lives the life they plan for her.
Maddox knew from first sight Emma was special and was instantly protective of her. He could not get her off his mind and knew he had to do all he can to have her in his life.

These guys are dreamy!

I met Maddox in the first book, and thought he was lonely and little jealous of Henry’s relationship. It wasn’t surprising when he fell for Emma really hard. Emma, on the other hand, needed a giant shove. Shane was a total jerk, but he was who her father chose. So her life was “easier” if she cooperated. But easy wasn’t what she wanted, she wanted love. Maddox is all that wrapped up in a hunky package covered in tattoos. I love these books. You feel great after reading them and can’t wait to read more.

Toxic family

The man her father is making her date hurts her while drunk, in front of Maddox. Maddox is about to "take care of" it, but she won't let him. She leaves with the drunk who hurt her, but Maddox isn't done yet. He makes up a reason to come see her, ends up getting a date with her to her sister's wedding. That does not go over with her family.

This is a terrific book. I loved the characters and that they got to know each other. So it was more an instant attraction than and insta-love story. Maddox is an alpha guy with an old fashioned streak. Emma needed to find her backbone to get out of a situation and Maddox was great at supporting her through that. I liked Maddox more than I liked Emma but I thought they were great together.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

All her life Emma had been controlled by her parents clear down to who she dated and who she would eventually marry, but Emma had other plans. In getting ready for her sister's wedding in Rugged Mountain she met Maddox. He gave Emma the courage to break away from her parents. Even from the first moment these two experienced a strong attraction to each other. A wonderful insta-love story. I loved Maddox for Emma he brought out the greatness in her that her parents pushed down. Her parents had her whole life decided for her but when she met Maddox everything changed for them both. This is Emma and Maddox’s story. Maddox is Henry’s brother and he is kind of envious of what his brother now have with his wife and baby. That’s also when he met Emma with her boyfriend who doesn’t treat her like a boyfriend supposed to. That made him really protective of her. But until she get rid of him, he can’t do anything about it. I really enjoyed their story, it’s a pretty fast and sweet read.

I wish we’d stop putting naked men on covers it really outs us readers 🤣

Anyway short and sweet smutty read, I didn’t know it was that short when starting it!

Writing style was amateur and I feel like it could have had a lot more flesh to it but it was a cute and quick read. I paid for the book thinking it was a lot longer than it was which was my mistake so I’d only recommend if you need something to pass the time on KU 😄

good read

This was good. I loved how Maddox stood up for Emma a woman he barely knew. He even was concerned for her safety because her so called boyfriend was drunk. You don’t see that much now a days. Emma controlling dad wanted to run her life tell her who to date and who to marry. This was good the ending was a little good I am glad her sister came to her senses.

Tender and a bit hot
The story is predictable, but it also keeps its promise because it's a very good short romance, of Emma who seeks to break her chains from her family, and finally strats when she meets Maddox, a tattoo artist. Their story is an instalove, and it's also about self-esteem. Both are the strength of this story.
