Mydworth Mysteries #6

Mydworthin mysteerit: Lentäjätär vaarassa

Rate this book
Uhkauksia Mydworthin ilmatilassa

Mydworthin mysteerit on uusi sarja suosittujen Cherringhamin mysteerien kirjoittajilta.

Lady Lavinia saa ilokseen kartanoonsa uraauurtavan vieraan: lentäjä Amelia Earhartin.

Mydworthin mysteerit on kaksikon toinen yhteinen rikossarja.

Aviatrix Amelia Airhart has come to Mydworth to raise money to train more women pilots. She’s staying, naturally, with Aunt Lavinia Fitzhenry; however, even before Amelia lands — literally — her life is endangered. Can Sir Harry and Kat figure out the culprit? Of course! I had an inkling who the perpetrator was. Highly recommended nonetheless, as I completely missed the real motive.

Series: Mydworth Mysteries #6
Publication Date: 7/28/20
Number of Pages: 124

Famous aviatrix Amelia Earhart is in England doing a series of demonstrations/shows in order to raise money toward the “Ninety-Nines” – a new organization Amelia is helping found for all female aviators worldwide. Sandbourne Aviation has provided her with its newest aircraft, the Firefly, to use in her demonstrations, and it is a sweet, sweet little machine. Amelia has just finished a show in London and she, along with her sister, Pidge, American reporter Ronald Greene, scheduling agent Wallace Smythe, and chief engineer Paddy O’Brien are heading to a fundraiser at Mydworth Manor. Amelia will fly the Firefly while the others will travel in the bright yellow Rolls Royce – also provided by Sandbourne aviation.

The Firefly is a responsive and excellently performing plane, so Amelia decides to put it through its paces on the way to Mydworth. Then something happens with the plane – and Amelia’s life is in danger. Only her superb flying skills will save her and the plane. The landing might be a bumpy one, but it is a landing nonetheless.

Sir Harry, also a pilot, realizes that Amelia’s accident wasn’t an accident at all. With suspects galore, Harry and his wife Kat, comb through the clues and witnesses but have no real luck with identifying who or why. Will Harry and Kat manage to find the culprit before they succeed in harming Amelia?

There are many twists and turns – and lots of red herrings – in this delightful story. I hope you will have as much fun reading it as I did.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was not up to the standard of previous ones. Villains were easily identified in the first chapters and the response from the main characters was lukewarm at best. It seemed to be a vehicle to promote Amelia Earhart and flying. That is fine but was very disappointed it this one.

Någon i hennes entourage? Hennes mekaniker? Konkurrenterna till flygplanstillverkaren?
***
Mmmm…

This one didn't quite live up. Maybe I expected more because, well, Amelia Earhart, you know?

Not a really strong story, but I always think that the Amy’s worth stories aren’t as compelling as cherringham. We need a bit more background building on Harry and Cat. Plus they’re physical descriptions keep changing. It makes it hard to see them. That and the Amelia Earhart accent was terrible. I mean atrociously distracting. The narrator isn’t too strong on American accents and women so it was double whammy.

𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗻. (yes you can have your wife all you want Sir Harry 😂)

If you are interested in a cozy mystery that revolves around a dynamic couple, not only is their love intertwined beautifully, but it is more than a mundane marriage, they're a team.

I can never get enough of how they always and keep flirting with each other, smitten with each other. Sir Harry has the effect of mixing shameless flirting with humor.

Their romantic relationship in the middle of this mysterious crisis is comforting, so it's very acquit to its genre 'cozy mystery'. How cozy and 'English' this book is, I could really feel the ambience.

This time, it tells the story of an attempted murder, no murder happened. A vanishing evidence with anybody could be suspects.

I already can guess who's the culprit but not the really one behind it. So the reason i rate this 3 ★★★ is not because it's not good, it's really entertaining, i really love and enjoyed this but the plot / msytery doesn't blow my mind (that's all). It's just a really relaxing read, highly recommended when you're in reading slump 📖

Sixth in the series of 17 - I didn't want to wait for #5 on it's way from Amazon, so I went from #4 to #6. #5 came in yesterday. These books are addicting. They are short, fun and cozy mystery series. I love the witty, charm and relationship between Sir Harry and Lady Kat.

They live in a sleepy little English town 50 miles from London, but there's plenty of trouble brewing and someone needs their help.

This time around Lady Lavinia, Sir Harry's Aunt, is hosting the Great Amelia Earhart and others in raising money for the all-female pilots, The Ninety-Nines, in their planned continent-spanning air rally. But then Amelia's life is threatened and it's up to Harry and Kat to find out who it is. Unfortunately, it was an easy one to figure out. Regardless I still enjoyed the story.

I started on #5 - Deadly Cargo.

This one was a bit different. In some ways more suited to the class it is set in, it seemed more realistic. Life went on around the storyline as it normally would. Villains fairly easily identified - but was I actually right? Or was there going to be a sting in the tail. There was more exitement in the resolution of the problem than usual, and less tension in the solving of the crime. But who cares where the interest lies, as long as its there. The formula was diverted from sufficiently to add interest, but not enough to lose touch with the characters. It remains cozy and these are what it says on the tin. They fill my winter nights comfortably.

Amelia Earhart is undaunted by the most perilous of stunts in the air. However, she is terrified when she has to give a speech or a radio interview. But that is what it takes to launch her new project – the Ninety-Nines – a worldwide organization for women pilots. When her plane, with supposedly full fuel tanks, crash lands on her flight to Mydworth Manor, Sir Harry Mortimer and his wife Kat are on the case. A fun, light read.

Not their best work. I have read all the books in this series and like the main characters, but I was disappointed in this outing. It starts with a good premise of someone trying to kill Amelia Earhart, but it stalls there. No pun intended. The pace seems really slow and I knew the culprit almost from the beginning. I hope the next installment is better.

Entertaining short historical cozy featuring a real historic figure. All of the episodes in this series of short listens are fun--ordinary more than spectacular mysteries, but nicely plotted with characters one can enjoy spending time with. Well performed by Nathaniel Parker. Upgraded from 3.5 stars.

I like these characters as a rule and Mydworth Mysteries are good escape reading usually. However, compared to real Golden Age mysteries, this volume seems very formulaic. This reads like a plot outline for a TV show...and there are obvious reasons for that.

Good story

I'm not a fan of using historical figures in total fictional storylines, having said that I found this story kept your interest and gave some interesting views of early aviation and women pilots.

I don't mind formulaic. It's cozy. But this particular story in the series lacked...something that the previous ones had...can't quite name it. It was sort of boring to read. Maybe the next one with have that added pizazz that the others had.

Having Amelia Earhart was an added attraction, and the main couple are appealing. But this is likely the last of the Mydworth Mysteries I will read, as they are just not as compelling to me as the first one. They are almost like a television mystery show, just not for me.

We’ve got several suspects, but it was pretty easy to figure out who the bad guy was. Overall, it’s a fun story, but not my favorite of the series. As always, Harry and Kat are a wonderful team, both do their fair share of investigating and putting themselves in danger.

Car chase... CHECK!!!
Plane chase..... CHECK!!!
Who run the world? WOMEN!!!

I could already guess who was the "Bad Guy" after the first chapter just because of the vibes... There where many twists and turns figuratively and literally!!!!

I enjoy this series between longer books as they are fast paced and quick books to listen to. In this one Sir Harry and his lovely wife enjoy a visit from Amelia Earhart and the resulting mystery is a much deeper conspiracy than it first appears.

Book 6 and I enjoy each one a little more than the last. It's nice to watch the relationship / community build as the series progresses. It still irks me that they 'translate' every British idiom for the idiot American but it could be worse.

This had a little suspense going on with the story and the time period from a historical perspective was interesting. I have been enjoying this series and this was one of the better episodes in the series. I am also starting to like the main characters more with each episode.

Fun to read

A lovely book. Easy to follow and informative. Lighthearted. The early days of flying are important to appreciate. Amelia Earhart retains her appeal.
