I didn't expect Roman would be this mature. He's surprising me! Seeing him in the first book so dominant and possessive especially if about Isabella, who knew he would be into share?
The idea of Isabella has two mates is really interesting. That's what make me more curious about this sequel. Kylo comes as an arrogant Alpha turns out he is a better Alpha in any form is a huge deal. We do know how Roman intends to be the best, to be the top of the top, yet he can accept him despite of their bitter past. Maybe because Roman understand how important Divine Wolves are. Anyway, I'm happy to see Roman and Kylo rebuild their relationship. And their smut?? OMG.. SO HOTTT!!
And my baby Isabella, my brave girl, my strongest queen, amaze me more in this book. I'm not sure whether I'm happy or not seeing her relationship with Vanessa because I really hate her in the first book. But I hope it will be good for the future to fight against Dolus. She becomes a good Lycan, right?
Ah Roman, you are like many alpha's I have read about. You just didn't fess up to being a man-whore prior to your 18th birthday when you found out Isabella was your fated mate. Your past actions catch up with you and almost cause a significant break and maybe still will if Scarlett gets her way. Plus your voyeuristic ways - is it a turn on or a turn off for Isabella, your Luna? Should a Luna be seen that way by another unmated wolf? Vanessa still squirming her way into Roman's sights but is it really about Roman? Isabella is trying to lead the Lycans but met with challenges, including her dominating mate. Will another wolf catch her eye to relieve the stress of life with Roman? Plenty of HOT AF scenes and an ending that now has me on edge while waiting for book 3.
It wasn't a terrible book. the end did make me cry because it was a decent cliffhanger but the fact that a second mate was introduced later in the book instead of the beginning is a bit weird considering it's not 100% needed for character development. The plot was okay at best. Character development really wasn't there. It was constant sex scenes which I love smut for books but it felt repetitive when scenes are the same. The fact that Vanessa likes Isabella is fine but for Isabella to say she made her life hell without ever explaining how besides that Vanessa only ever flirted with Roman prior to even knowing Isabella and Roman were mates is reasonable. Then to suddenly become best friends after she became Luna and was the leader of the Lycans. To go from hating someone to being best friends rarely happens and if it does, it doesn't happen as instantly as the book makes it seem.
Then to add Kylo into the mix because Isabella is his mate from thousands of years ago since they're the divine warriors. When Roman was already a jealous possessive alpha. And Roman completely switching his tune to be more accepting and actually maturing. In the matter of weeks. Knowing that your Luna and mate wants to sleep with another wolf who was unmated. Especially when they hated each other prior to this, and suddenly he's completely fine with having threesomes with his ex best friend and his now mate. Roman did have some character development with wanting to make it work with Kylo but it just seemed rushed and sloppy thinking back on it. One conversation with him and suddenly he's okay with Kylo watching Isabella and him in the bedroom. And it just quickly evolved from there to wanting him as a third in the bedroom but really only in the bedroom. Roman and Isabella only seem to act as mates when they're having sex and the same applies for Isabella and Kylo. Sure Isabella worries when Roman might be in danger, but there's never those small gestures of love and caring towards each other that you would expect from mates who love each other.
I would still read the third and final book in the series but if there's no actual development and only sex scenes again, I'll be disappointed. Smut can be written amazingly when having a solid plot prior to sex scenes added to the book.

Spoilers ahead :) I want to scream! WHYYY Emilia, why did you do this to me?!
I will preface this by stating that for most of Submitting to the Alpha, I wasn't sure I liked the story. 1.) Our Hero Roman just rubbed me the wrong way. He would be super sweet to our h one second, then extremely horny and domineering, and then get all broody and controlling the next. I just couldn't get a read on him. 2.) Then with our h Isabella, I was trying to decide if she had split personality disorder. She was a strong badass heroine at first. The kind that didn't let the alpha-hole type push her around with her belly exposed. I loved, loved, loved when she would put him in his place. Buuuut, that only lasted one second. All he had to do was stick his finger in her honey pot and she would roll over and forget that two seconds ago he was taking away everything she had trained for since she was four. She lasted a day LOL
"He let out a low growl that made me shiver in ... delight ... and pushed me against the door. His stubble rubbing against the nape of my neck. His warm breath on my ear. His fingers gliding around my throat. Fuck whatever id said about not needing him last night"
But don't worry! After the big O she would go back to hating him but secretly lusting after him. Then let him seduce her again. Rinse. Repeat.
so to say that by the end I really appreciated the character growth and relationship they built would be an understatement. It turned the WHOLE book around for me.
So imagine my surprise when
I finished the book, because well - momma didn't raise no quitter - but I just couldn't get into it. That plot twist didn't add anything to the story for me.
As always though, the spice was on point. I can't argue that. The world building was slightly better. We were left with a few questions from the previous book surrounding her birth date and the moonflower. I do wish we got more books that focus on side characters so we can get more info on what happens with them but that's just me being needy lol
As always, I love Emilia's books despite my dislike for the direction in which she took this one. it is still worth the read if you miss Isabella and Roman <3
Roman is willing to share after he realises that he can trust Isabella and Kyle after giving them instructions not to do anything while he is gone, then he decides that he wants Isabella to be happy and makes up with his old best friend.
The smut was great, a Dom, a Sub and a switch! Perfect combination.
Will be interesting to see how they defeat the threat to the wolves in the last book
This is an interesting sequel with high angst, lots of steamy deliciousness, and a Luna fighting her wolf. Most of the angst is because Isabella and her wolf aren’t on the same page and she’s trying her best to keep things like they are. More of Roman’s past is revealed, along with a new alpha, and they’re facing a new danger. I’m looking forward to seeing how this series ends.
The story is getting very good, and I love the addition of Kylo. The war is coming, and I am stressed but excited to see what happens and who survives.
Roman is changing into the mate that Isabella needs, and she is becoming a stronger leader. I am very excited for the 3rd book that I am starting right now.
I loved this book and the 1st one before it. I'll about to purchase the 3rd book because I must know how it ends!!! This series is so well written. It's worth the money ($4.99) and definitely does not disappoint!!!!!
I absolutely love the growth of the Characters in this book and the way they communicate so much better. It was really wonderful to see the passion and understanding from Roman along with the concern and honesty from Isabella. The level of spice is just the icing on the cake! Wonderful read :)
Great writing, easy to follow, such drama, emotions, and OMG when MFM!!! Hope Derek is ok, Moonflowers sound pretty 💜 Ok, so I’ve read out of order…lol, need to read book 1 then 3! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺 📚FYI: Book1= Submitting to the Alpha, Book2= Defying the Alpha, Book3= Protecting the Alpha
Quick read. Finished it in one day. But I definitely couldn't put it down. Kept my attention the whole time. Lots of spice for those who like those kinds of books
