Series: Mydworth Mysteries #7
Publication Date: 1/29/21
Period: Interwar
Number of Pages: 125

It is almost Valentine’s day when Kat and Harry are asked to do whatever they can to save Oliver Brown who is set to be hung for murdering his lifelong friend Ben Carter. The thing is, the evidence is overwhelming, and the execution is at dawn in just a couple of days. What can they possibly find to save him in that short time? First, they need to decide whether to believe the evidence or to believe what Oliver says.

Ben’s murder was a vicious one – obviously done by someone who had an issue with Ben. Also obvious was the fact that Ben and Oliver had been in an altercation earlier in the evening – one that would have come to blows had it not been for the police arriving. With no alibi, the murder weapon found at his home, and bloody clothing buried in his garden, Oliver is the only suspect. Even when their other friend Will tries to offer Oliver an alibi, the police quickly discredit it. How in the world will Kat and Harry manage to overcome all of that – in such a short time – after any trails will have long gone cold?

This is an exciting, fast-paced, well-written story that you won’t want to put down. The characters are delightful, the mystery intense, and the solution is unexpected. If you are looking for a great read, this short book is just the thing.

"𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁." "𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗼," 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗞𝗮𝘁, 𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗸𝗶𝘀𝘀. "𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗱." "𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 - 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗿 - 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺."

This couple is boldly flirting and Sir Harry being more cheeky with his wife. There's more romantic scenes Harry has with his wife in this book, it makes me giggle like a fool. I ♥️ every endearing and comforting gesture Harry does to Kat even a small one, i mean it's romantic. Romance written by man is always voila 😘

I want this kind of marriage, sweetest and gentle with his wife but narcissistic towards criminals (although he still maintains being amiable, a narcissistic gentleman). He catches, she smashes, boom! A dynamic romantic couple.

Suitable to be read during winter or in a cold room with a coffee and rain. This mystery really perked me up , it comes with being thrilled.

A man is wrongly accused of killing his friend. With wrong testimony , alibi and evidence, things doesn't add up. Nobody wants to open up this nasty case again, but the question is how to prove it in 3 days shortened until there are only 20 hours left to the hanging.

It's thrilling because readers already know this mistake but how do we want to uncover it, even though the perpetrator has been arrested but there is no evidence that the perpetrator accused the accused.

The suspense last till the end, the tension is killing me because the search revealed nothing while option and time is running out. Anyone, anywhere might be an enemy

╰┈➤ Cutting edge investigation
╰┈➤ Relentless
╰┈➤ No evidence linked
╰┈➤ Open and shut case
╰┈➤ Spontaneous and romantic romance

This is a book about getting help at the appropriate time. Like, if your husband is convicted of murder, start seeking help the day after the conviction is handed down. But art has to imitate life, and there is nothing better than enlisting help at the eleventh hour, where everything is hampered by time running out and even Lord Harry's political ties can't secure a stay of execution just because the Mortimers like the guy in the noose.

However, it does set the stage for a properly thrilling race against the clock, where the only way out is to construct a plausible alternative sequence of events with sufficient evidence to warrant a trial. So basically to do all the policework the first trial took, but on a constrained timeline and with no official authority. Sort of explains how miscarriages of justice come about in the first place.

What a tear jerker for me!

Oh my this is one of my favorites so far! I got it from Amazon since ya'll want to know. Gosh my favorite part was when he fell. I'll not say more to that...Also the ending I cried allot, even when Timms made that phone call he should have mae earlier!!!!💖💖💖 Fantastic read! So happy I decided to read it. Actually the book before this one was a real winner also. I cried in that book also! Who wouldn't though? I mean read the fly on it and you'll know why. Great series, I just got a bit stalled on a few of the books. Totally my fault entirely , or I guess I should say "my bad" cause of I wasn't in a good way. Please enjoy!

Whether you've kept up with this series, haven't read one in over a year, or never read one at all, I guarantee that you'll be as caught up in this one as I was! It begins with the murder, then hops into the days immediately prior to the convicted man awaiting the hangman and the husband/wife team being asked to do their best (even at this late date) to get a stay of execution and (hopefully) prove the man's innocence. From then on it's a wild ride of an investigation that gets faster and faster until the end. Great read!
Nathaniel Parker brings the characters alive and adds to the suspense!

#7 in the Mydworth Mysteries The Wrong Man is another fun and cozy novel. I love this series!

Ben Carmody is found dead in an alleyway one snowy cold night in the small village of Mydworth and all evidence points to his best friend, Oliver, "Ollie" who was last seen arguing with him at the local pub. The police are satisfied they have found their man, even if they aren't convinced he killed him. Ollie's wife, Mabel, who knows her husband is not a killer, asks Sir Henry and Lady Kat to help her. There's a catch, Ollie is to be hung in 2 days!

Dogged sleuthing and telephotography get the right man

Sir Harry and Lady Mortimer are a good team; however, the story is thin. There just isn't enough depth to the plot or characters to keep it interesting.
I read a lot of 1920s murder mysteries that can be read in 2-3 hours with well developed characters and plots where, as the reader I get to know the sleuth(es) with less formulaic plots and endings.

Probably the best in the series so far. Entertaining "cosy" mystery stories with a great cast of characters and a lovely setting in a small town in England in the snow. This one has the added excitement of a race against time to save a wrongly accused man from hanging. I found this engaged my interest until the very end - whereas some of the earlier instalments in the series had fizzled out before the end once the perpetrator had been revealed (or became obvious to me) a bit prematurely.

Oliver Brown is set to hang for murder in just a few days. His wife Mabel’s last hope is to ask Lord Harry Mortimer and his wife Kat to prove that someone else committed the crime. The couple are skeptical – the evidence against Ollie is very compelling – but they promise to try. In such a short format there is no time to introduce a host of suspects, so the culprit is rather clear. The mystery is whether Harry and Kat can corner the killer before an innocent man hangs. A fun, light read.

Cute story

This cozy mystery takes you to a snowy England in the 1920's where Kat and Harry need to find a murderer to save another man from being hanged for the crime. The clock is ticking as our intrepid couple rush to find the culprit but the clues are not cooperating, do they make it in time? Enjoy the book.

As an American married to an Englishman and an avid fan of mysteries, I delight in this series of somewhat anachronistic but always amusing, lighthearted but serious, adventures. Beautifully written, especially the characterization of the many different individuals in each story and the fast-paced, sometimes cliff-hanging, resolution of the detection, these mysteries are a joy to read.

This Mydworth Mysteries novella series joins Cherringham and Bunburry as a perfect palate cleanser read and “The Wrong Man” is an unusually strong entry in the group. Harry and Kat aren’t genius problem-solvers but they are fun and that is a pleasure to read. “The Wrong Man” is twistie and packs plenty of plonk in a few pages. For a light, short, quick read this book is a perfect choice.

Good suspenseful read

This book was my favorite so far. I like the intrigue with Will Davis and the mystery surrounding the old house. Also enjoyed Harry and Kat’s race against time. Even though you know the outcome, the ride there is enjoyable. I will continue with this series and recommend it.

Seventh in the series - I am addicted to listening to Nathan Parker and the village setting more than I am to the characters. I do find them interesting and the mysteries are usually well plotted. This mystery wasn’t too involved - I knew who did it upon the first introduction of the character and I wasn’t surprised by the ending. I’ll keep listening.

Lukijana Nathaniel Parker.
Pidän pääparista, mutta tämä kertomus jäi jotenkin kevyeksi, ei paljoakaan salapoliisityötä ollut. Yksi jännittävä takaa-ajo oli toki. Välityön makua, mutta ei huono kuitenkaan.

As always, reallllly good! This was faster in pace than any in the Mydworth series, I think, and as usual, I love the 'modern' bits that make it into the story. (Telephotography machine? Let's ask pakcik google...)

Wonderful mystery! Love Harry and Kat - remind me of Agatha Christie’s Tommy and Tuppence. Very heartfelt story as they try to keep the hangman’s noose from ending the life of an innocent man in the murder of his best friend. Well written and tough to put down.

Hoooooo, I enjoyed this one!
A bit more tension here.
It had me sitting on the edge of my seat at the near end.
Figured out who did it quickly, but the question remained... would they be fast enough to save our innocent man?!?

Another fun and quick read in this short series. The stakes were high in this one and the main characters raced against the clock to save an innocent man. This one was slightly more predictable than some of the others, but still very enjoyable.
