This book is intended for first-time visitors in Iceland who know that there is an important medieval literature in Icelandic but do not have an easy access to it. There are many novel- or novella-length sagas, for which readers may not have the necessary leisure, but there are also short narratives (Icelandic þættir) that provide a quick and easy introduction to the style of Icelandic saga writing. The six samples presented here are from eastern Iceland, a region generally less well represented in the old literature than other regions but of equal distinction.
This was a really fun read - it's exactly what it says in the title. I bought it on my way back home from Iceland and it was just really fun to read. Honestly would recommend this to anyone who is planning to go to Iceland on holiday.
Not sure if this is a 5 star book but honestly it's exactly what I expected.
