Shirley Blake works at a seamstress shop in the middle of Everton—a lively city in the heart of Missouri. Watching the world going on around her, she feels stuck in motion. In between the heaps of fabric and miles of thread, she finds herself wanting so much more.
Wilbur Davis carries the guilt of something from his past everyday. Leaving home when he was only seventeen, he's spent the last eight years living on a ranch in Nevada. When tragedy strikes, he’s forced to return to the farm he grew up on and face the pain he’d so desperately tried to leave behind.
Can Shirley build a life for herself like the one she dreams of?
And can Wilbur forgive himself for all the mistakes he’s made?
It was fun to be back in Everton and I enjoyed the story of Shirley Blake and Wilbur Davis. The story is a sweet, clean, historical tale. While this story is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.
Shirley Blake works as a seamstress in Miss Hucksley's shop and lives in the attic area overhead. She misses her friend, Elinor, who had also worked there but has since married. Basically, Shirley is alone in the world.
Wilbur Davis has been running from something most of his life. He moved from his family and hasn't kept in touch with anyone. He will get a letter from his mother, informing him of his father's death and that she will need to sell the family farm. That will be the push to have Wilbur return home--back to Everton.
I loved the characters, the emotions, the angst, and the chemistry. From the time Shirley and Wilbur meet, there is a connection and I'm glad they make things work. Wilbur must work through memories of his past and a tragedy from his childhood--the one that sent him running from his family. It is a story of healing and acceptance.
I absolutely loved reading this really wonderful book! I really loved the characters and the plot! I had a hard time putting this really wonderful book down! I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this wonderful series! Morgan Dawson is a really wonderful author!
I wonder if Miss Hucksley ever thought her shop would be a place to find romance? Morgan Dawson has taken us back to the seamstress shop in Everton. I enjoy her books and look forward to the next one.
A lesson in forgiveness, not only of others, but also for gaining yourself. Wilbur feels guilty over is actions as a child and it affects his whole life. Great read!!
