It’s the summer before my senior year in college and I had a plan.
Move to Atlantic City.
Bartender at the most popular bar in town.
The plan did not include vampires.
It did not include falling for my ridiculously hot boss, who happens to be one.
Nor did it include an ancient prophecy supposedly about my sister and I.
No, this was not the plan. Yet here I am expected to take my “rightful” place and save the world.
I just wanted to be a bartender. How is this my life?
Dark Spirits is an adult dark paranormal romance. This book contains explicit language and graphic sex scenes; all consensual, intended for audiences 18+. This is a reverse harem building series which means at the end of the series the main character will have more than one love interest. The author highly suggests this series be read in order to get the full experience. The series will end with a happily ever after. This book contains themes of infanticide that some readers may find triggering. If you like sassy FMC and a sexy, possessive vampire this book is for you. This is book one in the series.
My first time reading from this author and if I am not mistaken, this may be her first published book released. This book was phenomenal. The writing was clean and flowed well, I didn’t notice any context errors, and the emotional response the author managed to provoke in me as the reader was unexpected ( I can be cold hearted when I read 🤷🏼♀️) but I did tear up a little while reading this one.
This was a lengthy book too and I remember thinking to myself that other authors would have broken up this book into 2 or 3 books for the extra buck. The characters were all well developed and had strong connections and relationships with each other which then carried over to me as the reader.
I loved how the author highlighted the strong relationship Alana had with her sister Summer in the beginning. It made the blow of the prophecy more emotional and gut wrenching to read. I felt more emotionally invested solely because of how the author invited the reader in to see how their lives were before the prophecy became known. I’ve read books where the evil villain is the heroine’s “long lost sister” or the sister she never knew she had troupe.
And that ending….holy cow I was not expecting that at all! I knew that this book would be RH and honestly I was wrecking my brain the entire book trying to figure out how the author would spin this into a RH from what appears to be a MF. Now I need to know more about what we discovered at the end. I cannot wait to see what the next book holds.
I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy vampires, slow building RH, delicious steam 🤤, and a badass female lead with a heart of gold.
The prophecy that one sister will take the life of the other isn't told to Alana or Summer until they are both older. However they were both raised as humans, so they had no idea about the supernatural world until Summer turned twenty and Alana started having dreams. Summer went on a vacation, came back with a guy who not only told her about the prophecy but also turned her. Alana meets her Mate Maleki at her new job Dark Spirits in Atlantic City, where she is told about the prophecy and also meets her grandmother Dameris. She has so much to learn in such a short period of time that it boggles her mind. You have to give Alana some serious props because she fights the prophecy. She refuses to believe that her sister is a bad person. She refuses to be turned into a vampire just so she can fulfill the prophecy. She sticks to her beliefs until something happens and she is not given a choice in the matter. Her hands are tied. The author wrote the story to be a slow burn why choose story and the is the first book in the series. Maleki is the first mate in the RH why choose harem. At the end of the book we are introduced to the others in her harem. Can't wait to read their stories.
I really enjoyed this book, its not like I’ve ever read before, it’s a different take on vampires. This first book is a building on what’s going to be a great series, it’s got some interesting characters and the ENDING, I wasn’t expecting it, and I haven’t read a book that ended like that before
Slow burn and full of promise this is a great start to a new series. With a fresh exciting storyline and a cast of characters you cannot help but fall in love with, this is a great pace and leaves you with a delicious yearning to read more, fantastic story cannot wait for more
This book surprised me. I appreciated that it was from different points of view, I always love to get insight into how much the MC is driving the guys crazy. Alana certainly did that with Maleki. Two words: King Bee!! You'll see.
The story is very interesting and unique. It is so well written and I loved the characters. Maleki 💕🔥 There were feels. There were “Wait! What?!” moments. The shmexy parts are *chefs kiss*. I can’t wait to see how this story continues.
Wow! This was such a great start to a series. This is my first book by N.A. Jameson, and it will not be my last! This book had me stressed out and on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen between Alana and her sister Summer. It was heartbreaking to see them going from having a great relationship to enemies so quickly. On the other hand her relationship with Maleki was exquisite, their chemistry was off the charts!! This is a reverse harem series so I really can’t wait to get to know the other guys and see her relationships with them. THAT CLIFFHANGER, I didn’t see that coming at all!! I was just sitting here staring at my kindle trying to figure out what the heck just happened. I can’t wait to jump right in to the next one.
I love this book - what an incredible start to a building series… sexy vampires, steamy scenes and a sassy FMC - what more could a girl want. The author definitely took me on a rollercoaster ride - I laughed, I loved, I hated, I cried, I grieved - Dark Spirits provoked all the feels.
Alana, our strong, fiercely independent and somewhat quirky FMC went through it all. She knew what she wanted and always held strong to her beliefs - even if it meant putting Maleki in his place . The ending broke my heart a little, but then… gave me hope.
Maleki, our dreamy, domineering vampire really brought the heat. He really came into his own throughout the book and let’s be honest, seeing him take what he wanted was hot.
Summer, oh Summer, how did you end up so bad? She changed so much throughout the story, So sweet at first - your typical spoiled little sister who picked out the perfect dress - but she becomes the one you love to hate.
Kristin was the best friend I never knew I was missing until I met her in the book. I hope we get more of her!
I can’t wait to see what comes next.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
All I can say is WOW! N.A Jameson knows how to keep you glued to the pages of this book. Dark Spirits is the first in the Prophecy Series and it is a fun, intense and extra steamy slow burn paranormal reverse harem. We meet Alana and part of her fam, both blood and extended. N.A writes about the loss of a strong sisterly bond and mortal innocence, true fated mates, and the strength you receive from pure love and determination. There are lots of twist and turns that takes you on an emotional roller coaster, then leaves you on the highest hill waiting for the next book. If you enjoy paranormal romance with lots of heat and plenty of action Dark Spirits by NA. Jameson is the book to grab. n-a-jameson
I'll be honest, I got 80% of the way through and I thought the author had forgotten this was supposed to be a RH/Why choose, but it makes so much sense now!
Book 1 is the world builder, the introduction to the timeline and main character (well, most of them)
I'm not really one for insta loves, even when they are fated mates, but I would never mark a book down for that, purely because it's a personal preference. (I'm big on passion, not romance)
I would highly recommend reading this book!
I'm off to read book 2 so I can read the Book 3s ARC!
A great unique twist on vampires with witchy fun and prophecies. The spicy romance scenes were on point and I really loved all the characters. I can definitely see a whole world building here.
I was really impressed with the writing and the ending was expertly crafted to keep my on the edge of my seat and then stun me speechless.
I can say too much about what I really loved about this series with spoilers, but suffice it to say I'm very excited for what the author may have in store next.
WHAAATTTT???????? Best cliffhanger ever! I've read plenty a cliffhanger but none that left me aa excited as this one for the next book! I actually can't believe this is the author's first book! I loved the story and thw characters! Yes, including Summer! I thought she was hilarious in the first chapters. Can't wait to see what Maleki makes of everything!
This is my first book by N.A Jameson! The world building and twist and turns were great! The ending I totally didn’t see coming and man the last 10% kept you guessing. I can’t wait to see where the story goes and what the sisters do now. The MMC Maleki was dominant and completely head over heels for Alana from the beginning. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
wow this book is so addictive ! i was hooked all the way through and there was a scene in the book that really helped me with the passing of some one special to me , i cant wait to read more of this series , im so glad that i found it when i did it means theirs all ready more for me to read N.A Jameson , im hooked !
Dark Spirits is the first book in The Prophecy series. N.A. Jameson is a brand new author to me and wasn't sure what to expect. I really, really enjoyed this series. This was a very unique and interesting take on vampires. Definitely can't wait to read more of this series.
This is my first time reading this author. It won't be my last. But I won't lie. It made me cry! There were lots of 18+ scenes, but I loved the prophecy storyline and was hooked early.
Not gonna lie, I wasn’t super into the storyline for a minute in the beginning, and I was super confused because it wasn’t RH like I thought. However, that ending! Totally unexpected and now I’m jumping straight into the second. Queen of plot twists!
What did I just read?! Okay totally wasn’t sure about the paranormal romance thing since it something out of my comfort zone but I am so glad I did!! There was so many unexpected twist I didn’t even think of and umm yaaasss Alana!!! Her and Maleki just literally make all the sense I love them together. But omg I did start freaking crying at the end. Ughhhhh nooooo why!!!! My heart literally shattered but excuse me what lol. I have to cut this review short now because I need to hurry and start book 2 like now since that was definitely one cliffhanger I need answers to NOW!
Do you l love a book with twists and turns? What about a book with a killer storyline? This book is all of that and more. I fell in love with this story!
What in the heck just happened? Do you love a book with twists and turns? With some slow burning tension? With drama? Pain? Loss? Love? This is so the book to read.
Loved it! This book is well written and I enjoyed the character development. It is a slow burn but so good. I love Alana. How are you supposed to take the life of your sister? Alana and Summer are close. This story is going to be interesting. What a cliffhanger! I'm excited to read what happens next!
I started with the second book and read all the books from book 2 to the last book. I fell in love with the series so I had to read book one to the end of book 5. I do recommend reading this book first so you can get the whole picture. Because it’s a continuation of the story. I also love how easily the book flowed and kept me on my toes.
I didn't know what I was really getting myself into with this one but I signed up to read it as part of a book club I'm in. I could have opted out but I had to admit the blurb had me interested. I'm so glad I got a chance to read this book because N.A. Jameson delivered 4.5 stars.
Honestly, the blurb did not prepare me for how much I would like this book. It's been a while since I read a vampire romance that I really enjoyed. There was a great amount of mystery, suspense, drama, and chemistry mixed into this book. On top of that, it wasn't your typical cliche vampire story. There were some elements you just can't escape from but overall I found this incredibly unique. Then get to that ending and WOW, I did not see that coming.
I hope the rest of the series is as good as this first book was because I want more. . . . Alana has plans, before starting her last year at college she's going to work in Atlantic City at a popular bar so when she's finished her degree she has even more experience to open her own bar. The night of her sister's 20th birthday is the first time Alana dreams of things that make her sick and the start of a whole new world she was not prepared for.
Maleki is one of the owners of Dark Spirits the bar where Alana is starting work. He knows all about her and the prophecy surrounding her, the only thing he doesn't know is if she's good or if she's evil. He's been planning and preparing for her arrival for a while. What he's not prepared for is the first moment he actually spots her. Alana is his fated mate. Knowing what he knows and not knowing Alana, Maleki holds back from her. She is his and he knows that but she has no idea about his world or what is coming for her.
Alana is overwhelmed by Maleki, a need to get close and know him but also knowing his much more dangerous than he appears. The first word he ever said to her was 'Mate' and unsure of what to make of that she's left confused and wanting. 'He looked like the kind of sin a girl wouldn't mind being covered in.' When her new friends and Maleki tell her the truth she's firmly in the land of denial but when things start happening to and around her she can no longer deny the truth.
Regardless of the prophecy, Alana is determined to do things her way. She's never been weak before and despite being the only human in a place full of vampires she's safer than she's ever been. They will go to war for her.
When Alana is forced into making the tough decisions she's left gutted by the outcome and lost to Maleki. This won't be her only chance though and she will find her way back to him and set the world right.
Dark Spirits is the first book in the Prophecy Series. This was the first book that I read by this author, and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a slow burn,PNR romance that builds towards a why choose. The storyline kept me intrigued, and character development was at a slower pace that I appreciated for a change up in a book.I highly recommend this book and can't wait to start the next book
Dark Spirits is the start of a slow build paranormal RH series, where this first book focusses on the relationship between Alana and Maleki. I like the fact this series is quite original compared to most other RH series, even the ones that also focus on a slow building harem. You'll know what I mean with that comment once you reach the end of this book; it's one of the most unexpected endings to a first book I've ever read.
I liked the main characters in this first book, but DJ and Kirstin left an impression as well, and I always enjoy it when side characters leave me with a good feeling. Looking back at Alana and Maleki, I felt a closer connection to Maleki in this book. He's a pretty original vampire, with all the goodness of Edward compared with all the hotness of Eric. There were moments I liked Alana, but there were also times her reluctance to make certain decissions annoyed me a little.
This is definitely a book for those who like a slower paced story, where there is a lot of focus on the relationship development. It's really well written, with potential for the rest of the series.
Dark Spirits is book 1 in The Prophecy series. It is a slow burn, PNR romance that is building towards a why choose series finale. This story is such an interesting concept. The characters and world introduced to us keeps you invested in Alana and Summer and has you questioning this prophecy. Alana and Summer are strong and interesting. Maleki is a great mate for Alana. You wish and pray for their HEA. But this prophecy has been set in ancient times and it’s a prophecy that is too strong to fight. The plot has many surprising twists and shocking revelations that keep you glued to the book, wishing for the HEA. The spicy times are hot, and the bond and connection between Maleki and Alana is formidable. The cliffhanger and the draw of the characters leave me anxiously waiting for the rest of The Prophecy series!
Wow I did not see that ending coming! This was a steamy dark paranormal romance. If you like vampires, magic and prophecies this is the story for you! Alana and summer are sisters, 6 years apart and on summers 20th birthday Alana starts to have these strange dreams. In them she and her sister are fighting, in some she is di3s and in others summer does. She thinks they're just nightmares, until she overhears a conversation she shouldn't have been able to see and hear between her sister and a boy she met. Things get crazy and the life she thought she knew is turned upside down. But of course one good thing comes out of this. She meets Malekai and well things get pretty heated once he realizes how he feels about her. Can't wait to read book 2
Alana and Summer are descendants of two vampire royalty who was killed in battle but their daughters were saved. Now, a prophecy foretold will come to fruition. Both women will become vampires, one good and one evil, the two shall fight and one will die. When they find out about the prophecy, which one will be good, which one evil? Who will be the ultimate Queen and have all the power? Both will have armies amassed, both will have those that care for them and believe in them. One will try to stop it from happening, while the other does not care totally turning her back on all they shared! This is a fabulous book and OMG the twist at the end…no one will see that coming~
This book is both fun and heartbreaking. The beginning of the book starts of by showing the close relationship Alana and Summer which is why the story and prophecy is so heartbreaking. I loved the push and pull relationship between Alana and Maleki until they finally give into their relationship. Maleki is so protective but also understands that Alana is going to do whatever she believes in right and still supports here. Alana is incredibly strong and caring and will willingly walk into a trap if it means saving lives. The ending was such a plot twist that I was blown away with and it made me so excited to see where this journey will go.
OMG - this book is amazing. I laughed and cried, felt anger and hope, fear and comfort, and got so lost in this book. It is well written with great characters and world development. Our author is one heck of a storyteller with extreme plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat as you read. We get a chance to learn more of the Sabados family history and of the sisters Alana and Summer and the love between them. We also meet Maleki, DJ and Kristen, Gran and so many others. A wonderful fast paced page turner so be sure to get comfy and settle in for awhile. And there is another cliffhanger.
