Sarah Noffke is evil incarnate…. Either that or she has spent too much time hanging around Michael Anderle. This is an exciting and exceptionally surprising book to have found written by Sarah. Largely because she had killed off the main character and turned him into a god. After that one doesn’t really expect to see a sequel.
Guess what,? This ISN’T a sequel… It’s a prelude! And where she leaves us hanging is the definition of Evil incarnate. Hence the first line to this review.
Regardless, all of that said aside, if you have read any of the Dream Traveler series, You will be both excited to read this and enjoy it thoroughly, despite the ending.
If you haven’t read anything on the Dream Travelers, do yourself a favor and pick them up. Start with the Lucidites. That first book easily reaches and passes the line by which I separate literature from fiction. It’s just that good. Make no mistake, that first book will last the ages (cf: Little Women and Little Men, both by the same author, one a sequel to the other, but we remember only the first).
This is an excellent short story that followers of Sarah Noffke's dream traveller world will absolutely love. The story fills us in on what happened to Ren since his "death" and it is definitely not what you would have suspected. We are also introduced to a great new character who you can't help but like from the beginning, I will look forward to seeing her interactions with the rest of the dream traveller world in future books. As usual, Tim Campbell does a brilliant job of the narration. He pulls you into the story and really brings the individual personalities to life with the voices, accents and intonation he uses. I love that he is consistent from one book to the next no matter the length between books. I am so excited with the development in this book and can not wait for the author to write another in the series. Ren still remains my favorite character in all the Dream Traveller series.
I had been sad that Ren's story was probably over and done with, but this definitely changed that, and I was so pleased, as it's now left things open for more potential Ren stories in the future.
While not a full blown book, there was enough interest and intrigue within this story, to keep my attention, and, though I was saddened at the loss of Dahlia, her going has opened up any of Ren's possible future storylines beautifully.
So, this is the last Ren story - for the moment, anyway - and so I'm going on to what I believe is the last series of the Dream Travelers that I own of: Genetically Altered, where I'll be taking up book one: Made to Kill.
Well, I will, but after I've had a few hours sleep, anyway!
So, once I've slept, I'll start reading book one, then I'll see you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it .
I thoroughly enjoyed this short novella about Ren. It altenrnates between Ren and Spring. Spring being a worker at an antiques shop who one day looks in a mirror and sees and can communicate with Ren. Ren wants to be freed and realises Spring is his only hope so enlists her help. Great story left me wanting more of Ren and Spring.
I'm not exactly sure where this story fits in Ren's timeline. Interesting story featuring an 18 year old girl who works in an antique store with an odd mirror.
