When love knocks you down, you get back in the saddle…

Sally Weston was always the one for injured cowboy stuntman Jarod Hunter. She was the only woman who could smooth his rough edges, and make him feel like he was right where he belonged. Until she broke his heart…

Now, Jarod’s gun-shy about romance with anyone, especially Sally, even though she stirs his blood like no other. With his stuntman career over, Jarod’s returned home to manage his aunt and uncle’s ranch. But seeing Sally again means he also has to manage his wounded heart…

Sally never stopped loving Jarod. But after her father died, she couldn’t just abandon her family and run off with Jarod to California, like they’d planned. Jarod never understood that, for Sally, family was the one thing she couldn’t turn her back on, even if it meant letting her future with the smoldering cowboy fade away. But now that Jarod’s back, she’s got a glimmer of hope. Maybe this is a second chance to make things right?

Can she convince Jarod to stay home for good? Or will they both suffer the pain of losing each other, all over again?

Mary Sue Jackson is the romance pen name created for all those cowboy dreamers! This Montana-based cowgirl is a rancher, and knows what hard work means. But despite being up at dawn and working past dusk, she still finds time for what she really loves... romance! With so many hours spent alone, riding across the seemingly never-ending expanse of grasslands, she has plenty of time to dream of love and the romantic tales of ranch life.

When Mary Sue's not out on the grasslands dreaming up her next story, she's most often spending time with her own personal hunky rancher, her husband. One of Mary Sue's favorite activities is to ride the ranch with her husband in the evening and hold his hand as they watch the sun go down over the prairie.

Overall I liked this book. Jarod was injured on the job and is back home. Sally is his ex and she is working at the ranch he is running. Things are complicated because neither one really ever got over the other one. Luckily in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.

They say you can’t go home again, and Jarod is about to learn whether or not that’s really true after an unfortunate accident cuts his stunt career in Hollywood short. Sally’s never really left home, so she’s never had the chance to test the theory out, but when her ex suddenly returns, running away doesn’t sound like a perfectly terrible plan. This pair just about broke my heart. They have all this chemistry and a heap of unresolved issues that are simultaneously drawing them together and tearing them apart. Neither one is completely sure what they want from their futures, and they’re terrified of making the wrong choice and getting hurt again. I loved seeing all the growth this pair went through, particularly in being able to tell one another what they wanted and stand up for those dreams.

This is book three of the Windy Creek Romances series and the main characters are Sally Weston, head chef at the Lucky Star Ranch, run by the aunt and uncle to Hollywood stuntman Jarod Hunter. Jarod had lived with his aunt and uncle Karen and Frank, since he was seven years old, but had always felt he didn’t match up to his uncle’s expectations. It eventually drove him to want nothing more than to escape the small town and the life expected of him. He and Sally had been high school sweethearts and thought they would get married and she could go to Hollywood with him. But her father became seriously ill and she stayed home to help her mother, getting a job and looking after her two sisters. Jarod was maybe a tad immature and expected her to just leave her family behind and be selfish, helping him to live the life of adventure he sought. He broke her heart by leaving her behind, but he believes she was the one to break his heart, but refusing to leave with him! A bit of growing up and communication was obviously needed.
Ten years later, with his career suddenly ended after a stunt gone wrong, he ends up having to come to the ranch and soon finds out who his friends are. His aunt and uncle are looking to retire soon and go travelling around the lower forty eight states in an RV. With Jarod being back home, they are hoping he will take over as ranch manager and let them get started on Karen’s dream. He gets a shock when he is touring the ranch and finds his former love Sally working in the kitchen preparing meals for their guests. He had no idea she worked there and memories of their past together, starts to flood his head and body! Sally had never stopped loving Jarod, she just couldn’t abandon her family then or now! At first, all Jarod will agree to, is that he will see out the season on the ranch, relearning what he needs to manage the ranch. He is thinking of opening a school of sorts for stuntmen, training others to do stunts. But when he hears the rumours of his aunt and uncle wanting to sell the ranch, if he isn’t going to stick around, it gives him the same feeling of being suffocated and stuck if he stays at the ranch.
Sally doesn’t want her heart broken by Jarod again, but neither of them can ignore the feelings they still have for each other and they start to get involved again. If Jarod leaves and the ranch is sold, it won’t just affect Sally, it will affect everybody who works on the ranch as well as the whole town, depending on what the developer that wants the land, will do with it! Sally wants to see Jarod stay behind on the ranch, for her heart’s sake, but also so she and everyone else don’t lose their jobs and their small, quaint town doesn’t change beyond recognition. Jarod has the same struggle facing him, and will need to think about what is best for him, but also for those he loves and the ranch that is beginning to draw him in. The ranch, family and Sally may still not be enough if he feels overwhelmed by expectations. Sally’s younger sister has some very poignant words to give to Sally, as she is faced with an identical issue of the heart. Both come to a conclusion off their own bat, and a very satisfying HEA ending is there for the taking! A great pair of characters who clearly still love each other, but face obstacles against their future happiness, they have already faced and failed at in the past. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I really enjoyed this book on now the two main characters have had to grow and learn lesson along the way and leave past mistakes where they belong in the past so they can have a future together. Sally Weston has loved Jarod Hunter forever and there dreams of that future get turned upside down when Sally decides to stay in Windy Creek to help the family after her father died and although he is sad for her he doesn’t understand why she won’t come with him still and so he leaves her behind breaking both there hearts. Jarod Hunter is a stuntman and after a accident on his last job he can know longer be one and heads home to heal and and to reevaluate his life. Now on his Aunt’s and uncle’s ranch it feels like home to Jarod and they both want to retire and they hope Jarod will take over running the ranch and he wonders if this could be his new life, while taking a tour with Karen and Frank on the ranch he meets Sally his ex again she is the chef at the ranch and she is still as beautiful as he remembered and still loves but when she asks him if he is going to fire her because she really needs the job. Sally is shocked to see Jarod back in town and she realises that he still owns her heart and always will and then he tells her no her job is safe on the ranch. After 10yrs of being apart the burning hot chemistry is still there and it isn’t long before they are seeing each other again and Sally wonders if this is a wise move because she doesn’t think staying and will end up hurt and broken again. Jarod loves Sally so much but he is still unsure about staying and when his agent calls with the perfect job for him he tells Sally and she tells him to go for it and not worry about her and if he goes Karen and Frank will sell the ranch so she applies for another job elsewhere. Does Jarod take the job and once again leave Sally behind or does he realise that she is the only future he wants and must fight to keep her. Great book. . Mary Sue Jackson has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Sally and Jarod. Sally and Jarod had been a couple until he wanted to go to California and she wouldn't go with him. She felt her family needed her so she stayed. Now Jarod has come back to Windy Creek Lucky Star Dude Ranch since he was hurt doing his last stunt. Now he can't be a stuntman anymore and has come home to figure out what he is going to do. His aunt Karen and uncle Frank want to retire and they want him to take over the ranch but he is not so sure if he is going to stay or not. Karen and Frank make him manager so they can take a trip. Karen takes Jarod on a tour and this is when he finds out his ex-girlfriend Sally is working at the ranch. At first, they are shocked to see each other again. Then Sally wants to know if Jarod is going to fire her. She tells him that her family depends on her and her job. Jarod tells her that no, he is not going to fire her. They will work things out. Over time, they get back together but Jarod is still not sure if he is going to be staying. He finds out that Karen and Frank have been thinking of selling the ranch. He talks to them about it and they tell him that if he stayed he would become a partner. After this Jarod gets an email from his agent telling him about a job back in California. Sally has been waiting on Jarod to tell her that he is leaving so she goes and applies for another job. When Jarod tells her about the job offer, she knows that he wants to take it so she tells him to take it since he doesn't want to be on the ranch. Something happens to make him change his mind. But now he doesn't know how to get Sally back.
Will things work out for Sally and Jarod?
Will Jarod stay on the ranch?

Jarod and Sally had made their plans to leave Windy Creek, Colorado as soon after graduation as they could, but then Sally's father took ill, and her family needed her. Even though they were very much in love Jarod went on to LA to become a stuntman while Sally stayed behind with her family. A decade later Jarod has returned to his aunt and uncle's dude ranch the Lucky Star after he was in a serious accident on set resulting in the loss of one of his kidneys and his career. No insurance company will now cover him to work as a stuntman with only one kidney so he came home to regroup and figure out what he wants to do. When he gets to the ranch, he discovers Sally as to head chef in the kitchen. His aunt and uncle are very happy to see him, because they are ready to move on to the next stage of their lives. They would like nothing more than to turn the ranch over to him so they could spend their remaining days traveling around the lower forty-eight in a RV. If Jarod does not want the ranch they are prepared to sell to a developer. Jarod and Sally still have deep feelings for each other, but Sally spends so much of her time trying to convince Jarod why he should stay in Windy Creek instead of showing him how much she loved him. I really enjoyed what little there was of Sally's youngest sister, she should have spoke up long before she did. As for Sally's mother, I know it's terrible to lose a spouse, but when you have children you have to pick yourself up and carry on somehow not expect one your children to do it for you and then continue to let them just because that child will do for you. That seems somewhat heartless and selfish as a mother. A wonderful second chance love story.

Cowboy's Sexy Ex by Mary Sue Jackson is another decent love story by this author. Jacob Hunter went to California ten years ago leaving Sally Weston behind. It was her choice. Her father was pretty sick and she had a mom and two sisters to care for. Now, he was back . Was it for a visit or for more? She was the chef at his aunt and uncle's dude ranch. They were really surrogate parents to him and he loved them. But now he needed to lay low, heal from his injuries, and decide what was next. He really did love it here, but was he ready to settle down. Sally' sister was now a lawyer and had a baby. Her other sister was ready to go off to college. Her mom was, well, her mom. They still hit it off. His aunt and uncle wanted to retire and have him take over the ranch. Then, he got a text from his agent: the perfect job. What comes next?

Pretty moving book about two people trying to grow up. It was easy to feel their pain. They both had things to deal with but Sally had to start thinking of herself and Jacob had to start thinking of others. Conundrum. Jacob felt bad about all the people who would lose their jobs. Me, too. He loved the landscape and that would be all gone. Understandable. Sally's mom would have to grow up and take care of herself; her sisters already had. Plenty going on here. It kept the story interesting.

Jarod and Sally’s story is a tangled second chance at love story. They were lovers as teenagers until he left her behind to pursue his dreams. A career ending injury brings Jarod back to ranch where he is raised after a decade away. With no idea what to do next when it comes to a career, Jarod is still stunned to learn his aunt and uncle are retiring and plan to hand the operation of their dude ranch over to him or sell it. To find Sally working as head chef at the ranch is disconcerting as well as surprising. Life on the ranch wasn’t what he wanted before and he really doesn’t know if he could be happy and satisfied to run it. His aunt and uncle need a decision, and Jarod finds he has a lot to consider. It isn’t just about him and what he wants, but also the livelihood of the ranch’s employees (which includes Sally), his loyalty to his aunt and uncle, and what happens to the land once it is sold. The attraction is still intense between Sally and Jarod. Even as they tell themselves not to get attached again, to bury the feelings that have refused to die even after all these years apart, both find they can’t stay away from each other. Can they have the happily ever after they dreamed of all those years ago or will they only have more heartbreak? . Self-revelations and a second chance
Cowboy's Sexy Ex (Windy Creek Book 3) by Mary Sue Jackson is a sweet second chance for high school sweethearts Jarod and Sally. Jarod left to pursue his dream in Hollywood, leaving Sally behind when her family's needs became more important than her dreams and plans to leave Windy Creek with Jarod. Heartache and resentment rules these two, unable to understand each other's perspective at their young age.
The plot revolves around Jarod and Sally as time, distance and maturity should have given them a different perspective, but the hurt seems too deep. While reconnecting, Jarod's one foot out of town, holds them back from really talking and understanding one another. Each with their own agendas, this couple seems to reach an impasse, until others give each little nuggets of wisdom to think on and realize what they really want.
Overall, this second chance romance has plenty of suspense as the fate of Lucky Star Ranch, Jarod and Sally are dependent upon one another. Reflection reveals that while similar, the circumstances are not the same 10 years later and they can have the HEA they really want.

Another engaging and entertaining story by this talented author. It is a heartwarming, second chance story that captured my interest and held it till the end. Sally and Jarod had been in love, but when Jarod wanted to move to California, Sally decided to stay in Windy Creek because her family needed her. Jarod is now back in town and his aunt and uncle want him to run their ranch. He's not sure whether or not he wants to stay. As it so happens, Sally is an employee of that ranch and Jarod comes to realize his feelings for her are still there. Opportunities present themselves making it harder for Jarod to decide what to do. He can either continue his career, or settle down and be with the woman he loves. Jarod has a lot to work through before making his decision. Then something happens that just might nudge him in the right direction. This is a very well-written story with plenty of drama and action that will keep you turning the pages. A very enjoyable and entertaining story for sure!

'Cowboy's Sexy Ex' by Mary Sue Jackson is the third book in her Windy Creek Romance series which tells the story of Sally Weston and Jarod Hunter. Sally and Jarod had been friends and then high school sweethearts. They planned to leave Windy Creek and work towards Jarod's goal as a stuntman. But Sally's father got sick and she needed to stay home to help the family. So Jarod went off to become the best stuntman in Hollywood by himself. Sally never stopped loving Jarod.

Ten years later Jarod has a horrendous injury during a stunt. Although he has a clean bill he is considered a liability as no insurance company will cover him. Jarod heads home and agrees to manage his aunt and uncle's ranch. Little did he know that Sally is the Head Chef. More interesting is the spark he feels for Sally. Could they have a second chance?

Ms. Jackson has written a dynamic addition to her series. This story has wonderful characters and an interesting plot. The book is filled with humor, drama, action, and sizzling chemistry. I liked this book and recommend it to everyone who enjoys a romance with some drama.

This is a story about two young lovers who had to make choices that affected their future. Jarod left to chase his dream of becoming a stunt man, leaving the girl he loved and home he knew behind. Sally stayed to help her family and suddenly ill father, choosing to stay home over following Jarod. When Jarod Smith's life changes drastically he goes home to reinvent himself, only to realize it's where he belongs. Sallys had to realize it was okay to have a life of her own, even if it meant she had to follow Jarod to LA. The chemistry between Jarod and Sally is undeniable, bittersweet and unconditional. I loved how strong, sweet and determined Sally is, even if she is a bit dramatic at times. I loved that Jarod is caring, strong and funny, even if he is a bit selfish at times. Sally needs to learn to let go and go after what she really wants, while Jarod needs to realize how important family, heritage and love really mean.

The Hayloft.
Amazing story. Jarod is back home after an accident on his last movie set. It’s the last place he thought he’d be. He is surprised to find that Sally is still around also. He never stopped loving her even after a decade. When he’s asked to take over the ranch he doesn’t know what to do. Sally hasn’t moved on from Jarod either but, she’s afraid of getting involved with him again for fear of him leaving, again. When he makes the decision to go back to LA he asks Sally to go with him. She refuses to leave her family and walks away. They both come to different conclusions and make sacrifices to be together but, each gives up something that complicates things even more. Will they find a middle ground together? Home is not a place, it’s a feeling.

Sally and Jarod dated as teens, but when her father gets unexpectedly ill she ends up abandoning their plans to leave town together to help look after her father.
Jarod leaves and becomes a stuntman, but 10 years later after an accident on set he returns home to reassess his options.
Sally is still in town, working for Jarod's aunt and uncle at their ranch. When they decide its time for them to retire, they ask Jarod to take over the running of the ranch.
He agrees for a short period, until he figures out what he wants to do. But working together makes them realise that they still feel the same way, but what will the future hold for them, will they be able to stay together this time.

Coming Home
The second book in the series is a great addition. Another ranch, The Lucky Star is working to stay open. Money isn’t the issue it’s management. Jarod has come back from LA to recover, regroup and help out his Aunt and Uncle for the season. He’s not ready to settle in nowheresville Colorado but his ❤️ Is still wrapped up in Sally although he’s not willing to admit it. Sally is the head chef for the ranch and still head over heels in ❤️ with Jarod even though she also won’t admit it. When fate conspires to make or break the ranch tough decisions cause pain and joy to happen. Will Jarod survive all of the twists and turns? Will talking to the moon from the hayloft fix things? Hold on and find out.

Cowboy's Sexy Ex is the 3rd book in the Windy Creek Romance series by Mary Sue Jackson. This romance can easily be read as a standalone book or enjoyed as part of the series.

I really enjoyed returning to Windy Creek. The author has created such a wonderful small town with captivating characters.

I could not get enough of this book! I absolutely loved the characters, they made me smile and laugh to myself. I thought the story was beautifully written and was captivating. The romance was steamy and the characters felt genuine and had depth.

Cowboy’s Sexy Ex is the third book in the Windy Creek romances by Mary Sue Jackson. Mary Sue gives more insight to the lives of people in Windy Creek. Windy Creek is a small ranching town in Wyoming. Families band together to help each other succeed.

Jarod Hunter & Sally Weston were high school sweethearts. Jarod was raised by his aunt and uncle, while Sally was raised in a loving family. When her father becomes sick, Sally refuses to leave her family. Jarod follows their dreams without Sally. He suffers an injury causing him to return home. Sally has been working for Jarod’s family as chef. Can old hurts be forgiven?

Jarod has come back to the ranch after spending 10 years working as a stuntman. His career ended when he had a accident and lost a kidney.
His aunt and uncle have plans to retire and to travel, offering him the running of the ranch or it is to be sold to a developer.
Sally is head chef and was his girlfriend, sharing his dreams of leaving, but this all changed following the death of her father. She is bogged down in helping her family.
The future of the ranch is in jeopardy and a lot of people will be effected one way or the other. A big responsibility and decision, but Jarod must do what is best for him....is this ranch, town, people and life enough?. Sally and Jarod have an unexpected second chance, if they can get their act together. Sally gives and gives to her family, ignoring her own wants. I never warmed up to her mother and sisters; they don't seem to appreciate what Sally's given up to help them, taking advantage of her good nature. Her younger sister does redeem herself late in the book, when the two of them have a heart-to-heart conversation. Jarod has the opposite issue, thinking mainly about himself, not able to make up his mind where he wants to be or what he wants to do; he needs to poop or get off the pot. Together, they're a hot couple, but it takes them forever to get on the same page. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Now years later he is back in town after suffering in injury working as a stunt man. HIs aunt and uncle offer him the choice to run the family ranch while they travel. Jarod isn't sure what he wants, and this causes some trouble between him and Sally. Will he see that what he has on the ranch is what he wants? Can Sally give him a third chance at her heart?

Somehow this story did not speak to me at all. It is well written, has good language, emotional scenes, it has some sad elements and happy ones, and is overall good. Then there is the BUT ... I found no connection to the story and it took me absolutely forever to read it as I just could not read more than just a few chapters at a time and I was often thinking I should just close it and start reading something else as now I am behind in my reading... So what to do? As I said in the beginning, it is well written etc. but so so looooooong somehow and without connection to me. Fine three stars is unfortunately all I can give..

Sally Weston and Jared Hunter were high school sweethearts, but when Jared turned eighteen, he left the small town and the ranch he grew up on with dreams of making it big in Hollywood. Sally refused to leave with him. After a serious injury brings Jared back home, she decides that she will do anything to convince him to stay.

Well written, sweet and compelling characters who have to do a lot of soul searching to decide what are really most important, and to realize that no matter where they are they will be happy as long as they’re together. I think this is a wonderful cowboy romance with a little steam and a happily ever after.

Jarod and Sally had major plans for after high school, but when her father died, she just could not leave her family when they needed her help. Jarod went off to be a stunt man and now ten years later he is back and neither has moved on, so do they have a chance? The characters are terrific, with great backstories and intense feelings, but very wary of getting hurt again. The storyline is a roller coaster ride of emotions as first he is staying and then he has an offer.... Loved their chemistry and banter as they reconnected. The aunt and uncle were terrific and supportive. Great ending and hope to read more from this author soon.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Welcome back to Windy Creek. Sally and Jarod get a second chance after fate threw a wrench in their plans years ago. They both were pulled in different directions. These two deserve to have that soul deep love but they still have some growing to do. If they do it together, their future can be rock solid. Jarod wants her but he is gun shy. Sally has to get thru some things also. I liked both of the characters. They deserved to find happiness and learn that they could face all their obstacles together. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a second chance romance. As teens they were making plans for their future. Sally could not leave her family, with her dad sick she needed to be there for her mom and sisters. Now Jarod is back he never got over Sally hurting him by not going. This is a great second chance romance. After ten years can they pick up where they left off. I found this book to be everything I hoped for and more. It captivated me from the start and I had to know how it was all going to play out. Great story with endearing characters. .
