Keira Montclair is the pen name of an author who lives in South Carolina with her husband. She writes fast-paced historical romance, often with children as secondary characters.
If she’s not writing, she prefers to spend time with her grandchildren. She’s worked as a high school math teacher, a registered nurse, and an office manager. She loves ballet, mathematics, puzzles, learning anything new, and creating new characters for her readers to fall in love with.
She considers her work done well when her readers shed tears over her stories, but there’s always a happy ending! Her bestselling series is a family saga that follows two medieval Scottish clans through three generations and now numbers over fifty books.
This is book 7 of 8 in The Grant Clan Series. Although it can be a stand alone, it is probably best to read at least the 1st one to get the flavor of the characters.
This is the story of Jennie, youngest sister of Laird Alex Grant and Aedan, new laird of the Cameron clan. Jennie is a talented healer who is haunted by nightmares which have her doubting her current vocation. Aedan has newly become Laird and has doubts about his leadership abilities. Both Jennie and Aedan have much in common, especially their love of knowledge and their curious natures.
The two do seem perfect for each other, but the romace falls a little flat. I wanted more scenes like the one where they lay on the hillside gazing at the stars, but unfortunately that was the most romantic scene we get. The few lovemaking scenes were not impressive especially their first time which seemed too short and rushed. No fireworks, no passion.. just the deed.
Compared to the last book, it was greatly improved as far as storyline goes, but again, the conflicts were not that nail biting leave you on the edge of your seat type of conflicts, and as usual were just too easily resolved. I suspect it's because the book is only 218 pages and left little room for details.
I was disappointed with the epilogue as well. I was hoping for something more about Jennie an Aedan but all I got was a ceremony for Loki about how brave he was. Of course this is a set up for Montclair's new series (a spin off with the Grant Clans children).
Because I am loyal to Montclair, I will read the last, book 8 and then try out her new series to see if there is anything fresh and new.
I love that the last book gave us a glimpse of the last two couples, the youngest of the Grant and Ramsay siblings. While the romance was great, the relationship between Alex and Jennie also turned me into a puddle. This series consistently has strong female leads, but in a way that's nuanced and doesn't rely on "not like other girls" to make them stand out, and I really love that. Also the men turning into ride or dies for their women brings me so much joy.
Actually a pretty good book. The two leads were very different from the rest in regards to their personalities and likes. I especially loved the authors note at the end. I'll be doing some research about parchment and paper now.
I was secretly excited for a different narrator as well. I like Antony Ferguson but he's a bit dry and the voices seem to sound the same from book to book. Paul Woodson isn't my favorite but not too bad.
This is a good Highlander romance, but it bothered me that Jennie's family knew the reason for her nightmares and didn't share it with her. She thought the nightmares were for a completely different reason, and almost made a decision to change her life because of them. If her family had told her sooner, the nightmares could have ended sooner, too.
I liked both Jennie and Aedan. Some reviewers were bothered that Aedan wasn't as much of an alpha male as is typical in most Highlander romances, but I disagree. Sure, alpha males are fun to read about, but Aedan was an intelligent, caring, and sensitive man -- and that is exactly what many women want and need.
I was glad that Jennie and Aedan found their HEA -- they were good together, and Jennie needed someone who understood her.
I also liked most of the other characters, especially Loki, who is so much fun. I loved him as a child, and still like him as he is growing up. I'm looking forward to reading the last book in the series.
This one gets 4 stars from me.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
The Brightest Star in the Highlands by Keira Montclair The Clan Grant Series Book Seven Jennie Grant hasn't had the chance to court much...well, at all. Big brother Alex, Laird Grant, has chased any suitors off without even asking her opinion. As the healer for the clan—after yet another skirmish and more wounded, Jennie can't take it anymore. She asks to go the abbey to have peace from her nightmares.
Aedan Cameron does not want to be laird. But no matter how he tried...is father still succumbed to his illness and had Aedan promise he'd lead their clan. He's just not the warrior his sire is though. He'd rather be learning about the stars.
When Aedan is injured, Jennie is called out of her sabbatical to go the keep to care for him. As a healer, she must. It seems she can go no where to find peace from war. Being so far from home, Jennie soon sees things differently and that her brother truly is the greatest laird and warrior. Another great story in this series. **Sexual content http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Jennie and Aedan meet again, when Jennie, in an attempt to get away from all the noises of the injured and dying in her brother's keep, plague her even in her sleep. As the clan's healer, Jennie has been drawn to spend night and day with the soldiers, tending to their wounds and avoiding sleeping, when the moans and screams haunt her dreams. When her brother delivers her to the Grant clan, she arrives just in time to care for the laird. Though he's been severely wounded in battle, caring for him brings no nightmares or uneasiness while caring for him. She still remembers him from her childhood; wonder if he'll remember the young girl, as well?! A pleasure to read. So well written you'll feel a kinship with the brave Scotsmen and women who brave the unknown men attacking their homes.
Jenny Grant is a healer, but recent violent events have caused her to have nightmares and shake her belief in herself. Wanting some time away to figure things out, she heads for Lochluin Abbey, but while there, she cannot escape her calling. The new chieftain is injured, and Jenny is the only one who can save him. Aedan Cameron would rather spend his life as a scholar, but with the recent death of his father and his brother being too young, he is forced to become chief. When Jenny shares her worries and her interests with Aedan, he realizes that she's a kindred spirit. Aedan has many questions about the stars and what lies beyond them. While Jenny wonders about Human Anatomy and how the body works. They quickly become close, but when Aedan's lands are threatened by unknown invaders, Jenny is taken home to the Grant Keep by her older brother, Alex. For years, Alex has stopped any man interested in his sister, and just as she begins to fall for Aedan Cameron, he brings some young men to the Grant Keep to meet her. She refuses all of them in the end and is handfasted with Aedan when he arrives at the Grant keep to ask Alex for her hand. The worst part is when Aedan discovers that a close friend has betrayed him and threatened his life and lands. Without much choice, he's forced to kill his friend to save Jenny. In the end, Jenny and Aedan find both a friend and a companion in each other. Jenny discovers the cause of her nightmares and makes peace with her past trauma.

Aedan is the new young laird of clan Cameron. Jennie is a healer and the youngest sibling of the Clan Grant family. She has nightmares and is overwhelmed with the constant injuries she deals with in her role. Her brother Alex agrees to take her to the abbey for respite and mental healing for a time. The abbey is located on clan Cameron land. Aedan is injured in a battle and Jennie is called upon to bring him back from deaths door which she does. They begin to realize how much they have in common and the attraction grows. However, hidden forces are in place trying to take over the Cameron lands and kill Aedan. This is a great story with many facets and familiar characters. Well done.
I liked The Brightest Star in the Highlands. It was a really easy, enjoyable read that kept me engaged the whole way through.
The characters were likable, especially the main couple. I liked their dynamic—it had a good mix of warmth and tension without feeling over the top. Their relationship developed in a way that felt steady and believable, which made it easy to stay invested.
The pacing worked well too. It moved along without dragging, and I didn’t find myself skimming or losing interest at any point. It’s one of those books that’s just comfortable to read.
Overall, it was a solid Highland romance. Nothing overly complicated, but definitely a good, satisfying read that I’m glad I picked up 😊
Little Jennie has grown into a lovely woman... She is one of the Grant healers... There's problems in the highlands... Someone is attacking neighboring clans.. Jennie is at her wits end with taking care of the fallen... So she has gone to the take care of herself.. doing so she finds Aedan, the new chieftain, needing her help...
One more book in this series and a new series about the children from this series... Looking forward to reading about my little Loki... I'm glad im not having to wait for the books to come out so I can read the next book in the series...
I am always fascinated by the lives of those living in the highlands especially during the 1200s and after. My ancestors are from Wales ,Scotland and Ireland. I read as many books about those areas as I can find . In fact in the last couple of years I have completed hikes of one and two weeks in Ireland, and the English and Scottish borders along Hadrians Wall. I felt so at home feeling that I was walking places my ancestors walked. Thank you for your efforts.
Granted, the heroine is a mere 17 years old. However in 17th century Scotland, that was old enough to be married and a mother. The heroine is a whiny teenager who wants her way regardless of the danger or inconvenience to others. The hero isn't A brawny warrior of legendary skill, he's more human than that. So, despite not finishing this book, I'm giving it two stars, one higher than I otherwise would for decent editing and a hero who's not a womanizing jerk.
Another great addition to the Grant stories. At 17, Jennie thinks she is grown, but she keeps having nightmares. She is an experienced healer, why can't she heal herself. Aedan is crushed when his father, Laird of the Cameron clan, passed away. He was hoping to have a lot more years before he had to take over as Laird. An adventure that will keep you involved and interested throughout the story. I loved it

I just love this series the women are strong and the men want to take care of them but in most books for this time period these are different the men and women fall in love and poor Alex is having such a hard time dealing with his wife's illness he just don't know what to do
I read Loki's story long before I started this series. It's so great to learn more about him. As far as this book, I liked it. Alex is still my favorite but I have liked every single book in the series. I thought the sex scenes were a little flat in this one though.....could be I was just in a crappy mood.
What an exciting book! I read it in one day with my wife right behind me reading the same book. We have read seven books in one week. Don’t remember the last time we watched tv. And now we start with mixed emotions to begin the last book. It has been one heck of a ride
Because healers are so saught after. Especially before everything was really known about the body. It's workings and such. BUT to find someone that shares the drive to learn as well.. so rare. That is why.Aeden found a perfect gift for his True Treasure. Which is Jennie herself. LOL ❤
Best book in the series!!! I read this through KU. This book was great! Finally, the author made a smart, but normal h and a H who is strong but not afraid to embrace his feelings. Lots of action. A plot that makes sense. A plot that was sufficiently resolved. Even a twist that was believable. Well done. I hope this book indicates more greatness to come! 5 stars.
I love this series. I stumbled onto this author's writing and am so grateful I did. Each story is everything I want in a book. If you are interested in Highlander romance tales then start at the beginning and I am confident you will be very glad you did.
Very much enjoy the characters and how they are developing from previous book into current story. Still bit of conflict/mystery and romance but not overwhelming. Looking forward to next book in this series.
Jennie and Aeden were really meant for each other. Both had tragedies they needed to overcome, but together with love for each other and their families their past quit haunting them!😄😄😄😄😄😄
I cant seem to get enough of this authors books. Especially this series i have downloaded the next book already. I am finding them great storylines and characters they are totally additive.
The little sister of the Grant brother finally comes of age and falls in love with someone with the love of knowledge as she has. Also includes betrayal, battles, and kidnapping.
Lovely tale set in the Scottish Highlands, sometime in the 13th century.
This boom was a great read, and kept up momentum until the end. The characters were well developed, so that I wanted their lives to be fulfilled, their problems solved, and their desires fulfilled.
I enjoyed this story. The two main characters were deeply in love. The secondary characters were part of a family who cared for each other. The good and the bad things that happened to them were what brought them together.
A fairly good story. The pacing of the story was about right. There were some pretty likeable characters. The storyline was a bit farfetched though. One thing: astronomy is the study of space, stars & planets... NOT astrology. Just sayin'.
This was very creative and a wonderful read. The cast of Grants and Cameron's are well thought out and although this is the first book I read, I didn't feel lost. Great reading. Thank you
The Grant men are what you expect brave highlander to be yet strong family men. The baby sister is protected and loved. Her romance is touching. The story invites you to keeping reading all the adventures. Wonderful tale
