Desperate to reclaim some part of herself after fleeing an abusive relationship, Samantha decides to spend Labor Day weekend revisiting OtherRealms. She found happiness in the massively multiplayer online game once upon a time. Maybe she could again.
There Sam meets Dax. The charming and kind mercenary is everything her ex never was. Her blissful online escape is soon disrupted by Voss, an abrasive rogue intent on separating them by any means necessary.
The deeper into the game she goes, the more she realizes nothing is what it seems. As wonderful as Dax is, something about him doesn't quite fit. And Voss feels like more of a threat than just an in-game troll.
Everything comes to a head as the long weekend draws to a close, the truth of Dax's story is revealed, and the danger becomes far too real. Can Sam put the pieces together to protect Dax and escape Voss before it's too late?

Hi. I'm Tanya. I write stuff. You should read it. . I like to think of myself as a genre-fluid author of {occasionally} epic fiction. My first trilogy is a character-driven fantasy adventure romance that is very loosely based on a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. My newest book, /OOC, is a LitRPG that dabbles in magical realism - it's been picked up by Insomnia Publishing, and will be out on March 16, 2022. As for me personally, I am currently a basement goblin dreaming of a tiny life in a tiny house (by the ocean) with a tiny cat. I have a car named Abby and a rabbit named Beef, I love Tarot and TT/MMO.RPGs, and I apparently collect cool journals in which I never write.
I really enjoyed this book. It was nostalgic for me and reminded me of my World of Warcraft days! I quickly came to realize that this story is much, much more than just an adventure story. This was a meaningful, yet heartbreaking story.
I loved the characters and the world this book was set in! Fantastic book.
This was very different from what I generally read. As someone totally unfamiliar with the online gaming world, I initially struggled. In fact I had no idea what /OOC meant! But Google was my friend, and I quickly became more comfortable with RPG speak.
The book has intense moments that could be triggering. The protagonist is a young, single woman trying to escape, literally and figuratively, from an abusive relationship. The author draws a very tortured, traumatized being who is struggling to find safety, as well as herself. At the same time however, the author gives her the key to be transformed within a different realm.
Although the ending was not what I hoped for, it was not unexpected. Would definitely like to see what the author writes in the future. .

An exhilarating read from start to finish, /OOC masterfully weaves two worlds into one gripping and fast-paced story. Schofield is a first-class world builder whose elevated but accessible writing allowed this non-gamer to become immediately and thoroughly invested in the game world—and deeply protective and supportive of the main character. Full of rich landscapes, thrilling twists, and complex and compelling characters, this book is begging to be adapted into a television series. I've found my new fandom!.
