This is book four of the Detective Ryan Chase Thriller series and sees DI Chase called to the Clifton Suspension Bridge in the early hours of the morning, after a teenage girl’s body was spotted on the steep terrain down below. Whether she was pushed, fell or jumped is the question. He has his trusty sidekick DS Mallory on the case as well as the rest of his team. Mallory has her own problems at home, with her brother Ollie’s helper Daniel, from Helping Hands, not getting the message after she had broken her rules and gone out for a few drinks with him. He was such a good fit with her brother, especially after the accidental fire in the kitchen that put Ollie’s confidence backwards months. He seemed the ideal man to possibly date, but she never took it that far and stepped away from anything before it could start. Shame he seems to be one of those men that can’t take no for an answer and soon escalates with his behaviour! Ryan is getting along with his ex-wife Donna, after her former partner left her right as she started a fight against cancer, saying he hadn’t signed up for that. She has beaten is for now and is looking towards her future, but it may not be anything like what Ryan was imagining it might be for them.
It is quickly discovered that the young woman, Tai Moore, had been pushed from the bridge, but the weather played a huge part in not being able to identify who she was waiting for, at one end of the bridge, hidden from sight of most. The team have to scour CCTV for clues and look into the victim, especially their social media and internet use. A search of her room soon raises questions about where she got most of the expensive clothes and belongings in her room. His tech expert soon discovers the source of all the expensive ‘extras’ that Tai owns and it leads them to a site on the dark web and another teenage girl possibly in trouble. Chloe Jennings is also missing, within an hour of Tai’s body being found, along with her mother Faye. Chloe has done something to place herself in danger and whilst it is not made clear what exactly for most of the storyline, it is serious enough to warrant their sudden departure and leaving behind any trace of where they went. Neither has been in contact with family, friends, work or college and the pressure is now on DI Chase’s team to find them before another young life might be taken. There is a lot more to the case than first expected and Ryan and his team must put together all the pieces whilst also dealing with issues far closer to home! The storyline leaves you wanting to know what connects each set of characters and this becomes clear as the story progresses. Another fantastic police thriller, with a mix of things going on and the police having to put the pieces together in this puzzle to keep another teen safe and find the killer! You never quite know the whole story or figure out exactly what is happening until the end. I can’t wait to read another story from these characters and to see what crime they might have to solve next! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
