As Connor secretly searches for the enemy homeworld, he launches clandestine military operations to liberate other worlds in hopes of gaining allies before the enemy can find the last human colony.
The humans cannot hope to compete with the enemy’s vast empire, but with the discovery of a new ally, Connor believes their luck has finally changed.
Instead, when new allies clash with the old, Connor finds himself caught in the middle. Connor will have to choose whether doing what’s necessary to ensure the colony survives is worth compromising his loyalty to allies close to home, but the price could ultimately tear the colony apart.
Surviving a war with the enemy isn’t always a numbers game, but in choosing one ally, will Connor lose it all?

I am no longer sure where this series is going. It started off with a huge amount of potential and now it seems to just string the reader along without purpose. I think it might be time to let this one go.
Another enjoyable book in the series. I'm at a loss on what else to say about this series. Honestly it feels like 1 long book, as it's all the same characters and mostly the same story line.
If you enjoyed books 1-9, then 10 won't disappoint.
From book 1 on this series really builds it's characters each time I get to end of a book I want to immediately jump right into the next Definitely recommend this series for anyone who likes sci-fi
This is #10 in the series of the story of the First Colony's attempt to develop a liveable planet to live on after escaping Earth with what looks like the last members of humanity. Into this mix was placed Connor and his Ghosts an elite group of Blackops militia developed to fight to defend against aggressors. They also had to learn to adapt to becoming part of the growing community but their expertise has been allowed to develop a defense system for the planet with both troops and equipment. They have over the years living on the planet that they share the space with former native inhabitants, who have a strange attitude to others of their kind in terms of getting along. The differences are mainly due to which group thinks they have the best-stolen technology to fight the common enemy of all--the Krake. One group called the Ovarrow has allied with the colonist group and even has joined forces to fight with the colonists under Connor's military forces. Because the colonists are progressing on finding another planet to move too, Connor had been exploring on-planet with his wife Lorena, different sites to find more technology. At one of these sites, they find a huge force of inhabitants who call themselves the Konus, under the leadership of Kormaus. When told of the group of Ovarrow, this group wants to incorporate them into their group and attempts to do this by a massive invasion but is stopped by the combined forces of the CDF and the Ovarrow. Connor is troubled by the technology they used during the battle and wants answers. Meanwhile, Lars Mallory faces his sentencing, mentally preparing himself for banishment. On his way to his sentence, he is given a chance to redeem himself for his deeds by choosing to join an elite commando group who will fight off-world, defending New Earth.
The Scopes of the books tend to go back and forth between having large space encompassing conflicts to being the earth side personal conflicts. Sometimes we get a mixture of both in the books. For book 10 it is definitely more of a personal earth side type of conflict. We actually get to see some action, politics and tense situations our characters are put into.
The books themselves are not entirely all that deep. They are fast and easy reads that can be reread without getting tiresome. It has been a soft military Sci-Fi series mix. Connor Gates remains a focal viewpoint character and we do get to see some of Noah as well as the addition of a few new povs. this book has the feel of something meant to wet the appetite of fans of the series while setting up the books that will have real meat in them.
I think I went with a four star rating instead of five this time around because it did have the feel of a filler story. It is not bad for what it is and the actual price range for the book justifies it being a fairly high rating in my opinion. It's a good series to have in your electronic library for rainy week read.
The series is a clean series without anything that would justify a warning for young adults and above.
Felt more bitty than the previous few in the series, less cohesive and with less of a full story within it. Still enjoyable, of course. How there are more to come, to compete the series and open story arcs!
This is a very good book, grammar is good, characters are engaging as always, action is very good. The story flows very nicely, you care about what happens to the characters you've grown close to in the book. I'm very interested to see what happens next. Keep up the good work!
I really enjoyed how the first colony story moves forward with a surprising new discovery on new earth and a large battle with an unexpected enemy. Ken has done a good job fleshing out the characters while focusing on Conner’s storyline.
I enjoyed this book, but I do wish the story would move along a little faster. Ken is an excellent author. It seems like there is such a rush to release that we get a handful of chapters that have been flashed out to create a novella. However, I will be awaiting the next in the series.
Another exceptional read from author Ken Lozito! I thought that the series would have stagnated by Book 10, but it has maintained its drama and excitement throughout. I enjoy the development of the principal characters, and feel as if I've grown up with them. I can't wait for the next installment!
Why not five stars? Five stars are reserved for perfection.😃
I hope the next in the series is not too long coming . This book was well worth the wait and I enjoy how the characters have developed throughout. The tension is starting to build and I can't wait for the action to continue
This is a well written series apart from a few typos in the text. This series delivers on fast paced action and raises some interesting issues in first contact negotiations. I look forward to the next in the series
As all of every one I have read, great 👍. Action, love, characters . I love Noah. I always want more and can't wait for w next one. Mr. Lock to you can never quit!!!!
This story line sees to be going on forever. That's not necessarily bad, but it seems to be almost the same thing in each book. General Conner Gates in the Commander of the Colony Defense Force (CDF) and he does his job very well. He is on New Earth, a colony of Earth, but they have lost contact with the home planet so many of them consider New Earth to be their home and only home. While New Earth was thought to have been an uninhabited paradise when first found, it turns out that it's native population were the Ovvarrow.
The Ovvarrow race had been on New Earth for many, many years but had been attacked by the dreaded Krake who wanted to rule not only their own universe, but multiple universes, including the one New Earth and even Earth is located in. General Gates and his CDF understand the threat the Krake are and if they come back to New Earth, it will be a very hard fought battle that the humans might not win. They have been reviving Ovvarrows from their self-imposed cyro-pods where they chose to go when they thought the Krake were coming. Over sixty-thousand Ovvarrows have been awakened and they have established their own city near one of the humans cities. Slowly, over time, the language barrier has been breached and had become much more easily to do so with some newly discovered Krake technology.
The CDF has gone through the interdimensional gates that the Krake have left behind and their intent is to find the Krake home-world and finish off the Krake. It won't be easy and the CDF have been finding other Ovvarrow colonies that they have freed from Krake control. These Ovvarow have become allies with the humans as have the Ovvarrow on New Earth. The Ovvarrow can produced strong warriors, but their numbers are not large. General Gates wife, Lenora, is an archelogist who seeks out hidden and remote sites that the Ovvarrow once occupied on New Earth. With General Gates on one of her exploratory missions, they do run across some interesting Ovvarrow artifacts which lead them to a confrontation with a new group of Ovvarrow. This new group, called the Konus, a very militaristic, large group of Ovvarrow. If they would ally with the humans and the other Ovvarrow, then this would give New Earth a significant boost in strength and might be enough to hold back any Krake attackes.
Unfortunately, these new Ovvarrow, the Konus, have other ideas about their planet and who should be leading the Ovvarrow. While they talk like they want to be allied with the humans, their actions speak otherwise. It would not be good for the humans and Ovvarrow to start fighting themselves.
The writing is good in these stories and the characters are the same and very familiar. There are some side-stories that seem to just be fillers for the book, like the section on Lars Mallory. He's in prison awaiting trail, but what he did has already been covered in other books. Everyone knows he's going to be exiled so why bring that all up again in this book. I guess it did add a few chapters, but it wasn't relevant to the rest of the story.
I'm sure this will continue in book 11, "Invasion", because they have yet to really battle the Krake. That will have to happen sometime in the future and that will be a very good book to read.
Connor do as always. Made everything happen. He and Lenora find a large group of Ovarrow and a new conflict arise. The Governor had a virus that complicates many things and there isn't a new info about the Krake. Noah is better but still had problems and Sean is on the lunar base doing different projects to support the security of the colony. Finally Lars understand the errors that he made and going to try to make something better... Another great story and more development for every character, more intrigue and conflicts.
