If you love historical fiction, romance, Gothic Medieval Monuments, and Paris, you should NOT miss this book. After reading at least six L’Amour novels, I’m overwhelmed by the exquisite writing of this novel. Dare I say a masterpiece? I believe it could be considered that one day.
It is not an easy feat to combine romance with historical characters and settings, all while making it realistic, historically accurate, AND a page-turner. It is even poetic. There is so much beauty in the connections L’Amour makes between the past, the present, and amazingly the future.
Imagine a young American journalist arriving in Paris to cover the restoration of historic landmark Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, which was almost destroyed by a devastating fire in 2019. During her assignment she encounters behind-the-scenes heroes who have devoted their lives to preserving its majestic legacy. And once-in-a-lifetime love.
There’s so much mystery and magic, and L’Amour doesn’t miss one opportunity to expound upon, and lift up each aspect of its history in a prismatic homage. It’s like a giant hug around the French national treasure.
Bravissima, Ms. L’Amour.
