Wolff isn't just my name; it's who I am. An apex predator always on the hunt. The Gray Wolf has become synonymous with the name Dorian Wolff. It's a brand I've work hard to build. I'm at the top of the food chain, dependent on no one. I make the rules and I have only one. "Do Not F**k With Me" When everything I thought I knew about myself begins to change. I know it's because of her. Her scent haunts me and after one taste I know it will never be enough. My prey has a name...Olivia Frost *Trigger This book features dark themes that may be sensitive to some readers. Discretion is advised*
This one was hard for me to get through. The story jumped around a lot. I would sometimes get confused because the characters would switch locations without indication of such. There were several grammatical and spelling errors. I liked the story line, but I felt that it was very underdeveloped.
Dorian Wolff submits to no one. Not ever again. Every aspect of his life is about being in control of his situations. It’s as good as he thinks it can be until he meets a situation he can’t control: Olivia Frost. The Ice Queen, she has been dubbed by the men who have met her. Dorian wants to thaw her rigid edges. He wants to consume her. He wants to control her. Who will end up consuming who?
The very first thing I noticed on page 1 was a lack of contractions. This makes the writing feel stiff and exceptionally formal. At least when the characters speak they use them which breaks up the monotony, but it still feels unnatural to read. It’s definitely a BDSM book. I don’t mind that or most kinks but the book really does sort of jump right into it with no preamble. I thought the book was going to be about werewolves or shapeshifters. No cigar. Just a book about an ‘alpha male’ who views himself as an animal. There’s a lot of telling and not showing. This feels like an early writer’s error, one that is rectified with practice. While “Wicked Wolff” isn’t Reese Spenser’s first book, she hasn’t been in the game that long so I’m inclined to believe she will adjust as she finds her fit. That’s just my opinion.
Dorian Wolff gives off massive SA vibes with entitlement to boot. It isn’t attractive or desirable. Honestly, he makes me feel like I need to invest in a taser. I mean, he definitely assaulted Olivia multiple times within the first 37 pages of the book. I’ve literally read books where women are stalked, kidnapped, sold, etc. that are still somehow more romantic and authentic. The book didn’t really seem to have any sort of fluidity in its progression. While reading it, it felt like the final season of GoT where there were scenes sewn together with no segues or cohesion. The storyline got pretty intense which I don’t mind. It’s always difficult to read even in passing about physical and sexual abuse being done to a child. While the book and Dorian himself alluded to a darker beginning to his BDSM journey, I wasn’t really expecting it to be a detailed account of what happened when he was fourteen. For better or for worse, I’ve read some pretty intense things in my life. Depraved, in some cases. So even if I found this bit of the story surprising and became a little green around the gills, I was able to get through it with minimal issue. I do feel like a bit of warning in this review is necessary for some, however.
I don’t recommend this book. I wanted to like it but just didn’t. There was a lot about it that felt too much like “Fifty Shades of Grey” but rushed. I understand, an original story is difficult to come by. I don’t need complete originality but this just felt rushed and flat to me.
This is my first Reese Spenser book which I got as one of the books received in her subscription box (which I saw on Instagram). I enjoy all sorts of books, including the explicit romance novels and I like finding new authors that I normally wouldn’t come across. I didn’t really know what to expect from this but I knew it would probably be a steamy read. The sex scenes were described nicely and weren’t a repeat of the same thing each time. Sorry if it’s TMI but I admit, I got a little excited while I read and imagined my own scene with a man I am admiring but unfortunately not dating. I know it’s probably not everyone’s jam but I feel like I actually learned something about the Dominant/Submissive type of relationship and I understand it a little better. Aside from the bedroom scenes, the story of the characters was endearing and kept me picking up the book whenever I got the chance. It has a slightly similar story to Fifty Shades of Grey but different at the same time. Although the story was focused on the relationship between the 2 main characters, there were a few characters introduced that would have been nice to read about a little more. I also noticed a few minor errors, like a word tense or quotation marks missing in a dialogue but it didn’t take away from the read. I’m currently reading Tainted Bond as an e-book so I was excited to see mention of the characters in either story. It will be very interesting to see how the 2 book series intertwine.
When a book is listed as BDSM Erotica or Romantic Erotica I expect a lot of spicy scenes, more spice than plot. Wicked Wolff did not give me that. It is a very sweet plot, reminiscent of shorter and quicker version of 50 Shades of Grey. I was hoping for more BDSM playtime from the main characters, or even just more spice all around. I didn't hate the main characters, but there wasn't anything spectacular about them either. All in all it was an ok read, that I finished quickly and was mildly entertained while reading it.
Wicked Wolff started out so strong. The chemistry between Olivia & Dorian was undeniable & while the story was heavily reminiscent of the 50 Shades series, Spenser put her own twist on it. This was a quick, steamy, read, but I found I was distracted by the editing errors. One more editing pass through and I would have rated higher.
I really couldn't get into this book. It just seemed overly pretentious and didn't have a natural dialogue / flow. So many others wouldn't agree with me, though, so make sure if you are considering reading it, you judge for yourself.
It’s a very slow book. It’s decent, I wouldn’t recommend honestly. I only finished it because I got it in a book subscription. If it wasn’t signed, I’d donate it away. Characters are hard to relate too, Both rich and always has been. Not very spicy. Really had to push through to the finish.
