I've read the rest of the series, and book 23 didn't disappoint. Typical Libby and her loonies at their best!
Libby and Ben live in Steeple Martin, Ben runs his parents' estate, he has just opened a brewery, and the pub is about to open. Ben and Libby also run the Oast Theatre in the village, and Libby often directs shows there, especially pantomines. Libby is also an artist, when she has time!
Libby gets herself involved in local murders which seem to find their way onto her radar. Ian is a DCI who has often used the info Libby comes across.
Helping Libby is Fran, who lives in nearby Nethergate. When she's not running around with Libby, she helps her partner, Guy, run his gallery.
In this book, a homeless man goes missing, a body is found, and there are rumours of problems at a caravan site in Nethergate. Libby starts to try and piece things together, feeling that they are somehow linked.
The books are all standalone stories, but they are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book when it's released.
I loved the book, as I have the whole series, but I don't think that I can stand much more of Fran's condescending attitude towards Libby. I'm grinding my teeth every time she tells her who she can speak to and what she can do; even when she is proven to be wrong, she never apologises or accepts that Libby's 'flights of fancy' are anything but. She lacks even the fundamental intuition and creativity that she displayed in the first few books and has become rude, boring, and irritating. I could write a whole essay on why she is supremely unqualified to lecture anyone on their choices, but I'd settle for her having a personality overhaul in time for the next book. Either that or being sent on an extended break to visit her son.
Used to enjoy this series. This one just seemed tedious repetitive and oh so do gooder ish. Rogation, get used to that word if your going to read this book. I couldn't care less who killed or why as it may be fiction but I just couldn't get into the fantasy . Struggled to finish.
As always, Lesley Cookman gives great value with her Libby Sargeant mysteries. This time there's dodgy dealing at the caravan park, migrant workers and a runaway. Addictive.
