Crimes of Passion #2

Like A Bird In Flight

Rate this book
The Crimes of Passion series continues...

Ivy Rogers always gets her way.
Not lately, though.

An unexpected love triangle last year left her already-troubled marriage in shambles—and she’s still working to pick up the pieces. An open marriage was supposed to save their relationship—spice things up and break up the mundane—but it did just the opposite, leaving Ivy heartbroken and sending her lover off to prison. Now separated, Ivy’s determined to get back what she’s lost: a salacious husband with a padded bank account.

And she’ll do just about anything to win him back.

There’s only one problem: Ivy’s a mom now. And her husband, Sawyer, isn’t the father of her newborn son. Nursery rhymes and late-night feedings aren’t on his agenda, and Ivy knew this going into the marriage. But the domestic life of a single mom wasn’t quite what she had in mind, either.

With a newly hired nanny on staff, Ivy quickly falls into a pattern of destructive behavior. And when the divorce papers show up, she decides it’s time to turn back to her roots. As a former escort, she seeks solace in the dark corners of a local brothel while making her way to the bottom of a never-ending bottle. It’s only a matter of time before Ivy’s escapades backfire. By then, she’ll have lost everything.

Now she’s run into some legal trouble of her own. With a dark secret threatening her padded life of luxury, Ivy’s time for retribution may be running out. Will her past mistakes finally catch up with her? Or will she find a way to cheat the justice system once and for all?

Deceptively charming, sultry, and fast-paced, Like A Bird In Flight is a provocative psychological thriller for fans of the unreliable narrator.

Well, fuck.
If you know me at all, then you know I fell in love with Lady Jump last August and never looked back.
This book is no exception.
Why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5 then?
While it is spicy, it was less spicy than the first book.
We do get more of the hot mess that is Ivy, that chick is bananas and I am here for it!

Ivy was by far my favourite character in WYLTLH, and all I wanted was more time inside that crazy bird's head.
It's like Lady Jump read my mind...or the slew of DM's I sent her begging for more Ivy lol.
I guess we'll never know.
I wish the 3rd book was out because that ending? Are you freaking kidding me?!

LIKE A BIRD IN FLIGHT is book #2 in the Crimes of Passion series. It's recommended to first read book #1 in the series, WOULDN'T YOU LOVE TO LOVE HER, first as this can't be read as a stand-alone.

Ivy is back and now has a son named Dylan. Her husband Sawyer is not the father, he has never wanted children. Ivy decides to hire a nanny to help take care of baby Dylan, and let's just say maybe that was a bad idea!! Ivy's life takes a turn when she is arrested for a murder. Will Ivy be found guilty or not??

If you've enjoyed Shannon Jump's other books you are sure to like this one too. It's fast-paced with short chapters and alternating points of view, this keeps the book interesting.

Many thanks to Shannon Jump for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This review will be posted on Instagram @coffee.break.book.reviews in the near future.

LIKE A BIRD IN FLIGHT will be available on Kindle Unlimited on release day July 19, 2022.

After you finish Wouldn’t You Love to Love Her, you will just devour this second book in the Crimes of Passion Series! I loved this dark and devious series as it is unlike anything I have read. It is so sensual and spicy, you just cannot help but read it in a matter of hours!

The ending left us with a major cliffhanger that I am impatiently waiting for the 3rd book. Definitely pickup this deliciously spicy series!

A big thanks to Shannon Jump for the review copy of the book!

AVAILABLE NOW ON KINDLE, KINDLE UNLIMITED, AND PAPERBACK!

It's really hard to sum up this book without giving away the ending to the first in series, Wouldn't You Love To Love Her, so instead, here's what you can expect from Like a Bird in Flight :

Sex
Murder
Deception
Then some more sex, more murder, and of course, some more deception.

Enjoy the ride, my friends!

As well as my favorite quote from the book:
"This battlefield we stand on is built on love, destroyed by it just the same. We’re all merely pawns in a life-sized game of chess, like tiny soldiers taking the first bullets on the front lines, and if we’re lucky, one of us will still be standing in the end.

There’s no telling who it will be."

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔? 𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍. 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍. 𝑨𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒅𝒐 𝒊𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒅𝒂𝒚; 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕. 𝑺𝒐, 𝒊𝒇 𝒊𝒕'𝒔 𝒐𝒌𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒔, 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒄𝒂𝒏'𝒕 𝒊𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒐𝒌𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒔?

LIKE A BIRD IN FLIGHT is book 2 of 3 in the Crimes of Passions series. You absolutely should NOT read this book before reading WOULDN'T YOU LOVE TO LOVE HER.

Picking up right where book one left off, we find Ivy Rogers, who is so used to getting her way, in a predicament. Her love triangle blew up in her face; her lover is now sitting in prison, and her husband left her. Used to his attention and his money, Ivy is desperate to get him back, but there's just one small problem that's cramping her style--she's a mom now, and her husband Sawyer doesn't want kids. The baby isn't his anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem, right? Wait, WHAT?

Depressed and lacking any sort of maternal instincts, Ivy dumps her baby with a live-in nanny and falls back into her addictive lifestyle, showing up in brothels and drinking herself into a stupor. She has no idea the trouble that's brewing behind the scenes, and when things took that dramatic turn they did, I couldn't swipe the pages fast enough. When I got to that ending, all I could think about was how in the world Shannon going to resolve all of these messes in book three?

I LOVE this series, which is dark and voyeuristic, full of characters you will claim to hate but secretly admire. I adore the fact that so many of my Bookstagrammer friends are used as names for the characters. I tried very hard not to see their faces as I was reading!

This gem will be available on July 19, 2022. Endless thanks to the author for allowing me to be a member of her street team and have early access to this book!

Omg! They are crazy I thought when i read the first book. Here was the same. It was like a tv show these relations in the the family. Anyway well wrap up and suspance, desire on the top, also in a fun way done. I would die if this happened to me but in way also turning one on and hot as hell. And behind the story there was an other one.. very dark but also claver done. Spies, betraying, suspects, needs...faboulous summer read I guess. Thank you Shannon so much for the arc.

Knocked it out of the park again @sjump4203! This being book two in the Crime Of Passion series I was nervous it wouldn’t live up to my expectations after loving book one so much, but thankfully it far surpassed them.

There were so many things I enjoyed throughout this book so to name a few;

👠 I absolutely love the writing style and how the characters are talking directly to you as a reader, it made it feel so much more personal.

👠 The freaking steam 🔥 so naughty but in the classiest way possible 🥰

👠 Im so happy we were able to dive into the backgrounds of Ivy and Sawyer. Super interesting back story and puts a lot of the pieces of the puzzle together.

👠 The diary - such a good twist!

👠 That ending!!!!!! I need book three in the worst way!!!!!

Coming out July 19th - everyone needs to read the first two books of this three book series asap!! It will 100% satisfy your every craving!! Now patiently waiting for book three 😍

Thanks so much for the #ARC - I never knew how bad I needed this!

“𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙡 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚; 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙙, 𝙖 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜.”

Let me start by saying holy shit, Shannon did the damn thing with this book!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Like a Bird in Flight is told in 1st person alternating between POVs of Sawyer and Ivy with a few chapters from Alisha sprinkled in.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I love Shannon’s writing so much that she could write a manual on how to fix a toilet and I’d be reading it front to back. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Okay now onto the book. Do not read this without reading book 1!! I can’t say too much about this book without giving things away but here’s what I loved: This book picks up right where book one left off and the opening chapter with Alisha was amazing. The new characters introduced were perfect additions. Caramie? Love her. Ivy? Love to hate her. The chapters are the perfect length and leave you wanting more. The timeline is easy to follow and the twists, just wow. 🤯 This is a book you’ll want to read in one sitting. The ending was fucking genius once again and now I’m impatiently waiting for book 3. If you thought that last book was provocative, this one’s even better 🥵😈

Even though Shannon kills my character off (how dare her 🙄), I highly recommend this book and entire series!!

When I read WYLTLH, I was absolutely floored by the jaw dropping sex, murder, swinging, etc that took place. It was exciting, erotic, mysterious and chilling. So as you can imagine- I could not WAIT to get this book.
When I tell you that it was like watching live drama unfold directly in front of you- I was fist pumping, whistling, laughing, waiting for more.
These characters are all so well written- each one with their own vendettas and agendas ready to go. Ivy? I gotta give it to you- this book made me love her character. Finally an inside look at the psychotic mind of our most hated woman.
If you love a good thriller that has a sexy edge to it- read this novel. Shannon has an effortless way to write these stories that keep you hoping for more and more.

Shannon Jump has crafted another addictive unputdownable thriller. Second in her Crimes of Passion Series, this book takes place right after book 1 concludes.

I can't say much about this book without spoiling book 1, but I can say this book is filled with nasty people, more so than book 1. Alisha, the main character in book 1, isn't featured as predominantly, and I do miss her. I loved to hate Alisha (although TBH I really didn't hate her).

This book is also spicy, but perhaps less so, only 4 peppers 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, either that or I'm a bit desensitized 😂

It's addictive, kept me up too late, and I flew through it. Like book 1, it's short, no fluff, and flies by.

Sometimes the journey of the story is better than the ending. Not so here. That ending! 🤯 Definitely leaves me dying of anticipation of book 3.

Like A Bird In Flight is the second installment in the Crimes of Passion series. Heads up: read WYLTLH (the first book in the series) before reading this one, or you won’t get the full story here.

Where to start with this book. 😱
It’s a tough review to do without spoilers and is a wild ride for sure.
Here goes…

Ivy. Alisha. Sawyer. Cara.
Murder. Sex. Lies. More lies. More sex. Oh and more Murder. 🖤

You get a lot of backstory here told from the perspective of all of these horrible people and I enjoyed hearing all sides although it’s not a pretty story no matter who’s telling it. I flew through this one and if you like dark and dirty, you will too. It’s heavy on the dirty (in many many ways).

🤐 I will just say, I think I need therapy after being in the minds of these girls (and Sawyer too). It’s like peering into a dark hole and seeing exactly what you thought you would see. So yeah, I needed a shower after reading this one but can’t wait to see what happens next. 🤷‍♀️ What can I say, it’s that kind of book (and series) and I’m that kind of reader.

If you enjoy dark storylines and characters that get under your skin and stay there, this entire series is for you.

Shannon writes a relatable tale which is pretty amazing considering she has once again crossed genres with this series. 😱 I feel like I said nothing here but you just have to read this one to find out what I’m trying to say. I’m still processing and finished it last week.

Like A Bird In Flight is out in the wild next week. Get ready to get down and dirty with Ivy and her inner circle.

Endless thanks to Shannon for my early copy. Now, I think I’ll go take another shower.

I’m making a pact with myself right this instant that the next book in the series will be read the minute, no wait, the second I get notice that I have it. I don’t care what I’m doing, what I’m reading, what I’m wearing….it will be read right then and there.

It was hard to find any place in this story that was a stopping point for breaks. I mean, I was just so damn tired and wanted to go to sleep….but no, I had to keep reading to see how the hell else I could be shocked.

As the final twist was approaching, my mind was starting to unwrap the bow and peek inside. But wait….what the hell…..Holy sh*t….that was NOT what I was expecting when I opened the lid to the twist 🤯 How do you continue to do this, @sjump4203. What a whopper of an ending we had yet again….and yet again, I’m left here already impatiently waiting for the next installment.

And also……It’s like there is just an aura of sex over the entirety of the story. I don’t know how Jump does it, but even in the most mundane scene (of which there really aren’t any anyway…silly me), she writes with this degree of sexiness that makes every scene feel spicy. 🌶

I am, again, beyond honored to be a part of the Jump Street Team and am imploring all of you to read these books. I can’t see how anyone would be disappointed in this choice!

“Like a Bird in Flight” was a compelling, roller-coaster book that not only told a good story, but wrapped me up in the characters. It provided the rare experience where the reader feels the character's point of view so keenly as to feel that they are living it right along with them. Such a great book!!!! There were so many twists that I did not predict and I love that because most books are so predictable Well done!

The books in the Crimes of Passion series cannot stand alone as they each tell a different character's version of the same events. If you have not read Book 1, please note, there will be SPOILERS ahead.

Book Two in the series follows Ivy. It's about a year after Alisha goes to prison for her husband's murder. Ivy is desperate to contact her to tell her some important news: she's just had a baby, and it was with Alisha's husband. But Alisha won't respond to Ivy's attempts to reach her. And Ivy's husband is giving her the cold shoulder for having a baby that wasn't his. Don't they already know that Ivy is not one to be ignored?

Jump fans rejoice - if you've loved Shannon's books in the past, this one is much of the same:
- love triangles ⚠️
- sex & lots of it 🌶
- murder 🔪
- twists & turns 🌪
- and some dark & twisted female characters 🙋🏻‍♀️

There's quite a bit of repetition in the story, as this book is told through three POVs and each is telling their version of events. It's also repetitive because it's recapping the situations from Book 1 while telling another MC's backstory.

Shannon's writing is quick and engaging. You could binge this book in one sitting & once you start it, you'll definitely want to!

Can't wait to see how Book 3 ties this bad boy all up... tying people up? I think the female leads in this series would love that! 😂

Thank you, Shannon, for having me on your Jump Street Team! 🥰

Oh. My. Gosh. Wow. I had this read in a day! About half way through I figured out what was probably going to happen but I didn't know how and that ending😲 again. Such a surprise and didn't see that twist coming. This book will have you turning the pages so fast! I didn't think I'd like it as much as the first one, but I was wrong. Make sure you check out her first one Wouldn't You Love to Love Her and then read this one! You won't be disappointed!

Another expertly written thriller novel by Shannon Jump! 5 Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ worthy for certain! If you liked WYLTLH, then you are going to freaking LOVE 💖her latest novel, Like A Bird In Flight! It picks up right where it left Alisha and DOESN’T LET YOU GO until you are finished reading all about Ivy and her crazy, mischievous ways. Shannon is so talented with her writing that you actually forget that you are NOT supposed to be cheering for the “bad” guy…or in this case… girl. 😉 If you are looking for an unputdownable read, seriously look no further. This sassy 2nd installation of her Crimes of Passion series is just what you need! 😁🎉 I couldn’t stop reading parts of it out loud to my husband as I was following him around the house…yes folks…it’s that good! Can’t wait for you all to get your own copy so you can read and see for yourself. 😜❤️ 👠

What a great addition to the Crimes of Passion Series! I was hooked by the reviews for Wouldn’t You Love To Love Her and bought it immediately on Amazon. Then I saw the author was looking for book two ARC readers and I was sold. Having read them both now, I can honestly say that this author is headed to my auto-buy list!

This story picks up where the last one leaves off and fills us in on some of the holes in the original story - not holes exactly, but a different perspective which in hindsight makes it feel like a hole … if that makes sense.

We follow Ivy and Sawyer in this one with a few blips from Alisha. It’s so interesting to get these POVs from this story. It ends with a promise for more and I cannot wait!

Shannon, you have done it again! Another fabulous installment to the Crimes of Passion series. Before you read this one, make sure that you read the first book in the series titled, Wouldn’t You Love to Love Her. There was so much suspense and spice. I read it in 3 days-it is unputdownable. Is that a word?! 😆

Still murdery, still sexy, still hot !
This series is highly addictive, and just like any addiction, I can't get enough of it ! I already can't wait for book three !!
I loved everything about this book, but what I loved most is the storytelling. The characters talk directly to the reader, I felt included in the story and that's a very nice touch.
Once again, Shannon won me over with a unique psychological thriller, and of course, this book totally deserve the highest rating.

A huge congratulations to Shannon Jump on the publication of her 4th book, and the second in the Crimes of Passion series: Like A Bird in Flight.

The Crimes of Passions series isn’t for the faint of heart but it is for readers who enjoy:

▪️Gritty storytelling.
▪️Steam.
▪️A fast paced plot.
▪️More steam.
▪️Shocking twists.
▪️Did I mention the steam?

While Wouldn’t You Love To Love Her is Alisha’s story, in Like A Bird In Flight, readers get to dive deeper into the relationship of Ivy and Sawyer but really- it’s Ivy who shines here. This new villainous leading lady certainly holds her own. I have always known Jump to be a talented writer but she has floored me with the constant stream of edgy, dark thrillers that all contain strangely endearing characters. All hail Shannon Jump, the queen of the morally gray!

I cannot wait for the third book of this series! I am keeping this post spoiler free but me thinks we will be getting plenty of highly charged scenes between Ivy and Alisha 👀

"Psychotic women turn me on."

And these women are psychotic! Alisha (the main character in the first book, "Wouldn't You Love To Love Her") and Ivy (the main character in this book) are both characters that you love to hate. (I ended up 'liking' Alisha, but I still hating Ivy!) They manipulate people to get ahead. While Alisha has only recently admitted to having feelings besides pleasure, Ivy possesses no feelings beyond pure selfishness. I love the twists and turns! The ending completely left me wanting more! I can't believe the layers of this story.

This book will be available July 19, 2022!!
