Kenneth Hagin has such a vast knowledge of the Bible, and the gift to make things easily understood. No big words, just big truths and many for instances and real life stories. I find all his books very liberating, pointing to the Word (and Jesus is the Word!) and helping to identify and unlearn wrong, unbiblical thinking. The appendices to this edition are an added, valuable bonus. Another keeper.

“When you pray in tongues, your mind grows quiet— because you are not praying out of your mind. And once your mind is quiet, you become more conscious of your own spirit, and of spiritual things.
Get out of the sense realm. Get out of the flesh realm. Get out of the human reasoning realm.
Get over into the faith realm and into the spirit realm. Faith is of the spirit—and that's where great things happen!”

"We are not to seek voices.

We should not follow voices.

We should follow the Word of God."
(Kenneth E. Hagin, How You Can Be Led by the Spirit of God, Page 87)

Kenneth Hagin, a well-known minister in charismatic circles who is no longer with us in the body, but is present with the Lord, teaches what he says he was mandated by God to teach on: How you can be led by the Spirit of God.

He says, we should not be led by mind, but we should be led by the spirit. That our spirit bears witness with God's Spirit. Often times, we will get a check in our spirit about things; however, we ignore this and go with what our head says and this can lead us into trouble. He doesn't say to throw away your brains, but to use the spirit that God has given you in combination with your mind and body. I can attest to this personally, as I have had instances in my life where there was a check in my spirit about something, but I ignored it and went with my head or my body, this caused me grief in the end. If only I would have listened to my spirit and the Holy Spirit. But there is good news, God's love covers all our wrongs even when we do miss it (See 1 Peter 4:8). All our mistakes are on the cross both past and present.

There were a few funny stories in this book that had me laughing out load. He has a great sense of humour. When speaking on the subject of thanksgiving, he said this that made me laugh:

"There are too many people in the church who are full of griping and complaining, instead of being full of thanksgiving. They've always got something to grip about. I've heard people say, "They don't let me sing in the choir." Well, they don't let me sing in the choir either. They may have heard both of us, and that's the reason they don't!" (page 161).

Let the Spirit of God lead and guide you into all truth. This book will give you tools and examples of how to be led by the Holy Ghost! This is by no means an exhaustive book on the Holy Spirit and I believe from the books I have read by Kenneth Hagin that he had an incomplete knowledge of Spiritual Gifts, as he only mentions the 9 gifts of the Spirit, when clearly there are more than this amount of spiritual gifts in the Body of Christ. I would highly recommend C. Peter's Wagner book Your Spiritual Gifts Can Help Your Church Grow for a more comprehensive teaching on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Still a great book on the Holy Spirit through with a much needed focus on being led of the Spirit.

2025 Review: So interesting that I have read this book every other year since 2021 when my life was radically changed. I didn’t plan that at all. This book is such a key gem I hold dear to my heart until today. Wherever I go and believers questions things of the spirit or hearing the Lord I always referred them to this book. This time I reread it due to a bible study. Still get so much from it even after 4 years.

2023 Review: I loved rereading this book again to refresh and go back to where it all started. Also to learn more how to be led by the Spirit. Such a good book full of revelation!

2021 Review: Whoa, what a gem! If you want to dig deeper in your relationship with God, read this book!

What a gem! I could not put this book down. Kenneth Hagin was a baptist minister in the 1940's who got filled with the holy spirit and became a mighty evangelist/speaker operating in the gifts of words of knowledge and discerning of spirits and healing. In this book he covers many subjects related to the Holy Spirit such as: The difference between the body/soul/spirit, putting out a fleece in prayer, learning to listen to the inward witness, the difference between hearing the holy spirit in us or our own spirits, different types of visions, and praying through a situation...along with many others. He explains several instances where Jesus himself sat and spoke with him revealing truths from his word. This book is a power house of information, one that I will definitely read over and over again.

this was a good look as an overview of being led by the spirit of god. there were many good illustrations of points. there were many times, though, that i wish he had gone into greater depth. there were some points, in light of new things that i am learning, that i realized didn't really fit in with what i believe. i love that he talked about prophesy and its proper use. i also love that he focused mainly on the inwards witness. i am very glad for the opportunity to read this book.

In all honesty I read this without knowing anything about Hagin's contribution to the foundation of prosperity gospel, which I disagree with wholeheartedly. The (biblically backed) parts of the book that had to do with understanding difference between spirit, soul, and flesh and their relative roles in our connection with God were helpful and arguably the most important takeaway despite it being covered in the first few chapters. The chapter on "fleecing" (God if you want XYZ to happen, then do *insert random sign*) aka accepting everything that happens in your life (good or bad) as something that must be God's intentional doing was an actually great point about the weight of free will and what inquiring of Him should look like.

Edit: Word of Faith (a shootoff of pentacostal) vs Prosperity teachings. The latter came from followers of WoF but Hagin himself was against the ideas of pastors trying to get / promising absurd amounts of wealth if you give $XXX or say a certain prayer (see: The Midas Touch - Hagin)

I read this book as part of a bible study, but I didn't like the book. It is a Pentecostal book and I don't agree with a lot of their doctrine.

Kenneth Hagin is unashamedly a Full Gospel minister. His theology is based on the reality and work of the Holy Spirit, and it’s in that context that he writes the book How You Can Be Led by the Spirit of God (Legacy Edition, Faith Library Publications, 2006). Admittedly, there are some teachings in the book that seem a bit out of the ordinary to mainstream Christianity, but the book’s contents need to be seriously considered because most of what he says is clearly Biblically based. When we refuse to consider theological positions that are a bit outside our own experience, we risk “putting the brakes” on the Spirit. Jesus Himself “could not do mighty works in Nazareth because of the people’s unbelief”(Mt. 13:58). Similarly in Mark 6, when a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech was brought to Jesus for healing, Jesus “took him aside from the multitude” to heal him.” In a “conversation Hagin had with Jesus about this text:
“The Lord asked me, Why do you think I took him aside from the multitude?”
I don’t know,” I said. “I’ve always wondered.”
The Lord said, “I couldn’t heal him in that multitude. There was too much unbelief there”(How You Can Be Led By the Spirit of God by Kenneth Hagin, Faith Library, 1978, pp. 195-196.)
Hagin distinguishes between the role of the body, the soul and the spirit and contends that much of people’s efforts to be guided by God is based in their feelings (their body) or their mind (their rational thinking processes). But he maintains that a true Christian is one who is born again in the spirit and that spirit is where the Holy Spirit comes to dwell. Christians can be guided by God if they will be attentive to how the Spirit leads their spirit, in harmony with the Words of the Bible. For example, he heard what seemed to be a voice in his head saying “Today thou shall surely die…and so he prepared to die. But then repeatedly the Spirit brought a scripture to his mind—the 91st Psalm—‘with long life I will satisfy Him and show Him my salvation.’ Eventually he realized it was God speaking, and that the devil had spoken a lie into his mind. He hadn’t yet learned to distinguish between words of scripture from the Holy Spirit and Satan’s lies. Then he rebuked the devil and rose up to continue living” (pp. 92-95).
Guidance and recognizing the voice of God is a major issue for most people. Christians need to understand what the Bible says about this topic. As I read this book, I found much that challenged and perhaps corrected a mainstream view of the kind of walk with God where guidance is possible in the Spirit. For this Hagin is to be applauded and seriously studied. (4 stars.) ML Codman-Wilson, Ph.D. 5/4/2017

I think this is one of Hagins book that exemplifies him very well. I all the books I've read of his, he goes into his own story of his childhood healing and conversion(I suspect that the accounts in each book diverge a little, so it could be fun to collect the stories into one) this being no exception. Hagin is not a great theologian and not at all a scholar. He can measure other peoples capacity increases in percentages and is never specific about "a pastor I once knew" or "a woman once came to me..." or people in the stories making them all very little verifiable and even more so easy to exaggerate. I suspect Hagin not to know all the details, especially the psychological but also the exact hows when it's about what made people rich - his solution is usually a spiritual decision. What Hagin seems to know is the Bible, and that is the most I can say to his credit - but even then he seems to occasionally misuse scripture. In this book, the topic is the Spirit, and he uses a lot of the book to describe how things can go wrong and how they are right. This book includes visions and angels and all that what seems a bit strange and that I am reluctant to take his word on. How there are different voices and how there are the right ones. It's very ambiguous though when he, in the end, reduces it all back to conscience and intuition and tells us to be fast to follow them if we are born again. For me, it seems that both his followers and Christians in general, are too fast to follow. And Hagin, he is fast to write. And pretty fast to read. So, 3 stars may be a bit too high, but as a Hagin book, it will suffice.

A must-study for the believer.

A Must-Read for Every Believer Learning to Be Led by the Spirit

If you’re a believer who truly desires to be led by your Heavenly Father—but aren’t always sure how to discern His leading—this book by Kenneth E. Hagin is a game-changer.

In How You Can Be Led by the Spirit of God, Brother Hagin clearly outlines the different ways the Holy Spirit leads us, not just through theory, but with real-life examples drawn from his decades of ministry as a pastor, prophet, and teacher. His insights are both scriptural and practical, and his personal stories will stir your faith and open your eyes to how God may already be speaking to you.

I’ve read this book multiple times over the last 20 years, and every time, I’ve received something fresh. Whether you’re new in your walk with God or seasoned in ministry, this book will become a trusted guide as you begin to recognize the same manifestations of the Spirit in your own life.

You are a son—or daughter—of the Living God. Expect to be led by His Spirit. This book will help you understand exactly what that means and how to walk it out.

Highly recommended.

Great book by Kenneth Hagin. Older book. Copy write from 1986 but still relevant for today. The title of the book tells the overall story. It is about the Holy Spirit working inside the believer as what Kenneth Hagin calls, "The Inward Witness." Our spirit bears witness with the Spirit of God that we are sons of God. Learning to listen to that inward witness is what every believer needs to learn. That inward witness is connected to the Spirit of God & helps us in our times of need. Overall, this was a great little book. Very insightful and informative. If you want to learn more about how the Holy Spirit operates in the life of a believer by the inner leading, than this book is for you.

I think, this book should be read by every Christian

Personally I've grown, by reading this book I've been instructed on how the Lord lead. I have read tons. And thus far i will say this easier, indepth. I believd anyone who reads this will grow in inch taller (spiritually speaking). And if you don't thats fine at least its unscriptural. Don't get me wrong something i didn't agree. Or needed more enlightment but i believe other books have it or the Holy Spirit with make it clear to through his word once i seek him on it. Overall, the book has done its titled job.worth.reading and reread 20 times. I have 19 more to go😁.

The book answers some of the questions we ask about the leading of the Spirit. It compares the leading of the Old Testament to the New Testament and it shows that all who have received Christ are being led by the Spirit of God.

The book is quite instructive. Key lessons are the relevance of the inner voice, how to develop spiritual sensitivity through meditating and practice of the word of God also giving the Holy spirit first priority in decision making.
