[Audiobook] Resist the siren song of clean baseboards to become the mother you can only dream of being! I’m a new mother (one month and counting) and thought this book would be insightful. Wrong. Children, on whom motherhood is predicated, are mere bit players in this 6-hour tidiness manifesto. How do I know? Because this book is just as relevant to my pre-children life as it is to now. Believe it or not, non mothers also have houses and those houses also contain stuff - Tupperware and baseboards and all! Non mothers even have household budgets!!! I was really hoping for something more relevant to MOTHERHOOD, not the mere act of running a household where children happen to live.
A secular book about motherhood— I throughly enjoyed Emily’s suggestions to simplify your home life and focus on the children you’re raising. She had some wonderful tips and reminders.
Blegh. Just about minimizing what you are putting in your home or tidying. Not actually about motherhood, but pretends like it is bc only mothers run homes? Don't like author's tone
Had to read this on my phone which I never like and also was reading it during some challenging parenting moments which made it hard to appreciate the "enjoy every second" mentality. But probably something I need to practice more.
This was a good book with which to have started the year. Although there wasn't anything particularly groundbreaking Emily had to share, how she helped was in putting together all the snippets of tips and advice I’ve heard from here and there and have only a jumbled sense of, and presenting them in a way that helped me shape a better perspective of a simpler motherhood. I have a better idea now of how I would like to journey this year in terms of homemaking, parenting, and budgeting. I may re-read for refreshers in time to come.
I really enjoyed this as an alternative to Kon Mari minimalism in addition to practical routines in motherhood. It was helpful even with no kids in my house right now (but even more helpful since I'm preparing myself for that season of life, knowing how chaotic it can be). It wasn't judgemental or "I did it this way so you should to".
This book would pair well with Emily Oster's "Crib sheet" book series on parenting in terms of high-caliber, no bullshit, simple parenting approaches.
I wanted to love this book. In fact, I learned about it online and requested my local library order it. It took months to come in and I was sooo excited to have it in my hands but ended up skimming through a majority of it. A lot of it was pretty dry and seemed like a Marie Kondo knockoff. I was expecting more around mindful parenting and less about housework. Take what you need and leave the rest.
Stumbled upon this book by accident, had no clue it just released this week! I have read many books on simplifying, minimalism, etc…loved how this one tied it all in to motherhood. As a seasoned mom, I wish I had heard this at the beginning of my journey. It would have saved a lot of stress and turmoil. Highly recommend, especially for young moms, though all moms can surely benefit. Great read!
Light and simple book. More than Tips, this book is a reminder that “It’s okay, the motherhood can be overwhelming and keeping a house “Home” and Clean its quite a lot, and we need to understand that is pretty normal and make a feel changes to not overload ourselves”.
Just crossed with this book, and went on instagram to find the Author. 👉🏻 The.Simplified.Mom👈🏻
4 1/2 stars, actually. I was initially disappointed when the author said that she gets big urges to purge and organize because I’m a lower-energy, type-B person who tires easily. But the book is excellent for any personality type. How to declutter, how to simplify your schedule, how to live with less are lessons almost all of us can benefit from.
While nothing was super earth shattering in this book, I really enjoyed it overall. I always like reading things that encourage contentment and joy with the things you have and the life you live. I especially liked the chapters on spending and parenting. Overall, a good encouraging read with some solid advice and realistic tips.
I found this book extremely repetitive and I really didn’t learn anything new. It did give me a good reminder to slow down and get on the floor and play with my kids, but many of the other stuff felt like fluff and filler.
This book is exactly how it sounds, simple, but wonderful. There are some practical tips, but I found mostly I enjoyed that the authors approach to motherhood matched the efforts. I have been making over the past year.
I had high hopes for this book based on the title and description. Almost DNF. The advice was general and not specific to motherhood most of the time. It also contradicted itself often. Kind of a frustrating read…
Basically being a mom is hard and there's always going to be things to get done. But some of that is just societal pressure and you have to decide what's more important to you. Start small, every big change started with a small step.
This isn't a low rating, more a "yeah, it's not new that streamlining your physical space, digital space, and mental space fosters contentment, and you did a solid job cheering people on" rating.
I loved this book. It gave well thought out ideas on how to simplify your life in all aspects. It inspired me! Every person searching for more joy and contentment in their life should read!
A secular book on minimalism in motherhood. It had some good points, but nothing I hadn’t heard before. The book has beautiful pictures and is well organized.
This book is fantastic and so motivating! Emily is so real and offers very simple ways to simplify life and focus on what matters most. While there was no groundbreaking advice, the book was enjoyable and it reminds moms to slow down and let things go that don't matter and how to do so when the world pushes us to do the opposite.
