A green witch embracing life after divorce. A dream job in a secluded mansion. A millionaire boss with a secret that may kill.
Discovering that my husband was a lying, cheating, bigamist rat left me broke, homeless and in debt.
Divorced. Rejected. Returned goods!
But when I answered a mysterious ad to become the Head Gardener at a gothic mansion complete with its very own poison garden, life offered me a second chance.
The house comes complete with eccentric staff, a reclusive, broodingly handsome owner, and an assistant who may not be quite human.
If I were normal, I’d run a mile, but people have always told me I’m weird and, in this incredible place, I finally have a chance to bloom!
It’s the new start I need, and I’m determined to make it an adventure!
But there’s a hidden clause in my contract and the Poison Garden hides a shocking secret.
When a body turns up in the hemlock it becomes an adventure more dangerous than I could ever have imagined.
Life can be magic after fifty, but love can kill in the poison garden!
Really enjoyed reading this book, I was taken in from the very first page.
Follow Leofe's story of how her life she was living was the right one... when one day she finds out it's all been a horrible lie and her husband is infact not the man she thought he was along with her life!
When what I would describe as her ghostly fairy godmother turns up to help her understand the pain and hurt she is going through and how to fix it.... along comes the perfect job advertisement for her.. she applys and gets the job, the keeper of the poison garden... life suddenly changes for Leofe, not always in a good way either...
Will Leofe and Maximus (the owner of Blackwood Hall) end up together??? I think book two may help with this answer!
Very well written and the characters are just brilliant, I felt part of Blackwood after reading this book.
Book two has now been ordered and cannot wait for it to arrive.
JC Blake, I would definitely highly recommend this author 🙂
Poor Loefe has had a hard time lately. Her husband is a bigamist, she lost her job, she's homeless, and she's a witch and doesn't know it. I read this book in one sitting; I couldn't stop until I knew what Loefe was. JC Blake is one of the few authors I'll read in this genre. This author truly knows how to tell a story and makes you feel you're part of it. Would I recommend this author and the story? Heck yes I would!
I loved how this book was written in a lighthearted way, enjoyable & easy to read, but dealing with darker subjects as well. Leofe & Maximus’s growing attraction to one another is a slow burn, and I’m looking forward to the author releasing the next book in the series. Altogether, a delightful read!
I’m not really sure how I felt about this book. It’s confusing the main characters confused I was kind of confused nothing is ever told what is what until close to the end. So I’m not really sure how I feel about the book. Maybe I’ll read another one and see if I feel any different.
Easy, enjoyable read. First part was a bit slow but I couldn't put it down by half way through. Focus on lead female character (love having 50s represented and related life topics that happen then). Good comic moments along the way
