Humanity is lost.

Noxious gases blot out the sun, drowning the world in eternal night—vampyres hold dominion. Humans are livestock.

But not all humans heel without a fight.

Cypress is a vampyre killer. Born into slavery, he escaped to become a hunter for the human liberation movement known as the Veritas. But his worst fears are realized when, after a horrific raid of the Veritas camp, he is captured again. After putting all efforts toward escaping, he encounters the one thing he couldn’t have expected...a vampyre who challenges all his notions of what it means to be human.

Haven Bathory is beautiful, but more than that. His cherubic face hides dark secrets, a past that leaves him scarred behind his carefully crafted mask. Something about the young vampyre's damaged soul calls to Cy, and he’s powerless not to answer.

As betrayal runs rampant, Cy must choose where his allegiance lies. But can he ever truly trust a vampyre? And can he trust his own heart, when it’s so desperate to lead him astray?

Reader Warnings: This book contains content that could be triggering to some readers. Dark themes in this series include graphic depictions of violence, torture, human trafficking, sexual assault and depictions of rape/non-consensual sexual situations as well as child abuse and mentioned child sexual abuse.

Vampires for the win! Hells yeah! ✊🏻✊🏻👁❤️👁

Oh how I love vampires stories done right and how I loved this one. So dark, complex and full of shit happening all the time.

We are talking about vampires, so the author did them justice by creating such a toxic environment that I just, bless her heart. IT WAS PERRRFECT! *watches everything burn*.

The love was on fire, I'm still burning, the cross fucking, the political aspects and the evilness. Oh this was a fine book indeed and I can't wait for the next one.

IS GONNA BE SUCH A CLUSTERFUCK I'M READY!!!!! 😍😍😍

A good book about vampires! Stories with vampire characters have always fascinated me (apart from twilight 😅)
I liked the dystopic world presented in this story, it was interesting to follow the characters Haven and Cy.
In this story, cattle are humans, it serves as a lesson for how humans treat the animals they eat. Every time I reflect on it, the human being has ceased to be human a long time ago.

I expect the second book 🧛

"From the beginning, despite his callousness and his attempts to keep Cy at bay, Haven had reeled Cy in, beckoning him ever closer. It was inevitable, like the crashing of waves upon the shore."

Oh wow, Nyte was my first read from Hellie Heat and it won't be my last! I NEED to see how this series ends, she totally sucked me in and I loved every last, dark page.

Nyte is set in a dystopian world, where vampyres rule and humans have been forced into slavery, to be used and traded as 'meat sacks'. Cypress (Cy) is a vampyre hunter, born into slavery, who then escaped to fight amongst the Veritas - the human liberation movement - only to be caught and bound into slavery once again.

Which is where he meets Haven Bathory, a vampyre, but one hiding a human soul amongst the darkness of the world he 'lives' in.

This is a dark and violent and gruesome tale; it's also steamy as sin, as well as a slowwwww burn between our MCs - which I totally love. The world building is fabulous as are the characters, including the supporting cast.

Be warned, Nyte does end on a mild cliffhanger and I am totally hanging out for book 2 in the series!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND (but do note the author's TWs).

5 dark and steamy stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My quest for the vampire book of my dreams is still not over, it seems. Why is it so hard to get a fun vampire book with a good balance of dark themes, interspecies romantic tension, sexy blood-drinking and supensful action? Nyte had a lot of good ideas and potential, but it ended up being at once too much and not enough. And the whole "human slavery as an allegory to animal slaughter in the meat industry" is weird. Chill out, vampeta (get it?)

NOT ENOUGH

There is not enough suspense, and not enough romance.

So, this is a story about a dystopian world where vampires (or should I say, Vampyres) rule the world and have humans for slaves. Cypress, a vampire slayer part of some hidden resistance group, is taken captive by the enemy and become a slave for our other MC, Haven, who is the progeny of some powerful noble/leader of the Vamps.

The blurb depicts some sort of political intrigue, where Cypress has to learn who to trust in the palace. I wish this was the main focus of the story: it isn't. Every character he encounters is a stereotype with very transparent intentions. The villain (Haven's vampire sire) had no depth at all and was monologing while twirling his mustache every few chapter or so. There's a vampyre mole who is very easy to trust and appears just at the right moment. We are told again and again how Cypress is one of the greatest vampyre slayer out there, but what we're shown is a passive, naive captive. He doesn't plot his escape, he doesn't seem to be thinking ahead. Worst of all, HE TELLS ALL OF THE RESISTANCE'S SECRETS to pure strangers! Literally less than an hour after meeting them! He takes so many dumb decisions. It is a dark story, because of all of the torture (I will go back to this later). But the main plot, the main action, doesn't feel very dark, because there's no tension, you don't feel scared for Cypress's situation, there's not enough suspense.

The romance was actually not so bad. Though IMO, there wasn't enough scenes with the two of them connecting. But if the focus wasn't on the romance and it wasn't on the captive plot, what was it about? Well, I'm going to tell you...

TOO MUCH

This book focuses way too much on the animal rights allegory the author is trying to paint. TW for this next paragraph: torture of all kind, slavery.

The comparison goes like this: the human slaves can be either cattle (killed in a highly processed way in the slaughterhouse for food for vampyres... and other humans), breeding material (pregnant women all caged together and separated from their "veals" at birth, the "veals" are eaten of course), used for the skin trade (vampyres wear human skins to protect them from the UV rays, whatever), or pets (sex slaves).

Firstly, this just takes too much space when the main action and romance are so underdeveloped. It doesn't even move the story forward, because it's all stuff that's happening in the background to people we don't know. It's just description and description of gratuitous violence described in a very stiff way. It's not even about how our MCs react to the cruelty. Some of those scenes don't even serve the narrative IMO, and only exists to drive the allegory home. The comparison is at the same time heavy-handed and not so obvious, because a lot of the language (slaughterhouse, cattle) and a lot of the actual torture methods described have been used as elements of institutionalized genocides before.

Lastly, it's just weird to me to compare human slavery to animal rights and the meat industry. I'm vegetarian so it's not like I'm insensitive to those issues, but it still made me uncomfortable. A lot has been written on the controversial subject of comparing the holocaust and animal slaughter, for example; I'm not sure a vampire romance is the best medium to explore this kind of discourse.

I received a free copy of this book and am providing my honest review voluntarily.

*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book***

Nyte is one of the darkest story I have ever read, where there is not much hope, but in the pits of all that darkness was a slow-burn love story that couldn't have been more complicated. Haven, the reluctant kind-hearted vampire and Cypress, the vampire slayer have the odds stacked against them, their relationship is not only impossible, its forbidden, but due to many factors, including fate their connection is unexpected and impossible to ignore.

Their romance was my favorite aspect of this story. The world was a bit dark for my personal taste, but I can appreciate that due to the harsh, inhumane and dire circumstances made the love story provide a glimmer of hope, optimism and ultimate justice.

I will continue this trilogy due to my loyalty to Haven and Cy. Their story has just begun and I am eagerly anticipating what happens next.

Ahhh, the fantasy components are exquisite, the dark gritty atmosphere ditto. This was a wild, brutal ride. It’s not for the faint of heart!

Cy is a vampire slayer, and not just with a stake through the heart, oh no, he wants to torture them, drain them to the last drop, and then, just maybe then end it.
He ended many vampires already. The humans want to knock down the Dominion, get rid of all the vampires, and get their freedom back.

But even Cy isn’t indestructible, he got caught and prisoned, gifted as a slave to Lord Bathory.
Haven Bathory will hand Cy over to his Sire, Lord Thorne Bathory.
It’s a pity Haven is the most beautiful vampire ever. In all his beauty he looks almost fragile for a vampire, almost! Cy wants to exterminate him when the chance is there.
But Cy understands Haven is something else, he’s elegant, quiet and doesn’t want to drain humans, Cy is poking the beast. Stupid human, asking too many questions, presuming things, and making enemies.

In the world of vampires, exquisite blood is rare. Imagine what could happen when there’s an opportunity to taste!

Vampires are cruel, say the humans, humans are cruel, say the vampires. Be aware of some bloody brutal moments.
Where the vampires want to dominate the humans, the humans want to eradicate the vampires.

There are many unpredictable turns, you cannot trust anybody, everyone has an agenda,
Inside both teams are renegades, or not? That’s one aspect that is awesome about this story, who’s playing who, it’s unpredictable af!

Excellently written story, quite a violent ride, intense, whimsical, gritty, and oh so dark.
Between all the darkness there are some, you can’t call them ‘light moments’, maybe somewhat ‘less dark’ romantic moments. It’s quite a rollercoaster, full of action and heavy feelings.
The scenery was clearly described, it was a great experience to visualize the dark surroundings.
The hurtful moments were absolutely palpable *shudder*

Overall a super entertaining dark read, captivatingly written, it’s all hugely intriguing. It’s not over yet! I’m looking forward to the continuation!

It's been a while since I've read something as dark as Nyte.

Please heed the TW. Nyte is incredibly dark and in places, pretty grim reading. There's an allegory for animal rights in there that some might find upsetting.

A compulsive read, I found it hard to put down. Each of the mcs were very much grey morally, but it was impossible not to root for them.

Very much a slow burn in terms of feelings for each other but I liked that and it felt natural.

There's a mild cliffhanger and the whole of this book is setting up the impressive worldbuilding and larger plot.

I will absolutely be picking up the next book/s

Ummmmm so this was kind of fricken awesome. Like, everything I ever wanted from a vampire (vampyre) story? It’s not soft and sweet. It’s dangerous, and bloody and terrifying, and willing to make you uncomfortable.

I’m seriously excited to see where this goes in the next book. I need more from Haven and Cypress. Like, now.

This was enjoyable. I liked the world that the author created: a dystopian future where Vampyres rule the world after humans destroy it with pollution.
Human are treated like Cattle and horrible things are done to them.

I appreciated the thought that went into creating the world,but i also felt like the world had more potential to be built on. At times, the world-building seemed superficial, and I think it's because of how the author wanted to link modern animal rights to her world. I think it was a bit.... incomplimentary.

I think if the author focused on the political side of the plot as well as showed some more attention to the romance, this book would have been easily a 4 star read.

I wanted more relationship development.. and it didn't have to be them declaring love or anything like that... I just needed a stronger base for their attraction which I felt was a bit shaky.

Also, one of my biggest issues was Cy's super slayer persona, which didn't come off at all in the book imo. Most times, he came off as gullible especially with him spilling secrets to a couple of strangers hours upon meeting them. I think the author wanted to show his humane side, his trusting side... however it came across as naive. I wanted to see a more badass Cy someone powerful and intimidating, but that didn't happen unfortunately.

I quite liked Haven and think he has the potential to be a great character so I'm excited to see him in the coming books.

Note: Is it just me or did this give off major Captive Prince vibes? The way the MCs are described, the mood and feel of the plot, and even the progression of the romance. I couldn't help but draw similarities between the two and that also curbed my enjoyment of the book.

I really don’t want his review to just be me comparing this to captive prince, so first I’m gonna state my final thoughts. I flew through Nyte, I really like Heat’s writing as it’s very straight to the point and fast paced. Her world building, set in a dystopian vampire landscape, felt solid and very much gave me Van Helsing/Vampire Hunter D vibes. A dark and sometimes uncomfortable subject matter, decadence and debauchery. I fucks with it. Do look up TW's before picking it up!

And now I bring up captive prince—so Nyte is the most captive prince book I’ve ever read like LITERALLY. If you’re a fan, and you want to see an AU version of Damen and Laurent with similar plot beats here it is:

Cy is a vampire slayer and he haaates vampires so that’s his main grievance throughout the book (but we also get dual pov grievance from the vampire love interest towards humans). He’s captured as a human slave and given as a gift to a vampire lord.

“He’s not Thorne’s type.” Varney’s smile was unwavering. “No, perhaps not, but there’s a strength to him. He’ll prove…challenging. Isn’t that one of Thorne’s favorite pastimes? Breaking the strong, bringing them to heel?”

He’s big and combatant looking like Damen, and the vampires are weirded out cuz he’s not the usual demure human slave.

For the briefest moment, Cy saw something strange in those eyes. The vampyre’s expression softened slightly before going desperately hard. “A pet.” Haven said the word as though it tasted bitter on his tongue.

Like Laurent, Haven has a strange reaction to the sight of Cy, whom he’s never met but reminds him of someone from his past…

Thorne pinned Cy with a meaningful look. “I want you to keep an eye on him.” Cy balked. “Me?” Thorne nodded. “As his pet, you’ll sleep in his chambers, eat your meals and take your baths in his presence. So watch him. Make sure he’s eating enough, that he’s healthy. And while you’re at it, keep track of his activities. Who he’s with, what he’s doing. But more than that, I suspect he will open to you. Eventually, he will soften, perhaps reveal some of his secrets.”

This is literally what the Regent does with Damen!

So I did enjoy Nyte partly because there were those extremely direct nods to captive prince. BUT on the downside, because I was seeing all those similarities, it brought me out of the individual story Heat was trying to tell. As much as I’ve said this is the most captive prince book I’ve read, it still is different. There’s a political plot with the vampire dominion, which I felt could’ve gotten more page time. I also felt there were too many instances of Cy trying to psychoanalyse Haven and breakdown his walls, although I do understand why he does it, it just felt overdone.

But nevertheless, after the cliffhanger in this book I look forward to seeing where the next book will go :)

“Would that be so terrible?” Cy asked. “To open yourself to me?”
“Of course it would be!” Haven scoffed. “Everything you do is calculated, meant as a weapon of some sort. I know what you’re doing. You’d kill us all if you could.”
“All but you.”

Two new-to-me authors and two books about vampires in a row. This time set in a post-apocalyptic and darker world. Though, IMO this story wasn’t as dark as I thought it was going to be (or maybe at this point I'm a little desensitized, lol). So, if you don't have problems with the triggers but aren’t used to this kind of series I think you’d give it a try. Specially, because these darker situations (like dub-con, no-con) aren't between the MCs, and I know this could be a deal-breaker for some readers.

description

With only one drawing in the author’s ig I already knew I was going to love Haven. After this first book I can confirm it. He must be protected, even from himself, and what better person to do that than Cy. I mean I never thought he would have the patience to deal with Haven’s stubbornness. Cy’s way of thinking really surprised me. I can’t wait to see how their relationship evolves through this series. The slow burn is going to kill me, lol.

description

Ending with a mild cliffhanger I can’t wait for the next installment to know what happens next. I just need more of Cy and Haven.

This novel attracted me by the cover and the theme. I love things about vampires.

The novel is dark because of the events that take place. It's not for the faint-hearted at times.

The romance that develops between the two protagonists is a slow burn. It takes time for them to settle down. Given the passive between the two species this is really normal. They couldn't be struck by lightning.

I have a soft spot for Cy even if sometimes his reactions are really steeped in naivety. Haven meanwhile is more tortured but nonetheless fascinating.

The cliffhanger at the end left us in an unbearable state of expectation as to the sequel.

A good read that I will continue with great pleasure.

My mind is BLOWN by this book!!! Heed every single trigger warning, it's so dark and twisted (horrifically descriptive rape, abuse and violence)... But it was everything I could have asked for. Dangerous and vicious vampyres, the dashing hero willing to sacrifice himself for the cause, as well as some surprisingly hard to hate - have to love - vampyres. Cy has lost everything more times than anyone should, has killed countless vampyres, but is unwillingly drawn to Haven. Haven is just as broken and lonely as Cy. He's been mistreated, tricked, lied to and used. People are treated no better then the cattle they are being called. Somehow our MCs have found each other, and formed a bond despite being on opposing sides of the war. The worldbuilding done by Hellie is just phenomenal. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series!

This book was simply marvelous! After the Fallocaust series, I was in a really bad book slump. No book could hold my attention long enough until this one! I devoured the book in three or four days! Not only that, but all the different emotions I felt through certain heartbreaking situations brought me on the edge of my seat. The pages flew by and before I knew it, I was already at the ending. Not only that, the book also conveys an important message about how we humans interact with livestock/animals. I was here mainly for the torture and all the taboo subjects. I need more dark books in my life like this one. After all, vampires are my favorite paranormal creatures!

Haven has become my favorite character! There are so many things I recognize in him that only drew me closer to the characters. There were plots and the storyline was one that sucked you in. The ending makes me freak the fuck out and want more! I can't wait to start the next book!

Hellie is a wonderful author and such a kind person too! I will definitely recommend this book to everyone! Especially if you like dark storylines and subjects that give you the creeps.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

Nyte is the first book in Hellie Heat’s Vampyre Dominion series. It’s set in a dystopian future where, as a consequence of humans destroying the environment, vampyres have risen to power. This reimagined future is, according to the author, an allegory for how modern humans treat animals. The book mostly showcases humans as pets, but there are mentions of other roles humans occupy (food for vampyres, food for other humans, battle-to-the-death entertainment, etc.) and some of that occasionally comes with gory scenes. But this is background horror to the histories our MCs bring to the story.

Overall, this was an interesting and disturbingly dark take on a dystopian vampire drama.

Vampires are my favorite and pairing a vampire with a vampire hunter is my catnip. Nyte did not disappoint. I loved this book.

I've read Hellie Heat's previous trilogy, so I know she's a great world builder, but I was still blown away by the level of detail in Nyte. This new dystopian world she's created is addicting, and so are Cypress and Haven. I'm such a sucker for a pretty face with a sad backstory.

Can't wait for the rest of the series! Mind the trigger warnings, but the author says the series will end on an HEA and I am here for it!! 10/10 do recommend

OMG, this book, people!! 😮 SO GOOD. I went into it completely blind but even if you won't, every single page will still surprise you, no amount of spoilers and gorgeous art will prepare you for what's inside! Who even needs sleep, I DEVOURED it in one day.

🖤 Nyte by Hellie Heat is DARK. And not because of the post apocalyptic world where the sun no longer rises and all the animals and plants are gone. No, this part was actually beautiful. Beautiful in a way where you're simultaneously horrified but also can't look away. Hellie does a great job creating the atmosphere without too many lengthy descriptions and pages of lore that distract from the plot. You explore it organically, just following the MCs, observing, quietly praying this will never happen in real life.

Nooo, the actual darkness is in the way this new society, ruled by vampyres, is organised. In how far the humans would go to preserve their existence. In how little those with all the power care. In the way everyone treats not only their enemies or those they see as a lower class but also their own families. And THIS is what makes this book so terrifying. It's easy to dismiss the half-dead sun or the cruel creatures. It's not, however, as easy to dismiss all the traits and realistic behaviour that might be hyperbolised but is still pretty much recognisable.

♥️ But don't you worry, among all the darkness, there will be two pure lights - beautiful but oh, so broken vampyre Haven and his strong and unbreakable human pet Cy. Cypress was born into slavery but was rescued and joined the Veritas - humans, trying to liberate other humans. Until he's captured again while protecting his friends, and is gifted to Haven, who, despite his angelic appearance and name, went through hell. Hell that is far from being in the past for him.

Their story spans three books, so get ready for the pure torture of this slow burn, where everything is against their absolutely forbidden love. The moment they both realise the other one is not at all what they thought about their kind? Oh, the angst! The passion! My heart simply can't cope. Honestly, how am I supposed to just... WAIT for the next two books now?!

HOLY SH*TBALLS!!!
This book is absolutely insane! It’s dark, twisty, sexy, painful, emotional…it’s EVERYTHING!!!
In a world where vampyres rule, abuse, and enslave humans, Cypress is a vampyre slayer working with Veritas, a group of humans dedicated to ridding the world of vampyres and giving humans their rights back. After surviving captivity in his youth, Cypress hates vampyres and all they stand for. But when a mission goes horribly wrong, Cy sacrifices himself to let his friends go, and finds himself back in the hands of the vampyres.
After spending weeks imprisoned, Cy is given as a pet; a gift to a noble vampyre family. And so he meets Haven…ice cold, aloof, and devastatingly beautiful. Although Cy is supposed to be a gift to Haven’s sire, he is thrust back at Haven, who is reluctant to take him.
Haven is annoyed and exhausted by Cy, and it is well known that he has a hatred for humans. The more we learn, the more complicated Haven’s feelings and actions are.
There is a war brewing between the vampyres and the humans, and Cy and Haven find themselves right in the middle of it. This plot is incredibly exciting, and I couldn’t put this down because I had to know what happened next!!
This book was absolutely fantastic and I CANNOT WAIT till the next one!!!

Nyte, by Hellie Heat was my most anticipated read this month for hitting the top of my favourites list! As predicted, Nyte was phenomenal!

As a slow burn enthusiast, the set up and gradual build to this story played to the beat of my drum. Because this is a true slow burn, And it was fabulous...

Cypress, an affiliate of a liberation movement, known as the Veritas. Cypress is captured during a raid to free innocents and his people, from the clutches of the Vampyres and the abhorrent acts of inhumanity they leave in their wake...

There are so many key players in this book and webs of deceit. As Cypress is sold off at auction and brought before the Dominion. He meets the Vampyres that lurk in the shadows and cold walls of New Avalon. Everything is at stake! Especially after meeting the ethereal beauty that is, Haven! These two seriously have my heart all tied up! My longing for their HEA is unlike any other.

Oh my god, this book is fucking amazing. Amazing, amazing and amazing. Vampires, blood, violence, sex, torture, human slaves and that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what you get in this book. It’s dark, it’s gothic, it’s hot and it’s crazy as hell. I loved it soooo much.

Haven our stunning vampire and Cypress our vampire slaying human. Both have had it awful in this twisted world that Hellie has created. What a world it is. I could taste the dark and barbaric filled world and it was deliciously devine.

These guys have so much chemistry and I loved the tentative build up developing feelings for eachother, it’s not an easy road, there isn’t a lot of romance surrounding this.

I just can’t get over the how fantastically disturbing this world is. I’m even more pissed now that I have to wait for the next book as need it in my life ASAP.

Any lovers of dark worlds and vampires will gobble this up. It’s so fucking good. I stayed up half the night to read it and I’m desperate for more. Brilliant.

Sadly this book was not for me. I dont have a problem and am not easily triggered by most violence in books, but in this case it felt like the excessive use of different triggering situations served no purpose for the plot and was just there to be shocking.
Another reviewer said it was supposed to be an allegory to the meat industry and i can definitely see that, but why write a vampire romance novel to talk about problems with the meat industry?
All in all this book left me pretty disgusted and without any sympathy for the characters.
Cy especially just seemed really stupid and i have no clue why he wasn’t killed earlier.
He tells secrets of the human oragnisation to a stranger and a vampire without any direct proof that she is on his side, acts irrationally and when a fight scene finally comes he doesn’t even win despite being a “badass vampire slayer”
Sorry, this was just not for me

almost DNF'd this. lazy and inconsistent worldbuilding, flimsy plot with even flimsier character motivation, passive characters interspersed with super-villains and, to top it all off, a whole lot of repetitive dialogue, the odd clumsy action scene, and torture porn.

the only thing i could appreciate was the author's attempt at drawing attention to animal cruelty, which is a cause i highly support and which makes me even sadder that i can't rate this book any higher. will have to steer clear of any future parts.

~~~
El gran problema con muchos romances urbanos es que el mundo de fantasía o ciencia ficción que nos presentan es un mero escenario para la historia de amor. ¿Que este es un mundo postapocalíptico donde las plantas y animales están extintos? No son necesarias las explicaciones de exactamente cómo los humanos destruyeron su mundo, ni qué comen los humanos supervivientes, el balance ecológico no importa mientras los protagonistas puedan hacerse ojitos y caer rendidamente enamorados. El otro gran problema de los romances urbanos es que apenas verse, los personajes empiezan a salivar el uno por el otro. ¿Y qué si acabo de conocerte? ¿Y qué si eres parte de una raza de criaturas que he dedicado mi vida a aniquilar? Si estás bueno, es obligatorio devorarte con la mirada y obsesionarse con llevarte a la cama. Apenas 14% del libro, en su primer encuentro y Cy ya se está imaginando a Haven desnudo y a su merced... ¿Qué pasó con su odio por los vampiros?
Después de rodar los ojos incontables veces, decidí pasar por alto todo lo cliché y ridículo y me enfoqué en los personajes. ¿Es Cy un buen cazador de vampiros? Pues no, la verdad es que su única ventaja es la sangre de vampiros, que le otorga fuerza y velocidad... porque sin ella está a merced de cualquiera. Sobradas quedan sus exclamaciones de "Si tuviera un arma, acabaría contigo", porque ni armado puede contra ellos, parece que todos sus triunfos contra los vampiros se debieron a que cazaban en grupo (o sea, eran montoneros contra un solo vampiro). ¿Es un buen soldado? Pueees no. Apenas tiene trato con otros humanos y ya les está soltando los secretos mejor guardados de su organización, decidió sacrificarse por su amigo, pero luego pone en riesgo la organización completa (con su amigo incluido) por un niño vampiro. Mmm, como que no es muy congruente. ¿Es un buen amante? Pueees no sabemos, porque apenas se dan unos arrumacos cuando el otro andaba urgido por una droga que le administraron. Por Haven pude sentir más empatía porque su historia es tan tremendamente trágica que es obligatorio sentir penita y querer que consiga una vida mejor.
El romance deja bastante que desear, porque en principio no se percibe la atracción. Cypress nos narra sobre lo hermoso que es Haven y Haven ve en Cy a alguien de su pasado... así que la química es nula. Eran las únicas personas decentes y se ven obligados a convivir, y zas, amor. Afortunadamente es solo el inicio de una trilogía o saga, así que le queda tiempo a la autora para abordar mejor todo el asunto.
La trama nos habla de la lucha entre humanos y vampiros, pero es algo secundario, hasta que llega el clímax de la historia y es lo más relevante y de donde surgen los conflictos para nuestros protagonistas; pero no va más allá, todo se resolverá en próximos libros, espero.
Los personajes secundarios son muy acartonados. El creador muy maloso, la sirvienta fiel, la chica cautiva con final trágico.
En general, una lectura entretenida pero pudo haber sido mejor.
¿Qué Disfruté?
Se lee rápido
¿Qué Prefiero Olvidar?
Al principio del libro se nos recalca que las víctimas sienten un gran placer cuando los vampiros se alimentan de ellos, pero luego vemos un par de escenas de Haven y Wren donde se revuelven por "el dolor"... ¿entonces en qué quedamos? ¿Duele o es placentero? Parece que la autora quiso que solo fuera placentero cuando tocaba escena sexi y fuera doloroso cuando tocaba escena dramática.
Nyte is the first book in the Vampyre Dominion series and is also the first book I have read from Hellie Heat.
Due to catastrophic events that led to the rise of vamphyres and the decline of human society, the dystopian world the story was set in was ruled by these blood thirsty creatures. The story focused on Cypress a vampire hunter who was former slave and was part of the human liberation movement Veritas. Due to circumstance, he found himself bound into slavery once again.
During his captivity he met Haven Bathory a beautiful vamphyre with a kind-heart. As an impending war between vamphyres and humans loomed in the horizon, the two of them grew closer and fell in love. Caught in the middle of it all, the pair would need to find a way to survive the incoming storm.
This book had so much potential and has a lot of awesome ideas. I was quite intrigued on the general plot of the book but was a bit disappointed in the execution. I love some good political intrigue and was sad that there wasn't a lot in this installment.
I love forbidden romance and a vampire hunter falling in love with a creature he hunts falls in that category. It was one of the more interesting aspect of the story and there wasn't enough of that in this book. Cy needed more moments as well that could've shown how awesome he was because these were not it. I liked Haven a good deal and hopefully his character would get further development along with Cy.
The world building overall was decent and the atmosphere is grim and dark. There's a good deal of violence, torture and killing here. Just with the prologue itself what with it opening with a torture scene. So if you're squeamish and any excessive violence and gore isn't your thing then this book wouldn't be for you.
Overall the book was decent and still entertaining. I was intrigued by how this series would turn out in the end.
I'm giving it 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.
I received an ARC of this book and I have chosen to publish my fair and honest review.
Probably should have read the trigger warnings before I read this but I got distracted by pretty book teasers so I was excited going into this. Unfortunately non-con is a hard pass for me , and it was just one of the many ways this book didn't work for me. Some other ways being that I could not get myself invested in the actual storyline because while I enjoyed Havens character, I didn't care for Cy and never found myself rooting for them as a pairing.
*I was kindly given an ARC by the author for an honest review*
I have only one word for this book: Amazing!!
I have to be really honest here and say that I haven't read this kind of vampire stories before. I was a bit reluctant to start but there was no need, it was absolutely amazing. There was nothing I didn't like about this book.
Cypher is a human, living in hiding after the Vampyres took over the world. They have enslaved the humans, using them as pets, abusing and violating them, having them fight each other to the death or just plain killing them. Cy has been kept as a pet before but escaped and joined a group who calls themselves The Veritas. He became a vampire slayer doing everything he can to rid the world of them by slowly torturing and killing them. But one day he's captured again when he sacrifices himself to save his best friend.
He gets sold to be the new pet of Lord Thorne, but since he isn't present at the time of the sale, it's Thorne's progyne Haven who gets to escort Cy to his new master.
Haven is a 'young' vampyre, turned by Thorne who became his Sire. He wants nothing to do with humans, loathes them and deems Cy beneath him, even though he feels some sort of attraction to him. He doesn't want to be a vampyre either and only wants to die. When Thorn wants to get rid of Cy, Haven steps in and takes Cy as his pet.
Both men have horrible pasts, each trying to survive in the best way they can and they forge a careful bond. Neither of them wants to admit they can't see the other hurt but still do everthing to protect one another.
I loved every bit of this book, it was dark, there was a lot of on page violence, even torture but also a lot of tender moments between the two MC's. The secondary characters were scary, mean but it was amazing. There was nothing in this book that I can think of I didn't like, I started reading yesterday afternoon and just couldn't put it down. I devoured each page and if there is one negative thing I can say about it, it's that it ended far too soon and whats worse, if ended on a cliffhanger!!!! So mean!!!
I highly recommend this book but I advise to read the trigger warnings the author is giving.
I can't wait for the next book in the series, Ms Heat please hurry!!!😁
The way I felt about this one was all me – I just didn’t connect with it. At all.
Thorn Bathory was a parody of a villain, practically twirling his moustache as he monologued. I couldn’t believe that Cypress was this completely amazing vampyre slayer, a trusted member of Veritas, when he was literally in the Pet’s living quarters for one night and he was spilling ALL of the resistance’s secrets. Completely voluntarily, no interrogation – just because he felt that the person(s) he speaking to were nice.
The link between Cypress and Haven felt tenuous. Haven seemed attached to Cypress because of how much he resembled someone from his past. He didn’t seem to make much effort to get to know the real Cypress which is why I couldn’t understand where the love came from. And Cypress’s feelings towards Haven – where did they come from? I mean, okay, Haven was pretty, but so what? And his desire to restrain himself from drinking surely made him more of a danger? Which seemed to go against everything he claimed to want.
The world building was interesting, as was the background information regarding the HU. But the whole situation between Gaius and Thorne felt contrived, and Tepes came across as such a caricature. And what exactly were Sirene’s motivations?
Like I said, the way I felt about this book was all on me. I would imagine it would really appeal to people who are looking for a whole new world of vampyre’s and fighting, but it just left me cold.
I received an ARC from GRR.
Je n'ai pas vraimentl'habitude de lire de la romance paranormale / fantastique en MM mais en voyant la couverture de Nyte, j'ai décidé de tenté, complètement à l'aveugle car je connaissais absolument pas l'autrice. Cette lecture n'a pas été de tout repos mais j'ai apprécié ce changement radical d'ambiance qui tranche avec mes lectures habituelles
Je ne reviendrai pas sur l'intrigue car le résumé remplit parfaitement son office... disons juste que nous plongeons dans un univers très sombre où les humains devenus les esclaves des vampires subissent de nombreux tourments et tortures. C'est oppressant, parfois terrifiant... Le parallèle qui est fait pas l'autrice entre le sort des humains et celui infligé aux animaux est aussi assez perturbant pour ne pas dire dérangeant.
Cy, l'humain chasseur de vampires, va tomber entre les mains de ses pires ennemis et devient le captif et "l'animal de compagnie" de Lord Haven Bathory. J'ai beaucoup aimé la relation entre ces deux êtres qui devraient se détester mais qui, peu à peu, vont parvenir à forger un lien sans tomber dans le manichéisme. Alors clairement, cette romance peut-être qualifiée de slow burn mais vu le passé des héros et leur condition, il n'aurait pu en être autrement, c'est ce qui fait aussi l'attrait de leur histoire et la rend crédible même si c'est parfois frustrant. L'alchimie et l'attraction sont là et on sent tout le potentiel de cela laisse présager.
J'ai évidemment apprécié Cy qui est un personnage attachant, un battant mais j'avoue que parfois j'ai eu du mal à comprendre certains de ces agissements, sa naïveté est parfois déconcertante... Le mystérieux Haven est quant à lui fascinant par son ambivalence, derrière sa beauté se cache un esprit en proie à de terribles tourments. Vraiment voilà un personnage qui ne laisse pas indifférent, une énigme que lon veut décrypter et qui ne peut que susciter l'intérêt !
La fin de ce roman nous laisse la furieuse envie de savoir ce qui attend les personnages dans le prochain tome !
