This freaking 100 page novella was damn good. The tension, the chemistry, the hunt, the spice, the jealousy, and the adorable friendship between Adrian and Samantha. It was perfect mix of sweetness and hotness. I liked the primal dominant play and the chase and hunt scenes. And there was always this sexual tension and teasing going on between them that it made even more interesting.
I loved the bestfriend to lovers trope a lot and how it didn't felt like insta love between Sam and Adrian because there was always this attraction between them but they just ignored it until they couldn't. They both were afraid of losing their friendships. They always loved each other and being childhood besties they always comforted and understood each other like no other could. They are made for each other! I love their friendship sm 💗
I actually enjoyed it. The plot, the characters, and the writing was amazing too. I liked how LJ actually managed to show us the childhood of Adrian and Sam and how they were so adorable. I actually felt connected to the characters which never when I'm reading novellas. Some scenes were so sweet and cute but some felt a little cringe to me. But I liked that jealousy scene the most 🤭 they just always hits different you know!?
The shower scene and the hunt scene in the forest!!! Oh. Lord. Those were really hot and Adrian is just 🔥😩

She is sweet, kind and caring but she loves the chase 👀 and god they could be together for years if just they let it all out. I liked her character. Her character was so similar to Adrian yet so opposite but I liked how she atleast got the courage to finally ask him about their relationship.

the smut was hot, it had potential to be great but we were delivered very little. this had too much inner monologues and useless conversations for a erotic novella.

With the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I really thought I would love this but I only found it...ok? The start was actually very sweet with the childhood bestfriends who've been crushing on each others for years but never found the courage to cross the line, in fear of ruining the friendship. I thought their complicity and crush was quickly and well established, giving a good base to their relationship from the get go. I felt the tension between them very early on which was great. But theeennn...came the primal play, which I really wasn't fond of due to the execution and lack of realism. I would be lying if I said I didn't cringe.
I'm honestly all for primal play, especially in omegaverse, alienverse or paranormal eroticas because the characters aren't fully humans, they have a second nature, more basic and we don't necessarily expect realism from them. When it's two humans pretending they are beast and prey and act like animals, I just can't help but cringe. Of course, the kink should be raw and exciting, but I just feel like it wasn't well portrayed here. The hero talking about his beast (and being serious about it), the growling, the roaring...I just didn't find it sexy. It felt more like playing animal rather than simply enjoying and acting on primal urges..know what I mean? And most of all, the fact that he could smell and pretty much track the heroine was utterly ridiculous. At that point, I kind of wanted him to reveal he was a shifter or something.
Anyway, Adrian seemed like a very charming and playful guy who liked to tease Samantha. As they grew up, he only ever showed her his caring, protective and gentle side, because he didn't want to scare her with his ''beast''. Which was one of the reasons why he never really crossed the line to become more than friends with her. Seeing that she was dating nice and serious guys, he didn't think he was fitting her standards.
As for Samantha, I mostly liked her sweet personality. I thought her crush on Adrian was really cute. I was just a bit bothered by her cowardness at times. Overall though, I thought she paired well with Adrian.
They obviously had a lot of fondness for each other and I had a really good feeling about them at the beginning but yeah, I wasn't much into the primal play thing. I didn't feel like it had its place in this plot. If the guy has darker cravings, why not just BDSM or something? I don't know, it didn't do the kink justice in my opinion, too much on the unrealistic side of it.

Now this, I like.
I like this one a bit more than the Christmas book and it is a lot better too. Better plot! Better characters! Better sex scenes! Better writing! Well, not really, the writing is basically the same but it felt a bit less cringe than the Christmas book. There were some moments that I found cringe but it was bearable.
I actually enjoy this one more than I expected. Both characters felt had much more chemistry and the sexual tension between them felt real, to put it simply, it existed. I actually like that they have a very clear and non-blurry history between them, both are best friends since kindergarten and were lowkey in love with each other until they couldn't hold it any longer. Although I didn't quite imagine the plot resolved in that direction (mainly because the synopsis kinda suggested it would resolve the way I imagine, not sure if I caught it the wrong way or the synopsis was indeed misleading), it wasn't a huge letdown.
I also like that once the cat is out of the bag, the author gave them a chance to resolve the... miscommunication...? misunderstanding...?--I'm not sure what to call it--the huge elephant between them. It really gave a huge impact on the plot so I felt it was so much better than the previous book I read.
Although, I don't like the fmc's twin sister, Willow. I know the author was trying so hard to give her that sisterly "I care about you a lot and I want you to be happy" but the execution went wrong. It came across as a nosy twin sister that doesn't know when to help and when to back the fuck off, it was too bad that she came across as an annoying family member rather than a loving and sweet sister.
I was going to give this 4 stars but I changed my mind when Adrian tried to explain BDSM and primal sex shit to Samantha💀 it was sooooo cringe and fuck, I cringed so hard at that scene while laughing. So there you go, 3 stars :)
But I enjoyed it. I think it fits anyone who wants to get out of a reading slump, it was a short read. I kinda feel sad it is a novella, I see a huge potential if it's a 300 pages book but that's just wishful thinking.
