In a brutal world where everyone is born an Alpha, beta, or omega, is it possible to be one birth nature but still lead a full life while pretending to be another?Tobias Hanson is a cop, specifically a homicide detective. The cases he investigates? Murdered omegas. Except in Tobias’ world, an Alpha killing his omega is perfectly acceptable. After all, omegas are nothing more than easily replaced, purchased property. With his family long since gone, Tobias spends his days with dead omegas, and his nights in self-imposed solitary loneliness.Abundio Chale is an enigma. Like most alphas, he is highly educated, attractive, and possesses the same self-confidence all of his birth nature do. Yet, despite his schooling and his alpha privilege, he hops from job to job as if searching for something. And, like Tobias, he spends most evenings alone, longing for the one thing he doesn’t have.A chance meeting puts both men on a path neither saw coming. Lives will change, love will be found, and both men may get exactly what they want. But, like most things, there will be a price to pay. Will it be worth it? GAY, EROTICA, DEGRADATION, HUMILIATION, SPH, SEXUAL SLAVERY, BRUTAL, DUB-CON, NON-CON

I just picked this one today and I just can't right now... I mean, has anyone from latinamerica read this? Mi gente read this shit:
🤔🤔 Maybe I should explain first: There are alphas, Betas and omegas and omegas are treated like women were treated in golden age, like shit. Our main guy it's a cop and he sees the injustices done by alphas AND Betas to omegas, but he hates Alphas because he is passive aggressive as shit and he doesn't think that it takes two to tango (he is a beta btw). He meets a decent alpha who is Latino, *saborsss* and everything was going decent and then I read this shit:
"I’ll concede the cop part, not the lazy, though. Anyhow”—Abundio mirrored Tobias’ poke to the ribs—“my heritage is South American. I came to New California when I was six. The family I was placed with was…well, let’s just say they were nothing like yours. The alpha was a good enough man, I suppose, but by the time I was twelve, three omegas had come and gone. It was a rather unstable environment, and I’m someone who appreciates stability, always have.” He shrugged. “So I left.”
The Latin dude said that and I was like whut? How? We don't sound like that? I mean I knew a guy who learned to speak English with Harry Potter so he spoke with a British accent (and yes, I forced him to tell me Harry Potter lines✊🏻✊🏻) but he wasn't proper in his speech like this. I'm really confused at this point... But if my friend talked like Daniel Radcliffe I thought ok, is possible, weird but possible. Then the cop started talking like this:
“Nah, not that interesting; I’m lazy, and I’m a cop…people tend to find ‘reductive diction’ far less threatening. Anywho, we’re talkin’ ’bout you.”
What kind of logic is that? He doesn't think in that manner so what the hell? Total surprise for me and nop, no no no no.
So at at this point I think think manners of speech are a thing here. Oh, and I just went back to check on it and read this:
“I tested out of high school while in boarding school, graduated college with my bachelors at eighteen, and moved out on my own—with the financial assistance of Alpha Services, of course—then earned my masters by twenty, and my PhD by twenty-eight".
So this guy who went to another country at SIX YEARS OLD, who was placed at a family home that was toxic, who lived in the system, ended up as a genius without any side effects about those experiences? This doesn't read right to me in any sense, maybe later is explained but it's just too weird for me at the moment
No can do for now. Maybe later. 🤷🏻♀️
... and who the fuck calls his kid Abundio? He wouldn't have survived in school. Sad, but true. 🥲🤷🏻♀️
JL Tonlet really knows how to challenge his readers in the best sort of way. I loved Grif and Wes in the ‘Tease and Denial ‘series, even if there’s no doubt it wasn’t an easy read for me. But then, tbh, I don’t think it’s meant to be, either!
This book was no different. Expect your morals to be challenged. Expect the lines between ‘wrong’ and ‘right’ to be blurred and be surprised how the author makes it alright to accept that. Expect to feel mortified, shocked and dismayed, while wholly intrigued and captivated. Most of all: please, read the triggers the author has kindly provided and understand that they’re very much on point.
The author creates a world (a country, to be exact) where alphas, betas and omegas have been genetically modified to enhance their ‘birth nature’. On the one end, alphas are strong, dominant, sadistic and brutal, while at the other, omegas are slaves, nothing more than property to buy or dispose of, who are expected to submit to their alpha’s every whim.
‘Social justice’ here means that alphas have everything, can do everything and dominate everything, while “every single right has been stripped from omegas”, even the most basic ones. And that’s where some pretty dark themes are coming in.
In essence, this is Toby’s story and how he learns to be true to his birth nature. A thing that doesn’t come easy to him (which is putting it VERY mildly) because it means giving up being the man he’s been for 36 years, together with his pride and independence. Or that’s how he sees it. I can’t really say much more because it would be too ‘spoilery’! All I CAN say is “Fucking alphas!” 😁
Abundio is exactly the man to help Tobias along the way. I loved him for his patience and willingness to (mostly) keep his inner, ‘inbuilt’ alpha under control and be what Tobias needs, sometimes even before he knows what that is. Saying that, I would lie if I said I didn’t find some aspects of their early relationship very difficult to stomach, but again, I guess that’s exactly what was intended.
This book is completely relationship based. It is about how Tobias and Abundio learn to be together, how they make it work and how they learn to love each other exactly the way they are. And that part is truly awesome!
Similar to ‘Tease and Denial’, JL Tonlet does a fantastic job at making the reader stop and think about topics like submission, consent, being true to yourself and getting the space to do that.
And yes, I did have some minor niggles for ex , but they are indeed minor.
Thought provoking, morally challenging, dark in some parts, (but please remember this is an AU!) but another amazing book by this author. (112 highlights??? OMG!)
GAH I can't decide if I'm more excited about the upcoming release of this book, or the SEVEN manuscripts that JLT mentions in this post... https://diversereader.blogspot.com/20...
This is a darker a/b/o story that is different from any I've read before, that stays very focused on the relationship-building between Tobias and Abundio.
I quickly became invested in Toby and what he suddenly finds himself going through - something he neither expected nor was he prepared for. I had a love-hate thing going with Abundio. There were times where his nature took over and his playing his alpha role made me dislike him immensely, even though I knew how much he cared for Toby. It was just part of who he was born to be - even though he went above and beyond to generally suppress it. Vague - but I'm not going to spoil things, other than to say in the end I was very happy for the men and the life they were living.
I enjoyed the story, but did have a few things that I wanted explained a bit better or maybe not left so vague regarding what Tobias was going through both mentally and physically, and was left with a few questions in the end. If you're looking for a different type of omegaverse, don't mind humiliation kink and a bit of roughness between the MCs, JLT has built an interesting world in this story.
"Note: Not well-suited for readers who appreciate content warnings." <<<--- This irritates me A LOT!!! That was HIGHLY passive aggressive!! There's nothing wrong with "appreciating content warnings"; I mean, imagine the audacity of wanting to know what's IN your meal, before ordering it >:-o *smirks*!!! So yeah, you better fucking bet I want to know if there's anything that'll put me off, anger, or repulse me as a reader, before spending hard earned money on said book!!! Now, it's the author's absolute prerogative to NOT include a content warning, sure, 100%! Just like it's MY prerogative not to read a book I think might NEED one! No problem there! BUT, if you don't want to include content warnings, that's perfectly fine don't include one, but why go out of your way to declare - almost smugly - that you won't include one, or that this might not be a book for those who appreciate the warning [because that's what content WARNINGS are]?!!? Would the author rather get a horrible rating because the reader stumbled into content they were not wanting to read about?!! No worries! To include such a stupid disclaimer makes a mockery of what a lot DO appreciate and again, it's passive aggressive, and that in and of itself annoys the hell out of me!! Is this meant to [subliminally] antagonize?!? For someone who wants readers to purchase his book, this definitely encourages some readers to do the exact opposite, merely on principle! Because all I'm thinking is: OH, it's like THAT is it *all while raising eyebrows*?!!? No worries!!!
For the record, if the "argument" is: Well, the sentence divulges that there things in this book that might require a warning [and let's face it, it could be anything] but the author didn't want to say what they are! It's like a 2nd grader saying "I have a secret but I cannot tell you"! No problem, no one gives a shit (I definitely don't), but to go out of your way to point it out just makes the experience obnoxious!!
OH and authors who write rude and passively aggressive disclaimers are NOT welcome to offer commentary or insight in the comments below!! Yup, I went there!!
Note: I've known JLT to be a super super SUPER SWEET guy, so this really surprises me! I MIGHT send a private message to find out more about what he MEANT and what sorts of triggers his book might be hiding, because let's face it, this sentence indicates there ARE triggers! I might also decide against DMing him completely! MEH, we shall see!! For what it's worth, the blurb does sound great ... though for me, it might just go unrealized!! Like I said, we shall see!!

This was my first omega universe novel, but well, It's JLT's work, so... I went in ball's deep as ever.
Veru much new to all of this, but I've got to admit, I love the whole worldbuilding around the the alpha's and omegas, and Joseph does his usuall of getting that gorgeous harder plot and emotion going from the get-go that just draws you in. I think I'm kind of a convert to the omegaverse.
Now all I need is a sequel to Brother's LaFon, and I'm a happy bleeder, erm... reader.
I have enjoyed every book Joseph Lance Tonlet has published (that I know of) and this book, like the others, is amazing.
The characters grabbed me from the start - I was hooked and needed to find out what the story was. I loved Tobias who always had something to say about everything that was happening and loved Abundio who was so torn between nature and beliefs.
The other characters were also interesting and well written and a large part of me would like to know more about them.
Humiliation was something I was very uncomfortable with until I read Grif’s Toy and Wes’ Denial - where I eventually understood and enjoyed it (well didn’t cringe empathically and could separate my feelings from Grif’s). That meant that I was comfortable reading the humiliation in this book and could enjoy how important it was to the two main characters.
I loved this story which was different to other Alpha/Beta/Omega books I have read. I would recommend it highly.
Fantastic, original and hard to put down from chapter 1!
I am a fan of omegaverse, but my surprise when I find one that is so original and new, I feel like my heart is about to jump out of my chest - I am over the moon!!
Already a big fan of Joseph Lance Tonlet’s work and this spectacular novel just added to the absolutely delightful discovery! It’s one of the best omegaverse novels I have read to date, I loved how original it is, I enjoyed the self-discovery Tobias was going through and the levels of kink that were explored here. I’m convinced now that no matter what trope this author picks up - the creativity and gorgeous writing will always hold me captive.
Brilliant book! Amazing concepts to add such interesting twists to the trope that I absolutely I loved it! Highly recommend.
I’ve never read anything quite like it and that’s saying something. I’ve read hundreds of omegaverse stories and this one kept me enthralled from beginning to end.
I will say that it won’t be for everyone, because some very dark subjects are touched upon.
Toby is a police detective who sees the absolute worst that the alphas of his world inflict upon the omegas that belong to them. As a result, he has a love/hate relationship with alphas. Abundio is an alpha that Toby encounters by accident. Their relationship swift and contentious.
Toby and Abundio weren’t all that likable to me, at the beginning of the story, but seeing how amazing Abundio was as Toby was encouraged to embrace his hidden omega nature, was incredible. There were clear rules established and severe punishments delivered to Toby. Don’t get me wrong, Abundio’s alpha nature caused more than one problem in their relationship, so it wasn’t all Toby, but I was extremely disappointed that we didn’t see Abundio’s punishment happen, when we see all of that with Toby.
I also wished to see more of Abundio and Greg with Toby, and maybe a birthday scene as well, but alas, that was not to be either. Overall, I thought it was an excellent idea that was executed well enough. Solid 3.75 stars
I have wanted to read this book for a very long time, almost since it was announced. It has been a long wait but a few days back I got an email informing me the book was already out, and that disrupted quite a few reading plans but here I am.
I took all of yesterday to revel in the deliciousness of this story. It was phenomenal.
First things first, this is an omegaverse unlike any other. Suffice it to say that I have read a lot of stories featuring the omegaverse but this one has to be the most fantastical. There are a lot of things at play besides the expected alpha-beta-omega hierarchy, like a lot and a lot of that exploration forms the basis of the plot. I really liked how this story explores that avenue to tell a compelling story. Though I have a few questions. The world-building while very expansive and intriguing leaves quite a few things unexplained.
This story follows Tobias Hanson, a homicide detective in a very unique set of circumstances. This book in essence is an exploration of Tobias and his birth nature and what that means for him and how the things he wants contradicts his perception of himself.
As the story starts you are immediately reminded of the brutality of the world we are exploring and what that means to our main character. As Tobias meets Abundio, things begin to change and Tobias is confronted with what it means to be himself.
Tobias is an omega who has lived his entire life as a beta but once he starts courting Abundio, an alpha he is confronted with what it means to be an omega, what it means to submit and to give up control. This story takes the whole alpha-omega dynamic to a whole new level. The entire story focuses on control and submission and how Tobias' unique perspective on life is now influencing his courtship with Abundio.
It is a very thorough exploration and it's very sexual. This book is unrelenting to an unhealthy degree and we get to see the entire thing play out in stark details. If you ask me I was mesmerized by how this story explored the alpha-omega dynamic, it was just so compelling and captivating.
I really enjoyed the book and what it does because it was a rather singular focus on a character and their sexuality and personally I would have loved to explore more. The ending feels a little convenient but I was there for the characters.
Overall, this has been a fascinating read and I truly enjoyed my time reading this.
Whew. What a ride! In true JLT fashion, this isn't an easy read. It features a lot of triggers, so be sure to check before diving in. Part of what makes JLT books, for me, is the fact that he can make me stop and really *think* about taboo topics instead of pigeon-holing them based in first impressions. This book, like many ABO books, makes us think about consent and gender roles and societal expectations.
Some aspects felt a touch incomplete (I feel like Toby's job as a detective in this world could have been explored in more depth), and it didn't resonate with me as much as his Tease & Denial books - but that could be because they were my first love. I appreciated the Easter Eggs to his previous books, such as including LaFon glassware.
Overall, an excellent example of the uncomfortable side of ABO. If you are a fan Fate: Malthusia by Emma Jaye, this is for you.
Wow! Just like my title says, this book was absolutely AMAZING! The world building alone took dedication and was so detailed. It sucked me right in and had my heart pumping through out the whole book. Although I did not find this book triggering, it is a little dark (which I personally love) and not for the faint of heart. I would give more stars if I could. I definitely recommend this book.
I highly recommend this one. So well written. Joseph Lance Tonlet is my favorite author. So worth waiting for. Looking forward to more of his story telling.🥂🌈🌈🌈
It’s been several years since Joseph Lance Tonlet has released a book and I was intrigued to see him publishing again. Omega Born offers a different direction than his contemporary novels and there is a specific story here set within a larger world. This book has some details spelled out and some details must be inferred and there were still other areas that have the propensity to offend and, at the end of the book, I was trying to work out how I offended I was.
The set up for the world is that everyone is either an Alpha, beta, or omega. Those three categories have been genetically altered, giving Alphas what is considered the top end of the gene pool and everyone else trickles down from there. Abundio is a scientist and worked on creating the characteristics and traits of omegas, and he knows them well, even better than they know themselves in some cases.
I found myself really liking Tobias the male omega in this book. He's a detective that deals with murdered omega's so he has seen the brutality his kind suffers from sadistic alphas. But, and I mean big but here, his alpha Abundio Chale is different.... Um kinda different. Ima say Abundio is actually highly hypocritical when it comes to saying one thing and doing another. This book also was very heavy on humiliation and degradation towards omega males. For instance the alpha's liked talking bad to those omegas 's about their manhood. This book also is on the moderate side of BDSM. The alpha's are made to be sexualy sadistic and the male omega's are just supposed to take it. I'm not sure I actually like Abundio but Tobias is strong mentally and Physically. Oh yeah, and I feel teased a bit. Slight spoiler coming. I wanted to read about Tobias getting with Chale another male omega and I wanted to read about Abundio's friend Greg I think his name was. I found myself really liking the other men Abundio introduced Tobias too.
I have been waiting to read this book for the longest time. I finally bought it. It started off as a five star story. Really unique starting plot line. I liked the whole concept of omega Detective. But as the story progress, about the 50% mark the book dropped two stars because it was all about sex and a weird Alpha Omega relationship. It was just not satisfying. The whole Detective plotline never played a role in the story. It was like suddenly they both were in their own bubble behaving as they have been engineered to. No danger of outside world finding out. If this was natural it might have been easier to accept but the whole DNA modification plot just left a bad taste. In my mind you don’t introduce such a toxic plot without some kind of a redemption for the future or some kind of a rebel by the MCs. The alpha behavior especially towards the end was just a turn off.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book pissed me off to no end. It's set in an ABO sci-fi world where omegas are terribly mistreated. Of course the pairing here is an alpha and an omega. The alpha is introduced as one of the good guys, but unfortunately that doesn't last. To be perfectly clear, BDSM without consent is torture. The way the alpha goes about it is horrendous. I can't believe we're supposed to think that he is one of the good guys. This isn't love - it's abuse.
2 stars because it's entertaining and quick to read.
Wow, this story was terrible. Let me be specific, world in this story was absurd in every way. I mean, wtf? I disliked everything...world of the story, the romance between both MC and ending the most. Just, not for me I guess.
kink with worldbuilding. i'd recommend to anyone who likes abo and is looking for something unique. otherwise its definitely less "romance" and more "kink fic". the first punishment scene is pretty brutal.
This book was one of the weirdest I've ever read. I normally stay far away from dark/dub-con books but I think I was able to get through this 1. Because of how nonconforming Toby was and 2. Because I was so confused about literally every scene which intrigued me enough to finish hahhaha. There was also lots of comedic relief. Toby and Abun's relationship was very sweet, intense and hard-won. Interesting read!
