Forewarned and Forearmed: Preparing for Battle Against the Errors of Calvinism

Like a wildfire out of control, Calvinistic theology has invaded many of our churches today. Some see it as representing the true theology of the historic Christian faith. Others view it as an aberrant form of the Christian faith. Which one is right? Does Calvinism truly represent the biblical position of the Word of God, or is there error in its theological persuasion?

Forewarned and Forearmed will walk you through the five major tenets of Calvinistic theology often represented by the acronym TULIP. It will explain what Calvinists mean and teach by each of them. It will also expose Calvinism's error and show how it is truly misaligned with the clear teaching of the Bible.

227 pgs | Paperback | Dr. Chris Shepler

About the Author: Dr. Chris Shepler is a Bible teacher, preacher and soul winner with a strong burden and definite gift for clear preaching of salvation truth and thorough teaching of foundational doctrines in the church. He founded Victory Bible Baptist Church, a soul-winning church in Irmo, South Carolina, and pastored it for 38 years.

Since retiring from the pastorate, he has served as an interim pastor, taught at the Bill Rice Bible Institute, and preached For the Faith conferences in various churches. His conferences address issues attacking the church today (such as Lordship salvation and hyper-Calvinism) and offer the average Christian the tools he needs to defend his faith.

It is very important to know what we know and why we know it.

Reading the works of those who oppose our doctrine is vital to this endeavor of testing and strengthening our faith. I grew up in Independent fundamental Baptist circles and have read most all of the works of John R. Rice, the founder of Sword of The Lord Publishers who published this book. It was with much struggle, prayer, and study in God's Word that I abandoned pre-dispensational, Wesley-Arminian theology and embraced the Doctrines of Grace (Calvinism). Dr. Shepler's anti-Calvinist work was one of the first I have come across from the denominational circles in which I was raised. I have many dear Brothers and Sisters in fundamental churches who I look forward to sharing eternity with, and it was actually a flyer from a local Church where Dr. Shepler will be a conference speaker and his biography that made me aware of Forewarned and Forearmed: Preparing for the Battle Against the Errors of Calvinism.

This book is written with the laymen in mind. The reader will not struggle with understanding the text or the authors point of view. Many of the perceived short comings in the tenets of reformed theology are addressed and legitimate concerns are raised. I found the writing to be loving and spoken from the heart of one who is truly concerned for the souls of men.

However, Dr Shepler's critique of the Doctrines of Grace is nothing groundbreaking or unexpected. This is simply a defense of Weslyian Arminiasm, prevenient grace, and synergistic soteriology. If you are looking for logical fallacies, prooftexting ad nauseam, and a field of burning straw men then you have come to the right place.

I would suggest that anyone reading this who wants a better understanding of the Doctrines of grace pick up a copy of John Murray's Redemption Accomplished and Applied, John Owen's Death of Death in the Death of Christ, and or the "anathematized" Institutes of The Christian Religion by John Calvin.

This is a great book to encourage the practice defending proper Biblical Systematic Theology.
