Really good book and excellent continuation of the story of the DragonGuard. Thoralf’s story is one all fans have been eagerly awaiting, and it didn’t disappoint.
Thoralf returns home to place he’s longed for, and in it he finds Willa a lady who dragon was stolen. Can he help restore Willa and his Kings Dragons? Is there finally a way?
Read this wonderful book 6, and find out for yourself.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
My take on this entire series is "not really bad but not good either." Unfortunately, the majority of the books is just vague melodramatic fluffle surrounding little bits of love story; a lot of running around and hints of action without much action on page. Thoralf and Willa are better than most of the couples in some ways. Their relationship arc works well. They do go off script a bit with their mate bond compared to other couples in similar match types (Stein with Vera and Rorik with Poppy but recognize the mates despite the women being unable to recognize it). The antagonist wrap up is decently done but the overall details of the knights cult is relatively shallow. Even bad people have depth and get some return on their evil but, we have no details here. This book has the most stilted linguistics of the series. I thought Stein and Vera's book may have just been part of their characters but this book was uncomfortable to read in some spots due to the incongruous use of formal tone in extremely casual settings. If you're jumping in for mindless low thought entertainment, ehh you might be ok. Overall the series failed to capture my attention most of the time and did not give me true reading satisfaction. I don't hate it but would have stopped probably after book 2 if I had anything better on my tbr.
An attack on her clan left Willa without her Dragon. She's finally come to accept her new solitary life in the Northern Isles but nothing stays buried forever. Thoralf has spent years trying to find a way to reverse the process that stole the inner animals of both his King and Willa. He was one of Willa's rescuers and has never forgotten her. Being back in the Northern Isles stirs feelings between him and Willa. His return though brings chaos to her accepted existence. He thinks he's found evidence of a cure and needs Willa's help. She has never forgotten Thoralf and is drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Will she be able to face the horrors of her past, regain hope for the future and also gain a mate? Only reading the story will you get the answers. An amazing story I simply couldn't put down. Not only do we see Willa and Thoralf trying to navigate their feelings the old fashioned way-without the benefit of the dragon bond. There is a also the issue of whether Thoralf can complete his mission which at times left me on the edge of my seat.
Thoralf and Willa have the kind of relationship that really challenges even this author's definition of fated mates. I loved that the author took such a different approach with this couple. There's plenty of danger and intrigue in the conclusion of the mystery and magic that we've seen throughout the series, so it was refreshing to read a less angsty romance.
I loved the focus on the history of the dragon clans, and was pleasantly surprised to discover Thoralf and Willa's ancestral connection. I adored the way that justice was served and peace was restored to the shifter community. As the last in this series, we get an epilogue filled with updates on all the characters from the earlier books as well as a beautifully celebratory HEA for Willa and Thoralf.
This author is my all-time favorite for shifter romances, and I highly recommend all of her series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Good to get an ending to the troubles that have plagued the Dragon Isles. I loved Thoralf, but what is not to love about an honourable soldier who puts his life on the line to right a terrible wrong. Willa was a bit woe is me at the start and I felt annoyed with her. And though she came through in the end, I felt she needed a bit more of a wake up, life is not that bad moment. Though I loved what she did to Lord Harken. I would have loved to have heard some of Thoralf’s travel stories too. Lovely to have a happy ending in regards to things that have happened previously and good to have everyone play a part in this final book, but sad that so many lives have been lost. I would have liked just a bit more romance between Willa and Thoralf, especially once Willa flew to his side when he was injured. Sex is not romance. The book needs a quick tidy up as it was obviously not proofed sufficiently. This is my honest review of this book which I read through KU.
I had been looking forward to Thoralf's book and I am a little disappointed. Thoralf gives me Rune Factory Reinhard vibes with a little Don Quixote thrown in and I was expecting an unconventional FMC to shake his routine/worldview/ethics up a bit for him. It is a shame that he was paired with an equally reserved FMC, because at times it made the book a bit boring and at others, positively tepid. (It's like Reinhard really did get paired with Beatrice and that is predictably meh.)
Even when Lady Willa was all angsty about losing her dragon, she was just so damn polite about it!
⚠️ Warning Spoilers! ⚠️
She murders the man responsible for the Ice Dragons' demise in cold blood (heh), immediately feels bad, but then just gets over it. It is all so very mature of her. I give the book three mehs.
Water Dragon Thoralf is coming by home after three years. He lived with the King and the Prince after he lost his parents and became the Kings ward. HR had met Last Wilda when they got a call for help. She was the only one left alive but she lost her dragon. They take her home with them but she didn't want to be around anyone so they put her in a cottage. It ended being the one that Thoracic was raised in till his parents died. He found a book that they wanted her to translate. They felt an attraction but didn't understand it . During the day she would translate and Therapy would fix the cottage. He felt he didn't want to leave her. When he was hurt on was mission she demanded to go a d stay with him while he healed. They decided to become mate
I really enjoyed this story and watching these two build a relationship together. Thoralf is very considerate of what Willa has gone through and while he knows there is attraction there, he isn't going to push her too fast. He wants to help her heal and is on a quest that can help her to recover her lost dragon and he needs her help to finish it. There was plenty of action and intrigue as we watch these two come together and build something real and lasting. This is the last book in the series and this did a good job of wrapping things up and coming to a nice conclusion. I also enjoyed our catchup with the rest of the characters from the previous books and getting to see where they were at now. Great way to end the series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Thoralf returns after his couple of years long quest with hope of finding a cure to The Wand's power. To do this be reconnect with Willa, a victim of The Wand, and also someone he is attracted to. Helping to translate her ancient language brings Wills closer to Thoralf. I loved how honourable Thoral f was in both his quest and in his attraction to Willa, and I enjoyed seeing Willa come to live anew because of Thoralf and despite her grief. The characters are all likeable and this has been an excellent and enjoyable series. I received an ARC of this book but voluntarily leave this review.
The dragons have been looking for a way to restore the dragon's animals from the cursed Wand. Thoralf returns home to the Northern Isles with a book that has information about the Wand. It is written in a old runes known only to Ice Dragons and they need Willa to translate the book so they can find the temple in Firoska. The book is said to contain a cure that could reverse the effects of the Wand They have possession of the wand but don't know how to destroy it or reverse its effects. Lady Willa was the only survivor of the slaughter at Firoska by the Knights of Aristaeum and their Master, Lord Harken. God ending to this series.
This is book six of the series and picks up from book five. Thoralf has returned from his travels with some good news to share with the King and his father. He has found an artifact from a secret indigenous tribe. Now, he needs Lady Willa’s help to solve this puzzle. Also Willa is the true heir of the ice dragons. Yes, in this book, Willa reveals the history of her people, the ice dragons. They were quite protective of their privacy and did not mingle with the rest of the dragons unless required. Thoralf is so much a gentleman and very respectful towards Willa. These two get their happy ending. Read On!
All good things have to end, and sadly, this is it for the Northern Isles. That being said, it was an amazing way to end the series. Yes, Thoralf and Willa are the main focus. But we do see many of our past favorites. Willa had been through many losses, now she is asked to relive her past. Thoralf, how I have been waiting for his story. I fell in love with him from the very beginning. They had such a sweet romance. So many questions are answered. I can't say more without spoilers. It really was bittersweet. I received an advanced copy and this is my voluntary opinion.
I am a huge fan of Ms. Montgomery’s books. She has so many but each is so unique and I always fall in love with the characters. The stories can be read as stand-alone or as part of the series. The story is filled with romance and danger. Willa is our heroine and Thoralf is our hero. The romance between them is so sweet and you really feel the love that grows. Willa is an ice dragon and has a very sad and painful past that has brought her to the Northern Isles. Thoralf is on a quest to restore his king’s dragon and the beautiful Willa may be able to help.
This was a great conclusion to the Dragon guard series. Lots of questions were answered and a great HEA for Willa and Thoralf, which if you are an avid Montgomery reader you have been waiting for for a looooong time. This was a beautiful and sensual story, with Willa not having her dragon (see previous book) there was not an instant meeting of mates and she and Thoralf grew and healed together. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
This was great conclusion to this amazing series. As all good things have to. I'm sad that it over. But I did enjoy seeing many of the previous characters even though this book solely focuses on Thoralf and Willa. Also lots of questions were answered which made for a helluva of HEA for Willa and Thoralf. Overall a very enjoyable and entertaining read. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
What a fantastic conclusion! I couldn’t put this book down! I’ve been waiting for Thoralf’s story and it definitely did not disappoint! Such a beautifully sweet story with such an epic conclusion that just makes your heart happy! Willa was amazing and her and Thoralph were so perfect for each other! I absolutely loved this story and I very highly recommend the whole series! I am voluntarily leaving an honest review for this complimentary copy of this book
Book six of the Dragon Guard of the Northern Isles series. Former captain of the Dragon Guard Water Dragon Thoralf and Lady Willa's story is well written with a very good storyline that held my interest throughout. I was not putting the book down until I was finished. I enjoyed seeing these two get their happy ending. There is suspense, drama, evil, danger, villains, friends, romance and a surprise for Willa. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I'm sorry that this was the last book in the series as I enjoyed each and every story and character. I remember when the king lost his Dragon and was heartbroken. I always felt Willa and her story was not given their due. This was such a wonderful heartwarming adventure 💕. With Dragons restored I'm completely okay with this being the last story. However what's next with this this little bit of heaven that Alicia created...
I highly recommend this series and the other series in the Blackstone collection. Alicia expertly weaves the lives of all of her characters throughout the series. I never get tired of seeing her weave new characters with much loved characters from other stories. I can't wait to see what's next! Either Thorne or Stravos' stories would be great and I know Alicia will work her magic again!!
This is a beautiful ending to a great series. Thoralf has been on a quest to find the solution to the king's lost dragon and now he thinks he has the answer but he needs Lady Willa to help. Willa has been basically hiding since she arrived in the Northern Isles and Thoralf is sympathetic to her fears. Slowly these twos budding relationship grows and they find the answers that are needed. A story full of romance, intrigue and action.
Last book (I think) the main storyline was about the wond that takes away their animal. Willas clan was hit killing them all but her (because she was buried under bodys) but the wond was used on her taking her dragon. Struggling to cope with the loss of everything, how will she know if she met her mate? Can she get her Dragon back and help stop the human who hates shifters.
Thoralf left right after the wand was used on the king and took his dragon, the same happened to Willa the only one alive of her clan. He followed many leads around the world until he was given a book about one the original ice dragons. Willa and Thoralf fell in love but didn’t recognize each other as mates until her dragon was restored to her after she went the alter and destroyed the wand. Good book!
A definite one of my favourite authors. Her books are light on the heart and heavy on the libido. I am a big fan of Blackstone mountain series and Dragon Guard crusader is a continuation of that with overlapping characters that are easy to love. Thoralf finally has the means to end his crusade in restoring his honor. Willa is given the opportunity to truly heal her heart and soul. A beautiful story of two loving people coming together in a sweet wholesome way. I think this might be one of my favourite books in the Northern Isle series. A definite must read series, and author. Beautiful ending to a lovely series.
We've read about Thoralf since Blackstone Mountain Series. Oh wow!!! We finally get his and Lady Willa's story. And what a hea it is. I love that you could see their connection even though the Wand had stolen her dragon. It was just all the way around great way for the end of this series to come about.
It's sad that this series has to end, but what a great ending. The storyline wrapped up all the questions you might have had and the interaction between the characters was wonderful. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
This is the final book in this amazing series! Wow, it's been an amazing ride! This is Willa and Thoralf's story and it was worth the wait! So good! Alicia Montgomery has written and amazing series and I am hoping for a bundle! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
A good conclusion to the Dragon Guard series. This is Thoralf who is on a quest to find the wand to reverse removal dragons and Wiila who lost her dragon, Adventure, emotions ,twist and romance. we also get to see some characters from previous stories. Good ending. Enjoyed reading. Voluntarily reviewed.
Loved the couple and their slow growth together. Falling in love without fear.
I would love to see a series of some of the shifter clans. Also a future series set when the children are grown. Maybe with this couples children moving to take her old home over. With one or more with magic powers that awaken when they visit.
Willa last her dragon and she was the last of her kind. Thoralf left right after these attacks. He was trying to find what he was looking for. When he returns and finds that Willa they hit it off sort of. This was a long coming for them and it was worth the wait.
After three years away, Thoralf finally returns with a chance to regain his honor as a Dragon Guard; too bad he needs Willa, who is so caught up in grief and bitterness, to help. This is a lovely story of two strong individuals overcoming fear, and it's also a great adventure with a loathsome foe to vanquish. What a great series!
