While not suffering from it myself, I already read some books about anorexia and talked with people which have been affected by it.
The biggest problem with this book is, that the author tries to write an "authentic" 15 year old girl and fails miserably. I read, that it took her 3 years to research the subject, yet she still seems to think 15 year olds talk and think like much younger and naive children.
"Wasted" by Marya Hornbacher is the best book I read about the subject, but it's definitely written for an audience, which doesn't have a problem with complicated themes, thoughts and language, so I get, why there are books, that are written in a more simple, easy and "fun" way, especially when it's the first book you read about such a serious issue. The problem with "Herzenssucht" is, that it just seems flat out naive and oblivious, without adressing the causes and effects anorexia really has on people, which might be the reason why most people would read it in the first place.
Dear Miss Schlieper: Please don't underestimate Teens and especially your audience.
I love the way of writing, the detailed information which shows that the author really did research and all the (nick)names of the characters. It's wonderful. Some kind of dreamy, I would say.
