Her Long Tall Texas Daddy

Rate this book
Can a Daddy’s love tempt her to stay in the small town she fled?

Calliope Clark escaped from Bandera, Texas and never planned to look back. But, making it as a professional ballerina is tougher than she’d imagined. When her father calls to dump the responsibility for the family farm on her shoulders, Calliope returns home to sell it—quickly.

Kyle Harris has loved the delicate dancer living on the acreage next door for years. Sure, he wants to buy the land, but he’ll do anything to make sure this second chance to have Calli in his life as his Little girl doesn’t slip through his fingers.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but this complete stand alone book made me feel a bit underwhelmed.

There were some inconsistencies in the story itself and I felt the story didn’t really go anywhere. I was missing the connection between the two main characters. And I didn’t care for them.

The hornet scene made me laugh though. It could just picture it.

At the beginning, Calliope kind of seemed like a brat, but I guess that was the point, lol. I think I was more disappointed in her for the way she just left her dad behind, than I did for the lack of communication between her and Kyle. I'm glad that they finally got together, but COMMUNICATION, people!!

This was just an all-around feel-good, Daddy/little girl storyline that just gave all the flutter feels you could ask for from this genre. This is the first book I've read with Maren Smith and Pepper North as a team but rest assured, it won't be the last.

This is the second in the series about Daddies and their Littles, which, I assume, will ultimately be set in each state of the union. Here we get Calliope, who leaves her Texas hometown when she's the victim of bullying. The boy-next-door has never ceased loving her; can he convince her to stay when her father asks her to come home? Note: In looking at my review for the first (Her Montana Master), I see that "Kyle" was brother to that MFC. Given that this "Kyle" doesn't mention a sister, I guess there's no connection.

This book was okay, but I think mislabeled: fans of Age Play will be disappointed since there's absolutely none here (some talk, but no action). What there is is Daddy Kink since Calliope does call Kyle that, but I didn't see anything particularly "Little" about her. I did appreciate that this was consensual; the Calliope was neither a brat nor a doormat; and that Kyle did take exquisite care of her.

That said, there was so much lack of continuity in this book that its co-authoring showed. Calliope either makes regular holiday visits home or she hasn't been back in five years. She's either dedicated to her dancing career or she rarely practices. Her high-school classmates are either around 25 or old enough to have 12-year-old children. She and Kyle have rarely interacted since "the incident" when she was 12 or they saw each other all the time. I could go on, but you get the point. In addition, because there's absolutely no tension in this book (all Calliope's reservations pretty much evaporate in less than 24 hours), the authors are forced to manufacture a conflict so ludicrous that only someone truly paranoid would believe it. There were other problems: I don't appreciate slut-shaming (which is what the authors conveyed in the skinny-dipping scene); I thought Calliope's father was unbelievably clueless; Texas is hardly the paradise for women that these authors claim; and the authors have clearly never set foot in the "Garden State."

3 stars. I don't agree with other reviewers that Callie is "selfish" to want to leave home since, uhm, that's what children do. They go off to college or to a job, sometimes, gasp, in another state. They're not obligated to stay with their parents and take care of them for all their natural-born lives.

ETA: As per usual for this site, a couple of people have spoiled the entire ending. Really don't understand why the spoiler function is beyond them.

This review will contain spoilers for the end of the book.

I do want to start off saying that I did enjoy most of this book. Then I got towards the end where author's usually like to add extra drama, and that is the part I hated and made this is a two star for me.

She literally overhears a piece of a conversation, and completely assumes something horrible. I do have social anxiety, and my brain will make up scenarios where people don't like me or talk bad about me, stuff like that. So I understand her jumping to a bad conclusion. The part I hated, was where she didn't confront the MMC about it, and just ran off and left town. Didn't try to get his side of things or understand what was being said, especially since she didn't hear all of it. She just left. Would have conversations with her father, who would tell her that he thought she made a mistake and she should just come home, with her replying she needs to think on it.

The MMC came to her, she didn't go back, he went to her. She was happy to see him and left right away to go back to her place to talk. The part that bothered me even more was that he acted like she was kind of justified in her reaction. Even saying that the woman she overheard feels bad about what the FMC heard and that her own daughter wasn't talking to her because of it. Why would she feel bad? She literally said nothing wrong. The FMC blew it way out of proportion and then didn't even bother to figure out what actually happened. Everyone just acted like she didn't overreact, but she did.

I really hate the miscommunication trope. Even more so the eavesdropping trope and getting it wrong. I will never understand why authors choose this as their drama source. Nothing frustrates me more than scenarios like this. I end up raging so hard during moments like that. It immediately drops the book to a two or one star for me. I was going to give this book four stars, until that part.

This is clearly just my opinion and my issues. A lot of people liked this book, so you might also. I just wish that authors would include a trigger warning saying that there is miscommunication or eavesdropping and getting it wrong, so I can avoid books like this. Because if I knew this was in the book, I never would have read it.

A wonderful second book, great plot and characters a captivating read
This was a wonderful read and I have to advise that if you are like myself, you will find that once you begin reading it is impossible to put the book down until you discover the final outcome.
Calliope had run away from town after a misunderstanding that happened and kyles friend’s hade her life unbearable so she left without a backward glance. Kyle unfortunately had never known how cruel his fiends had been and that this had been what forced her to leave him without a word.
She had returned to care for her father after he asked her to come back to town for a short time and unfortunately Kyle had also arrived and their feelings begin to rekindle, Kyle knows that Calliope is extremely wary and takes things very slowly knowing she is very wary.
Once again the same few people are out to cause heartache and suffering and once again she fails to go to kyle and runs but this time he does not simply sit back. He will show her exactly what it is to be his little girl and how important she is in his life.
This is a wonderful read that is filled with a lot of actual good points people should take on board and learn from, carrying them through life will make you all the wiser.
I do not want to spoil the plot so will say no more about the three of them, I assure you that you will enjoy every single moment of this book.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

This was such a sweet story. Calliope fled town after a misunderstanding that happened and Kyle's friends tormented her about it. He never knew what his friends did and he mourned her leaving. When she came back at her father's request, she only planned to stay for a little while but Kyle shows up and those feelings come back. Everyone has grown up but Calliope doesn't know that and she still fears they all hate her. Little by little, Kyle worms his way back into her heart and teaches her about being his little girl. When another misunderstanding happens and drives her away yet again, I wanted to shake her. It shows how important it is to communicate and how misunderstandings can cause major problems in a relationship. Will Callie finally understand what it means to talk instead of run? Will Kyle still want her as his little girl? So sweet and so perfect!! These two authors wrote a beautiful story.

As soon as she could after graduation Calliope packed her car & left Bandera Texas never to return. She left to get her degree in Ballet Dancing & then dance professionally. Well five years have passed & she is living in New Jersey and scooping ice cream just to survive while going to auditions.
Then she receives call from her father telling she’s needs to come home and take over running the farm so he can start living his life at 78. Calliope couldn’t believe she was going back home to the town that held the people who mistreated her over a mistake she made in school, plus she would have to face the boy she secretly loved. As soon as Kyle lays eyes on calliope he knows he is finally complete & is not going to let his calli girl get away again. Will calliope stay or Runaway once again.

Kyle and Calli

Calli was a wanna be ballerina from a small town in Texas living in New Jersey.
When her Dad called her and asked her to come home to sell their farm she debated long and hard about going before she decided to go.
When Calli pulled up to the house her Dad met her at the door and told her he was going on a cruise ! He said if she needed any help to call Kyle, their next door neighbor.
Calli had loved Kyle for a very long time but they never had a chance to be together before she took off to make it big in New York.
Now Kyle would have a chance to finally claim his Little Girl and Calli could have her Daddy.
And so the love story begins.
I loved this one.
Enjoy !

Calliope escaped from small town life to the big city to live her dream. Things haven't quite worked out as she imagined. But, returning to Bandera means returning to face those who humiliated her. Kyle knew from early in his teen years he was dominant. He's been waiting for his Little girl to come back home. The time is now,. His Calli girl is home and he means to stake his claim. They finally really communicate and clear away past misunderstandings, set up expectations both current and future and settle into a fulfilling Daddy/Little relationship. But once again Calli jumps the gun, misinterprets something she overhears and flees without explanation. It takes a meddling "concerned godmother" of sorts to set things in motion for Kyle and Calli's happily ever after.

Calliope needs to go home. Her Dad is ready for her to take over the family farm, but she doesn't even want to go back. She left her small town to pursue her dream of being a ballerina...even though that dream hasn't worked out.

Kyle wants Calliope's family land...but he wants her more. He's wanted her since high school but once school was over, she left town.

Kyle was so attentive to Calliope ok the farm. The hornets nest, Toro and her bra *snicker* and his surprise. He is such a good Daddy to her, especially since she's just realizing that she's Little.

And Dorothy...I cried so dang hard!

Calliope escaped from a town she felt bullied in for most of her life, but her father convinced her to come back. Honestly, I think he was being a bit of a jerk, but in a loving way to do what he thought was best. She runs into her old crush, Kyle, and the attraction is off the charts. They almost immediately begin a relationship, and things progress until olds insecurities reign supreme. I do love how well the story was told, and how resilient Cally is, and even love the HEA and how it played out.

Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

There is no place like home, if there is a Daddy waiting for you.

A conniving loving father with a plan and a lovestruck neighbour push Calli on the path to self discovery allowing her the luxury of choosing the shape of her destiny.
I had a wonderful time reading this incredibly tender and sweet narrative, full of laughter, fun and naughty good times.

I had wondered how a ballerina and a rancher were going to make this romance work, I should have known these writers had it covered, utilizing their creativity to fashion a workable scenario.

Kyle and Calliope. A match made in Texas!
Kyle and Calliope’s story brings all the emotion! This story is sweet and funny. It will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. Add in plenty of steamy moments and you have a ten star book!! The authors do an amazing job of making you feel as if you are watching this story unfold. It is a wonderful story of finding love where you least expect it. It shows us that home is where the one you love is.
This story is well written and the characters are well thought out and amazing! This book is so good I couldn’t put it down.

Calli makes it home

Years ago when she was 12 Calli believed the wrong person and made a mistake. She paid for it all the way through high school then left town. Years later she's returned to sell her dad's farm. The boy next door wants her to stay.

This jumped into their attraction quickly and the story moved along. Calli is a Little and Kyle is ready to be her Daddy. She has a hard time trusting anyone after the way she was treated and this leads to mistakes but she gets her HEA.

Calliope wants to be a professional ballerina and after being bullied with rumors and gossip, she goes to New Jersey to work scooping ice cream as she tries out for roles in NYC, which is too expensive to live in. Her dad calls her back home to take responsibility of the farm. Kyle Harris from the neighboring farm wants Callie and her farm and boy are they great once they are together, horrible but funny as they have a few scary-laughable incidents happen with bulls, bees and bras. Read it and see if you don't agree with me.

So this is bubblegum Dd/Lg. There's no real conflict here and the heroine comes across as really immature. She keeps talking about how the "whole town" hates her but it was just 2 people being obnoxious in high school (nothing traumatic or anything) who immediately apologize to her and everyone then I guess has to walk around eggshells with her so she's not hurt.
She is the one who can't seem to get passed highschool. They are all 23 now so maybe it's just a maturity thing.
Overall it has some fun spicy scenes but it was a little to light a read for me. And that's hard to do.

Calliope and Kyle were so cute together! They didn't let the past define their relationship after they talked it through. You could really feel the emotions of what they both went through.

Calliope's dad cracked me up with his meddling ways. I loved how it seemed like everyone was rooting for Kyle and Calliope. I really love both Pepper North and Maren Smith and when you put them together you get a great story!

Calliope left Bandera, Tx as soon as she graduated high school and went to New Jersey to be a dancer. Her dad wants her to come home and run the farm because he is getting old. When she does come back she runs into her neighbor Kyle and the sparks do fly. Kyle has know since high school that Calli was a Little. You have got to read this wonderful book to see all there ups and downs and how they finally get together. Enjoy

He's loved her since high school but unknown to him, his friends taunted and tormented her over a misunderstanding. She flees, moving halfway across the country, returning only to sell the land she grew up on. Watching the progress of their relationship and the inevitable ups and downs draws you into the story.

So yeah, one minor incident in school and you get black listed. No big...poof, your gone the second you can't get out. But can you really escape?

Not if a meddling (if not a bit bumbling) dad and the best guardian grandma have any say.

I absolutely love their story. It's sweet, funny and utterly sexy. Highly recommend.

I cannot figure out what it is, but I just love this trope and these two authors together are killing it!!! So good!

I fell in absolute love with Kyle, OMG!

Returning home to a place she never thought she'd return. But, she won't be there for long as she plans to just sell! Kyle may have different plans.

I smiled, I swooned, I cried! So many feels; I loved it!

Entertaining read

There was a lot of telling (rather than showing and natural development) and a lot of the growth of the characters happened off-stage or in somewhat forced ways, but it was still an entertaining read with a cute couple that I wish I could have gotten to know better and see grow. :-)

What a great story! An incident in high school caused the heroine to run away but some people really do grow up and the same people treated her with kindness and respect when she came back. The Daddy and his Little made a great couple. A great story!
