Iron Dogz MC #8

Bitter Taste Of Sin

Rate this book
Sin
Ten years of regret.
Ten years of shame.
Ten years of rage.
Ten years of hopelessness.
Ten years of waiting for a sign.
And then, finally, he received the sign he had been waiting for. The woman who held his heart was back. He would do anything and everything for her, for them.
For forgiveness. For a second chance. For the opportunity to be a family.
However, the Iron Dogz MC was at war. A war unlike any they had fought before. A war with a vicious enemy. An enemy focused on their total destruction.
He would bleed and kill to protect what was his.
Sky
He shattered my heart.
Obliterated my trust in the cruelest way imaginable.
His terrifying threats had me running from him and his club.
I swore I would never come back.
But here I am. Back where I said I would never set foot again.
If I could avoid him I would. Unfortunately there’s more at stake than just me.
He wants a second chance. A chance to prove he has changed.
Giving him a chance requires trust.
Trust I’m hesitant to give.
Because this time I’m not the only one who could get hurt.

Obviously this is a series you should read in sequence, but that's a minor issue.

Nothing says soul mate and I love you forever like NOT going after the love of your life for ten years, having meaningless and faceless sex because you got roofied and lied to, caught by said SM (soul mate) then threaten to cut the baby out of her because you're so stupid to believe it's your cousin's baby. Whew..run on sentence! The H is saving her from himself. It's only when she comes back decade later from the US as a thinner, badass rock n' roll chick that he wants to reconnect.

Plot moppets galore as well as evil women, his mother, his sister and her BF. Dubious comeuppance for his mom and sister, but it's not looking good for sis.

The H was "roofied" and raped by ow (his evil sister's best friend), and the h catches them in the act. But the things that came out of his mouth are his and his alone. He allowed others to molest the h while she was trying to run out of the club when he threatened to kill his unborn child (because he thought she cheated on him). He goes after the h only after 3 days after the whole fiasco. I kinda like my Heroes possessive of their heroines.
And the H didn't want to know about the h and his child for 10yrs (because he thinks she was better off without him). And yeah, he has a kid with ow after the rape which he knows only after 10yrs 🙄.
Nope, didn't like the H.

Ten years ago Sin was a new member to the Iron Dogz MC and he had the girl of his dream Sky. Everything should have been going towards a happily ever after, it was anything but. Ten years later Sin still regrets the way he treated Sky and the poor choices he made that cost him everything. Ten years later he has finally asked Ziggy to look into her, after seeing his brothers settle he is wondering if he could have a second chance with Sky.

Sin absolutely ravished Sky, she was destroyed but she found an inner strength that made her grow stronger. Now she is back home for a tour and knows it is is going to be difficult to ignore Sin. The time has come to face the past, but what she hears ends up shattering what she thought she knew. Can Sin and Sky build a world together even with a war raging around them?

This one was bittersweet, a big part of the story that has been consistent in books 1-8 comes to a close. That is not to say there will be other issues circulating around. This one was an emotional read, so much happens and Sins back story is a doozy. Another wonderful story.

**Received an ARC for my honest review**

This is my favorite trope where the hero pushes the pregnant heroine away apart from MC obviously of which I can read on a daily basis. So an MC and a hero denying that it's his child is an absolute bonus for me. I'm basically in book heaven.

Now for my review....

In the beginning of this book you're going to want to throw your eReader. I was so shocked at what happened with Skylar and that Sin allowed it to happen and also what he did altbough it was not completely his fsult.
Oh my gosh I wanted to bitch slap Sin's sister and her friend, even his mother. Those three are like witches.

Then the story continues about 10 yrs later. I must say even with the bad things Sin said and did 10 years ago, I felt sorry for him and what he mentally went through because of that.

I wanted a little more groveling from Sin's side but then again what he went through and who caused it, I felt that that was enough punishment for him.

Be prepared this book has a lot of twists and turns for the good and the bad. There's so much happening from secrets to betrayal to heartbreaking moments, real action and lots and lots more.

Oh my gosh!!! Rider's moment after his revenge was so heartbreaking. I cried so hard. He's so heartbroken I could feel his pain. I really hope he gets his HEA soon.

Not to spoil anything but at long last something big is happening with regards to the Syndicate. Their constant re-appearing in each book from this series so far, was what kept you on the edge of your seat.

My only regret is that the Crow did not make an appearance this time, but then again on the other hand the Crow cannot have all the fun and some must be left for the Iron Dogz.

Once again this was an absolutely amazing book.

I cannot say this enough, just go and get ALL the books from this series and start at the beginning. I promise, you won't be disappointed.

WOW just WOW is all I have left to say.

Well done yet again René, I just LOVED it.

I have been a long time fan of this series. The overarching story is layered and complicated but the author feeds it to you in bits and pieces and you are immersed in the Iron Dogz world. Each book has a couple but the ongoing story is the real talent of this author. She has the best talent for storytelling that I've ever read and I read a ton.

That being said I knew going in I would be angry with this hero. I actually wanted to hate him and I did for a bit. I have to admit he did grow on me but he handled things all wrong and needed a good knock on the head. I enjoyed seeing him suffer.

This book is packed as this author's books usually are. You don't just get a story of romance. You get a little of everything and her stories are action packed. I couldn't put it down. I laughed, I cried, I cried a lot!

The heroine was lovable and I liked her a lot once she grew a spine.

Another thing that this author is great at is creating the most vile villains. She never fails to shock me with her bad guys. They rip your heart out at how cruel they are and how far they are willing to go to get what they want.

This entire series is fabulous! Go in knowing you will be on the edge of your seat and it's a rollercoaster of a ride. I never want it to end!

I'm speechless.

This series has taken us all on such a journey, from a President who, to be quite honest, I didn't think was up to the job, through some of the most awful and terrifying club girls, and villains in general.

I have laughed, shouted, cried and fallen in love with each and every one of these men and women, especially Mr President. Their character growth throughout the series has been incredible to see.

But, let's look at this book, on its own. René, you took me to a whole new level of hurt. Not only for the main characters, but for the whole club. The way you have brought all the different parts of the journey together, yet leaving just enough for us to want more, is amazing.

But, in spite of it all.... well, I'm not one for spoilers so I'll just say, it'll be OK guys!!!

Fantastic read. Fantastic series.

This book was everything I imagined and more! Talk about roller coasters, there’s a lot packed into this book, everything comes together and we finally get our answers. I was sucked straight into the story, it starts with a bang and continues on from there! There’s lots of highs and lows, tissues will be needed. I’ve loved every minute of this series, the author takes you to places you didn’t know you wanted to go! Another fantastic read from this amazing author, can’t wait to see where she takes us next.

I am Undone!

René Van Dalen wrote a Labour of Love

The Book was an Emotional roller coaster from start to finish. There was so much that I couldn't believe she could pack so much in to the Story but she did it and it was packed.

René isn't shy of tackling serious issues and she did it with aplomb, determination, truth and with good intentions.

The Characters where well developed and had clear personalities. And they where relateble. It was a Well written and Amazing Story.

What a Ride

This was too long. So many words when it came to the actual grovel part it’s done in one page. If I had to read MyViking, My Sky My Little Bird one more time I was worried for my IPad! This premise has been done before and this time it just dragged out too long.

If you’ve been reading this series you will be waiting for this book. Fear not you will not be disappointed. This is the book that pulls it all together. With the romance of Sin and Sky (also known as Lix) playing throughout. I found it started slowly and at first I was not sure where it was going. Sin and Sky were together and then they weren’t and their story really begins 10 years later when Sin finally gets to meet his and Sky’s daughter Lee and surprisingly by another mother he finds he has a son CJ almost the same age as Lee. There are two intertwined threads of the romance and the war between the Dogz and the Harrison’s as it finally comes up it’s conclusion. Hawk and DC feature as do all the clan. We get a good dose of Spider too. This book tears on your heart especially with losses to the family and emotions being pulled every way. I won’t give anything away but be prepared for a compelling read and a book you won’t want to put down. I loved it and I immediately wanted to read it again. If you’ve never read this great series set in South Africa I would ask why? It’s been a revelation. Fresh and gritty, well written and one of my favourite mc series ever. Can’t wait to see where Rene takes the next book. I absolutely loved it.

So many twists and turns in this story.
My heart went out for a Sin and sky ,how they lost 10 years due to the evil machinations of his mom and sister.Sin's daughter had to live without her Dad for so many years.
The club was dealing with so much.there was attack on every front.
Hawk proved to be a worthy president and brother to his club once again.
I would love to read more about Ice and his twins.
Sky was a very strong character well written.
This book had many similarities with our Indian shows .it has the recipie of a masala hindi movie.Dont want to give any spoilers so will keep it short.

Sin was everything I needed and more. The Iron Dogz MC never disappoint and are the my go to read at any time and this book is no exception. But I gotta say Lee and CJ are what made the book go from great to fantastic for me. I love how much Sin and Sky love those kids and don't hesitate to show them. All of the Iron Dogz men always know just got to melt your heart a little with their love and devotion to not only their Ol' Lady but to everyone in the Iron Dogz family. But I will say you do need a quite few tissues for this one. I can't wait to see who's next.

Sin and Sky take you on an emotional turmoil and beyond, he pushed her away at the worst of times 10 years ago and regretted ever since, Sky was broken and trust was never easy for her since, but now shes back and wishing to not cross paths with Sin is easier said than done when he wants another chance, but with the club at war and more than just her heart on the line can they ever have a second chance. This story holds your attention through out, the deph of characters and detail is just wow, this whole series is just something else , and im loving every moment!

This was absolutely my favorite book in the series.
I was so emotional from start to finish.
Sin is a bad*ss biker with a major attitude and a wall around his heart.
It all started with an unplanned pregnancy and him pushing the women away.
I Loved this book, it kept me on edge with what was going to happen, you also got to read about the dark side of the mc lifestyle, the ending was so beautiful.

Skylar (age?) and Carl (27) have been together for 3 years. Carl/Sin never takes Skylar to the club and has been spending more and more time there without Skylar. He was home long enough to get her pregnant 3 months ago. She just took a pregnancy test.

His family also doesn't like her, and Carl won't really talk about why. His sister Monika has a BFF, Crystal, who wants Carl for herself, so that doesn't help things.

In the world's weirdest coincidence, Monika and her BFF Crystal show up at her house right after Skylar took the pregnancy test. Monika asks to use the bathroom, finds the positive test, and manipulates Skylar into going to the clubhouse that night to tell Sin about the pregnancy.

When Skylar gets there, she finds Sin having sex with Crystal. So, what Monika and Crystal told Sin was this: Monika and Crystal supposedly caught Skylar having sex with Jason, Sin’s cousin, and the baby is Jason’s. Sin says if he ever sees Skylar again, he’ll kill her and the baby. He's obviously intoxicated, but he can describe everything Monika and Skylar told him, so he doesn’t seem overly intoxicated.

Skylar goes back home to her parents. She tells them what happened with Sin. Skylar leaves her home in South Africa and moves to Georgia, USA, where she has an aunt, because Sin won’t know to look for her there.

Sin wakes up the next morning. He remembers Monika telling him Skylar cheated, and they agreed to set up his room to look like he was also cheating. But he finds an actual used condom in the bathroom trash. He remembers Monika giving him a drink and thinks he was probably roofied. He figures in his drugged state, he ended up fucking Crystal, although he doesn’t remember doing it. And lastly, he realizes he doesn’t really think Skylar cheated.

Sin then goes home and finds Skylar has already moved out.

Next, Jason tells Sin he had caught Monika sleeping with a married man, and Monika had sworn to get even. Monika got even with both Jason and Skylar by accusing them of having an affair together.

Sin never looks for Skylar, because Skylar’s dad told him Skylar was happy, safe, and better off without him.

Sin also went No Contact with his family because his mother and sister were involved in this plan together to get rid of Skylar. Sin has been in contact with his dad once his dad divorced his mom.

The story skips forward 10 years. Sin is now 38 and the Sergeant at Arms of the Iron Dogz. There’s some stuff going on with Hawk and his wife DC (main couple from Book 1). DC is under threat from a guy named Sharma. Sharma is being used to lure girls into sex trafficking. He works for a couple named Henderson.

Meanwhile, Sky has become a singer in a rock band. Her baby is now a 9-year-old little girl named Lilou Moon, called Lee, who travels with the band while being homeschooled. Lee is starting to ask about her father. Sky is not in a hurry for them to meet, because she believes Lee will just end up disappointed.

The band is on an international tour, and Sky knows they’re going to South Africa, but hopes not to run into the MC. She sees one of the MC members at one of the venues. She she’s 10 years older and uses a stage name, so she hopes he doesn’t recognize her. But he does, and he tells Sin. The next venue that the band is playing at is owned by the Iron Dogz!

Sin goes to the next performance, and they end up talking afterwards. He makes all kinds of demands. He wants to meet Lee, but he also wants to take her to meet the club members, etc. At first, Sky is like “I don’t want her to go to your disgusting club and hang around your rapey club brothers.” At first, Sin meets Lee at the hotel Sky is staying at. Then he asks them to come to the club house for a family braai (BBQ), when there won’t be any shady stuff or club girls around. Sky eventually agrees to that.

In the world's weirdest coincidence, Monika shows up at the club house with a boy she says is Crystal’s kid, and Sin is the father. Crystal overdosed, and Monika is there to dump the boy on Sin. The boys name is Carl/CJ, and he’s obviously been malnourished and neglected, because Crystal has been a drug user this whole time. Sin immediately acknowledges CJ as his son because their eyes look the same, and the boy looks a lot like Lee. Sin doesn’t want to give CJ back to Crystal and decides that he and Sky should raise their kids together. Sky pretty much immediately “adopts” CJ as her own kid. There isn’t really any tension regarding CJ.

Then there’s a side plot of the MC’s businesses being firebombed by the Henderson gang. The club President’s aunt is killed during this raid and there’s a bunch of stuff about that, IDing the body, going to the funeral, etc. Sin becomes withdrawn and doesn’t talk to Sky much except when he’s barking something at her because he’s angry. He's able to smooth that over with an apology and the story about the firebombing and the war with the Hendersons continues.

So they decide to let the kids go clothes shopping and of course Lee gets kidnapped out of the restroom. Because the Hendersons are sex traffickers. I swear to god these people are idiots. Now was not really a good time for shopping.

The relationship actually lacked drama and I wasn't very interested in the gang war plot. Just my personal preference though.

His Sky and Her Sin!!
Oh where to begin??? This series and books are just amazing and don't want it to end. I need more. The way Rene tells a story is mindblowing. It sucks you in and doesn't let go until the last chapter and word. Then you just sit back and think *what did I just read??*
In this one we had some closure, lots of tears of loss of dearly beloved ones, and some tears of joy. My heart is still thumping in my chest 9 hours after I read the last word. Now that ladies and gents is a brilliantly written story. I know she's not done with this series but it seems like it. And my heart is broken I want so much more. I need every brother to get his HEA!! And if you've read this series you know whom I'm talking about. I'm stoked to see what Rene brings us next. This avid reader will be one-clicking happy fangirl for sure.
Sky and Sin what a story. From devestation to a love bond so strong it was something to witness and glad I got to. And Lilou what a spirited young girl. My only thing is I would of loved to see some revenge on Monicka and his mum. They deserved to be visited by the Crow. just saying....that would of been the icing on the cake. And some redemption for CJ too. Oh well I loved it regardless of all the outcomes. The unraveling and justice was served. Loved, loved loved this book. If I could give it 100 STARS I would have.
Until next time....thanks for a brilliantly written book.

The ending for the Harrison syndicate story was very disappointing. Jane and her evil minions died a too easy death and the evil psychopathic c###, Winifried was captured but we never get to read about her punishment, so disappointing. I only continued to read the series after the horrible pairing of Chris, the club whore with Scar (I felt so sorry that Scar got stuck with her since from the moment she made an appearance I couldn't stand her.) to see what the climax of the Harrison syndicate troubles would be. The battle was good but wtf with all the women sitting in Sanctuary getting drunk while the men are risking their lives for them.
Then an excessively long funeral chapter for Aunt B which was boring.

My overall rating for the series of 8 books 3.25.
Many, many editing errors.
Not keen on instalust/instalove they have sex then 2 days later they are in love. Absolutely no relationship development.
Excessive use of "baby", 🙄. Everyone called everyone "baby". People don't constantly do that in conversations. It is possible to talk with someone and not use pet names at all. This author liked them to an excess. Not to mention, my viking, my sky, my this, my that. Very irritating.
This author also wrote the men as incompetent as the evil, psychopathic "bad guy" women were always 2 steps ahead of them. How many times do the club whores have to cause trouble before you ban them completely from the clubhouse?

10 years ago, Sin was a newly patched club brother, who had a steady, nice and compliant girlfriend that he wanted to keep away from the club. She has something she desperately wants to tell him and goes to find him at the club. What she finds shatters her heart and she disappears out of his life. Guilt and shame torment Sin every day.

Fast forward 10 years, Sky is a very different woman with a very different life to what she ever thought would be hers. Events bring her back to Iron Dogz territory where it is inevitable that the couple meet again. There are a couple of discoveries for both of them including the shocking truth of what actually happened that fateful night.

There is so much going on in this book, from betrayal, deceit, lies and heartbreak, to new beginnings for Sin and Sky. It’s an emotional roller coaster and fraught with danger, trauma and heartache.

What a journey Rene has taken us on with the Iron Dogz, I was hooked at book 1 and the series just got better and better. This is an outstanding series that I cannot recommend enough.

"And he’s just a man, standing in front of his girl, telling her he still loves her.”
What an absolutely fabulous line in this book!
Bitter Taste Of Sin is Sin and Sky's story. Like the others, it's an incredibly emotional, intense, heartbreaking, beautiful story. Sin's mistakes come back in a huge way and thankfully for him he was able to seek forgiveness. The storms surrounding his family is still raging and the fires of h*l^ rained down on the Dogz. With it came great loss and immense pain. But true to their nature, they didn't stay down long. As family, they united, fought and overcame. This has been one of the very best series I've ever read.

This book was recommended as an OW drama book and even though it was part of a series, I jumped in. I will freely admit I didn't know the history the club had with the "villain's" so some of that did go over my head. As to our couple.... both admitted later in the book that their relationship as it was in the beginning wouldn't have lasted and that they both needed to mature. TRUE! What ruined this for me was the "My", be it Viking, Sky whatever. It got old fast. Also the "Mine" when CJ was introduced. Nope, no way would that be a normal response and it didn't ring true when Sky did it. As for CJ and Lee, not typical, but hey it's fiction.

stop! Don’t Pay for this book! Surface characters lack depth

“ And then the first light came on and I about shit in my pants.”
That is an actual exert from the book. Honestly! Characters have no depth. Reads like a disjointed series of events. The author could have made characters deeper. She forgives him in three sentences because he was roofied. Ok that was bad but they had other issues. And why make her family suddenly become haters threatening to take her kids? That did not fit how they were portrayed and came out of no where. The plot initially had potential. But dragged on too much.

Sin and his Sky

Thoroughly enjoyed this lengthy story. It fully captivated me. I did not want it to end. Thankfully this is not the end of the series. There is much angst (relationship kind), fighting enemies, battles, reunited love, welcomed surprises, family introductions, family squabbles, loss of someone dear, karma to their enemies, reaffirmation MC friends. I laughed, I cried, I rejoiced. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Highly recommend this book and the series. I think I may do a series reread. Enjoy.

Sin and Sky

After a break of 10 yrs Sin and Sky reconnect but it's not as easy as they would like even with the mix up cleared up. Things happen that poor Sin didn't for see and have to come together to get to their forever. We get to meet Lee their daughter she is a real character and we get to meet CJ Sins surprise son..Of course with things coming to ahead with Maingarde everyone's on high alert. This is the end for the minute with Iron Dogs but I'm sure more to come from them.
Great story look forward to what's to come.😁

Sin's book has been a long time coming throughout this series. A lot has happened, death, pain, you name, all of them have been through it. This author gave me the best epic fight scenes ever. I was over the moon happy with everything. I don't know what else to say, except Bitter Taste Of Sin is by far the most powerful story ever written by this author. Thank you!

Loved it.

Oh Sin (head shake, tut, tut). Taken in by a slapper and his sister, he loses the love of his life Sky because of stupidity and believing the wrong person.

Sky runs away pregnant and makes a new life for herself and her daughter. She is back in South Africa with her band and Sin is determined to win her back.

Lots of action in this one, some sadness and lots of answers to the loose ends. I really hope River gets a happy ending eventually.

Once again Rene has not disappointed with this book. You laugh and cry along with the characters and are left feeling completely emotional. The way she drags you into the story and the way she has you falling in love with the characters is incredible.

This is a must read for all readers as is the rest of the series.
