The Collapse. Otherwise known as the fall of civilization as we know it. You’d think it would’ve taken a lot longer for people to turn on each other. But humans will do anything and everything to sustain their quality of life. Work unsavoury jobs. Take up robbery. Assault. Forced breeding, with babies traded as a commodity.
Mila has managed to stay out of reach of the black-market breeders – the Kingsnakes – by living on her own in the woods. Until a routine trip to the city for supplies changes her life of solitude in ways she never expected – and never wanted.
Ray never wanted to be a Kingsnake. But caring for his two young sisters means taking extreme measures to keep them from falling victim to the same fate as his captives. Bit by bit he chips away at his soul, protecting his own, keeping food on the table, and still offering a shred of dignity to anyone he can.
When Mila shows up at the Kingsnakes’ headquarters, everything changes. The risks Ray takes for his family are scary enough but will saving Mila from a fate worse than death compromise his own life, his family, and any hope of a real future together?
Torri Heat has control over everything in her life, except for the plot. Her characters demand centre stage, and she just goes along with whatever they want and hopes for the best. You never know whether you’ll end up with a dragon tail or on a submarine, but you will always get a taste of darkness with your romance. Her fierce women will inspire you to be sassy, and her dominant men will teach you how to be a good girl. When she isn’t creating alternate realities, you can find her working her other job as a nacho connoisseur.

I can survive the apocalypse, but I can’t survive a life without you.”
Oh my goodness, I couldn't put this book down. A second chance romance with handmaid's tale vibes. It was well written and captivating to read about two lovers coming together in the middle of a world that is no longer the same.
Civilisation collapsed and now babies are new commodity as the fertility rate plummeted. So, there's a group of people called the Kingsnakes that kidnapped women and impregnated them and then sold those babies off. Our girl is one of those girls and the hero works for the Kingsnakes. However he'd never bred any of those captive girls, he just lied and said that he did.
Now, with that said, I feel like the world building was extremely lacking, there were some frustrating plot holes, I hate everyone in this book and it was just not as intense or fucked up as I want, despite the grim topics in hand.
So yup, not that impressed and I'm sure you can find better dystopian romance than this.
As usual, Torri Heat has delivered a hot, suspenseful page-turner 😍 Imagine being thrust into an apocalyptic world only to find your long-lost boyfriend, and you both are still madly in love. Now throw in some disturbing survival tactics that humanity has adopted (think Handmade’s Tale), and you have a thrilling, high-stakes read that will keep you guessing. If you like high heat, adventure, and dystopian, this is definitely a book you don’t want to miss.
I had been waiting to read this book since @torriheat first hinted at it. So, when I finally got the ARC to read (yesterday) I knew I had to stop everything to read it.
I sat down to read and did not stop for anything. So in love with Mila and Ray. They fought with every fiber of their beings to survive and keep their love alive.
Readers of Torri will love this new extra darker side. As a fan of dystopian books, I was very satisfied with the tone and gritty vibe I got from reading this book. As the title implies...I am "screwed" over my deep love for Screwed by Torri.
First of all, thank you Torri Heat for sending me an Arc for Screwed. Coming June 9th, 2022.
The Collapse. Otherwise known as the fall of civilization as we know it. You’d think it would’ve taken a lot longer for people to turn on each other. But humans will do anything and everything to sustain their quality of life. Work unsavory jobs. Take up robbery. Assault. Forced breeding, with babies traded as a commodity.
I started reading it in the morning and finished it the same day. I couldn't stop reading. I had to know what the ending will be. Our two main characters are Mila and Ray. These two are my favorite and I liked Mila's sassiness and Ray's softness for her.
I don't read a lot of dystopian books but I enjoyed this one very much and wasn't disappointed at all. Torri Heat delivered us a hot, suspenseful page-turner that you couldn't put down. Torri also knows how to make a strong female character. They are some trigger warnings in this book but you have to read it for yourself to have an opinion.
As soon as I saw this advertised I inquired about, knowing it was coming from Torri, I knew it would be good. I finished in one day.
This is a dark dystopian story, then had my attention from page one. Taking us into The Collapse, Torri makes you feel like you're in the book with the characters.
Torri comes under the possession of the Kingsnakes, and one of them members, Ray, realizes he knows her from years ago. They fight to survive and be at peace.
A dark, gritty, suspenseful script that will leave you shook.

The premise of this book is really interesting. We start with a civilization in collapse after and now babies are a commodity, since not many women get pregnant. The ones who do, are separated from their babies so they get sold in the black market.
So now women are basically cattle.
With that said, I think that the worldbuilding could have had a little bit more of attention. I needed more explanation about many things that are now common in this new world and how people actually survive when money isn't a currency anymore. Also, the ending was really rushed, and since this is a standalone and I didn't see any remark about having a sequel, I felt like it should have been more. If Torri ever writes a sequel, I'm game! I really want it.
However, I have to say that I liked the main couple. They were engaged before Mila vanished, and now, ten years later, she was captured by the breeding circle that Ray has to work in to provide for his two baby sisters. Everyday he feels like a piece of his soul dies, but he keeps moving because he has to think about his family... which is noble. He doesn't want to be there and it shows. Mila is badass, she knows how to hold her own in a world that literally doesn't see her as being worthy of empathy.
They both together are awesome and I was pleased by how they solved their issues... And they had chemistry. A lot of chemistry. But the issues I pointed out kinda of made their story seemed a little lost to me.
Where the heck do I start with this one? Ray and Mila, Mila and Ray. Torri always knows how to deliver a strong FMC that takes no prisoners and sexy alpha males who adore their leading lady. Mila and Ray give us that as well but these charaters hold a softer more vulnerable side that I was not expecting. They live in a post-apocalyptic world that is similar to normal life but crime has taken on a life of its own. Eerie. The way Torri handles this world and the controversial acts so delicately without taking away from the grit of the story is perfect. You are immersed in every aspect and have no choice but to put yourself in the couple's shoes. I was on the edge of my seat many times, ready for more. Just...ugh, my heart. This story will be with me for a long time. Speechless. Bravo.
You know that feeling when you first get off a rollercoaster and you can barely walk straight, but all you can think about is going on the ride again? Welcome to my experience reading Screwed by Torri Heat. A quick trip to the grocery store turns into Mila’s entire life being turned upside down when she is kidnapped by the Kingsnakes, a black market breeding ring who impregnate women and sell the babies. When she gets to their compound, she ends up seeing Ray, her university boyfriend from a decade ago. Ray and Mila have undeniable chemistry, despite all the time they’ve spent apart since the Collapse. Even though the world as we know it is over, at least they are able to find each other in the darkness. They’ve both been through unimaginable circumstances and trauma that they were forced to adapt to.
I love Mila as a character for her quick wit and love of reading, which aided in her survival as much as it keep her sane. She’s confident and intelligent, able to fend for herself in any situation.
If you’re looking for a new book boyfriend, look no further than Ray! He has two little sisters that he lovingly provides for, doing whatever it takes to make sure the have the best life possible given the circumstances… even if that means selling his soul. He also loves and supports Mila while knowing she can take care of herself… we love a man who knows when to take a step back and let his girl handle herself.
Though I’m not usually a fan of dystopians, I quickly found myself enraptured by the world Torri has created! This book is intense and not for the faint of heart, but it’s an incredible read and I highly recommend it!
screwed.. that’s the perfect way to describe how i feel after reading this book. confusing time jumps, empty ending and a lack of tension. i’m not sure what’s worse. the whole ‘i’m not a bad guy, i’ve never touched the girls’ or the girls who actively enjoy being used and abused, or having literally no ending (which i didn’t even know was a possibility so congrats to the author ig). the couple (ray and mila) escape the building in which the girls are kept to be bred and… then what? the ending is left so open that it leaves so much unresolved. rays youngest sister is incredibly sick with the sickness that started the whole ‘not-apocalypse’ (i titled it that due to pretty much everything in this world staying the same, just a few women disappearing off the streets and money becoming useless) yet that storyline is not resolved. does she get better? does she die? does she grow to live with it and it mutates into superpowers that she uses to destroy all the runaway brothers? what about hannah? did she get back to her parents? who was the man who ‘bred’ her? will he try to find her? there’s only so much assuming i can do before i’m writing the book for you, and that is how it felt. i had to assume what eventually happened to olivia, i had to assume that ray and mila got to safety, i had to assume that the runaway brothers idk disbanded? and what is with the storyline that laura loved ray since before the ‘non-apocalypse’? that came from nowhere 😅
i feel unfulfilled by this book

Other reviews have likened this book to Handmaid’s tale, but I haven’t seen it. So my take on the book may be different.
World Building 🌎: First of all, I love the introduction into the apocalyptic world. I’m a big fan of world building, so I love the detail that went into the explanation of why the world around these characters operated the way it did.
Favorite Character 🙋♂️: Ray was my favorite character. He wanted to do good in the world, but knew he had to play by the Kingsnake’s horrifying rules…I’m not sure what I would have done in his shoes.
Values in the book 😇: I liked the emphasis on family (what was left of Ray and Mila’s families) despite the atrocious behaviors of the Kingsnakes. I liked Ray’s set of values, juxtaposed with, again, the harsh circumstances at that time. The Kingsnake’s value system was one of oppression and realism; I had no problems thinking that men could become that way towards women out of fear that the population became so small, so fast.
Who I wanted to learn more about 🦹♂️: The head of the Kingsnakes, Brother Brutus. I love me a good villain. I know that this is a romance book, so it’s not really supposed to be focused on the villain who isn’t directly involved with the characters unless he has to be. BUT A SEQUEL TOLD FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE AND A ROMANCE WITH HIM WOULD BE AMAZING. (Hint hint nudge nudge.)
A great read. Looking forward to A SEQUEL please pleaaase @torriheat 🤣
I originally gave this book 4 stars, but it's clear this book is sticking with me and its been on my mind all day. I am officially changing my rating to 5 STARS!
I won three of Torri's signed books in an IG Giveaway, and Screwed was one of them. Screwed is a dark dystopian, second chance romance where women and children are traded as commodities. The Kingsnakes are a mafia-style black market group that steals child rearing aged women from their homes and off the streets to breed them and sell their babies. Think The Handmaid's Tale. Mila and Ray have a past before The Collapse, and they are forced back together when Mila is kidnapped by the Kingsnakes while she is making a trip to the store in the city.
I loved Mila as a character. She is witty and loves reading, which really helped her out when she had to run for her survival at the beginning of The Collapse. Mila is also very confident and knows how to fend for herself.
I will say some of the content, while its a dystopian, felt way to real. This book is intense and is not for the faint of heart. If you enjoy dark romances and are okay with darker themes, be sure to check this book out!
A dystopian dark world, what more could I possibly want in a book 🖤
After the Collapse happened everything in the world changed. Women are no longer safe and babies are used as currency to get things you need to survive.
A group of males called the Kingsnakes kidnap women and breed them so they can survive in this new world.
Mila lives by herself away from the city and the darkness that surrounds it however the day she needs to head into the city her life changes for the worst.
This is a 2nd chance romance where the main couple reconnect in the worst of places. There they need to figure out how they can live the life they have both been given.
This is a spicy 🥵 MF romance in a duel POV. There is some dark themes throughout.
I loved the whole world that has been created and how life has been changed for the worst. The story flowed amazingly with a few twists.
Personally I didn’t find the story that dark (but that’s just me) however others would find parts of the story triggering.
Can I just say how much I adore (and relate) to Mila. Poor Ray… my heart just hurts for him. He’s just trying to do the best he can… with the shyt circumstances provided to him. I am a sucker for a good guy who is forced to do bad things. 👀
post apocalyptic second chance romance, what more could you ask for? suspenseful, steamy, and had me stressed for the main characters throughout the entire book. love and hope is all you need.
I would like to thank @torriheat for allowing me this opportunity. I received this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I haven't read very many dystopia dark romances, I honestly think this is my second one. However, this book had me hooked instantly. The writing style in this book was very well done. This novel wasn't overly descriptive or info dumpy, however I found some of the repitition to be too much.
This novel would be a good dark romance starter book. The smut that's in here is beautifully done, while it's not overly dark smut between our two MC the premise itself is dark. There are some TRIGGER WARNINGS for voyeurism, SA(mentioned but not detailed), non-con, dub-con. The dark doesn't overpower the main storyline in my opinion.
Mila has avoided the Kingsnakes for a very long time. The Kingsnakes steal girls to breed them. After the Collapse anything is currency, especially baby's. So they use baby's to purchase things.
Ray joined the Kingsnakes to keep his younger sisters safe. He hates the way they run things, but sometimes unsavory decisions need to be made to keep loved ones safe. Ray does things his own way in the hopes to not be found our.
When the new girl shows up, Ray's whole world is turned around. New factors makes him consider new choices.
The collapse of the world as they knew it Mila is forced to make a lot of hard choices for her survival. She makes it work on her own for years and not lost her fire. Her character is sassy and brave and hopeful. Things don’t always go according to plan though and she ends up the last place she wants to be. In comes Ray, her long lost love, a desperate man in what feels like an impossible situation, trying to protect his baby sisters in a world that only sees them as items to be bought and sold. Together Mila & Ray burn hot, their relationship was set up so well in this book it has so much potential in the next.
I’m not normally a fan of dystopian romances but I couldn’t out this book down!! The characters were developed, the writing is well done. I could really picture the world the author built.
There are some trigger warnings in this book so be sure to check those out beforehand.
I liked this book but didn’t like it. I loved the smut and the tension between Mila and Ray, plus the fact it’s a second change romance was wonderful. But I felt like I couldn’t connect with the characters and moments felt a bit rushed. I think the fact that it’s a dystopian about the world going to shit just made me feel not as comfortable with the story… I guess end of world stories aren’t good for me to read at the moment, especially when they feel really realistic.
Absolutely loved it! This dystopian tale mixes danger, action and spice like nothing else! Torri is a master at bringing her readers into the worlds she creates. Mila and Ray make you root from them every step of the way, even when you think survival is impossible.
This book was exactly what was promised. Purchased off of a TikTok review and it matched the description pretty closely. A apocalyptic theme with a second chance romance was an interesting combo so I came into the book with almost no expectations. This author is very creative in their theme writing to the point that I’m not entirely sure how they come up with it! For that reason alone I find the writing to be unique and intriguing. Not a bad book just not for everyone! The plot was not the strongest point but I have to say the smut never fails! Kind of a dark romance read that does not necessarily feel too dark besides one or two instances that definitely match the trigger warnings so heed the warning but know the book itself has more of a dark vibe instead of the entirety of the book being a trigger.
Overall enjoyed the book and would recommend to friends that I KNOW would enjoy a book like this. Otherwise they might think im a bit weird but oh well.
First off I loved this book. I was able to get a ARC copy of it. It was fast paced and held my attention all throughout the books. I was unable to put it down. When a tragedy happens to our world bringing a collapse to what we’ve known and grown accustomed to that the human kind will turn on each other. Resources diminish due to time, money becomes a thing of the past. With the tragedy that hit in this story some women were unable to bare children, while those who can carry are used as breeders to have those children sold off to have a place to live, new supples, and much more. You follow Ray’s life with his sisters and how they are managing through the world they’ve become accustomed to. The things they fear and what they can be hopeful for. Intertwined within the story you will also hear Mila’s story. How she’s been able to survive outside the town for years until one day she’s heading to the store to get some essentials. She’s then drugged and kidnapped and brought to the kingsnakes house on the same day as the choosing. It is that night she encounters her ex fiancé. This is definitely a must read!! Tori heat did an amazing job and there was definitely a twist in the end.
The collapse happened and babies are a commodity to be traded. The Kingslayers, a local breeding gang kidnaps women, breeds them, and sells babies to the highest bidder for supplies.
Mila has it pretty good in the woods, until winter sets in. She'll have to go to the city and get supplies, but that's a risk. A risk she has to take. There she is kidnapped by the Kingslayers. That night she is given to Brother Prospero. A man who is eerily familiar to her. A blast from her college past - Ray, her ex-lover. What is he doing with the Kingslayers? Why is he doing this? Making babies to sell? That's not like Ray at all!! Mila needs to figure this all out and find a way out, without getting pregnant.
Mila, really? REALLY?!? Here at the motel. Kidnapped by the Kingslayers and now he was getting to pick her for the month, to try and get her pregnant. This was NOT going to end well when she found out it was him. Once the shock wore off they formulated a plan, only there were roadblocks, his sisters for one, the brothers being suspicious of him another, and the other women in the motel. But they had to get out. Ray's love for MIla never waned, he had to keep her safe. He promised her.
Ok, I grabbed this book from KU. All because of good PR on TikTok. What fell short for me, is that yeah it's fast-paced, which I like, but it's lacking in story. There were so many things that could have been flushed out and added to the story. Like the already pregnant women. The society outside was weird, if you were rich everything was status quo. But if you weren't you were fair game for kidnapping and breeding. I didn't understand the collapse. And what was the sickness that swept through? A cold? Did they get a vax that rendered them infertile? No clue.
This story has an interesting premise (post-apocalyptic world, declining birth rates and fertility have made babies a commodity and a breeding ring has sprung up to impregnate women and sell the kids off for profit). It’s grim, but the kind of grim you can absolutely see happening if this situation were to happen in real life.
The FMC is captured by them and finds out her assigned breeder for the month is the fiance she lost touch with when the apocalypse happens. He fakes participating in the forced breeding and only joined the organization to begin with because his baby sister that he is a guardian of got sick, and it was the only way to make enough money to care for her. He can’t do much about the other men and what they do or he’ll be killed and his sisters abandoned, but he tries to help the girls where he can. It’s not perfect and he knows it doesn’t absolve him from his involvement, but it does feel like a nuanced exploration of clinging to morals where you can in a situation that is desperate at literally the end of the world and no choice is righteous.
The second chance aspects of the story are pretty great. I knew this was under 300 pages going in so I set my expectations accordingly - I wasn’t expecting expansive worldbuilding or a deep character dive. But I think the writing was fluid and easy to immerse myself in and the story utilized the pages it had well to build a simple post-apocalyptic world and flesh out the main characters while creating a romantic center with a decent amount of spice that was surprisingly hot given the circumstances. The side characters were a little flat, there are some things that don’t make sense, and despite the pacing overall being very good, the ending was a tad rushed and felt somewhat unresolved (and extra chapter or 2 to wind down the story from the main conflicts peak would have help smooth it out immensely). But overall, a solid quick read that was pretty great about using the page length strategically.
The Collapse. Where the world goes to sh*t, people turn against each other, girls gets snatched off of the streets and become baby-fabrics just for the babies to be sold for food and other supplies… Mila is such a fierce female character. I kinda hate it that she ran off in stead of going to Ray. I understand the horror she saw, but my heart can’t bear the thought of leaving Ray behind. Ray is such a lovely character. His softness towards Mila made me love him so much! He sold his soul to the Kingsnakes in order to provide for his little sisters. Mila and Ray are so determined to plan an escape and to do whatever it takes to keep the other safe. I love them so much, they’ve made it on my fav-bookcouples-list! I haven’t read a lot of dystopian books, but this one is definitely a winner! Torri’s writing made everything feel so real. The world she built is not for the weak and the main characters are so thought out, same goes for the storyline and plot. It is intense and absolutely not for the fragile souls among us. There may be some TW for some, but it is really such a great book!
I’ve loved Torri and her writing from the minute I met her. I’ve read and enjoyed all of her paranormal romance stories, so when she told me she was writing dystopian I couldn’t believe it. She did not disappoint with Screwed!
If you’re into total Handmaid’s Tale vibes without the religion and hierarchy, then this is for you. Heat builds the tension of The Collapse, the demise of the world as we know it, with such precision and reality that you can actually picture a not too distant future that may look like this.
I found myself unable to put this down (though I was forced by two tiny humans). When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about the story, Ray and Mila, and imagining whether Torri would save our hearts with a happy ending or crush our dreams even further. You’ll have to read it to find out which way she went ;)
Civilization is no longer the way it used to be. The fall means humans turned on each other in order to maintain their way of life. Forced breeding in order to trade the babies as commodities, the Kingsnakes are the biggest players in the field. Ray became a part of this group in order to help his sisters. Mila was avoiding being taken by this group until an encounter on a run for supplies turns her world upside down. Now the pair find themselves together, and it may not be the end of the world.
As usual Torri Heat delivers another steamy, page turner that just grabs your attention and holds you hostage until it's over. The suspense of the story was great, and the steam was even better. The plot delivers on every front, and the characters are not only entertaining, but realistic. All in all this was one hell of a book that I could not get enough of.
Torri Heat’s most recent book is a dark romantic dystopian novel which was brilliantly written. The world is falling apart with shelves empty, jobs scarce, and markets taking losses. The only market making a profit is the black market and babies are the hottest commodity in the world. Women are having a hard time conceiving a child and those that can are selling them for food. Ray and Mila, the main characters, used to be engaged until “The Collapse”. Now after years of separation they’ve been forced back together. Will this second chance romance be able to stand the trials that come for this couple in this new way of life? You need to read the story to find out. This book is full of exciting adventure, suspense and romance which was so riveting I couldn’t put it down until the very last page. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!
Screwed gave me a second chance romance with a Handmaid's Tale dark dystopian vibe. I loved Mila, who is feisty, intelligent and strong and Ray, who is fiercely protective over the ones he loves. I was quickly pulled into this world after the Collapse from the very beginning of the book. Check your trigger warnings as the world after the fall of civilization is a world of forced breeding, kidnappings, assaults and survival of the fittest. I enjoyed the chemistry between Mila and Ray, so I quickly devoured the book. I will be looking into more Torri Heat books in future. Screwed was easily a 4 / 5 Star read for me.
