A daring housekeeper meets her match in a sinfully seductive marquess in this scorching-hot addition to the Unexpected Lords series from USA Today bestselling author Scarlett Scott.
The Marquess of Greymoor has possessed a great many titles in his life, but there is none he despises more than the one he unexpectedly inherited as a lad. Call him what you like, Grey has never fit the societal mold. Instead, he is unabashedly determined to live by his own set of rules. Which is why, when a mysterious and lovely housekeeper attracts his attention, he makes her the offer of a lifetime: one month of sin with him in return for a tidy fortune.
Secretly scandalous. Mysterious wallflower. Anything but a lady.
A dark past has ensured that Francesca Marsden is no stranger to secrets, lies, and living life from one moment to the next. While masquerading as the widowed Mrs. Beasley helped her to become housekeeper at a derelict country estate, she never expected to be noticed. She most definitely did not anticipate a dashing marquess making her a proposition she can’t afford to refuse.
When Grey has his enigmatic housekeeper exactly where he wants her, the passion burning between them is beyond his wildest imaginings. Despite his best intentions, his icy heart begins to melt for the spitfire he has taken under his wing. But Francesca promised one month only, and that is all she can give, even as her feelings for Grey grow. With her secrets bringing danger and ruin alarmingly near, she has to make a painful choice. But now that he has found her, Grey isn’t about to let her go. He’ll fight to protect the woman he loves.
USA TODAY bestselling author Scarlett Scott writes steamy Victorian and Regency historical romances with strong, intelligent heroines and sexy alpha heroes. She lives in Pennsylvania and Maryland with her Canadian husband, their adorable identical twins, a demanding diva dog, and one zany cat.
I love Scarlett Scott and her books are very steamy, but every once in a while I think they may be a tad too much in the bedroom scenes. I don't know what to call it but its a little much for me. The story itself was very good and I absolutely loved the ending with her, her mother in law and the baby bonding together, but the intimate scenes for me were much too intimate. I did like the hero for most of the book and his friends are wonderful too. I loved their easy going friendship, and the love they have for their wives, heroines from past books in the series. The dog rescue was precious too. So there are so many excellent points in the story that are far superior to the slightly dirty love scenes but that did distract from the story. I still gave four stars. Mostly because of the dog of course but it was good. I just like more fade to black scenes. Personal opinion only. Excellent read, safe and free in KU. What else could you want!
Oh, my heart. Grey has captured it as sure as he has Francesca’s. I don’t want it back. Confused, desperate, and lustful, Grey makes an offer to his friend’s housekeeper even he doesn’t understand. Thirty days, one large sum of money, no ties. Except the woman who has captivated him continues to do so until he can no longer imagine life beyond the thirty days. These two burn up the pages. His dirty talking, lustful needs are spectacular. She is the exact woman to challenge him, care for him, and match him desire for desire. Loved the naughtiness, the sweet love, and the story. Another page turner by this talented author.
I had a pretty good idea these two would be the next leads in the series. Unfortunately, I wasn’t all that excited to read their story, but I don’t like skipping books in a series, especially if I am interested in reading the one after it.
This series covers the love life of a lord who was a second or third son, one who was never meant to inherit but has done so through tragedy. The Marquess - Grey - inherited the title at a young age after losing his father and brother in a railway accident. His first marriage was a disaster. She lied and cheated on him. Then she died in childbirth and so did her baby. Incidentally, it was not his child she was carrying. Needless to say, he’s not a very trusting person.
Francesca is a housekeeper for the Angelseys, the leads in the last book. She is young and beautiful and seems very out of place as a housekeeper. Grey likes her and propositions her. She can receive a vast sum of money that will last her the rest of her days in exchange for a month with him. After lots of no-thank-yous, she agrees. Sadly, she is lying about who she is.
There is the mystery of Francesca for Grey to solve. The reader knows because the book moves from her point of view to his. Not much of a mystery for us. The author does a slow reveal of her past for us, which seems unnecessary. There is another mystery in her background but that is solved off the page. It would have been a great mystery for the novel but the author doesn’t concern herself with that. She focuses solely on their relationship. However, writing a book focusing on solving the mystery would have allowed for their relationship to get deeper and it would have been a more interesting plot line. The relationship building is mostly explained and shown through small moments. Some are cute but I just thought there was a wasted opportunity with the mystery not taking center stage. The author has already done this in the second book and it was a tad disappointing. I don’t love the liar trope in romantic novels. It just seems so dumb. Just tell the truth and things are always better. Even still, the book was fine to read. A little escape from reality.
This was slow …slow….slow…..I skimmed a lot. I kept going because Suttons Spinster was so good. I hoped this would make the turn. The characters were boring, the angst wasn’t angsty. The Mcs never lived up to their potential. Reminds me of the saying…Could’ve done better.
I think this book would’ve been better titled: the Manwhore Marquess
It has lots of steam, lots of emotion and lots and lots of details of the manwhore hero’s past. He loved a woman before, she betrayed him, broke his heart and he’s very jaded and distrustful now. And his response to his wife’s infidelity was to become a giant oozing scumbag manwhore who will fuck anything that walks. However once he sees heroine, he’s celibate. And he eventually, FINALLY, realizes he loves the heroine more than his dead cheating wife. But it got really annoying with the repeated mentions of his gross past. Seriously this book would’ve gotten 5 Stars had it shredded even half the mentions of his past, because without all that bullshit it was actually really good.
Not safe. Hero has been married before, loved his dead wife and there were repeated mentions of his sordid ugly past to the point I wanted to give up at several points. Heroine is a virgin, belongs only to her hero. No others, no cheating and no abuse. HEA with epilogue almost 2 years out with a baby
Since 2015, I have read hundreds and hundreds of different authors but I only have 31 authors that I consider my favorites and have read all their books (in my genre). As a matter of fact, of all these 31 favorite authors, their combined book total of books I’ve read is 1000 and my overall read total is just over 2500. So for them having that many books contributing to my overall total says a lot about their writing. Scarlett Scott is one of those and as a matter of fact she is one of my Top 5 favorites.
I have loved Scarlett Scott’s books since the first one I read, Rebel Love in 2016. This is now my 56th books of hers I've read. I love the way she writes, I love her stories. I love her characters and all their different personalities. She is just so good. PLUS she writes some of the best sex scenes of all the authors I read. I mean there are a handful that do write really great ones but she is definitely at the top.
I loved Grey and Francesca. I loved how most of the story took place in their own little world. Sex was off the chain. Just loved it.
This has been a great series and can’t wait for the next one. I would definitely recommend this book.
I loved Scarlett Scott's books in the past but the newer ones seem to be falling flat for me. I enjoy good sex scenes in HR, but I also enjoy some plot in between. This mostly felt formulaic and predictable, with most of the action happening off scene and just referencing what happened via dialogue after it's done (particularly the ending). It also felt like both characters backstory was really given in breadcrumbs throughout the book, but it didn't feel purposeful or strategic, just kind of frustrating as the reader. It made it difficult to relate to the characters because I knew almost nothing about them for most of the book. I found myself skimming through parts and almost didn't finish it when it got to the completely avoidable but awkward scene you felt coming - the big reveal of her secret past that she (of course) should have told him sooner. The end was wrapped up neatly and quickly. It was a fairly quick read and the sex scenes were pretty good, but the lack of plot and character development really made this one a miss for me.
Grey(moor) & Francesca. Uhhhhhh wow! She is working as the head housekeeper for Anglesey (Zachary from book 2). While attending Zachary & Izzy's wedding he takes notice of Francesca and is instantly drawn to him. He wants to give her 10K pounds for a month of her time. She had been hiding out as a widowed housekeeper in the country on the run from her past. Her mother was a very well known opera singer known as being the mistress to some wealthy men. She had passed away and her former lover took Francesca in (he thought of her as a daughter having had her around for so long and being in love with her mother). One night, she walks into the library and sees him sitting in a chair and realizes there is blood everywhere and he had be murdered. She ran off not wanting to be blamed for his murder. She accepts Grey's offer (she has a major attraction to him proven in her room when he goes down on her). He takes her to his hunting lodge (Zachary & Izzy are honeymooning at his estate) where he slowly seduces her. He wants to paint her portrait (tension building) and they start kissing. In true rakehell fashion, his dirty talk and having her strip for him (HOTTTTTTT). Thinking her a widow, he didn't even notice deflowering her until they were taking a shower together and he saw blood. She admitted she had never been married. He got pissed because his deceased wife was a liar and married him while carrying another man's baby (she died while giving birth to another man's baby) and was consistently cheating on him with anyone with a peen. He vowed to never remarry. After promising no more lies they go back to having passionate interactions. He realizes he loves her and wants to marry her. When meeting his mother and her friend, the friend recognizes her and outs her. Grey is PISSED and kicks her out even though he loves her but feels betrayed. He gave her the $$$ but she left it behind. His friend (from book 1) is an investigator and they look into the murder. She is exonerated (and left with 20K pounds from her mother's lover/father figure). She realizes she's pregnant and he chases after her and asks her to marry him. He loves her and she loves him. This is what I want in my romance novels, just some trashy steamy hotness.

Ruthless businessman. Coldhearted cynic. Jaded rake. The Marquis of Greymoor has possessed a great many titles in his life, but there is none he despises more than the one he unexpectedly inherited as a lad. A dark past has ensured that Francesca Marsden is no stranger to secrets, lies, and living life from one moment to the next. While masquerading as the widowed Mrs. Beasley helped her to become housekeeper at a derelict country estate, she never expected to be noticed. She most definitely did not anticipate a dashing marquis making her a proposition she can’t afford to refuse. The third book in this amazing series, yes it could easily be read on its own but seriously when a series is this good I’d recommend starting at the beginning. I loved both Grey & Francesca, the chemistry between them was off the scale & I was drawn in from the first page. It's hot, it's steamy, it's an absolutely lovely romance – I loved it add a bit of intrigue about Francesca & I was one very happy reader My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
A beautiful woman in hiding. A man who has given his heart before and is not sure if he is willing to give it again. They meet in a country house with her as head housekeeper and him just needing time away. But when chemistry begins to burn - boy does it burn!
I love a hero who is both stoic and vulnerable. Grey was all that and more.
The wonderfully paced story, with a month to get lost in each other - before her past comes back to possibly ruin everything they are building.
I have loved all of the other books in this series so it's very disappointing that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the others. I think the reason why I wasn't enjoying this one as much is because I just didn't feel like there was much of a connection there between the couple in this book compared to the other couples in past books where I could tell that they definitely have a connection. Even though I didn't enjoy this one as much, I am still looking forward to the next book in the series that is coming out next year!
Starring Francesca Marsden (Aka Mrs. Beasley) and “Grey”, The Marquess of Greymoor
Tropes: Widower, In Disguise, Peer Hero/Working Class Heroine.
Well, well, well… I’m going to need one of Grey’s cigarettes after reading this hot gem of a book!! Goodness, this is Scarlett Scott’s hottest story yet… so I’ll be fanning myself as I type this review!!
Alpha hero… check! Artist hero… yum points, check! Dirty Talker… oh my, definite check! Grey is all these and so much more. He’s a little bit broken because his wife did a number on him when she was alive. Caused him to have serious trust issues. But I’m so glad that he finally let Francesca in… he totally needed her to keep him grounded. Altho I wanted to smack him at the end, I was happy that he came to his senses to do a bit of groveling.
Francesca made me a little nervous. I kept wanting to know her secret… then I wanted to hug her when it was revealed. She was so resilient when faced with a problem. I was just in awe of her. I love how prim and proper she was… until Grey encouraged her to let her hair down (ahem) a little. She’s a person who needs to be in constant motion and doing things for others… with Grey she can just be. And she totally deserves every happiness he can give her.
Francesca and Grey scorched the pages. I love when a book is mainly interaction between the main couple. These two will make you smile as they give you the feely-feels. I enjoyed their story so much.
Scarlett Scott is such a brilliant writer. She writes steamy books, yes… but the growth of her characters and their romance are always strongly woven into the story and results in a very satisfying ugly cry af ending. I love her books and she’s a total keeper shelf author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily review it and the comments are 100% my own.
My Star Rating: 5 stars Ugly cried AF. Major book hangover. Characters and storyline were freaken amazeballs. Made me wanna hug the author for writing a book that gave me all the feels!! Will definitely be reading this story over and over and over again!!
This is the third book of this series and it’s definitely my favorite! The Marquess of Greymoor unabashedly determined to live by his own set of rules. Which is why, when a mysterious and lovely housekeeper attracts his attention, he makes her the offer of a lifetime: one month of sin with him in return for a tidy fortune. But now that he has found her, Grey isn’t about to let her go. He’ll fight to protect the woman he loves. I’m absolutely fascinate by this book. It has everything I crave in a romance: amazing characters, a strong storyline, a lot of passion and a bit of aghast. I was sure Grey was going to by my favorite character, but it was definitely Francesca. She is strong and resilient and I adored that she allows herself to experience passion and adventure. Grey is considerate and sweet, but also hot and demanding in a marvelous way. It’s impossible not to read this book in a day. It’s absolutely engaging and addictive. I loved it. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Scandalously sinful! Lord Greymoore is utterly delicious. Francesca is delightful in her proper bearing. Francesca takes on the mantle of Mrs.Beasley, securing the position of housekeeper at Barlowe Park. There she can live in hiding with some security. Having been accused of killing her mother’s protector, she is left with few options. That security is put in jeopardy when she attracts the attention of Lord Greymoore. The attraction cannot be denied, and she soon finds herself whisked away. But Grey cannot abide lies, which leaves her in a untenable bind. Attraction quickly leads to love, and leaves both of them with many sins to atone. Scarlett Scott writes a truly delectable tale. Undeniable heat, tender love and mind-numbing passion erupts on every page. The hidden tenderness of Grey with the adorable pup, Zenobia was a treat. This story evokes all the emotions, and leaves you with a full heart.
This book is one of the reasons why Scarlett Scott is one of my favorite authors. It was amazing to read and the chemistry between Grey and Francesca is outstanding. Grey first sees Francesca when she is the housekeeper at his friend’s estate. Immediately Grey wants Francesca and he makes her an offer, an offer which Francesca wants to accept. Francesca has secrets which she can not reveal, which causes her to lie to everyone around her. Grey has had a bad experience in his first marriage with his wife and her lying to him. This is the 3rd book in the series Unexpected Lords, you do not have to read the other books to enjoy this book, but if you did, it was nice to hear about the other two couples. Again, a very enjoyable read. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest opinion.
Another fun entry in this series. I had a great time and finished it in one sitting but i will say that the third act conflict was not a surprise, i knew it was going to happen but i did liked the resolution. I loved Grey & Francesca and the deal they agreed upon. 😉 I loved how Grey couldn't help but fall in love and he wanted to marry Francesca right away but then Francesca's secret came out in the open and let me just say i was surprised by it. I had no clue she was accused of such a thing but i also had no guesses for what her secret was. I'm very interested in reading the next book since he had an inkling of what's to come.
I absolutely love The Millionaire Marquess by Scarlett Scott. Scarlett Scott is an automatic buy for me as I totally love her writing style, her characters, and plot lines. Francesca and Grey are beautiful characters and their development as individuals and as a couple is beautiful to read and imagine in your mind. I totally can see the setting and characters and I really enjoy how she is able to portray feelings in such a way that you can feel them as you read. The addition of the pug totally makes it!
I am loving this whole Unexpected Lords Series. Each one is a stand alone but the characters do appear in each other’s books, which is an added bonus to me. Grey and Francesca’s story is a delicious delight! Francesca is working as a housekeeper in hiding, under an assumed name when she meets Grey, the Marquess of Greymour, a friend of her employer. He is enraptured by her, as she is just as enthralled with him. It is a known fact that Lords do not dally with their friend’s maids. But nothing could have kept these two apart. The dialogue and clever banter between these two was delightful and the passion, sizzling! Their tryst, however, was to be temporary, as he was a jaded lover, and she was clothed in secrets. No one had factored Love into the equation, not to mention a charming little Pug named Zenobia!
I overall really liked this one! I didn’t particularly like all the deceit and the misunderstanding but how it was resolved worked for the story. I wasn’t really here for the plot as much but was HERE for the smut. Steamy all the way.
dnf @ 23% - i started this a long time ago and never picked it up again. i was having fun though, i think. i will definitely pick it up when i inevitably want to read a kinky historical romance again
Excellent read! If you haven't explored the series, be sure that you do. The Millionaire Marquess is a unique blend of steam and dialogue (both sexy and funny). Appearances from several characters met previously in the series was also appreciated. I devoured it in 48 hours.
I went into this book blindly and I regret not reading the summary. My biggest complaint is that I don't like books where you have a woman who is working and earning a respectable living and minding her own business, then you have a aristocrat come along and proposition her to become a prostitute/mistress. There was way too much repetitive inner dialogue and the conversations between them was very staid. The ending was extremely rushed.
I typically enjoy Scarlett Scott’s books, but this didn’t work for me. There was no real development of the relationship between the two, so I found myself struggling to read past the halfway mark. DNF.
WOW, Hot, Hot, Hot! ....... I just finished this wildly, fantastic, steamy read but before I can review it, I need to use Grey's shower bath (cold water), have one of his cigarettes & a glass of his whisky. This book had all the things that make me love this author's books and more I did not know I needed until now.
Aloysius, the Marquess of Greymoor, he preferred to be called Grey is handsome, wealthy man with a wicked sense of humor & tends to have some sexy dirty talk lines & he brings with him a hatred of liars and tends not to trust, after his late wife played him for a fool. He also knows the fascination, lust and intrigue with his friend's housekeeper should not be done but can he resist?
Francesca Marsden/AKA Mrs. Beasley is disguised as a housekeeper in Grey's friends' estate. She has many secrets that she can't let anyone know - who her Mother was and where she came from in her past but more recently, why was she running and disguising herself? The one thing she is sure of is she cannot give in to the attraction she feels for Grey until he makes her an offer she cannot afford to refuse.
Grey and Francesca go to his estate to fulfil his lust and for her to get the money for spending thirty days with him. They would both get their desire and lust fulfilled and then go on their merry ways - right? Ha, this begins a scorching thirty-day, chemistry filled, friendship building, exciting time but there are many incidents; lies, trust issues, doubts from her because of her past, doubts from him about marriage, truths discovered, old wounds healed and so much more before their explosive relationship would find a HEA. What a fantastic book with wonderful main and secondary characters; including the rescued Pug, Zenobia! I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.
3.75 stars rounded up to 4. This is a fun, sexy book to relax with after a long work week. Francesca and Grey have potent chemistry, and meanwhile there is just enough character development, humor, and historical research to pique the reader's interest (there was much more to being a housekeeper during the Regency period than I realized!). Plus, characters re-emerge from previous books in the series and are integrated effectively into the storyline.
My nitpicks: I would have preferred if the plot had started with the MC's first meeting and there had been more of a slow-burn romance, considering the differences in class and status. Although their initial attraction is described later in the book, and Grey acknowledges the power imbalance during their relationship, once he finds out Francesca's a virgin and then eventually discovers her other deceptions I couldn't help but root for her more than him. I didn't like how she invalidated her feelings of hurt, and POSSIBLE SPOILER................................I was also disappointed that Grey wasn't completely honest with her toward the end about his motives for having her investigated (he wasn't fully confident in her innocence until he heard the detective's findings).
I also would have preferred more show than tell when it came to Grey's relationship with his mother, and I wish her relationship with Francesca wasn't relegated to the epilogue. His mother is an interesting character with a tragic past, and I would have loved it if she had started to form a bond with Francesca before the truth came out; it would have heightened the drama and emotion.
Finally, this is just one of my pet peeves, but I prefer the action to unfold on the page rather than to be explained in character summary. What really happened to Lord Tottingham, and the proof of Francesca's innocence, is merely summarized by Grey at the end.
Overall, though, if you're looking for a good dose of Regency steam with MC's (and a pug Not-Named James) who are easy to like, it's hard to go wrong with Scarlett Scott.
Secrets we keep when we practice to deceive Whew what a lot to unpack this feeds off the previous stories and perfection takes time for a book this good! Aloysius Aka Grey is in heat and lust so powerful for Mrs. Beasley his friends housekeeper. Mrs. Beasley is made of strong stuff and does not immediately give into Grey! Although she wants to as a daughter of a Mistress to men of great fortune she does not want that path. But she is over dead mice, hard of hearing staff and never ending work in a very neglected household! Grey does not make her do anything she doesn’t want seduction is the order of the day. When their affair grows so steamy it fogs windows. Francesca is unaware of a few facts like Grey would be aware there was no Mr Beasley!?? She promises not to lie and does not disclose some very painful and pertinent truths that could see her hanged. But for the first time she feels safe after 2 years and she should have been honest because her fear of loosing Grey was 1000 times magnified after he finds out! Cast out snd refusing to take his money she is destitute again and there are bigger concerns than her pride! Grey is devastated but desperately wants the truth his heart won’t let him believe he had been this big of a full. So Wycombe from the first story uses his detective skills to find out the truth! When Grey starts to look for her she is with Lord and Lady Anglesey his friends and her former employers! Francesca arrives there sick and broken hearted. When explanations are given by both well I would have had Grey grovel a lot more!! Because when secrets are revealed Francesca has unexpected resources so does she really need Grey? No but can they have a clean slate with all the misunderstandings between them? I love the ending and their finally HEA! Can’t wait for their boxer friend story next! Bravo and well done!
